The business returned and did the work to my satisfaction

Thank you for contacting us about our customer We have referred this case to our attorney and will continue to keep the Revdex.com involved in the outcome. If you require any further response, please feel free to let us know

Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 5, 2016/06/29) */ We went out to [redacted] Greens residents on 03/18/Our representative did a test spot to make sure that we could remove the stain that she had on her deckThe test spot was successful and she decided to sign up with Seal SmartOn 03/19/ [redacted] Called and said that she was concerned about having the process completed, due to white hazing that she was seeing on her deck from the test spotWe explained to her that the white hazing is from the cleaner and would come off during the cleaning process, when we came outShe said that wasn't sure when she wanted us out, but didn't want this white hazing on her woodWe explained that it would naturally go away within to days, if we didn't wash itWe tried to set up a time to come out and wash and seal her deck as promised, but she refused and said that she wanted her money backWe explained that we had done nothing wrong in this process and we have a day cancelation policyOn 05/31/ [redacted] disputed the credit card charges for the deposit that she had put downOn 06/20/the credit card company sided in our favor after reviewing all the factsWe have tried to accommodate [redacted] in this matter and explained to her that the cleaning solution would come up after our team rinsed it offShe had stated that she went out to one of our customers decks and evaluated it and it was "white, weathered, parched, rough and dry." This is what happens when a deck has not been cleaned and the sun bleaches the elements onto the deckWe are a sealing company and what we do is permanently seal hard wood decksThis protects from rotting, but not from getting dirty from the elements or sun bleachingThese things are basic maintenance that is the customers responsibility Initial Consumer Rebuttal / [redacted] (3000, 7, 2016/07/04) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) How can Seal Smart, with any honesty or integrity take my $1,All they did was give me a "free" estimate and a test spot, which THEY say was successful, yet it was notThe salesman poured an amount of clear liquid on the wood and it appeared wet and shinyHe said that it needed time to dry and the wood should be back to almost the original color of the wood, once it driedI told him that I would contact him once it dried and I could see the resultsHe showed me the Seal Smart pictures with beautiful results, and he said that he would then have to come back for me to sign a contract and he had appointments in TN and GeorgiaHe assured me all was safe and goodI entered into the contract believing what the salesman said and seeing the Seal Smart picturesThis turned out to not be the caseIf the spot was satisfactory, like Seal Smart claims, I would of had no reason to be calling on the of March because of my concernsMy concern was the test spot was still wet looking and the wood color was no where to be seenThe salesman told me it just still needed more time to dry especially with the humidity, which I again gave him the benefit of the doubtAfter about a week the spot went from wet to white, like bird droppingsI again contacted the salesman and said I wanted to cancel because of this lookHe said that he did not understand and I needed to wet the spot with water for days in a row, and that should wash off the clear liquid turned whiteI did as instructed, yet nothing has changedI sent him a picture of this test spotAgain, looking at Seal Smart advertisement and their color pictures, at no time have I seen this color on my wood after the test spot applicationIf everything was as Seal Smart claims, I would of had my deck completed by them by nowI deserve my money back and they should have the integrity, honesty and good reputation to refund itHow can days to cancel be honest when I was waiting for the spot to dry for longer than thatThey are out nothing because they have not done any work at my home, yet I put down 50% in good faithTheir good reputation and future jobs should be worth more than $1, Final Business Response / [redacted] (4000, 11, 2016/07/13) */ [redacted] is concerned with the test spot that we did, because of the white hazing that was left afterwardWe have explained on numerous occasions to [redacted] that the detergent that we use when doing a test spot, [redacted] leave a white hazing until we power wash and rinse it offOur sales team unfortunately does not have the capability to clean and rinse the test spot when they are out thereWe explain this to each and every customerThe pictures that [redacted] is referring to, is the "final process" which she has not given us the opportunity to doBasing anything on the initial process and saying "this isn't what I expected" isn't a reasonable expectationThis would be no different than having a contractor come out to build a house and after the first day of rutting up the property from caring on supplies, the customer saying "this looks nothing like what I was promised." We are willing to do the job and give her the finished product that she originally requested Final Consumer Response / [redacted] (4200, 13, 2016/07/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) This is NOT true as Seal Smart has never mentioned this until now, that the test spot [redacted] remain "...until we power wash and rinse it off." This is the first time that I have ever heard thisThe sales rep never said that either and I have not found it in their Statement of Understanding...WoodWhat good is a test spot unless it shows you what you can actually expect? I had plenty of water that could of been used at the time of demonstration, if he needed itAgain, this detergent remaining until power washing off business was not mentioned until nowI do not know if it is detergent residue or some chemical remaining, ingrained in the wood This does not make sense, as it have been wet numerous timesIn their own Statement of Understanding...Wood, in regards to white haze it states "given time (approxdays) it [redacted] subside." It has been almost days and it is still thereIf their sales force cannot give you an accurate idea of what you can reasonably expect, they should tell you thatUnder Seal Smart's direction, I washed off this spot with my hose over days in a rowWe have also had lots of rain that has wet this area since the middle of March, Comparing this event to a contractor building a house is ridiculous Based on the discrepancy on what I was told, what I can read in their paperwork, and what I can see, I do not want this applied to my woodI want a full refund of my $1,depositNo work has been done at my homeHow can this company, Seal Smart, in all honesty and integrity charge me $1,They have done no services at my home except send a salesman to give me a "free" estimate and a test spot that they now say was not a true and accurate description of what I could expectIf the salesman "...does not have the capacity to clean and rinse the test spot when they are out there." Why do they do that demo at all? In no way was the inadequacy mentionedThat could of easily been alleviated at my home right on the spotThis valuable information was never mentioned prior to nowIf Seal Smart's agents need additional training or a more accurate demo, Seal Smart needs to comply because their integrity is at stakeI deserve a full refund, as this product is not what I desire or presented to me, with no work completed by Seal Smart machinery or workmen

Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 9, 2016/10/03) */ [redacted] and [redacted] Signed up with Seal Smart on 09/03/According to notes in their file, the [redacted] 's called in the Spring of The [redacted] 's were upset that their deck was dirty and they also had questions about staining their deckWe advised them that for cosmetic purposes, they could clean it once to twice a yearThis would not be for the integrity of the wood, but to keep it cleaned, that's what we recommendThen we recommended to them a water based stain, if they wanted to stain their deckWe explained that if they used an oil based stain, this would not adhere to the deck, because of our sealant, causing the stain to bubble upSo at no point, did we recommend a water based sealant to the [redacted] 'sI also might add, that I sincerely hope that they have not used any other types of sealantThis could cause an adverse reaction to our sealantOn 05/24/I got a call from [redacted] , stating that she had wood rot and needed to start a warranty claimShe gave me the dimensions and asked how are warranty process worksI explained that once we determine that their is definite rot, we price the wood and send a customer a check for that amountWhile on the phone with [redacted] , I said if all the wood is indeed rotted, we would issue a check for around $I asked [redacted] to send me some pictures so I could start the warranty claim [redacted] sent me several pictures to evaluateIt was easy to determine that only a couple of the boards had actual rot and the other boards were just needing to be cleanedSo based on the dimensions that she gave me on the boards in question, we sent her a check for the replacement of those boards in the amount of $and told her that after they are installed we [redacted] come seal themWe stand behind our warranty and our product, but sometimes educating the customer on the difference between rot and cosmetic issues, is neededWe did find a couple of boards that showed rot and we took care of these issues per our warranty Initial Consumer Rebuttal / [redacted] (3000, 11, 2016/10/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) As you can see from Seal-Smart's response, we contacted them within months of purchase because the product was not performing as advertised or as presented by the salesmanTheir advertisements, the video they show at the local Home Shows, and the salesman's presentation shows their process removing years of dirt from a wooden surface and replacing it with a sealer along with the claim "never seal your deck again" Yes, we were disappointed the first Spring after purchase because our deck had unsightly dirt that would not wash off with a garden hose as indicated by the companyYes, we were told we could stain our deck, however, we were also told the product would allow us to keep the natural wood lookWe do not want a stained deck No, I was not told about water-based stainsAs you can see in the company's response, "So at no point, did we recommend a water based sealant to the [redacted] 's"I was told I could use [redacted] I do not know if Thompsons is water basedWhen I explained that the reason we purchased their product was to prevent us having to pressure wash and apply [redacted] to our deck twice a year, the company stated while they believe a deck should come clean with a garden hose, some customers may have to use a deck wash One other place the company's response is in error is that he was looking at my pictures when we spoke about a warranty settlementContrary to what he may have thought, I do know the difference between cosmetic and rot issues with the wood Ours investment in this product was at a cost just under $The company sent a check for $This is only enough to replace the wood and not enough to have the deck repairedThis is a huge project as railing must be removed in order to replace the rotten wood and then the railing [redacted] have to be reinstalled It is our understanding of the warranty that the company [redacted] send a crew to apply their product to the new woodI sincerely hope, when that time comes, the company [redacted] not avoid my phone call as has been the practice during this warranty claim Resolution? We prefer a refund because, clearly, we did not get the product as advertisedYet, our desire is to prevent other people from being deceived by this company's unscrupulous advertising and sales presentations Surely, the company can create advertising that is not deceitfulAdvertising that [redacted] allow them to sell their product based on its merits and not on claims Final Business Response / [redacted] (4000, 17, 2016/10/21) */ We [redacted] be more than happy to pay the remaining $to replace the wood that is needed to repair the [redacted] 's deck and as soon as the new wood is in place we [redacted] seal itThe [redacted] 's signed a statement of understanding, which they have acknowledged, that periodic cleaning is required if they want to maintain wood toneAppearance is not something that we warrantyThe [redacted] 's deck is permanently sealedIt does require periodic cleaning if it is to not look dirty, just as you would have to for carpet in your home Final Consumer Response / [redacted] (4200, 20, 2016/10/24) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) We offer the following resolution to this matterThe company [redacted] reimburse us the remaining $so that we can complete the repairs on our deckBecause this section of our deck where the wood rot occurred does not repel water and/or dry as quickly as the other areas of our deck, we have reason to believe adequate sealer was not applied to this sectionThe company [redacted] come to our residence and perform their sealing process on the 25' X 20' section of our deck, and not just on the boards that have been replacedWe [redacted] notify the company when all wood has been replaced and work out a reasonable time for the work to be completedWe contend, however, that their advertising is deceitful and their salesmen are incentivized by commission

