Excellent very patient advisor

My husband was having issues logging into his Hotmail account. He called this service under the impression that they were Hotmail representatives (Never being corrected). After speaking to a couple different people and getting our computer hacked into he was told that the only way they could resolve his issue was by charging him $100. After he refused and hung up I searched the company and found out that they have been doing the same to others. I went to scan our computer to see if they had implanted any viruses and our entire antivirus was disabled. This company needs to get shut down!

Review: I was not receiving emails from my hotmail account, so when I googled hotmail the first place to show up was MCHelper which I started to chat with. They said they would need to have someone call me. I received call from a man of Asian descent who said he needed to get remote access inside my computer to resolve my issue and that I was being hacked. I allowed it and he did retrieve email acccounts then said I needed to pay $199 for services for microsoft issues. I very reluctantly agreed, then when they were done I asked about changing my password back and they told me I had to wait 30 days!! They still have access to my computer and I am beside myself with fear and angry at myself for being so stupid as to allow them to take advantage of me!!Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded $199 and also to have my security and safe password.

Very unhappy with MCHELPER. I'm amazed to see they are actually in good standing with the Revdex.com and there are so few complaints.

They have apparently paid to get their Ad posted first in Google when searching for help with Hotmail. When my parents called them thinking they were part of Microsoft at 888-666-9320. They had a person from India who said they represent Microsoft. They got my mom to allow them remote access to her computer and the passwords to her accounts.

After they had access to her computer and the passwords that she gave them (again confused thinking they were part of Microsoft), they informed her that her account had been hacked and they would need a credit card to charge $90 to fix the problem. Thank God, She did not give them her credit card number.

Taking advantage of the elderly is very low. It took hours for me to help my parents change passwords and make sure their computer was protected from these people gaining future access.

Now Google 'MCHELPER' and 'SCAM' and you will see other people who have accidently called MCHELPER and given them access to their computers, at which point MCHELPER informed them that they have been hacked and need a credit card. Wow!!! This just gets me mad.

Review: I have been locked out of my [redacted] email account which I have had for 10 years. When I called this company that does [redacted] customer service Operator located in [redacted] he said that I had to pay them 89.99 a month to get them to unlock my account that is advertised to be free? Please help I would like to get back into my account I have documents in there that I need to get asap. Please help me resolve my issue and get back in then if I want to keep account I will then pay and do what is needed. If the service changed and is not free they should tell you to give the opportunity to decide not lock you out. Thank you in advance for all your help.Desired Settlement: please see above complaint

I am rejecting this response because: I did chat with a rep [redacted] from MC Helper just now to help resolve matter.

He is unable to resolve without me paying him a fee. My [redacted] account was free 10 years ago. It seems like just a scam to lock me out and then charge me a monthly fee to allow me to access my free [redacted] account. I believe it is possible for them to unlock my account because they are the one's that have locked. Please advise me if I need to do anything further.

Below is a copy of the complaint I've furnished to the Florida Attorney General's Office:

I called MC Helper on February 26, because I could not connect with my

Hotmail/Outlook account on either my computer or phone. A representative named

[redacted] offered to help, and told me that if he found more than ten problems, my

files would need to be cleaned and malicious attempts to hack my account would

be blocked. A scan showed 27 'errors', which I was told would cost $199.99 to

repair, and that this charge would include year-long protection and

maintenance, which I agreed to, believing that there were no other options.

Further scans were made, I was given a new password for my e-mail account, and

within about a half hour was able to access my account. Coincidentally, I was

also able to access my account with my IPhone, which MC Helper had no access

to; this made me wonder if Hotmail/Outlook had simply been temporarily down.

I later accessed MC Helper's website, and only then saw several packages

offered, including the Instant Support package for $59.99, which includes

"Immediate computer servicing for emergency rescue; On-Call support at the

lowest service charge; Least time estimation to resolve even the most critical

issues; and One time support." I called Friday, February 27, and spoke to

[redacted], who three times insisted on the year-long coverage, even after I made

clear that I no longer wanted that. He then said he'd have to speak with his

manager--no representative pushes its company's most expensive package as the

only option without the prior knowledge of management. After complaining

further on February 28, I was told by another representative that the work that

was done required the three month package fee.

After complaining further via email I was reimbursed $140 of the $199.99. In

retrospect, I suspect that whatever services were performed had little or no

relevance to my email connection, and that all attempts were made to sell me

the most expensive package, without informing the consumer of alternatives. I'm

filing this report less to seek full reimbursement--though I really don't trust

the company or its methods--than to encourage your office to look into its

practices.
