Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

I signed an agreement with this company through a local credit processing company. The processing company made a number of promises that were never kept. Including promising that their equipment was far superior to any other on the market. After 2 horrific months of trying to set up my employees with credit card scanning features we finally had to switch back to our old supplier. We never had scanning equipment that worked after numerous replacements.
When I dropped the service I tried to get out from the contract with Northern Leasing and was basically told to live with it as I was not getting out of the contract. I had my attorney look at it and about the only good thing this company does is write iron clad contracts so for the balance of the contract I pay a monthly fee to this company and get nothing in return. I sent back the equipment just to get out of having to pay for insurance. DO NOT USE THEM if you value your business

I closed my account with [redacted] Leasing on May *, 2015. I called to tell them of this closing and couldn't get through to them on the phone. I was put on hold for endless minutes, once I was able to tell them of my account closing. I wrote them a letter, but it was returned. I didn't have a contract with them anymore so blocked my bank account access to them. They contacted me by phone when they couldn't get any payment. I explained that I couldn't get through to talk with their customer service, and was told I should have kept trying! I returned their equipment, but now I keep getting billed by mail. I tell them they won't get any more money from me!

Review: Began trying to terminate equipment (outdoor business sign) with Northern Leasing on 6/*/2015. Left countless messages on Customer Service line, sent several emails spoke with Sales Representative Richard H[redacted] (he gave me another phone number to call and stated that the company would not want the sign returned to DT Manhattan and that they would resolve the contract.) All with no response. Received one phone message on 6/**/15 from April. Called the originator/manufacturer of the sign and received a fax number. Faxed a request for call back on July **. Spoke with Ms. W[redacted] Stated that they would not release me from the lease until continued payments were made. We paid over $9200 on a $5800 lease. I refused to pay. She told me I would I have to fax again and ask to speak to Ms. A[redacted]. I did so on 7/**/15 and 7/**/15. Did not receive call back. Continued to receive requests for payment. Called once a month and left messages. No call backs. Currently receiving demands to pay and threats of civil suit.Desired Settlement: Removal of charge off from credit AND refund of overpayment on lease.

To Whom It May Concern:

Please consider this Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. (“NLSI”) formal response to the above-referenced complaint.

As Lessee’s lease agreement (the “Agreement”) involves the lease of a sign from Signtronix, Lessee must execute a one-time balloon payment to purchase the sign to effectively terminate the Agreement at the end of its minimum term. The purchase price is previously determined in Lessee’s contract with Signtronix.

As such, if the buyout was not executed, Lessee’s Agreement matures into a month-to-month status until Lessee pays such buyout.

As of May **, 2016, the above-referenced lease agreement (the “Agreement”) has been terminated. Accordingly, Lessee and Complainant (as Personal Guarantor) have been released from any and all obligations thereunder. There is no refund due to Complainant.

An official Release Notice letter was also mailed directly to Lessee (along with contact information for any further assistance).

While we trust that this information should bring this matter to a close, please contact me at ###-###-#### for any further assistance.

Review: MBF leased us two equipments worth $400 all together for $127/month for 48 months. We have already paid over $1270. I have closed my business and they are asking for $4500 more and return the equipment.Desired Settlement: Take the equipment back without charging me anymore money because I already paid more than double the price that the equipments are worth.

Response:

Dear [redacted]:

Please consider this our formal response to above-referenced complaint. As Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. ("Northern") services the lease agreement originated by MBF, please accept our reply on their behalf.

Please note Azura Leasing (Azura) has assigned the agreement to MBF. MBF therefore has all the rights afforded Azura as original Lessor but none of its obligations under the lease pursuant to Section 8 titled Assignment of the lease agreement.

On December **, 2012, Lessee entered into a 48-month non-cancelable lease agreement. According to the lease agreement, Lessee has agreed to a repayment schedule which includes a base monthly payment of

$110.00 plus sales tax and insurance non-compliance fee. The Schedule of Lease Payments section of the agreement outlines total payments due from Lessee to MBF.

By signing under the Lessee Acceptance portion of the agreement, Lessee aclmowledges reading the terms and conditions of the contract and that they agree to be bound by them.

