Review: I signed up for an accounting course is August and completely a total of 8% of the course. I find the way the subject is taught fairly useless. The format is bulky and awkward and not conducive to learning. I decided to cancel the course and was told that I had to pay nearly $400 more to cancel The entire course is 861 and I have paid 196 already which is MORE than 8% of the fee. They are trying to charge me for 30% of the course, an admin fee, and shipping and handling of 39. Shipping and handling for what? There were no course materials sent to me, it is completely online. These charges are bogus.Desired Settlement: I want my account shut down with a zero balance, I have paid for what I have used and more. This is completely unethical.

Review: Penn Foster sent me to a debt collection agency on a "delinquent" status without notifying me or informing me I even had a balance due on my account. Back in September of 2012, I requested a cancellation letter from Penn Foster and a last bill, which I would pay off over a course of 6 months. However, I never received a cancellation letter nor did I receive any information on how much I owed Penn Foster. In fact, I received no further contact from Penn Foster whatsoever after Sept of 2012. They handed my case over to a debt collection agency without trying to work with me on my payments due.Desired Settlement: Change my amount due through collection agency to 125.00 and remove missed payment and delinquency status from my credit report.

Review: I am currently enrolled in the Administrative Assistant Diploma program at Penn Foster Career School. I enrolled in 2011 and due to hardship there was a delay in me completing the program. I have completed 18 out of 26 lesson with an average of 91%. Recently I received an email captioned below -

"We've lowered your tuition balance by 25%! View Online

That's $202.25 back in your stocking! This 25% savings is only good until December 30, so pay off your tuition and pocket your extra cash...just in time for the holidays!

Choose from 3 ways to redeem your savings:

• Log on to your Student Portal and select "Make a Payment."

• Make a payment via chat or email in the Student Portal Help Center.

• Call [redacted] and a Penn Foster representative will assist you.

After December 30, 2014 your balance will go back up – so pay off your tuition and save on your education today!

Don’t forget: Throughout the month of December, Penn Foster will be accepting payments from friends and family members. Forward this email to someone that could help you make payments to pay off your temporarily reduced tuition balance by December 30, 2014."

After receiving the email which I thought was a good deal I proceeded to call to clear any questions I may have had seeing that this deal looked too good to be true. I was told by H[redacted] at Student Care that once that payment of $606.75 was made I would be able to complete the program without having to pay any additional money. I asked Ms. H[redacted] three times and each time I received the same answer. So, I proceeded to make the payment before December 30th 2014.

After making the payment I was now told that the program was revamped and my current account would have to be re-evaluated to see if I could transfer credits to a new program I would have to re-enroll in. So now I am being told I would have to be readmitted with a new student identification number I would have to pay for and I would have to pay the program fee of $659.00. I am totally upset, angry and at a lost for words on how people can be so dishonest and con you into paying money that you don't have. This is false advertisement and I was led to believe by the email sent as well as the representative to think that I could even finish this program.

I am a seriously broke single mother who is just trying to see how to make a better way. Businesses like Penn Foster should not be allowed to operate in this capacity where they coerce you into thinking that they operate for the good in helping people achieve their goals in life. I would like an investigation launched into this school and the way they operate and would like some reprieve either I get my money back or I am allowed to complete the course without payment of anymore money I truly do not have. Please Help Me.Desired Settlement: A full refund of money $606.75 or being allowed to complete the course without any additional money being paid. Thank you for your kind assistance.

I paid for and completed my classes April 1, 2015, I still have not received my diploma and have received 5 different excuses. Dont waste your time, this is a SCAM!

