Pew Law Center Reviews (35)

In trying to reach my attorney Mr. Lawrence D P, I am being told he is not available, not there, yet is the managing partner and founder. I need to understand why I am being redirected to Zolman Law, find out what happened/is happening with my case, they say at Zolman they still have my info in the records but cannot help me, will not tell me what has happened to my records or to my case.

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved Regards, [redacted]

Would give a negative star if I could...I need to file Bankruptcy. This means I have no money, lots of debt, and am basically "ramen noodle" broke. I hired Pew Law Firm in Dec 2018. I lost a job, so they agreed to take payments until the fee was paid in full. I have paid them $1295 so far and have had extremely bad customer service that I decided to fire them and go with a different attorney. The only people I have had communication with were Erik (recruiting sales at the initial consultation which was supposed to be free) & Pam (administration/ office assistant who was always short & rude). I had not had any communication with an actual attorney until 5/15/2019. I emailed a cancellation request and I received no response. I called the next day to get a status on my cancellation request and the receptionist said I had to come in for a meeting. I ended up having to take an hour off work early and went to their office. Here's a recap of that cancellation meeting:
I walked in and waited in a room for 20 minutes alone. When he came in, he shook my hand, introduced himself as Chris, and I asked what his position was at the firm. He said he was an attorney. I chuckled and mentioned he was the first contact I've had with a licensed attorney since retaining them in December. He asked why I wanted to cancel & I said the #1 reason was customer service & lack of communication. I gave him examples and reiterated my frustration that I had never spoken with an attorney, only glorified office assistant and Erik, who was the welcome wagon, not an attorney. He asked if there was anything they could do to keep my business and I said no, I had already agreed to hire another attorney. He asked who it was & I said it was not his concern & I wouldn't tell him.
I asked when I would get a refund of the $1300 I had paid them & he said he's going to have to gather a billable report and get back to me. I asked when I can expect to hear back & he said "at east 2 weeks". I mentioned that other than the initial consultation (which was supposedly free and lasted no longer than 30 minutes), they haven't done anything to bill me for. He said they will bill for reviewing my file, every phone conversation (there were 2 w/ Pam, the office assistant) and mumbled about the various charges that would've accrued throughout the last 6 months. He went to get a cancellation agreement. Came back & acted like he didn't know what the paper stated. He even said, " I don't come across these too often, so bear with me" and continued to read it slowly. When he started to fill in the blanks, (...on this 15th day of May, 2019...) he asked me what my first and last name was. I had tears in my eye, saying he should've known this information and prepared for this meeting as I had it pre-scheduled.
He left the room & came back 15 minutes later. He had my original agreement & another paper that I had dropped off a few months ago from one of my collectors. I had brought my friend into the room while he was gone & at this point, he became very aggressive, wouldn't answer my questions directly, and said he doesn't get paid for arguing with people. He said I had spoken to a female attorney after the initial agreement was signed & it was apparently documented, yet he would not show me this record of conversation. I reiterated that the only female I had ever spoken to was Pam on 2 occasions & she is NOT an attorney. He snatched the cancellation agreement off the table & stated I could expect the billable report after 2 weeks. Then he threatened if my charges exceed the amount already paid, they WOULD collect. Even my friend who was present in the room said I was asking all the right questions & he was just being a big jerk. I left the office saying nothing.
So, I emailed a letter to Mr. D. Pew requesting have my billable ready by 5/24 or I would contact AZ Bar Association and write reviews to warn possible future clients as to how they are ripping me off when I am already broke. Mr Pew did contact me, but only to try & keep my business as I had already paid so much and he said I will receive very little if I cancel. He mentioned he listened to the recorded conversation of my cancellation meeting and disagreed that Chris was aggressive. Don't they have to inform me if conversations are being recorded and used? Mr. Pew was nice, but I the damage has been done. They did absolutely NOTHING for me and treated me like a number - definitely NOT like a person.
Look... bankruptcy is confusing and not a happy process. I am so upset and now even MORE broke. Watch out for who you hire, as this firm does not provide services promised. And they take your money in retaliation. They don't care about people, they are totally in it for the money.

