McKenzie Real Estate Reviews (%countItem)

Vacation rental was not what we paid for, and they are holding money from us.
We booked a condo with Gary and Dane ***, and the room is not in working condition. The AC does not work properly, and even the HVAC guy that they had come agreed that it was not working. This is advertised as a 2 bedroom 2 bath, but one of the showers didn't work. They also charged us for damage that we did not do, and never gave us a chance to explain that we never went out on the balcony through that door. In my opinion, I feel like we were scammed. They keep the rent low on their unit so they can take people's deposits. They offered no compensation for the issues that were going on during the rental and have horrible customer service when asked about not receiving our deposit refund.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of 1/2 of our rental amount, totaling $680.65, along with the full deposit of $350

The vacation rental is exactly as it is advertised. Even though the AC works properly, we had an HVAC repairman go out and take a look as soon as he was available. I met him at the condo and it was cool inside. When the guests checked out, it was 73 degrees inside the unit when it was being cleaned. The AC was and is cooling as intended.
As for one of the showers, I am certain the guest would have complained while here had it not been working. This is the first I've heard about this issue. When the unit was cleaned upon their check out, there was no issue with either of the showers. Both bathrooms work properly, and the current guest has no issues either.
The guest is once again not being honest when stating she did not have a chance to explain they did not use the door to go out on the balcony. She mentioned this several times in the numerous text messages she sent while harassing us after her checkout. However, you do not have to use the door for the security bar to get broken. If a child hangs from the bar, it can bend and break the bar. I do not know if a child was with them, and I am not saying this is what happened, it just an example of how damage can occur even if you do not use this particular door. The unit is inspected between each guest to discover damage so we know when the damage occurs and which guest to charge. This way, we can honestly address false claims such as this one.
The business owners are not the scammers in this case. The guest received exactly what she paid for, but for some reason is seeking a refund for half of the charges for her stay. We did withhold $100 from her security deposit to cover the parts and labor to repair the security bar that was damaged during her stay. We are not seeking any additional funds, and no refund is due in this matter. The guest/customer needs to cease and desist with the negative slurs against our business and stop filing falsified complaints.

The owners are not being truthful. The HVAC man said multiple times that the AC unit was not working properly, and the room was upwards of 76 degrees at times. We could not use any of the features of the room as the temperature was so high. This is absolutely NOT what we paid for. As far as the broken door handle, we never used that door, nor were we ever near it to cause the damage, as we spent no time in the living room because of the temperature of the unit.

He stated in a text message that the cleaning person missed quite a few things upon their inspection of the room before we got there. Examples of this are: the thermostat being set on 55 degrees, the incredibly dirty air filter, and that the lever to activate the shower in the master bathroom would not stay up, rendering the shower useless.

I am requesting half of our money back, because the room was advertised as "newly renovated" and implied that all parts of the room were functional...which they were not. My complaints are not falsified, and I am reviewing their business as I experienced it. I have never had an issue with any other owner, and I have been staying at this resort and renting through VRBO for years.

The HVAC was actually 73 degrees when being cleaned, not 76 degrees. It is functioning properly, and was during the week of the guests' stay. It could be true the thermostat was set on 55, but this is minor and does not affect a guest's stay. As for the air filter not being changed, that was overlooked and replaced within an hour of the guest letting us know. Again, a minor issue that was resolved immediately. However, never was it acknowledged that the cleaner overlooked a non-working shower lever as it is currently working; the shower is not useless. The entire condo was and is useable and functioning as intended. Additionally, the guest used the entire condo, including the living room; as stated in our original comments, food crumbs would not have been on the sofa cushions and in the floor had the room not been used. I understand the guest is unhappy about having to pay repair costs for a broken security bar on the door that was not broken upon their arrival, but there is no justification for a refund of any monies.

The AC was absolutely NOT working properly. My husband, who has been in the HVAC field for 15 years, as well as the HVAC technician that the owners had come to the unit, both verified and agreed that the unit was NOT working to appropriate standards.

The door was NOT broken by us, as stated before, we never used it, nor did we use the living room. Also, it seems that your cleaning person missed the thermostat, missed the air filter, missed the crumbs on the couch (that we also did not use) so it is extremely likely that she missed the door being broken. To hold us accountable for damage that was caused before us, and was missed by your incompetent cleaning person is unethical. To say that an AC is working properly, when two professionals say that it is not working properly, is unethical. I want a refund of part of our rent, as well as our entire security deposit.