Well, he got into a huff and told his partner, come on let's get out of here and they promptly roared out of the driveway, not having done anything We called the company again and another crew came out and through their over use of the pressure when they pressure washed, they caused most of the wood to have very fine splinters and the wood was still white and has cracked as I showed you in the pictures I sent to youWe called the Seal Smart office in Nashville and they said that they would be back in the springI sent them pictures and they never showed or calledWe contacted the salesman who lives in our town and he never had the common decency to return our calls Seal Smart claims that the sun will bleach the wood but the deck only gets about two hours of sun each dayThey say that they guarantee the integrity of the woodThey lie! They claim that they explained to me that the sun can and will bleach the woodI understand that but I'm talking of the white from too much chemical used on the wood and which washed off when the next crew cameThis time they didn't use as much chemical and I didn't get as much stuff that made the wood white but then it started crackingI never said anything about the wood rotting and they never said anything like thatAs a matter of fact they never came out to explain anything! They lie through their teeth! As far as sealer, after a rain you can plainly see that the wood is soaked with water and we have green mold growing in the woodThat is definite proof that the wood is not sealed The deck is just over a year old and these clowns destroyed it and sold the Revdex.com a song and a dance and you believed them! I realize that the pictures I sent don't clearly show the damageYou'd have to see it for yourself to see what they didThis company should be put out of businessThey don't honor their guarantee, their workmanship is shoddy, some of their workmen are nasty when asked a question and they lie through their teeth! I am amazed that the Revdex.com would just wave it off as if the property owner is lyingThis company is not a member of the Revdex.com and because of all the complaints they've received, they cannot become a memberI have always had great respect for the Revdex.com but after conversing with you in Springfield, I'm beginning to have my doubts Sincerely, [redacted] Final Business Response / [redacted] (4000, 13, 2016/08/10) */ Mr [redacted] has shown concern on a couple of different issuesHe has stated that his wood has some splintering and is whiteThis is very unfortunate, but can and will happen with pre-treated lumberHere's what's going onTreated lumber is injected with chemicals that are mixed with waterYears ago, some of the treated lumber I worked with was so saturated with the chemical brew that when you'd drive a nail into it, this liquid concoction would squirt out alongside the nail shaft as you drove the nailWhen the sun bakes this moisture out of the lumber, it creates significant tension stress within the wood fibersTension is the force that happens when you try to stretch or bend somethingAs the sun cooks out the water, the lumber shrinksThis shrinkage usually causes tiny checking cracks to formThese are often about the width of a piece of paper and perhaps only an eighth of an inch long Pre-Treated wood will unfortunately crack, due to high moisture levelsAll wood will be susceptible to the "white" that Mr [redacted] is referring to Mr [redacted] stated that the "white" came off when we came out and cleaned it with our power washerThe "white" on the boards are a result of the elements that have been baked on by the sunThis is why it was able to be washed offIf this was a chemical stain, it would not come outThis brings me to Mr [redacted] 's next concernThe very fine splintering that [redacted] refers to, is a natural response from wood, anytime the wood has been cleaned with a power washerThis will cause a "fuzzing" to occurThis is where tiny particles will stand on the woodThis will go away over timeWe never like it when we have a customer that is upset, however our sealant guarantees one thing and that is the integrity of the woodSo in recap, Mr [redacted] will eliminate the white from his boards with an annual cleaningThe cracking unfortunately is caused by the pre-treated lumber drying out and this cannot be reversedThe fuzzing should go away overtime, but they can do a light sandingAll of these issues, are not rotting issues