Penn Foster is not for everyone, but fortunately...it's the school for me.
I'm enrolled in the Vet Tech program and love it! It's an online school, an online program, but it's not easy; it's still college.
My top advice I can give to any perspective students is to do your research BEFORE enrolling. Doesn't matter what program it is, always make sure you know Penn Foster's policies, program-related requirements, your state requirements, and any further information that applies to your career.
I see several students drop out of their program because they didn't realize what was required of them. For example, Externships and Practicums...some programs have them, some do not. In the Vet Tech program, the Externship is mandatory or else you will not graduate. It's the responsibility of the student, not Penn Foster, to find their own site location where they will perform their externship.
Students that did not research before enrolling are usually the ones angry and leaving negative reviews because they didn't know they had to complete an externship, find a proctor or site location on their own, unable to find an externship site that has all the necessary equipment (i.e. film-based radiographs), and etc.
On the primary Penn Foster website where you view all the programs to enroll in, you can read an overview of your program of interest. I highly recommend requesting info by mail; I love looking through the brochure and forms. Most questions can be answered there. If one wants to hear from current students, join the Student Community and post to the corresponding program space to get more attention and responses.
I love Penn Foster oh so very much. The school has helped me grow. I get all my emails, questions, and concerns answered in a fair amount of time. I have never had issues with Student CARE/Services. There are many frequently asked questions to read from that can resolve issues without having to contact Student CARE.
One of my favorite features is the Live Chat. It can be found in the Student Portal's Help Center. If you have a question for Student CARE, besides calling and emailing, you can immediately get it answered through Chat. You just have to access it during business hours.
Penn Foster is always in the works of creating something new for their students. They came out with a Study Planner which is available on your student account and can be downloaded as an app on mobile devices. You can create a plan for yourself to keep you on track throughout your studies, plan your graduation date or date to complete your semester. They created meet-ups so that students can get together and express their thoughts about the school and get to know the staff better.
Penn Foster rules! Penn Foster Pride!

Review: I have ben trying for over a year to get a balance removed off my credit report.. When I signed up for the classes I was told I could cancel anytime since I paid in advance for every shipment I received. However when I did cancel course I continued to get billed even though I did not receive any additional shipments. When I contacted Penn Foster I was told I still have to pay for the full course even though I cancelled and did not even receive completion certificate. When asked for a contract that states that information I was told one will be mailed. After numerous calls I still have not gotten the contract. I really don't feel I should be billed for services I never received since I always paid upfront before I got any shipments and this should be removed from all credit bureausDesired Settlement: remove outstanding balance from all credit bureaus

Review: I enrolled into this school's Veterinary Technology program 9/2009. The program is a 2 year Associates Degree, however you are given 6yrs to complete the it since it is online and self-paced. In May 2014, I discovered that I could no longer proceed with my program because it was expiring. I called the school and was told I had to re enroll in their new program because they update it every so often. Upon doing so, I completed the lesson that I needed in order to get back to where I left off in the second semester. Once I passed, I had to make several attempts to contact the school both via phone and email to find out how to proceed with my studies. I was then informed that I owed them $1200 to enroll in the second semester. I was very confused since I was previously making monthly payments of $83.79 from 9/13/11 up until 7/22/13 when I officially paid the second semester off and no longer had a balance. I again made several attempts to contact them to get to the bottom of it. Once I finally reached a student service member they had a message relayed from a supervisor stating that "the best they could do for me is $980". I automatically disagreed to make such a payment since I didn't end with a balance. Their excuse was that "the equity of my second semester had expired". I then requested the remainder of my second semester materials that I had already paid for. Yet again, I battled for an answer when I finally received an email on October 7, 2014 stating that my "remaining semester materials have been released and I have a credit balance". To this day I have no materials. I sent an email over the weekend wondering when I should be expecting my materials but got no reply. Today, 10/20/14, I called a supervisor who told me I will not be getting the materials because I did not request them prior to the expiration. I was told that if I cancel, I will receive a refund check of $314 and change. I received another call shortly after stating that this was a misinformation and I will be getting no refundDesired Settlement: Not only does this school have poor, unprofessional communication, but their lack of their student's goals and best interests is sickening. I've paid well over $2,000.00 to this school and have been a loyal, paying student. In the end this is what I get? I'm told by one person I will be receiving my materials, then told by another that I will not be. I'm then told I will be receiving a refund check in the mail, then someone else calls to tell me this is false. I would like any refund I can get.

To Whom It May Concern:

I welcome the opportunity to address [redacted]’s concerns. [redacted] originally enrolled in our Veterinary Technician Associate Degree Program Semester one on September 14, 2009 by submitting a down payment and a signed enrollment agreement. [redacted] moved forward into the second Semester on July 18, 2011 by submitting a down payment and a signed enrollment agreement.

Students who complete more than ten percent and up to twenty-five percent of their exams owe twenty-five percent of the tuition including the shipping fee. This is stated on [redacted]’s signed enrollment agreement. Since [redacted] completed over twenty-four percent of her exams, she owes twenty-five percent of the tuition including the fee previously mentioned. It is also stated on her signed enrollment agreement that there will be no refunds after twelve months. [redacted] would need to have contacted us by July 2012 in order to receive a refund of any overpayment on the account. Since [redacted] did not contact us we presumed she was to continue the program.

