Merry Maids Reviews (129)

Review: I met with [redacted] customer service specialist from merry maids National City at my condo (555 Front St San Diego, Ca, 92101) on Tuesday Aug 18th and discussed cleaning the condo after complete remodeling. During our visit I was assured by [redacted] that the team of two that would show up on Saturday Aug 22nd are professional and will have all the tools to make the condo spotless. Everything in the condo is brand new but dusty. The appointment was set for 9:00am and I agreed to pay $450 for a complete clean up.

The two ladies arrived at 10:30am. They didn’t have a ladder with them. When asked about the ladder by my wife they claimed to have one in their vehicle but didn’t bother bring it with them. My wife offered them parking at the garage in the building which they refused. Three hours after their arrival they called my wife and told her they were done and leaving. They wouldn’t wait for her to get there to review the work they did. When my wife got back to condo she found it still dirty the ladies did a very subpar job and condo was still dusty and needed a lot more cleaning. I tried to call [redacted] earlier in the day when nobody has shown up and only got a voice mail and a message that the office was closed. My wife and I are both work full time and since we are moving this week my wife and a friend spent most of Sunday finish cleaning the condo. I called merry maid’s office at 8:40am Monday morning and talked to [redacted] and told her what happened. She told me she would talk to her manager and get back to me. I didn’t hear from anyone by 11:25 and called back and asked to talk to a manager and was told she is not available and in and out of office all day. when I asked for the corporate office phone number the person on the phone told me that every branch is individually owned and calling corporate office wouldn’t do me any good. She told me I need to send them an email and tell them what I think is fair.

[redacted] promised me a professional cleaning and what I got was a vacuum and dust off a condo that just finished a complete renovation and needed much more than a vacuum. They charged my credit card $450 and I would like them to reverse the charge completely.

By the way, the two ladies used the new dining room chairs as a stepping stool to dust off higher sections.

Merry Maids [aka Dionne Enterprise] should be forced to go out of business. Please refer to complaints at the Consumer Affairs website. This business makes you sign a contract. If you have any complaints, you are told that the contract can only be terminated by paying the difference of the First Time In Cleaning and First Time In Cleaning discount. For me this totals $208.00 difference that has been put on my credit card..
Consumer BEWARE! This company is a fraud. The maids are told to stay at each home for one and one half hour regardless if the job is complete. I was told that merry maids would supply their own cleaning supplies and that satisfaction was guaranteed. This is a JOKE!
I'm so mad at myself for signing this horrible contract and now being billed $208.00 on my credit card!

Review: I hired Merry Maids last month. I had to sign a one year contract. The first cleaning was satisfactory. The second cleaning lasted one and one half hours. The two maids were in a hurry and did a terrible job. I spoke to the local manager who did not want to hear my complaint. He told me the only way I could get out of the contract would be to pay $208.00. The bi-weekly rate was $156.00. This totals out to$1.73 per minute for a 90 minute cleaning. This has taught me a great lesson. Do not sign a contract with merry maids! Read the reviews on Consumer Affairs before calling merry maids! This company should be forced to go out of business and soon before others get conned into their contract!Desired Settlement: I want to be reimbursed for the $208.00. The contract states that satisfaction is guaranteed. The contract also states that merry maids will supply their own cleaning supplies. I was asked to supply floor cleaner for the downstairs floors.

I was also told that the job would not be finished until all the requirements would be met and that our home would be cleaned.

Tell us why here...Merry Maids cleaned [redacted]'s house on 6/29/15 after a few months of telephone conversations about getting a cheaper price. She scheduled 1st cleaning starting on 6/29/15 then going to every 2 weeks. Our 1st time cleaning is charged by the hour at $110/hr for 2 people. I personally went to meet with her at her home to review her cleaning needs and all pricing on 4/29/15. I gave her a copy of the agreement with her signature that she understood what our service offered. Our staff entered her house and had [redacted] initial the start time of our hourly rate. She told us she wanted only 3 hours of cleaning. When our employees reached the 3 hour limit she instructed them to continue cleaning for 30 minutes longer so her floors could be washed. We did as she requested. Our staff members totaled up the hourly charge for 3 1/2 hours. She refused to pay for the extra 30 minutes and the sales tax. After she signed our paperwork stating she was satisfied with the cleaning and gave the ladies a check, for wrong amount, she contacted our office with complaints. We spoke to her about rushing our cleaners to finish the job and why she didn't pay full amount. She told me she had no intentions of paying more than 3 hours even though she asked them to stay longer and wasn't going to pay the tax. I personally went to her house on 6/30/15 to inspect the job. They did miss the top of a dresser and a ceiling fan and I offered to send them back to re clean. I did not see anything else wrong and took pictures of items she said were not done well. Her brother was with me during the walk thru and he didn't see much either. I called her from the house explaining my findings. I also called and left a message for her on 7/1/15 & 7/2/15 at 9:20am and never heard back from [redacted] again until this complaint. We will not refund her money for a job that was completed in her presence and with her approval/signature she was happy with our service. She still owes us money. I did follow up with her as best as I can. I will be happy to discuss this matter if she decides to contact our office.

I am rejecting this response because:I have not signed any job satisfactions performed on cleaning day. I have not contracted 3+ hours with them. They said house will be nice and clean and I am very unhappy with job. I did sign starting time when they asked me initially as entering my home. I received paper from merry maid with fake or fraudulent signature that was not mine. I have emailed pictures to them for things that were not cleaned right after service. They should refund my money because job is not completed or else come and clean again. Thanks.