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:I was not satisfied at all. I told them that I would not give a good referral if asked. It does not look right at all. I only paid to avoid further hassle. Sincerely, [redacted]

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/08/25) */
We have scheduled to return to customers location on Thursday August to look into the rough edges that seems to be the issue as well as address above mentioned items

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
Nowhere in the Seal-Smart product brochure that I was given does it specify that Top Coat Sealant is only for masonry and brick and at no time was this explained to be by the sales person, *** ***The Seal-Smart Statement of Understanding that I was asked to sign is titled "Statement of Understanding - Concrete." The last item listed on this Statement of Understanding - Concrete is "Seal-Smart Top Coat Sealant." It is described as "creates an invisible barrier on concrete, brick, masonry and stone structures that inhibits the penetration of acids, oils, and other harmful substancesSeal-Smart top coat leaves the surface with the same texture and appearance as before being coated." Note that the word "concrete" is included in this descriptionI was asked to initial next to the title "Seal-Smart Top Coat Sealant" and the accompanying description as notedPlease see attached document which the company did not provide to you*** ***, Corporate Office Manager, indicated in her response to the Revdex.com that "He (customer) has misunderstood the process at some point." Since Top Coat Sealant is included in the "Statement of Understanding - Concrete" and I was asked to initial next to "Top Coat Sealant" with its description that includes "concrete", I believe that I do understand what I was to receiveYou will note that in the response from the sales person, *** ***, to *** ***, Corporate Office Manager, Mr*** states, ""I use to mark it off the statement of understanding since we were not sellingThen the home office instructions were to not mark off anythingAbout a year ago I had a customer call me for the same thingAfter I explained it, he asked then why do we make them sign it?" If the home office instructions were to not mark off anything, it would seem reasonable for the customer to believe that the Top Coat Sealant is includedAnd the testimony from the sales person makes it clear that this was confusing to at least one other customerI left two voice mail messages for Mr*** after the applicationIn these two messages I indicated that I had a simple question regarding the application process and asked him to return my callHe did not return either callI then called the company and asked to speak to someone who would have knowledge of the application processI was directed to a person who I believe was identified as the Director of Operations or Operations Manager. Unfortunately, I did not get his nameI asked if the Top Coat Sealant was applied at the same time as the Concrete Sealant or if it was a separate applicationHe stated that his job was to basically schedule the work and he did not have an answer to this questionHe said he would find out the answer and call me backHe never called backFinally, I contacted Jordan Hansel, the Project Manager who was one of the two workers who performed the application, and asked him the same questionHe said the Top Coat Sealant is a separate application that is ***e several days after the first sealant applicationHe also said that he did not see Top Coat Sealant included in the work order that he received but that he would check on it and call me backAfter not receiving a response for several days, I called him again and left a voice mail message reminding him of his promise to call backHe did not respondAfter several more days I left him another voice mail messageStill no responseAfter receiving no response to my question from three separate company employees, and after carefully re-reading the Statement of Understanding, I was left to conclude that, at best, Seal-Smart cares little about customer satisfactionIt is my belief, from the lack of response to me directly, that company employees may even be encouraged not to respond to customer concerns or complaintsIt is this belief that prompted me to file my complaint with the Revdex.com.Sincerely,
*** ***

We would like to thank you for contacting us regarding our customer, Ms*** ***. Ms*** requested to cancel her contract after the day right to cancel had expired. Our office had some additional review and approvals to go through to get a cancel with a refund approved due to it
being past the day cancel period. We were able to get this approved and refunded her deposit on 2/16/2018.If there is anything else I can assist with please feel free to contact us

It amazes me that they can’t find our file after I’ve called as many times as I have

Unfortunately, Mr*** has a complete misunderstanding of the situation. Seal Smart was not contracted to do top coat for him. He did not purchase top coat. It appears he contacted different individuals within our company and asked questions about top coat. It is true that it is applied the next day after sealant due to the fact that the brick/stone must be dry. It is true that our Statement of Understanding contains a statement in regards to Top Coat because some customers to purchase it. If Mr*** has any kind of documentation that shows he purchased top coat for his concrete we would be happy to apply it. He will have to understand and accept that top coat changes the appearance of concrete and he may not be happy with the results, because the original sales person that was at the property did not test or demonstrate our top coat product. We sincerely apologize that he has misunderstood the situation. Sincerely, *** ***Corporate Office Manager***.***@gmail.com
