Markel American Insurance Company Reviews (53)

In looking over Mr [redacted] ’s account, InventionHome did a great deal of work on his product To summarize, we sent his product to companies for review This is a great deal of companies, unfortunately, none have expressed interest at this time, but we are continuing to follow up with ones to which we have already introduced the productAdditionally, we have featured Mr [redacted] ’s product as a “May we Suggest” contact over times and continue to host it on our iShowOnlineWe will continue to market the product as long as there is valid patent protection on it I would like to clarify the fees that Mr [redacted] paid to InventionHome were for services provided, not for the marketing The patent search, provisional patent application and development of a website are all tangible services Regarding the marketing of the website, we do that on contingency As our marketing information explains, the MAP Report acts as representation of the marketing department’s progress for as long as working with usIt is updated on a monthly basis, but a customer will receive immediate contact if there is interest in their product, specific feedback, or questions we cannot properly answerThis report will show updates on attempts to contact and quantify the amount of companies to which we are presenting the productThis is the same information that is available in our database and can be viewed at any time by the customer Additionally, Mr [redacted] was provided with and agreed to our Service Agreement during the online setup process To reiterate language contained in this document, “Client acknowledges that Jacob does not evaluate product potential, express opinions on product marketability or guarantee the success or patentability of client’s product and that client’s decision to pursue product is based on his/her own belief in product potential Client acknowledges that Jacob did not make any claims or express opinions asserting the likelihood of marketability, success or patentability of client’s productWe understand the marketing/licensing process can be frustrating Unfortunately, InventionHome cannot control companies’ interest in Mr [redacted] ’s, or anyone else’s, products We can only make sure that we provide our inventors with the best invention portfolio possible and the most chances to be seen by relevant companies that we canPlease feel free to contact me should you require any further information

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Regards, [redacted] WHEN I CALLED HOME INVENTION ,I TOLD THEM THAT ON THE ONE INVENTION I HAD ALL READY HAD PAYED FOR AND RECEIVED A PATENT ON IT AND BY THE WAY IT WILL SOON HAVE TO BE RENEWED THE OTHER ONE I DID NOT GET A PATENT ON IT WHEN I CALLED THEM THE VARY FIRST TIME THEY SAID THAT THE MONEY I HAD TO PAY WOULD COVER EVERY THING AND THEN LATER ON THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR A LAWYER AND IF YOU CAN GET A RECORDING OF THAT CONVERSATION YOU WILL FIND THAT TO BE TRUE

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 11827675, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Unfortunately, InventionHome failed to respond to our complaint The dispute has nothing to do with the creation of a portfolio, the dispute focuses on their failure to verify they have followed through with the service they claim to provide InventionHome sold us a service which claims to approach multiple companies they supposedly have relationships with and market our product to these companies InventionHome has failed to give any evidence whatsoever they have followed through with the service they claim to have providedThey refuse to provide any proof whatsoever they followed through with their claims Regards, Leith Emery

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below First of all, their response does not explain why they never returned any of my calls I paid them a fee for service and how is it that they cannot at least give me a call back when I have concerns as to why my account was not showing any followup and response to their marketing efforts In the beginning, they did show their correspondence and feedback from the various companies I could see their input Then, after a few months they stopped and all the previous comments that I had read were removed So I tried to reach out and find out what was going on and I could not get anyone to respond As far as Conair being one of their accounts, they are ignoring the fact that I was even told BEFORE I made my decision to move forward I feel that I was told for the sole purpose of persuading me to move forward The fact is, they will NOT reveal to me any of the contacts that they've sent my invention to They told me they can't due to confidentiality So if that is the case, then why did the salesman tell me about Conair? Why is it that he told me and the others won't? There's only ONE reasonmy invention is a hair dryer He was trying to entice me with the fact that of course Conair would be interested in my productThat is misleading and unlawful according to my rightsThe way I see it, I was dooped If one employee is revealing confidential company information from a client list, then why can they not give me the names of the companies that they are marketing to? It's a question that deserves an answer I paid this company a fee for service I did not, in all good conscience, pay for a so called listing, month after month, of the SAME EXACT statement telling me absolutely nothing Lastly, she says I have access to my account That's true NOW I do But what she's not telling you is that when this thing started, I didn't I was blocked out, on my computer and on my phone I just recently received an email from her stating that they supposedly had problems with their server Rather convenient that she fixed the problem right before she responded to my complaintwith no mention of the server issue. Not impressed at all with their response and the way I have been handled overall They did absolutely nothing to try and resolve this issuenot even ONE phone call Would not recommend this company to anyone in the market Will be ever so eager to express my extreme disappointment in the future Regards, [redacted]