As of today, the Lessee has made 12 payments. The account is cun-ent and in good standing with our office, as of today.

To effectively terminate the lease agreement, complainant would have to exercise one of the buyout options as outlined on the lease agreement.

Additionally, enclosed please find a copy of the signed Delivery and Acceptance Receipt in which the Lessee acknowledged receiving leased equipment.

Very truly yours,

We lease our credit card equipment from Northern Leasing. We have leased it for 4 years and 3 months for $40 base fee/month ($49.95 with all fees and taxes). Our original term agreement is for 48 months, so our lease is now a monthly lease. We have paid at a minimum $2040 for this terminal. Our terminal quit working and I decided to purchase a new one from a different company for $145. I called Northern Leasing and asked them how I could send this terminal back and was told that our data processing company probably quit processing our cards because our terminal will be outdated as of January 1st because of new security laws mandated by the Federal Government. I then called our data processing company and they assured me that they did not shut the processing off - our terminal is broken. I called Northern Leasing back and they said that since our terminal is not in working condition, then I would need to pay an additional $219 for this terminal. This terminal will not be compliant in less than a month. I do not feel that I should have to pay more for a terminal when I have already paid over $2000 for it and it will not be usable by anyone else. Additionally, when I looked over our agreement with Northern Leasing, it says we have "Lifetime Warranty, Free Supplies, Free 18-month upgrades". To me, I think "Lifetime Warranty" means that their machine should work and I should not have to pay additionally when it doesn't work. I am very unhappy with their policies and I was not impressed with their customer service. I will definitely steer people away from doing any business with this company.

Northern Leasing keeps sending me bills even though I contacted them back in Oct. 2014 to let them know I no longer need there machine. It was not working properly. After numerous times of trying to contact them about problems, with no response, we switched to the square. I even wrote them a letter, sent to NY address as well as billing address. There was no response. We could call, reach operator of some kind, explain our problem and they would switch us to someone else. After being put on hold for up to 30 minutes, we would be disconnected. At one time, I did talk to someone in June 2015, we said we needed to return the machine that doesn't work properly, and they proceed to say we broke the machine, and that we need to pay for it as well as pay for canceling service. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS BUSINESS!

Review: We began contacting the company in April 2013 requesting the cancellation procedure of our contract that was ending in July 2013. We did not want to renew our contract, therefore we wanted the correct cancellation or non-renewal procedure. No one has contacted us. We have tried to telephone only to be transferred to multiple departments. It seems no matter who we talk to - it isn't the right department. I left a message as requested by the automated system (4/**/13, 5/**/13, 6/**/13 & 7/**/13) but never received a response. I began emailing the end of July and received a response August * that they finally found our lease agreement (I gave them the lease agreement number in my email) and stated they would forward it to the correct department with a statement that someone would contact me within 24-48 hours. No one called. I had requested in my phone messages and emails for the company to cease debiting our bank account after July - when our contract ended. They debited our account in August - when the contract was officially over. When I had not heard from anyone by August *, I resent an updated email - requesting contact and resent again today (August **). It is now August ** and I still have not heard from anyone nor have they refunded the money back into our account.Desired Settlement: Refund the $44.88 back into our account along with written acknowledgement that our contract has been cancelled.

Response:

Dear [redacted]:

This is in reply to above-referenced complaint filed with your office on August **, 2013 against Northern Leasing Systems, Inc. (NLSI).

To effectively terminate the contract, the Lessee has following options:

1. Provide NLSI with a 30-day notification of intent to terminate and return equipment to us:

2. Purchase the equipment at its estimated fair-market-value, which is $226.03 NLSI

Per our records, information on proper termination has been provided to a representative of the business on April **, 2013.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I leased an electronic sign with a 36 month contract, with a buyout option at the end for $315.10 plus sales tax. The 36 months ended in December 2013. I never received a notice regarding the end of my lease and the buyout and to be honest I didn't realize the 36 months had past until I was doing my income tax return. I stopped payment on the March draft and they contacted me, saying I have to pay it plus the buyout or they will take legal action. Now they say my lease is non-cancelable. Below is the offer I made to them to settle the matter, which I believe is a fair and reasonable request....