Our Veterinary Technician Associate Degree Program is accredited by The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Our material must adhere to the AVMA requirements to uphold our accreditation. Our programs are designed to be distance education programs that allow students to study at their own pace. Students are given 12 months to complete semesters one and three, 15 months for semester two and 18 months for semester four, with a maximum of six years to complete all four semesters. As [redacted] was enrolled five years and not completed with her second semester, she needed to be evaluated to the current program. On March 27, 2014 [redacted] was advised of this.

Students who have expired equity on their original enrollment are offered a discount on their new enrollment. This is a courtesy we offer for students who are not eligible for a refund on their original enrollment. [redacted] was given a $500.00 discount off her first semester on her new enrollment, for her expired equity on her previous enrollment.

After evaluation, [redacted] re-enrolled in our Veterinary Technician Associate Degree Program Semester one on May 15, 2014 by submitting a down payment and a signed enrollment agreement. Semester one program cost is $1,683.00. [redacted] received the following deductions: $1,134.00 for transfer credit/grade transfer and $500.00 for expired equity, leaving her with a balance of $49.00. In addition, [redacted] was given an additional $340.00 credit balance on her account as a courtesy, as she was not able to receive our pay in full discount. This credit balance would’ve been applied to semester two, once enrolled.

[redacted] was e-mailed her semester two enrollment agreement upon completion of semester one. She questioned the price of semester two as she thought her original semester two enrollment was paid in full. As previously stated, no refunds would be given after twelve months; instead she was offered our expired equity discount, which was applied to her first semester. To help accommodate [redacted], we offered to lower her semester two balance from $1,803.00 to $980.00. [redacted] was still unhappy with the results and did not wish to continue with the program. She was offered a refund of $340.00 however, this amount was part of the credit balance that we put on her account to accommodate her semester one price.

The situation was escalated to me, as [redacted] expressed she would be filing a Revdex.com complaint, I took my time and received all the facts about her account before I tried to reach out to her for an explanation. I had a phone conference with [redacted] on October 20, 2014 to apologize for the misinformation. I attempted to explain the reasoning with the discounts and why she is not eligible for a refund but [redacted] disconnected the call. I apologize for any confusion with [redacted]’s account as she contacted us numerous times about her discrepancy with the pricing. Each time she contacted us, we reached out for a better solution to her concerns. Since there were several agents who tried to accommodate her, some information was misunderstood. We already presented a discount for her semester two essentially cutting the balance in half. If [redacted] would like to continue her education with us, she will have a balance on semester two of $980.00. [redacted] is not eligible for any refund.

Penn Foster is devoted to the educational advancement and satisfaction of all our students. If you have any further questions, please contact me at ###-###-####.

Review: I enrolled in the Pet Grooming Program with Penn Foster on February 2, 2014. At the time of enrollment, I was informed that I would receive all of the supplies needed for the schooling and grooming practices as I progressed though the lessons. The first month was fine and I received three items from the school as part of my grooming package (Comb, Slicker Brush, and Nail Trimmers). I then received a letter from the school to be filled out and returned so that I may receive grooming scissors. I completed the form and mailed it back to them promptly the very same day. A few weeks passed and I hadn't received anything else from the school. I called them to see what was going on and was informed there was a hold on my account due to an address error and that is why they had not shipped me anything else. So it was corrected and the woman told me they would send out my scissors and that the next thing I should receive after that would be my clippers and some posters. So again I waited and waited with still no results. I called again and was informed that there was ANOTHER hold on my account and when asked why this had happened and why wasn't I notified the gentleman responded with "I don't know, these holds just pop up randomly on accounts for no reason". He then proceeded to do everything he could to help get my situation straightened out, even going as far to talk to his manager. Finally I was told that the Pet Grooming Program had changed and due to so many people enrolling they were no longer providing the grooming supplies I was promised in the beginning of my enrollment. Now typically this would not be so big of a deal but I paid a good deal of money to be in the program and I was told those grooming supplies were all included in the price of my tuition. I was nearly done with the program, having only a few lessons to be completed, when they decided I was not getting my promised materials. I understand the demand may be high and they had to change the program, but that should only apply to those new students and the prices should be readjusted to suit the new program. It should not affect myself or any other students already enrolled and especially nearly finished with the classes. This is a huge disappointment, especially since I was looking forward to enrolling in their Dog Obedience Program for the summer. Now I do not think it would be wise of me to spend more money on such an unreliable system.Desired Settlement: I would like for Penn Foster to follow through with their original promise of sending me my supplies that were included in the tuition I paid. If this request is simply too much for them to handle then I believe I should be reimbursed the amount that was considered 'included' in my tuition for supplies and materials. I have since completed the program and am working in a grooming shop and cannot actually groom anything since I've been shorted the very necessary clippers. I cannot afford to go buy a several hundred dollar set of good clippers because my pay is not what it would be if I had the necessary tools promised in the beginning.