I can assure you that the services that you paid for are in no way a "scam" and I believe that I will be able to clear everything up for you by going over some informationFirst, I can understand your disappointment that your product has not been licensed However, the entire invention process, even when you have a good team marketing the product for you, and a fantastic game plan is a gamble The rate of success with new products is 3-5% in the very best of circumstances This is why our paperwork cautions an inventor that there are absolutely no guarantees as to if we will be able to find them a deal or not This information was communicated to you in the Service Agreement that you agreed to on 6/2/After reviewing your account, it likes like we sent your product to over companiesThis is a great deal of companies, unfortunately, none have expressed interest At no point does InventionHome promise that your product will get a deal We cannot control a company's decision about any given product; however, you can be sure that you are working with a company that has a successful track record in helping inventors navigate this challenging process, and we do promise our commitment to providing you with a quality marketing tool and your product with as many opportunities to be evaluated by companies as possibleThe success of your invention is important to you (and to us) and I can understand your desire to be in contact with us regularly concerning its progress in marketing As it states in the information provided to you in the marketing section of your online account, it is not possible for our marketing team to call or personally email thousands of inventors on a monthly basis because this would greatly take away from their time and ability to focus on getting your invention marketed to as many companies as they can The MAP report tool that you have access to in your account is our marketing department’s way to efficiently and effectively keep our inventors updated on the status of their invention on a monthly basisAdditionally, you are always welcome to contact your Customer Account Manager or the marketing department directly with any questions or concernsThe email that was sent to you regarding additional patent protection was sent as a courtesy reminder that your provisional application is expiring soon and that you need to consider additional patent protection As the email clearly states, InventionHome does not prepare non-provisional patent applications, therefore, any questions would have to be directed to a patent attorney I would like to clarify the fees that you paid to InventionHome were for services provided The development of your website is a tangible service, and that's what we provided to you Regarding the marketing of your website, we do that on contingency Meaning, you do not pay us unless we successfully license your product (that's where the 20% commission comes in) I hope I was able to answer your questions and clarify the issues

Invention Home did not make an attempt to market my product on a One-on-One basis Based on the customer login dashboard, you can tell they submit Inventions in a BATCH via email to these companies they claim to have a contract with.INVENTION HOME DOES NOT REACH OUT TO THESE COMPANIES ON A PERSONAL BASIS AT ALL!!Again, their method used is copy & paste to the Dashboard every weeks to fool the consumer (Me) into thinking they are personally contacting these companies, working diligently to market my Invention, when in fact THEY ARE NOT! This is true deception, and as a operating business, if they know each Invention portfolio WILL NOT be marketed on a one-on-one basis to specific companies, they should have disclosed that in the very beginning instead of ripping people off of their hard working money This is not only advertising, but FRAUD as wellAgain, I am asking for a full refund of my $(total amount paid for portfolio) but am willing to accept half a refund ($799.00)Thank you

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowThis company seem to have an answer for EVERY COMPLAINT brought against them simply because they are defrauding honesthard working Americans like myself out of their money They tell every potential 'Inventor" Yes! you have a brilliant Idea",do a quick fake scan to see if there are any products like yours currently on the market, rush you to buy an expensive marketingportfolio, then BAM! DISAPPEAR, avoid emails and any further questions you have about your Marketing statusI want a FAIR & Quick resolution to this because I just want to move on with my life, and pretend I didn't make a fool out of myselfby trusting these individuals AGAIN, I AM ASKING FOR A FULL REFUND OF MY MARKETING PORTFOLIO, BUT I AM WILLING TO SETTLE FOR HALF OF THE PORTFOLIO PRICE I PAID!!! Regards, [redacted] - [redacted]

In response to the letter written by Invention home the first paragraph states I never complained of their services, this is a LieI complained by phone to Jared R [redacted] in December of about the marketing policies and that he did not verbally or in writing inform me before I signed up with the programThis was to the point of a argumenti guess MrR [redacted] has a poor memory!! He stated why I was complaining to him and stated I should talk to Cindy A [redacted] my account managerI complained to Jared R [redacted] because he signed me up, not CindyI did also complain to Cindy A [redacted] a few times in about the maketing policy at the same time checking on the progress or interest in my back machineIn response to stating their maketing policy is "ETHICAL", this is a joke! If the policy was ethical they would have told me up front before I paid my moneyThe funny thing about that is probably most people would NOT sign up if this was expressed up frontNo they have to put it in fine writing in the contract Bottom line I don't care if I receive my money back I know I have been ripped offThis company should be exposed for what they are, which is deceivingI still don't know who they marketed my product to or if they ever marketed the product at allThere is absolutely no proof!! BUYER be ware for anyone who is considering Invention Home, DON't DO IT.Regards, [redacted]

