They were called (assigned by Choice Home Warranty) because my heater would go on and off - not staying on First, it was a dirty air filter and I needed maintenance on the unitCHW doesn't cover "maintenance"I was promised that that would fix the problemIt didn't$ Second, it was because the gas valve needed to be replacedCHW doesn't cover "valves" Again, I was promised that that would fix the problem It didn't$- after discount Third, the mother board had to be replaced, they replaced it for no chargeCHW might have covered the cost of replacing the "motherboard", but Northstar insisted they just wanted to complete this job and didn't want me to file a new claim(I could if I wanted to, but that would just delayed the repairs.) I was told that that would fix the problemIt didn'tNo cost to me Throughout this process, 1) it was obvious that the tech, with his more than years of experience (he told me that at least five times) was unable to correctly identify the problem and that 2) even after I mentioned, "could it be the thermostat?", at the very start of this project and throughout the process, including prior to the motherboard having to be replaced, the tech assured me that it could not be the thermostat - he never bothered to check - guess what, IT WAS A FAULTY THERMOSTAT! So, they performed a series of costly repairs (cost me $610.00, cost them $ too) that were all unnecessary (to fix the original problem) and eventually, when the real issue was determined, it was a faulty thermostat - a $item To make matters worse, they replaced my existing thermostat with a cheap thermostat that was smaller than the previous thermostat meaning I now had to paint the area around the new thermostat, And, not to mention all the other issuesI would not recommend this company A few other things, They required payment upfront for the second call - very unusualI provided CC info, but insisted they not charge my CC until after the work was performedThey went ahead and charged my CC prior to the service call and without my authorization to do so I contacted PayPal and stoped payment - they used PayPal, and I never authorized them to charge my CC When they found out that I had stopped payment, they threatened me - they would call the police and come to my house to remove what they had repaired, replaced, they would take out a lien on my house and more 4, I contacted Paypal to reverse the payment, but based on their policy, they could not do that I contacted Northstar, informed them of PayPal's policy, and requested they (Northstar) email me an invoice and I would forward them a check

Two workers came to fix AC said it didn't need freon, told me cleaning it might help, then left June 14, 2016- Two techs came to look at our AC because it wasn't cooling off, the looked around, said it wasn't low of freon, that they could clean it for $and that might help, so I let them do that, then they leftI ened up paying $for the cleaning and a service fee Later that evening it still wasn't cooling down Opened the door to check the AC unit and a cover was off, letting TONS of cool air escape Went outside to discover they had turned the power off to my shop while trying to turn off the outside unit Also left the cover off the breaker boxCompletely unprofessionally done June 15, -Call the number provided on invoice to figure something outWas told that the service manager would call me back Never got a call back, left a voicemail after hours for them to call back the next morning June 16, - Never received phone callDecided to call

Faulty installation of equipment, failure to respond/repair the AC units they provided and installed We contracted this company to provide and install the HVAC system at our PreSchool facility Since the building has been complete there has been issue after issueThis is especially sensitive because there are children in the school and the units break down constantly leaving the classrooms hot They rarely respond to me within hours after I call and call Sometimes they never reply We finally had to hire another contractor to fix all the issues of the faulty installation Northstar did We should not have had to pay another company for their mistakes and what work they did do faulty or not should be under warranty

This company contracted through First American Home Warranty refused to use my warranty to replace the AC Capacitor I contacted First American Home Warranty on Monday 08/01/night to report a claim on my AC unit not workingThey assigned a contractor called North Star mechanicalNorth Star mechanical called me first thing in the morning on 08/02/and told me that a technician would be out that dayRushed home to meet the technician and he evaluated the problemTold me that he would have to collect the service fee but the warranty was not going to cover the issue with the ACI asked him what the issue was and he said that we had a bad capacitorhe told me that the warranty wasn't going to cover because my coils in the attic were dirtyHe convinced me that I had to clean the coils and add a float switch in order to replace the bad capacitor and all of it would not be covered under warranty since it was a maintenance issueI told him that I did not want a new float switch