Regards,

Review: Damage was done to my carpet when I was not at home. There was almost zero follow up to rectify the situation. Merry Maids of [redacted] also debited my checking account for services not rendered.Desired Settlement: Damage cost to carpet caused by Merry Maids: $1,332.44Overcharges by Merry Maids for services not rendered: $400.00

I sent email 11/18/15, received no response. I called and tried to leave messages on 11/19 and 11/20, got no answer, mailbox was full. I called her back and spoke to her on 11/23. the cleaning service was performed in full on 1/23/15. I initially followed up with her 3/19/15. to date I have not received any particulars regarding the stain to carpet. weve not been able to inspect, not received any pictures, etc. as far as we are concerned we did not damage the carpet and have no evidence to prove otherwise. also there is nothing to back up or support her position that we charged her account for services not rendered. in summary, because she is yet to back up her claim with anything definitive or in a timely manner, this claim is unsubstantiated and invalid.

Review: My mother hired Merry Maids to clean her empty condo in preparation to show for sale on December 15, 2014. The Service Proposal that their representative [redacted] wrote up included specific instructions for each room and equipment needed to bring. January 3, 2015 they arrived but did not come with the equipment needed. The cleaning provided was so poor I had to go back and clean it myself. I took pictures of the rugs that were not vacuumed properly since debris was left behind. The drawers and cabinet where not wiped out as instructed in the proposed agreement. Since the house was empty of all furniture I was very upset to see what they consider a clean home. I called the follow Monday January 5, 2015 and spoke with [redacted] the office manager. I requested a credit of $150.00 of the $308.16 charged. She agreed to credit my mother credit card. I checked my mothers account and as of January 9, 2015 no credit was shown. I called [redacted] back and she informed me that she issued the credit on January 5, 2015. To this day their still hasn't been a credit made to my mothers account. My mother contacted her credit card and place a charge dispute against Merry Maids of Hamilton. We are still in the process with the credit card company to resolve this issue. And at this point I feel [redacted] had just been telling me lies knowing they were not going to credit my mothers account and hopefully we would just go away.Desired Settlement: I want my mother to be refunded the entire amount of $308.16 that was charged.

Review: I signed a contract with Merry Maids on 10/30/2014 for cleaning every 2 weeks for one year. Mistake. The first cleaning, which was described to me as a deeper cleaning than future services was on 11/4/2014. The gentleman was a good salesman, definitely. When I signed, I asked him if there was anything in the fine print that I should know about, he said no. I did not read the entire contract. The first cleaning was $302.00 dollars. Future cleanings were to be $159.00 each. Breach of contract would be a $300.00 fee. The day after the first cleaning, I spoke to 2 different people in the Merry Maids office. The gentleman I signed with did not speak to me. The cleaning was NOT thorough. The fine print that I did not read included that they do not clean showers. My shower, floor and tiles, was untouched. The floor behind my pedestal sink was filthy, and other surfaces were untouched. Basically, they clean the bathroom floor, toilet, and sink, period. Although, I specifically told him that the kitchen cabinets needed to be wiped down, they were not. Also, when the two women were finished my bedroom, I went up stairs and found "a piece" of a glass and marble turtle that was was on my night table. Shocked, I looked around and found the rest of it under my loveseat. The women had not notified me that they had broken anything. I went downstairs and approached them, and one of them said, yes, they had broken it. I was very upset as this is not replaceable. At the end of their cleaning, I signed a satisfaction statement but noted the broken item. Another mistake. I did not want to embarrass the women and chose to speak to the company directly about my concerns. I told both of the people I spoke to in the office that I wanted out of the contract and would dispute the $300.00 breach of contract fee. I understand the value of that signed piece of paper, however, I also paid double for the first (inferior) cleaning and lost something of value to me. I was SHOCKED that they were unwilling to compensate me in any way. With them, there was NO discussion.

In addition to all of this, I had a reaction to the scent of their cleaning products. They use something with a strong cinnamon scent that gave me a terrible headache. I do not generally get headaches, at all!Desired Settlement: I would like the $300.00 breach of contract fee credited back to my credit card. I would NEVER use their services and would discourage anyone else from using them. Also, I believe that I have 3 days to break a contract. This should be from the first day that services are rendered, as I was not aware of the poor quality of their work.

November 28, 2014Dear [redacted],We are responding to complaint ID [redacted].[redacted] contracted our company on October 30, 2014. Our first time housecleaning fee was $585.00 ($620.10 with PA sales tax). [redacted] was offered a $300 loyalty discount in exchange for an agreement of 24 cleanings with our company. After the initial cleaning [redacted] called with 2 small quality issues. We immediately offered to send a team back to clean any item in her home that she felt was unsatisfactory. Our offers were refused, as was the request to allow a manager to come assess her home to see confirm that her dissatisfaction was warranted. We explained to [redacted] that per our agreement which she signed, we were going to charge her credit card for the $300 that she was originally discounted, since she was cancelling her contract with us. She admitted that she understood our position and knew that she had signed a contract, but that she did not think that she should be charged. In our agreement it is clearly stated that if the agreement is cancelled by the customer, the first time cleaning fee will be charged to the credit card on file and the remaining number of cleanings not scheduled within the designated time period of 1 year may be charged as well. We are not requiring [redacted] to pay for the additional 24 cleanings she had contracted us for. We only charged her for the first time discount she received. Our agreement has no fine print. We have enclosed a copy for you to review. Please feel free to contact our office with any questions that you have regarding this matter.Sincerely,Lindsay HOffice Manager