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Regards, [redacted] I still say that when they told me I had to pay a attorney fee that is when I herd noting from them .I already had a patent on my trailer hitch stepsas for the cash register taser patent I did not have a patent and I don,t think I will ever get one on it.from what I here from them at patent home I will not get any satisfaction from them

Ms [redacted] purchased an invention portfolio website from InventionHome on 12/28/in the amount of $ The monies paid to InventionHome were for services related to the creation of Ms [redacted] ’s portfolio website, not the marketing of her productAttached are the Work Verification and Service Agreement documents that Ms [redacted] agreed to on 12/30/ Both documents outline marketing services are done on a contingency basis and not part of the paid services, and paragraph in the Service Agreement states all sales are non-refundable after the work has been completed When Ms [redacted] ’s product was sent to the marketing team to be scheduled out to companies our team went through the entire company database by hand and selected the most applicable companies and submitted Ms [redacted] ’s product Our marketing department tries to reach as many companies as possible and they don’t restrict themselves to certain categories, basically if a company has the means to produce a product and it matches their criteria, they will send it Ms [redacted] ’s claim that the type of portfolio website she purchased received different amount of work is completely and without merit We utilize The Marketing Activity Program (MAP) Report as an on-line summarization that provides inventors with ongoing updates about the marketing effortsThis page updates every month to display recent marketing activityEach entry in the report represents a different company that has been contacted While I can understand Ms [redacted] ’s desire to be in direct contact with us regularly about her invention's progress in marketing, it is not possible for our marketing team to call or personally email every inventor on a regular basis with an update The MAP report tool is our marketing department’s way to efficiently and effectively keep our inventors updated on the status of their invention on a monthly basis The marketing team always contacts inventors directly if a company has any feedback for, or interest in, an invention All customers are made aware that we utilize the MAP report as the main form of communication regarding marketing efforts I do understand that the MAP report can look repetitive The MAP report is meant to be a summary of the marketing activity and when the marketing team documents their work, the system that loads the MAP report produces standard entries for the different types of activities If a company has feedback or interest that information is manually entered by the marketing team (after they contact the inventor about it) and produces an entry that reflects more specific information To help Ms [redacted] understand her MAP report a bit better, a Portfolio Site Submission entry on her MAP report indicates the direct submission of her invention information to our contact at a company A May We Suggest (MWS) entry is a way to bring ongoing exposure to her invention where we randomly cycle invention information to relevant companies in categories that her invention falls into, which can add numerous additional company submissions Regardless of the type of submission, each line item on Ms [redacted] ’s MAP report represents contact with a company Please feel free to direct any further correspondence regarding this matter directly to me Thanks, Marcia

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. As stated in previous emails, this company is deceiving hard working Americans like myself out of their money.I am just beyond sick of the back and forth, with them having a trained attorney to correspond to these emails becausethey question their own Integrity in this business, to avoid their backs against a wall They continue to use a copy/paste method on the Dashboard, and submit all inventions via batch method versus Individually marketing to companies for moreexposure There is ABSOLUTELY NO FOLLOW THROUGH!! Again, at this point, I am willing to accept Half my money back ($799.00/ half of the portfolio package price I paid)and to just move on with my life vowing to NEVER Invest my money or time with a company like this!! CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON FROM THIS BACK AND FORTH EMAILING Revdex.com?? Respectfully,
*** ***

We are sorry to hear the customer is dissatisfied with our responseInventionHome did not lead Ms*** to believe she had a brand new invention. InventionHome provided Ms*** with a thorough patent search which contained of the most relevant prior art that were similar to her invention. After reviewing the patent search results, Ms*** chose to move forward with protecting her idea and marketing services. Additionally, Ms*** was provided with and approved the Service Agreement which clearly states: Client has been explained the content and extent of the Services and acknowledges an understanding of the same. Client acknowledges that Jacob does not evaluate product potential, express opinions on product marketability or guarantee the success or patentability of client’s product and that client’s decision to pursue product is based on his/her own belief in product potential. Client acknowledges that Jacob did not make any claims or express opinions asserting the likelihood of marketability, success or patentability of client’s product. InventionHome submitted Ms***’s product to many of the top toy industry companies, including ***; however, *** communicated they do not accept outside ideas. This information was noted on Ms***’s marketing activity reportMs***’s complaint does not contain merit for a full refund as all paid services were approved and completed, and InventionHome cannot control whether or not a company will choose to license a product that we have submitted. In good faith, however, InventionHome is willing to offer Ms*** a 50% refund on the marketing services. The refund amount would be $and includes the Portfolio and Audio portion of paid services. If this is unacceptable, we are willing to offer Ms*** free marketing services on a second idea