Towards the end of December, we experienced a cold snap that caused problems with our heating unitsI went through our home warranty company because the unit was original to the house and needed to be replacedWe experienced problems during the summer with itOn Jan2, we had technician (Saul) come out from North Star MechanicalI explained everything to him and told him the unit should be condemned because of the issues it is having
He looked at our units and said they needed maintenance and that the outside unit needed Freon because the level was lowSaul rewired our upstairs unit and cleaned the outside unitWhen it came to the Freon, he said he could not do it that day because it was too cold for it to be properly installedHowever, his company called him as he was working on our units and told him to pick some upHe disappeared for about minutesHe came back and said he put the Freon in anywaysHe said the units should run better, but if not, put it on the emerge

I have been overcharged by Northstar Mechanical, a price and method not originally agreed upon
I am forced to use Northstar Mechanical by First American Home Buyer (Home Warranty)
I had a technician look at my system to determine it was unfit and unsafe for use due to carbon monoxide issuesNearly a month later the technician finished his report and Northstar Mechanical contacted me to tell me that my price options ranged from $1,to $1,out of pocket The price was verbally itemized very quicklyThese items were not "bringing up to code" as the company claimed but actual installation items
I spoke with Home Warranty and they said those would be removed from my price, but to my surprise I was charged more than originally agreed (and no sign of charges removed, but rather added) My new bill is $1, I was told on the phone I had to pay right then or they would have the technicians remove the unit from my house

This company has a reputation for not showing upThey were assigned to my First American claimThey gave me a window of 9am-6pm and would not update their arrival timeI stayed home in the hot house all day waiting for them and they did not showMy wife showed me all of the reviews of them not showing up for appointments and not callingI got assurances that the installer would show up from their office (Alex) and their parts manager (Jessica)He answered my call after I got an email from First American that he was on his way and said that he would be at my house in 30-minutesAn hour and a half later he will not answer my calls or textsAfter a few more calls he answers, asks me who I am and then hangs up on me after I tell himTerrible way to conduct business, leave people in a house all day while it's degrees outside and then hide rather than address the issue or try to rescheduleRun away from these guysI wish that I had listened to my wife and I also wish there was a zero star review option

No AC or heat for almost weeks
I have a home warranty which on November 28,I filled a claim with the next day November a tech from North Star Mechanical came out said we needed a coil and it would have to be orderedI paid the deductible to the tech before he leftAlmost weeks later I still have no heat or air &I no part to fix itI have called the home warranty company and northStar several times and no one knows anything except part is on order

They came out to repair my AC Warrantied a part and now won't come back and out and fix They say they no longer service the area
North Star Mechanical came out the last week in May to service my AC unit They warrantied and IFC board and have not come back out to fix the issue They are saying they no longer service the area and is just leaving my AC broken and not sending the new part I called them and they said I had to call Lennox (the part distributor) I called them, they said they don't work with customers only contractors and that North Star Mechanical is supposed to warranty the part and finish the job I called and told them, they said we no longer service your area

North Star Mechanical, Incshowed up to fix my heater, he gave me an ultimatum either I pay him $to maintain my unit or he will not replace the part for my heaterI had to pay him $which included my $for my service feethe technician was in my attic for minutes and he supposedly did the maintenance on the furnaceHe promised me that a part will be ordered however I haven't heard from anyone yetI think they are bad people that plays the bait and switch to take care of business

Company tried to scam me out of $
We submitted the service request to our home warranty on 6/2/After numerous phone calls a tech finally came to our house in 6/10/He stated that he fixed the problem and and the A/C would work better but not at capacity due to coils being 80% clogged and stated they would clean the coils for $I told them I would have to wait and we would make do with the amount of cooling that the fix providedOver the next few days the A/C began blowing hotter than it did before so we called both the company and the warranty to issue another service requestA week later we are still with no A/C and the warranty company refused to send someone else out because the previous tech had said the coils were cloggedI had to get another company to come out and had to pay for it out of pocketThe other company stated the A/C did NOT need the coils cleaned and that they were only at 30% cloggedThey said the only problem my A/C had was it had no freonTh