Review: I have been trying to take an electronics technician course since August of 2011. I have a learning disability and I have had numerous problems with being treated bad by student services and other people. I have also had numerous problems with not receiving my material shipments they way I am supposed to and missing books from the shipments that I have received. They also are not keeping proper notes on my file so that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. The recently have decided to go all digital with absolutely no regard to the effect that may have on students with learning disabilities and other disabilities. I have a learning and visual disability that does not allow me to sit and stare at computer screen for very long without causing me to get severe migraines. The never sent me any written or electronic notification (email) of any kind that they were going all digital. They claim that they did send notification but I never received anything by mail, email, or student portal. I have tried to speak to them about my disability and the problem I have with going all digital and they are just treating me really bad, have told me that they have no means to accommidate people with any type of disability, just act like they don't care about people with disabilities. I have paid $898.00 for the tuition for this course, some of which is shipping fees, about $300.00 worth. I know there was stuff about the shipping fees in the contract/agreement that I signed for the course, but they hadn't gone all digital when I signed up. Now that they have decide to go all digital, they need to be making some amendments to the contracts/agreements that this is having an effect on, like mine, and issuing refunds for shipping fees for shippments that are not going to be sent now. They also need to realize that there are laws about accommidating people with dissabilities. I am only a few sections away from finishing my course but I cannot do it on the computer due to my disability. I have to have written material in order to complete my course. I also am on a very low income budget and I cannot afford the ink and paper to print off hundreds of pages on my computer in order to have my books. Part of the money I paid for the course was for the materials for it. I have spoken to them about this on several occasions and they have said they will get books shipped, my instructor, Ralph even told me that the last four sections would all be shipped to me in written material, but they have not told me, this last time I spoke to them, that they can't send me written material anymore. This makes it really hard and extremely stressfull to get my course finished, especially since they don't even have all of the books online and the instructors just treat me like I am just stupid and out of luck since I have a disability. They have caused me so much stress with not shipping my materials properly, not having all of the material online so I could try to do it that way. They are making it nearly impossible for me to finish my course.Desired Settlement: They have put me through so much stress and trouble with not shipping properly and going digital and not wanting to accommidate people with disabilities and treating me like I am just stupid since I have a learning disability, that they need to do a partial refund for the shipping fees. They also need to accommidate me for my disability, treat me with respect, and get all my written material to me immediately and completely so that I can finish the course. If they are not willing to accommidate me with my disability, then I demand that they give me the partial refund, at least $300.00, on my tuition, consider my course completed and send me my certificate.

I was told someone just signed up then dropped the course and no information could be given to me. I asked for anything that they can have a copy of faxed to me to prove who this person is that opened this account in my name but was told they didn't have anything to share. Review: I went through the high school course that Penn Foster offered. From the start we had nothing but problems. I was told they were accredited, and that I would have no problem getting into college. That was false. I cannot be accepted anywhere, I have to go and get my GED. After hearing about their college program, I asked around. A family member of mine went through the business course. Therefore, I thought that maybe it was just the high school part that was messed up. Once again, I was guaranteed that they were accredited. Starting out, they gave us a price. The price they gave, was the said price of the course. After being contacted many times yesterday by them, I was informed of more information than they ever gave before. They now say that I will have to pay that every semester, which was NEVER said before. I have also tried to contact them many times before to work out a payment plan, but I never get anyone. The payments are in my fathers name, and since he has health issues to worry about, I tried to relieve the financial stress on him. I informed Penn Foster of the situation and they said that they would work with me since the situation was unavoidable. They were supposed to send us paperwork to put it in my name, but they have yet to do so. Quite frankly, I am getting a little irritated. I have tried and tried to talk to them, but there is no talking to them. They get rude and hostile, and try to talk over you. I have an 1100 balance to them, that I have since I completed half of the semester (even though it had nothing to do with my course of study). Like I stated earlier, I have tried and tried to talk to them about the situation. I am on my own right now, working minimum wage. So them being rude about my situation just puts that much more stress on the whole ordeal. They are now leaving voicemails, telling me to call them ASAP, which I have. I am so tired of dealing with these people. I definitely should have listened to my gut when it came to them. I need this resolved. I have tried to explain that it will take time to pay it off, but they have told me that they need payment now. Please, help me resolve this so I can finally stop stressing.Desired Settlement: I want them to fix my bill to where it is affordable, or just delete me from the system. I also want them to stop contacting me and leaving rude voicemails.