March **, 2014

Northern Leasing Systems, Inc.[redacted]

Regarding Lease #

My lease term was for 36 months, which ended in December 2013 with the option to buy at fair market price of $315.10 plus tax. Other companies I have leased from have sent notices or called before the end of the lease to see if I wanted to keep the item or send it back. I did not receive a notice from your company, if I had I would have initiated the buyout. You received two additional payments of $186.30 in January and February of this year which total $372.60, my buyout price with tax is $341.10. You have received $31.50 more than you would have if I had been given the opportunity to exercise my buyout option. My request is that you end my lease as of December 2013 and apply the two payments in 2014 as payments on the buyout option and closing my account. I do not believe that is an unreasonable request.

Sincerely,

Any help you can give me in resolving this matter will be greatly appreciated.Desired Settlement: I would like them to cancel the lease effective December 2013 and use the payments they took from my bank account in January and February 2014 as payment for the buyout.

Response:

In reference to complaint ID [redacted], Northern Leasing contacted me and we were able to come to an agreement on March **, 2014, so this complaint has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Scam artist trying to collect after I've paid more than what was agreed. It's been years and I receive threatening mail and phone calls. Each time I prove I've paid and the mistake is on them, I ask for a letter or something verifying they acknowledge I've paid and never receive anything. I can't believe they're still around and still have employees, If I knew the company I worked for was a scam I'd be gone.