(F+ rating) I call Wednesday morning to get an apptthey said they would be there between 11- 3pm ThursdayI took off a little more than 1/day of workMy husband who has been retired for years is home all day, but I handle the money etcso he is sitting in that hot house all dayI told the company thisThey show after 6pm after I called and calledthey said there were others put in front of me because they had small children OK so a senior citizen sitting in a hot house all day is okFirst thing they do is try to sell me on a schedule maintenanceno thanks, then they tell me my system needs a chemical cleaning ($185) and a new motorOK then do itI just need cool airWell they have to get it approvedok what's that entail? well the office is closed so it will be tomorrowAre you sure it will be tomorrow? yes, all I have to do is get the company to approve it and run by and get it, and come installNot knowing what time they will be there and wanting cool air, I took off all day FridayJust to find out they can't come out til SaturdayAre you kidding me? sorry they saythen they get there install the motor, and do the "chemical cleaning" which consisted of running my water hose thru the grates on the unitWhat chemical? water?? took minutes, $wow really? they say it needs cleaned every days, do I want to buy a schedule? No, I can run a water hose thru the grates, but thankscomes time to pay, he can't take a credit/debit card, but his office can, so he calls them, I give them my CC infothankslater that day, I miss a call from them, voicemail says, call us about your credit cardI call, voicemail says they are closedI go on with my day, just to miss another call from them and another voicemail saying call us back about your credit cardI call back, voicemail says they are closedI call back the next business day at 9am, give them my credit card info againMiss a call from them again at 10:03amvoicemail says call themI do, and they say you are good to go sorrynext day (hours later) I get an email from them, asking me to pay them via pay palWHAT? Unprofessional and after visits from technicians, weeks in heat of August my ac is still not working

My ac was not cooling Upon arrival on August th the technician told me that the coils needed to be cleaned and that my warranty would not cover that I asked if there was anything I could do bc I did not want to pay the $fee He said no I asked if after he cleaned them and discovered a leak what then...he informed me that regardless he had to clean the coils and I didn't have much of a choice He went ahead and cleaned them and did, in fact, find a leak While the technician was here I phoned the warranty to ask if I did have to pay the cleaning fee or if it was covered since they did have to clean the coils to diagnose the problem There was a heated exchange between myself, the technician and two representatives from my warranty over the phone

Worst experience I have ever had as a customer in any genre of business in my entire life, hands downThey are crooks flat outThe first thing they did was look for things they could charge extra for outside of our home warranty coverage so they could line their pocketsUnfortunately only my wife was home and she didn't realize what they were doingThey charged her $for "cleaning the coils" which consisted of the guy spraying down the outside unit with a water hoseConveniently they required immediate payment in cash because "their payment system was down"
After we got that cleared up, they determined that the system had to be completely replaced and had listed over $1,in extras that were not covered by our home warranty company (First American who is horrible BTW)It took me over a week to negotiate that down until they offered to do it with "only $in uncovered costs out of our pocket"Once I agreed to that, they went back up to $1,and I spent hours on the phone with them and First American sending screenshots and proof that they said $900, before they would honor their offer
After that, they sent me an email asking me to say "I agree" to confirm the work and the appointmentThe day before the appointment I hadn't heard back from them so I emailed them to confirm that they would be there the next dayhours later they emailed me saying I didn't respond to the email to confirm so they wouldn't be thereI then sent them screen shots of my reply email AND a confirmation text directly to the owner of the company who was already texting me over his text ripping my wife offThey got angry and I received an extremely unprofessional call informing me that they would not be coming to my house at all
This entire process took a monthMeanwhile my family is out of an A/C in the West Texas heat and I now have to start the process of getting it fixed completely over from scratch

This company is unethical and will try to sell you services you don't need while they refuse to fix the real problemSo happy that the weather will be down in the teens this weekendI strongly suggest you do not use this company, they need to be out of business