Review: My complaint is in regards to the terms that are covered within the Penn Foster Artist Program. I have enrolled within the Penn Foster Program in order to gain skills from the Penn Foster Career School. However, I am disputing the terms that are included within the program. The reason for the dispute is because I find that the program didn't work out for me. On top of that, I have paid a total of $644 for the program out of my own money. I have found out the program DOES NOT teach the skills in order to succeed in the program. Also, the services that were offered to me weren't very helpful and the instructor didn't seemed to be helpful to me at all. I have written a total of two letters; a letter explaining my situation and a letter explaining why I have resigned from the program. I feel that I have been "left out" from the program and I have enrolled online to attend the program. I couldn't attend the school at its current location due to the fact that I live in a different state. The material could have been summarized better and I didn't understand some of the material. Therefore, I am submitting my dispute regarding the terms to a FAILED program that did NOT TEACH THE STUDENTS the skills needed to succeed as a Traditional Artist.Desired Settlement: I desire a complete refund by check in the amount of $644.

Review: They are advertising there service as one dollar down & $50 a month from then on. I paid them the one dollar down payment in the form of a money order. Review: I signed on to a class with Penn and was provided the written material at first. Now they have decided to go all digital. I do not study well online and when I signed up for this program it was because I would have printed material. Now, before they will send me printed material, I must have Dr. appt to have assessment which they are not willing to pay for. All I asked is that they send me the printed material as they did in the beginning or print it and mail it to me.Desired Settlement: I want them to send me printed version of the online material in at manner.

Review: I am attending Penn Foster as a vet tech student. Penn Foster is reporting classes I have completed as dropped. As a result the VA is requiring I pay them back tuition. I have not dropped or failed any classes. In fact I am finishing classes faster than necessary and hold a 96% average. I have been calling and e-mailing school supervisors and the VA rep at the school. No one will contact me back after several requests to fix this issue. I have even e-mailed copies of the debt letters including the explanation of dropped classes to the school that was sent to me from the VA. I have contacted the school starting mid July about this issue. VA is requiring a payment by September 1st. As a disabled Vet my income is my disability which they will take in order to pay themselves back. The school VA rep named [redacted] does not see a problem and believes I should have to pay the VA back for the classes I have completed.Desired Settlement: I only want Penn FOster to fix their reporting error, which they seem incapable of doing.

Review: I joined penn foster school to learn a trade, The videos and materials are substandard. I want to cancel my course, and they want me to pay a third of the full tuiton cost. I took a test on how to use the website and they are counting that as one of the tests they require payment for. In short this company is teaching people wrong information, and getting paid for it. I would just like to get out of the course, I will send any materials I received back in the same condition I received them.Desired Settlement: They can have whatever money has already been paid, I just want to be out of the course, and not owe them money for a class I did not take.

Review: Good morning,

I am a 49 year old female who has attempted to begin studying at Penn Foster College Online. In 2011 I surfed the internet to find what I thought would be the best college for me to attend; instead I have been struck with a nightmare.

I had registered with the college, then I received notification that I had to pass a math exam in order to be a student. I took the exam and failed. Although I failed the math exam, the school has constantly insisted that I pay them fees for being a student. I feel that this is totally unfair and it has ruined my credit score by a significant number. I have called, emailed, even written the school President/Dean I believe they call him - They will not resolve this issue.

The very first time I called the school, I told the receptionist that I was calling to resolve this money matter-she was nasty and told me "since you threatened to seek legal advice there is nothing we can do for you" it was not long after that I began to receive the threatening letters to pay.

How can I pay for a service that I did not receive? the school has done nothing for me except make my life miserable for so long.

I am asking your assistance in helping me to resolve this matter so that I can put this behind me and move on with my life.

I have never attended the school and I had explained that in my correspondence attempts, yet, I am attached with a current bill over 1,500 dollars. This amount has progressively incurred interest and other fees as the amount increases.

Please see attachments.

Respectfully,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like for my name to be cleared from the Penn Foster College database, and for the 'said' fees to be unassociated with my name and for a letter of satisfaction to resolve my credit report as it has become a credit reporting issue. From the conversation with the young lady on the phone, I feel that the credit reporting was done intentional.