We are sorry to hear of Mr***'s dissatisfaction; however, there are inaccuracies in the complaint filed with the Revdex.com. Mr*** purchased a patent search from InventionHome on 1/6/for $ The complaint suggests services were purchased in for a
cost of $299.00, which is incorrect. After completion of paid services, Mr*** was sent his patent search results, as well as "Next Steps" documents both via email and mail These documents outline for the customer other paid services InventionHome offers should the customer want to proceed Mr*** never contacted our office to move forward after receipt of his patent search results In fact, this complaint is the first we have heard from Mr*** since 2016.If any other information is required, please let me know. Thanks,Marcia V***

I can confirm Mr***'s product was sent to individual companies by our marketing department. This is a great deal of companies, however, none expressed interest in his product. I would like to reiterate, however, Mr*** did not pay for marketing. These services are free and done on a contingency basis. In regards to Mr***'s comments regarding release of company names, Mr*** was well aware we wouldn't release company names. This information is communicated in the online Service Agreement, which Mr*** agreed to on 6/2/2016. Paragraph of the Service Agreement states:Knowledge. Both Client and Jacob understand that certain information about the Product must be provided to third parties as part of providing the Services. Unless otherwise agreed by Client, Jacob shall provide such information only to third parties that have signed an appropriate non-disclosure agreement with Jacob. Client agrees to release Jacob from and hold Jacob harmless for any liability for any damages, real or otherwise, that may be caused to Client as a result of a third or unauthorized party gaining knowledge of the Product (such as through a third party’s breach of a non-disclosure agreement), including, but not limited to, knowledge gained as a result of the Product being listed on the iShowOnline. Furthermore, client understands that Jacob will not release names of companies contacted until a company waives confidentiality by either a) making an offer to license or purchase client’s invention or b) requests to involve client directly in review and evaluation Prior to a company waiving confidentiality, Jacob has an obligation to maintain confidentiality for its member companies. If you require any further information, please let me know. Regards,Marcia V***Director, Customer Operations

We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. After reviewing your account, it likes like we sent your product to over companies, unfortunately, none have expressed interest as of yet. Conair is a member company, however, they changed their submission policies and we were not able to
submit your product. This is not uncommon. Company submission policies are constantly changing (daily/weekly/monthly) and we do not have any control over these changesThe success of your invention is important to you (and to us) and I can understand your desire to be in contact with us regularly concerning progress in marketing. As it states in the information provided to you in the marketing section of your online account, it is not possible for our marketing team to call or personally email thousands of inventors because this would greatly take away from their time and ability to focus on getting your invention marketed to as many companies as they can. The MAP report tool that you have access to in your account is our marketing department’s way to efficiently and effectively keep our inventors updated on the status of their invention. This report is available to you for your review at any time, and is updated at the beginning of each monthYour account has never been “shut off”, and you have always had access to your account with the proper login information. Unless the customer requests their site be deactivated, our system will keep a customer site active until their patent protection expires. Your patent protection does not expire until January 2018; therefore, the system continues to keep your site active and accessibleI would like to clarify the fees that you paid to InventionHome were for the development of your website. These tangible services were approved of and provided to you. Additionally, the paid services were provided to you on a disk. The marketing of your website is done on a contingency. Meaning, you do not pay us unless we successfully license your product (that's where the 20% commission comes in). This information is contained in the Service Agreement that you agreed to on 10/10/2016. I hope I was able to answer your questions and clarify the issues. Marcia V***Director, Customer Operations

