Pew Law Center Reviews (35)

Hi, My name is [redacted] and we hired Pew Law Center to handle our case . All I can say is Thank You they did an amazing job. The staff was excellent [redacted] and [redacted] at the front desk went above and beyond the service by reassuring me it was ok to call with many questions and always got me to the right person . [redacted] who had to deal with my multiple copies of documents was awesome when I brought more then needed but took them with a smile and reassured me it was fine.[redacted] that went over all the documents and answered my question with no problem and returned every call in a timely matter. [redacted] who we met with reassuring us it will all workout and once again put up with my repeated questions. The fee that was charged was very good and we did shop around due to the fact we were taken advantage of by another Law Firm. The biggest Thanks to our Atty [redacted] he was the best and did such a excellent job I had to hug him when it was all over. (I don't hug strangers and he now became like extended family) by being very reassuring it will be fine and it was.So if you need representation I 100% recommend The Pew Law Center. They are Rock Stars and know what they are doing!!! Thank You once again [redacted]

Review: In August, my husband and I went to the Pew Law Center to start bankruptcy proceedings. We were on a payment plan and had paid all of the money plus court session money. In October, we were paid in full. However, the last session that we had in October, we met with Mr. [redacted] and he told us at that time that we really weren't eligible to file because "we made too much". So, when we got home, my husband and I decided that we would just like to try to pay off our debts. I emailed Mr. [redacted] to inform him that we changed our minds and would like back a reasonable refund because according to the contract that we signed, we could get back a refund lest the amount that was spent on our case. I have emailed Mr. [redacted] on numerous occasions inquiring about our refund and sometimes he would email back and said that we would need to meet up or when we called, he didn't respond. That has been since October that we have informed him that we wanted a refund back but to no avail.Desired Settlement: We would like to get back the court fee of $335 since we never even went to court and what they have figured out the monetary value is of their service from August until October and no further is to be subtracted from the 2995.

Response:

According to our records the last communication with Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] was by email on the 4th of February. One of our attorney's was reaching out to discuss the various options to move forward with their case, and we have been waiting for a response. If Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] do not want to move forward with their case we would be happy to refund the court filing fee of $335 and we will work up a billable for the time spent on the case from August through October and refund the remaining amount of their fee. It should also be noted that the agreed upon fees (and the amount paid) were $2490 plus the $335 filing fee.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

Having to file bankruptcy is a scary and to be honest embarrassing thing to have to do. The Pew Law Center made us feel so comfortable. They took our fears away with their caring staff. They took care of everything so professionally and put our minds to ease because of there quick responses to all of our questions. The best experience in an bad situation.

Review: I hired the firm to prepare my back taxes in Sept 2013. In January 2014, I had gathered all the records I had and delivered them to the office. I brought originals as I have never done this before and the information provided did not state I needed copies. When I dropped the documents off, they advised me I was supposed to have copies, but accepted the originals. I also delivered an urgent time sensitive letter I had received from the [redacted] that I did not understand. My rep assured me he would look at it and tell me what it was and how it needed to be handled. I have 7 days to respond to it. I had to call back several times to get an answer. The tax person never looked at it and told me to call the [redacted] myself. I left many voicemails for the tax person who rarely returned my calls. I sent emails in with case information and questions.

I had to keep calling to get answers to my questions. In April, I still had not received any communications. I emailed in again but to their general inbox stating I would be filing a complaint if I did not receive a response. I did receive a response which informed me that the rep I was working with was no longer there. They further stated that it had taken over 4 months to get a report from the [redacted] to prepare my taxes. I received one tax return almost immediately. However, it has now been another 60 days with no communication and no further work has been delivered and emails are again going unanswered.

In January, I had to update my account with a new card number. The representative who took my information submitted my [redacted] as a [redacted] putting a permanent block on them from using my debit card as they are marked as fraudulent. With the billing issues, they claimed they called me and left messages to pay - this became required due to their processing error because I would now be required to call the bank, give a temporary 2 hour release of the block to allow them to process the card. I never received a call, so I assumed all payments had been made. The firm stated that I had a balance due and produced a different person again from who I started dealing with who asked if I had a method to pay. It took 2 additional emails to get a statement on account. After I received that, I reached out to pay twice - taking time from my job to arrange to handle the problem they created with my card, but never received a call back. So I mailed my final payment in to them. And no response from them, again.

