Landscape Associates of DePere, WI performed poor workmanship, overlooked details in the design plan, handled issues in a rude and impatient manner, and refused to provide an itemized bill for services rendered. A project that should have taken less than a week to complete took over two months.
On the first day of planting two young men were sent to our home with the wrong size trees and not enough top soil to meet the requirements of the plan. We had to ask the owner three times before he provided more topsoil. The planting crew did a very poor job of planting the trees, left before watering freshly planted shrubs, and littered the planting beds with plastic bag parts.
The centerpiece of the project, three 6-7’ serviceberry trees designed to be a “grove” near our front door, ended up being one 6’ tree, one 10’ tree and one empty hole in the ground. Initially three 10’ trees were brought to our house in June. All three trees had lichen on them and did not appear to be particularly healthy. When we asked for trees the size designated in the plan, [redacted], the owner of Landscape Associates told us he could not get the 6-7’ size from his supplier and provided no options to rectify the problem. He demonstrated a take it or leave it attitude to us. We reluctantly accepted the trees.
In less than a week’s time about half of the leaves on two of the three trees turned brown. After viewing the trees, Mr. [redacted] only agreed to repIace one of the sick trees. In an effort to keep the three trees the same size, we requested another 10’ tree. Instead, without communication from the company, a 6’ tree was brought as a replacement (the size he had previously said was unavailable). We then had two 10’ trees and one 6’ tree. Weeks later when [redacted] finally agreed to replace the other sick tree, an 8’ tree was delivered. Again we were not consulted about the change in size so we did not accept the last tree. If we had, we would have had an odd assortment of three different size trees in our “grove”.
Finally, since a number of changes were made to our landscape plan during the planting process, we asked for an updated itemized bill. Despite asking for it on four different occasions we have never received it. We believe there may be errors in the bill and we are very frustrated with the lack of transparency in his billing process. [redacted] seemed far more interested in getting paid, than doing a good job.