InventionHome is sorry to hear of Mr***’s dissatisfaction. Mr*** became a client of ours in August and, outside of Mr*** contacting our company twice in to check on his marketing activity, he has not voiced any type of dissatisfaction with the services he received from
us. Mr*** paid for provisional patent and virtual design services on 8/26/and was setup with an ID and Password to access the online portal. The online portal contains all relevant information, including Work Verification, Service Agreement, and outline of the process. Mr*** reviewed and approved all documents on 8/27/2016. The attached Service Agreement clearly states in section due to confidentiality reasons InventionHome is not able to provide company names. The inability to display company names is not deceiving, as Mr*** claims in his complaint, but rather our ethical and legal obligation since each company that InventionHome works with signs a confidentiality agreement. For Mr*** to claim that he was not made aware is completely false. Additionally, Mr*** had the option to exercise his right of cancellation of services days after purchase and InventionHome would have gladly refunded his monies (see highlighted Service Agreement) if not comfortable with the information contained in the Service Agreement. Mr*** claims in his complaint that the artwork of his invention was not to his satisfaction, but our records indicate Mr*** approved of his artwork on 11/5/(see attached). If Mr*** was not completely satisfied with the design of his virtual design work he should not have approved of the workAgain, we are sorry to hear of Mr***’s dissatisfaction; however, all information regarding the process and services purchased was provided and Mr*** chose to move forwardPlease feel free to contact me should you have any questions or require additional information Marcia V***

No we do not agree with their response, first it's several people inquired, now it's or they sent it to they're not being clear either people inquired or people were notified of our inventionI'm starting to think nobody was notified, they just slap it on their website and leave itThey did tell us when they took our money that they had plenty of commercial clients (this is a commercial invention) yet none of their commercial clients are listed on their website, they say they've done work but they won't prove it, they won't tell us who they sent the information toThey won't tell us who inquired about the invention, which tells me nobody inquiredBecause if somebody inquired or you sent it out, you should be able to back that up and for some reason they refused toSo the only thing that they can do in my opinion is to actually do their jobs and promote this invention like they should have for a year on them, or reimburse meThank you*** ***

We are sorry to hear that Ms*** remains dissatisfied and can understand her frustrations. InventionHome would like to clarify Ms***’s claimsInventionHome most certainly did attempt to market Ms***’s invention and submitted her product to quite a few companies. To date, InventionHome has submitted Ms***’s product to companies. Each line item on Ms***’s marketing activity report represents a company contacted. Additionally, Ms***’s product is scheduled to go to an additional companies. In total, Ms***’s product will have gone to over companies, which is a great deal of work and contactMs*** was aware that her product is delivered to company contacts via our Hotlinks service and submission system, and received a copy of her product-related Hotlink at the end of the process. We specifically send this to our customers so they can see how a company will review their product. InventionHome does not use a “copy/paste” system but rather a sophisticated submission system setup to deliver new product ideas directly to a company portal and specific contact. Ms***’s claim that we are a deceptive operating business is not true and without merit. We have licensed new products, which is not an easy task. Unfortunately, not all new product ideas will receive a licensing agreement and have found most customers become dissatisfied when a company does not show interest in their product. InventionHome cannot control which products a company chooses to license Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or require additional information.Marcia V***

Response to Ms*** *** Revdex.com Complaint #***
Unfortunately, Ms***’s follow up with the Wisconsin Revdex.com does not provide any new information that would warrant different action on the part of Markel American Insurance Company (“MAIC”). Ms*** has forwarded a “Completion Certificate” in connection with a motorcycle safety course. This is not new information for MAIC, and MAIC was previously aware of her completion of this course. In fact, the canceled policy reflected a discount for completion of the course.
As previously provided to the Revdex.com the circumstances surrounding this complaint are:
On October 19, Ms*** purchased a motorcycle insurance policy with MAIC. The information provided to MAIC at the time of the purchase indicated that Ms*** carried a valid motorcycle endorsement, and had no applicable accidents or moving violations on her record. Based on this information MAIC issued a policy As a part of the underwriting process, MAIC requested a Motor Vehicle Record for Ms*** and discovered that there were inaccuracies in the information provided at time of application. MAIC notified Ms*** that the premium would be adjusted to reflect the change in the risk being insured
On November 25, 2014, Ms*** called MAIC’s Customer Service team to cancel her motorcycle insurance policy due to the increased premium. Her policy was canceled effective that day. Ms*** was told at the time that any unearned premium would be refunded to her in the next few weeks
The policy issued Ms*** allows for 90% pro rata unearned premium refund when policy cancellation is at the insureds request. The portion of premium owed MAIC for days of coverage and the additional 10% unearned premium amounts to $481.00. This pro-rata rating procedure is approved by the Virginia Department of Insurance, and is a common practice across most motorcycle insurers. Ms*** had paid $therefore there was no unearned premium to be refunded
We appreciate having the opportunity to insure Ms*** and are disappointed that she was unable to keep her policy with us