Review: I'm filing this on behalf of my wife [redacted]. She is the business owner. My involvement is because of her limited English language abilities: It's a version of a report I filed on ripoffreport.com, with minor changes in verbiage, while maintaining the accuracy of all events: In August 2009, my wife [redacted] was approached by a [redacted] of [redacted] Management Group in Tucson, AZ. My wife runs a small business called I Love Nutricion, a health and nutrition club, also in Tucson. [redacted] convinced my wife to sign up for credit card processing services, claiming it would help her business by allowing her to sell items to people who didn't have cash. She was told the contract only lasted for one year and could be cancelled at any time. I was working in Iraq at the time and wasn't present to see the contract. When I did come home and reviewed it, I discovered much to my dismay it was a FOUR year contract with Lease Finance Group, a third party company [redacted] had told her nothing about. That is misrepresentation and fraud. The lease was worded as non-cancellable, with payments of 81.97 a month for 48 months. The retail value of the machine she was given was barely $800. Incredible. It will be noted here the lease is all in English. My wife only speaks and reads Spanish. [redacted] assured her all was in order. Well, needless to say, it was trouble from the get-go. Since her business location had no telephone landlines, she was being billed monthly by [redacted] Management Group for the machine's transactions and airtime, plus she was being billed separately by Lease Finance Group for the monthly machine lease. She had continuous problems with the machine. It would not keep a charge, it would fail on transactions, or bill incorrectly. [redacted] offered to help a couple of times, but then became hostile towards her, implying she was too stupid to know how to use the machine. After a time, he replaced her original machine with a Nurit 8020 machine. It worked well for a month or two, but then began to have problems as well. We must have purchased half a dozen ac adaptors for the machine from [redacted], all of which failed shortly after receipt. The machine would also drop transactions, not connect, etc. When my wife contacted [redacted] about this second machine's problems, he refused to help and would not return her calls. She was very upset about paying for a useless piece of merchandise, and was even more upset when learning of the lease she was deceived into signing. When we contacted Lease Finance Group to discuss this issue, they were not sympathetic - not at all. Lease Finance Group (LFG) did not care what she was falsely told by [redacted], they didn't care that she wasn't able to read the contract, they only wanted their money. So, she determined to pay out the lease and return the equipment when done. This was done. Now, about the two agreements; one from [redacted] for maintenance/service/airtime, and one from LFG for the equipment rental. [redacted]'s was for three years, ending in late 2012, and LFG's was due to expire in August 2013. Thanks to [redacted]'s lies, my wife had thought there would be only one agreement, and found there were two. While that was a challenge, we discussed the situation, and decided to pay them both out. Her business does not generate the type of income needed for legal battles, which is something companies like [redacted] and LFG take distinct advantage of. They wave legal action in a small business owner's face, and the owner usually has no recourse but to pay up. As much as it galled her, she decided to pay them out. [redacted] wanted to charge a $495 early cancellation fee. After numerous emails between [redacted]'s supervisor at [redacted], a Ms. [redacted], we were was able to get the [redacted] Management Group contract finished early, in the August 2011 time frame. We now had one contract to deal with. Ironically, as it turned out, my wife had little to no use for the machine. She initially had many clients with debit and/or credit cards, but shortly afterward and due to the many problems she had with both machines, gradually all of her customers were paying cash. Additionally, the parent company through which she operates her club, Herbalife, came out with rules concerning signage on the front of their nutrition clubs, which prohibited displaying, among other things, credit card logos on the windows of the establishments. Thus, her need for the machine was no longer justified. She was unhappy at having to pay for a nonfunctional machine month after month while it sat unused in our home, but a contract is a contract, no matter how deceptively and disingenuously it was contrived. [redacted] had virtually disappeared by this time, as a host of other Latino businesses in Tucson lodged complaints against him for the same deceptive, dishonest business practices done with my wife's business. At the one year point prior to expiration (Aug 2012), I called LFG to verify it would expire on time and that there would be no issues. They told me, yes, it would automatically terminate as long as the equipment was returned. If the equipment wasn't returned, we'd have to pay a buyout consisting of an adjusted price of the equipment. No problem. There was one small hitch in the payment of the contract. My wife had to close the banking account LFG was billing due to another credit card processor trying to bill her. This occurred in the summer of 2011. There were some missed payments to LFG as a result of the bank account closure. We corresponded with an [redacted] at LFG, and got it straight. I used my Discover card to pay the two catchup payments so the lease would terminate as scheduled, as well as all the remaining payments. In June 2013 I contacted LFG again to verify that the contract would end upon receipt of the equipment. When I mentioned the name and model number of the equipment - Nurit 8020 - they at first said, that's not the original equipment leased out, but then said, ah, okay, no problem, we see where it was changed out early in the lease period, send us what you have and you'll be fine. I didn't get the name of that person. In retrospect, I should have. She gave me the address of [redacted]. Good deal. In August I sent the equipment back with return receipt mail to make sure it got there. In mid-August I followed up on it. I was told they received the equipment