This place is the WORST place I could have went to. They DO NOT keep in contact with you!! I paid all the fees up front which was OVER 2k and for the st service I received is ridiculous!!! As soon as that money was paid these people had no interest in helping you. Literally did EVERYTHING myself, the ONLY thing they did was file which had I known that’s all they were going to do I would have done it myself. Oh and the “lawyer” that came to court just sat there on her tablet. She was kind but we really didn’t need her there. They never informed me of what “could happen” yet when I called last week to let them know I now have a 750$ deposit since I filed bankruptcy for utilities they stated they never knew that could happen and can’t help in any way. That was Eric from here that stated that. Also don’t deal with Pam because she’s such a pleasant person to be around. (Sarcasm)?? I know it was all a lie or their clearly not good lawyers because the supervisor at the utility office said all law firms know that that’s something they have a right to do! They are not interested in helping you they are just money hungry! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! DO NOT GO HERE! Save yourself 2k+ and do it yourself.

I contacted the Pew Law Center for assistance with an IRS problem. The young man who called me back was Eric Strecker, an Army vet as I am. After I had described the situation, Eric set up an appointment for us to meet and work out a strategy. However, before that appointment time, I received a letter from the IRS that made that legal assistance unnecessary. I cancelled. Eric was a good listener and offered helpful suggestions for other veteran issues I was experiencing, as well. If I have a need for legal assistance in the future, I’ll certainly contact the Pew Law Center, thanks to the good experience with Eric Strecker!

Ms. [redacted]We understand that you came to our firm in a stressful
situation, and we acknowledge and empathize with the stress you are in. It is
why we practice in the areas we do; to help people alleviate financial stress
and burdens. That being said, we can never make promises or guarantees...

of
success in alleviating those burdens, especially in the realm of student
loans.  When you initially met with Adam in May he made known to you
that our purpose was to investigate the loan in question and see if there was
anything that could be done. He stated there was no guarantee that we could do
anything to absolve your obligation on the loan. At that time you decided to
move forward with our firm.In response to your
recent complaint with the Revdex.com we are providing a billable,
which breaks down the services rendered against your $1,000.00 retainer. As
outlined in the billable, the retainer was used for calls, meetings, research,
and letters drafted and sent to the Department of Education.

The best decision I ever made was to hire Pew Law to handle my Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Their staff is professional, knowledgeable and available to answer any questions or concerns I have via email or phone. I would highly recommend Pew Law to anyone who needs an attorney and staff you can trust will be there for you

We had a great experience at Pew Law, the entire staff was helpful and made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived for our first appointment. Dealing with the IRS is a stressful situation and with their expertise we were able to resolve our problems. Phone calls were always answered promptly and they were on top of everything throughout our experience. Thank you so much for helping us, I would not hesitate for a moment to return to your office for other matters and will most definitely refer others to you.

BEWARE!!!!

On average, the attorney’s fee to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is approximately $1250 plus a filing fee of $306. Pew charges an inflated rate of over $3000!!!!

Once I found this out I called the next day to cancel my contract, yet they proceeded to charge my credit card....I have had to call my card to dispute this matter and have contacted the AZ state bar regarding this unethical practice!!!!

+2

Having thought I would never see the day of not resolving my debt issues I can now say that the best thing I ever did was meet with the Pew Law Center. What a huge difference this has made in my life after all life happens and the Pew Law Center has helped me with my life's difficulties.

Highly Recommended

I recently & regretfully went through filing bankruptcy. I wasn't looking forward to going through the process & found Pew Law Center. They helped make the experience fairly painless & even somewhat educational. I was afraid I might not be able to keep certain tools of trade that were a secured debt which meant the tools themselves were collateral for the debt & could be taken to settle it. [redacted] at Pew Law were able to negotiate a reaffirmation which meant I was going to be able to keep them & end up paying $1000 less on the balance & 13% less than the previous interest rate. Overall it ended up working out better than I ever thought it could have.