a couple of days late, and would assess a final payment of 84.21 to terminate the lease. I agreed to that. At that time I thought, we're done with this, finally. Well, I was mistaken. In September my wife began to receive regular phone calls from a [redacted] Driver of LFG, insisting she continue to pay on the lease as the equipment returned was not what was issued in 2009. Since my wife speaks very little English, she asked for a Spanish speaking rep. They didn't give her one, and continued to harass and harangue her with calls, mainly in the early morning hours. I wonder if they realize AZ is three hours behind them? I was in Afghanistan at this time. My wife told me of these calls and gave me [redacted]'s contact info. I called, and had a fairly congenial chat with [redacted]. He initially said nothing was ever received, and that my wife owed some two months of lease payments. I tried to explain my correspondence and machine return, but he would step over my words and say nothing was ever received, or the address I gave wasn't valid, etc. Then he said, the warehouse people don't care what comes in, they don't account for it. I was put on hold multiple times while he checked my story out. Finally, he admitted they received a machine, but it wasn't the right machine. He offered to renew the lease and send a new machine out, or charge me $583 as a buyout. I indicated that of the two choices, my wife would lean toward a buyout, but he was pushing the new lease angle. He pushed it very hard. He claimed it would earn her tons of money and make her business explode with growth. When I told him all of my wife's customers pay cash, it was like talking to a wall. He went on and on - full salesman mode - about the wonders of a new machine, only $49.99 a month for four more years, excellent support, just say the word. I had already told him my wife was not interested in continuing any more agreements, she just wanted out of this one. I gave him a complete accounting about [redacted], the lies, the slick talk, everything. [redacted] admitted there were unscrupulous agents out there, but that wasn't LFG's problem, she signed, she's liable. I did not like this cavalier attitude, but I maintained my civility. We chatted a bit about Afghanistan and I told him I would consult with my wife. This was in early October. I asked my wife what she wanted. She said no more, I don't want to pay anything more, we're done, nobody told me I had to turn in the machine I was originally given, if LFG wants that machine back, they can contact [redacted] Management Group to get it as it was an [redacted] Management Group employee - [redacted] - that changed it out. I was home on vacation in mid to late October. LFG continued to call. The person who called was asking for someone in the business accounting department. When my wife replied she only spoke Spanish, the person disregarded her and repeated the request for someone in the accounting department, then hung up. I returned to Afghanistan at the end of October. I was predisposed to just pay the buyout and be done, but my wife said,no, they will just take your money and later make up some technicality to continue to try and get money out of us. This week another letter from LFG came, threatening legal action and reporting to a collection agent if the lease went into default. My wife has had it. I was prepared to pay the buyout for her just for some peace of mind, but why? We've paid mountains of money for that machine, way more than it was worth. The prevailing attitude among LFG personnel is one of combativeness and a defensive stance against the public, an us vs them mentality. They're out to make money and don't care what they do to get it. They claim innocence on agents in the street hooking people into these ruinous contracts, that they're only the innocent financiers behind scenes, but I don't buy it. If that were the case, they'd express shock and outrage over the crookedness being played out on the street. However, I didn't feel that. What I felt was an atmosphere of aggressive venality as in, too bad, we can't do anything about that, we pride ourselves in winning judgements brought against us and will continue to forge ahead, regardless of people's lives and credit histories being damaged. I'm reminded of the crooked health insurance company Great Benefit in [redacted]'s "The Rainmaker" In the story, Great Benefit unilaterally denied all health claims for a year, just to see how much they could rake in. I see LFG doing that with these leases, denying they were illegally obtained, just to see how much money they can rake in. They are engaging in illicit business tactics, intimidating small businesses into complying with their overpriced leases. The staggering amount of reports here and on the ripoffreport website attest to that, as well as the many law firms advertising help with clients ensnared in LFG's leases. If LFG was as honest as they claim, then why would there be a bevy of legal professionals specializing in cases against LFG?Desired Settlement: My wife has paid 48x81.97 for the leasing of a machine that rarely if ever worked. That's almost $4K. That's enough. She returned the equipment she had. She was never told she had to return the same identical machine. I see this machine disparity issue as a tactic for LFG to try and keep the door open on a lease unfairly, and to try and extort additional money out of her. I have little faith that they would leave her alone even after accepting a buyout, were it to come to that. They want to keep their hooks into people as long as humanly possible. I've read a multitude of documented authentic stories about this company, and something else they do is try and pursue action on closed leases with excuses of, we never received final payment, no received equipment, etc. The return address I was given for the equipment was the 13th Floor, whereas the business address is the 14th Floor. Is the 13th floor their warehouse location, or was that a deliberate attempt to steer us wrong on return of the equipment? Bottom line - She wants them to take what they have, terminate the lease effective August 2013, stop calling her at all hours, and drop the issue. This situation is causing me extreme anguish, and I cannot afford to be distracted like that while living and working in a hostile war zone. Thank you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

complete scammers!!! watch out !! used the crooks for over ten years terminated my lease and returned the equipment and was told no more charges would be debited to my account however when checking my bank statement there was a $200 charge!!! four times what my monthly leasing agreement was . Tried to get this resolve with no luck !! thank god we have a great bank with good fraud protection cause that what you will need when dealing with these people

My business closed in the latter part of 2014. During the process of the business closure, I worked with the local contractor who signed me up with Northern Leasing. He said that he would take care of sending the credit card machine back and canceling the lease. I was later informed that it was not possible to cancel the lease even though I no longer had the machine or was in business. Northern Leasing has been harassing me with threats of legal action and credit bureau reports. I believe this company has acted in bad faith and will caution anyone to not do business with them. I will not be sending them any money.

I have made numerous attempts to call this company for the past year and their phone system seems to never work. I always get "cut off" when I state that I have proof that my services were cancels over a year ago. They took $538.20 since I cancelled my services with them. COMPLETE SCAM!!!!

Northern leasing systems inc has been harassing me for over a year now about some pin pads that they claim were not returned to them after the company I used to work for stopped using them. I had nothing to do with the contracts at all let alone be the one to talk to about any pin pads that they claim to have not received. Over the last year or so they have verbally threatened me and called over 10 dozen times. I have explained to them many many times that I have no affiliation to my precious employer and I don't know why they have my name as a reference. I eventually stopped answering their calls from the 20 different phone numbers they have. I relieved a letter in the mail saying they filed paperwork in New York against me. This company has been harassing me for far too long and is now filing lawsuits against me for nothing I had or have connections to. I don't understand how this is even legal.

Horrible customer service!!! I cancelled my merchant services through the third party company that they are affiliated with. I returned the device as I was told and I was still getting charged the monthly leasing fee for the equipment. When I called to inquire about why I was still being charged the guy on the line was extremely rude and kept on saying that I was using a third party company and went on and on in a screaming manner. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he said he was the "superior" in the office. He went on giving examples and demanding that I repeat what he just said. I told him that I just wanted to cancel and he told me that I was disrespecting him by not repeating what he was telling me. Dude, I just wanted to terminate the service I had not been using and being charged for the last three months!!

Review: The company setup this contract and told me to sign it saying everything would be okay ,,salesman and rep. from company. so I did it ..Now im fighting a losing battle trying to get this situation fix between me and the merchant and the leasing company,,both services are affliated with each other its like a brother sister company..I just want to cancel complete contract and I will find Another merchant to handle my processing please..thanks

Everything is bad with this company. The equipment that I leased was out of date compared to what was available at the time. That was a minor complaint. The worst thing about the company was that you can never talk to anyone from there company in any way. The phone calls are dropped after holding for an hour at times. You are sometimes sent to voicemail randomly and the voicemail inboxes are always full, that was 100% of the time. When you do get to talk to someone, you are cut off by rude employees saying that everything they do wrong is covered by the terms in lease. It was the most difficult company that I have interacted with in 17 years of business. They continued to charge me after my lease was over, and that took months to get some of the money back. This business knows how to steal your money. Beware.

I cannot believe a company like this is still in business - what they are doing HAS to be illegal! It's absolutely disgusting that they are continuously allowed to prey on unsuspecting businesses. Who wouldn't want to save money on merchant fees? That's where they get ya!

Appalling and rude customer service!

We have been bombarded by several invoices from Northern Leasing ("NL"). These invoices appear to relate to the leasing of certain credit card processing equipment (the "Equipment").

We have no intention of paying these invoices and refute the validity and enforceability of the same. We do not use the Equipment (indeed, we have demanded that NL submit evidence of a single recent transaction; we have received no answer). We have made numerous attempts by phone to arrange for a termination of the supposed "leasing contract" and the return of the Equipment, all to no avail. Our attempts have been continuously ignored notwithstanding that we stated that we have no use for the Equipment and wish to relinquish the same. It would thus appear as if NL's sole goal is to keep merchants tied to onerous and unconscionable "leasing contracts" for the sole purpose of extracting costly monthly fees and charges -- even where the merchant engages in NO processing transactions utilizing the services of NL and expresses an urgent desire to return the equipment (thus making NL whole). NL essentially wishes to get paid for nothing, and is thus stealing from local small business owners.

NL's continued collection efforts are predatory in nature. Each and every day, sometimes twice a day, and on several of our phone lines (both business and personal), NL phones us seeking payment. Notwithstanding our denial of liability and our request to terminate fairly, NL persists. This is egregious behavior and it must stop.

Recent contact with the [redacted] Attorney General has disclosed that NL was the subject of a recent suit filed by the AG's office on behalf of similarly situated small business owners who were subjected to NL's predatory and unlawful practices. [redacted] searches have also disclosed numerous negative returns on NL, as well as lawsuits commenced by merchants.

These guys are crooks, plain and simple.