Aside from not receiving the work contracted for, I have had several questions about how to file back taxes when unable to pay the full amount and what happens when I suddenly have a set large amount due to the [redacted] have gone unanswered. .Desired Settlement: Refund of the money paid and return of all my original documents (income statements, business bank records, receipts, payroll records, time sheets, property tax records, etc) which were submitted and accepted instead of copies.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] has reached out to Ms. [redacted] by phone to resolve this issue. Most of the work on this case has already been completed. Mr. [redacted] and Ms. [redacted] were able to come to an agreement, and Ms. [redacted] has indicated that she is pleased with the way this dispute has been handled.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Pew Law Firm did finally submit a copy of my tax reports to complete the contract. However, they did not respond to me for over 10 days after the complaint was filed with Revdex.com. Furthermore, it took several week after submission for them to mail the tax forms that they stated were completed before the complaint was filed. The forms that were mailed had the wrong address. They agreed to send new forms with the correct address. The new forms still had an incorrect address. PLUS, Pew Law Firm also added a tax liability for me to a state I have never lived in, worked in or done business with at all. I do not know why they decided I had a tax liability in a state that I do not, but they submitted forms for me to be paying a state I do not owe taxes in.There are so many mistakes that this seems to be drawing on forever. It is now entering the 9th month for them to prepare taxes. I am by no means satisfied with the work.

Tereasa,

We have reached out to Ms. [redacted] on several occasions to resolve these issues to her satisfaction. The errors that she has expressed concern about have been resolved. This matter has even brought before the [redacted] and they have noted that we have done as much as we can to help Ms. [redacted]. At this time she is no longer returning our calls or emails. I can not say enough positive things about working with PEW. They were both professional and effective as well as caring and compassionate. I would highly recommend them!

Pew Law Center has done an outstanding job each step of the way! "*", [redacted], [redacted] & [redacted] have all gone above and beyond expectations! I even referred my parents to them to handle their case! I would recommend Pew Law Center in full confidence!

I highly recommend Pew Law Center. Really, look no further. We interviewed 3 law firms and without a doubt Pew was hands down the best choice. From our 1st meeting we knew we had made the right choice. This is a hard time in your life and you need to make sure that you chose a firm that will make the process easier and as smooth as possible for you. We loved that we could email questions or concerns and they almost immediately got back to us. Our case had a few unique situations with some creditors harassing us. I contacted our Attorney, he immediately called me and he got a letter out to the creditor the next day and the harassment stopped! We personally liked the use of electronic communication - we received email reminders of important timelines, as well as text messages. Let's face it, this is a stressful time and you are kind of in a fog (well, at least we were at times) but they were there leading us all the way through. On the day of our 341 meeting our Attorney was at the courthouse waiting for us to go over what to expect and he sat with us at the table. You couldn't ask for any more then that. We really can't say enough good things about the entire team/office. Everyone was exceptionally nice and caring. Before our hearing we received an email with a video showing us exactly what to expect on the day of our 341 meeting - what questions will be asked, parking, directions, the courthouse and reminders of what to bring. You will be really happy with Pew Law Center - We sure were! I have probably written 2 reviews in my life (who has the time) but when you receive exceptional service I believe they deserve the acknowledgement. I hope this review has helped someone make a good choice!! You will not be disappointed!

My experience with Pew Law Center startd off a little on the not so good side. There phone system is very difficult to reach a human. The original people handling my case left and it was difficult for me to reach anyone. Then I came in contact with [redacted], she has answered all my calls and emails and has dealth with all my questions and concearns in a very professional manner. She is amazing and smart ask for her if you need assistance. [redacted] you are wonderful and deserve a big raise. This company is only getting a positve from me because of [redacted].

My wife and I contacted Pew Law Center to help with a federal tax compromise. Mr. Pew took the case himself and I have to say the results were awesome! The IRS can be extremely difficult, but I appreciated all the effort put forth by both Mr. Pew and his paralegal, Tiffany M[redacted]n. Tiffany was always available for questions and kept us at ease as we work through this compromise with the Federal Government. Mr. Pew was the right choice and his staff is caring, empathetic, and extremely helpful. You will be in good hands with Mr. Pew, Tiffany Martin, and the rest of the staff. Thank you so much!!

Oh what a journey! Never thought I would be 'here' but here I am! What brought me to this place, filing Chapter 7?
In 2011, my pension had been cut by about $2,000 a month. This was what I used to pay my credit card debt and other things each month.
I knew I had to continue paying my rent at my present home and did so, never late. My neighbors niece said she was an attorney; working in a law firm and about to become Partner. We became friends and she was also my first friend in [redacted]. I eventually confided in her and she agreed to help me with filing Chapter 7. She was also genuinely happy about becoming Partner at her law firm.
I knew her family here and thought I could really trust her. I was alone here in [redacted], moving here in 2010. No family, friends and I really needed someone who knew the law and could hold my hand through the process. I paid her fees and court costs. She always brought the papers to my home as at the time I was on a walker and waiting for a pending knee replacement. She even came to visit me in the nursing home. My 341 in 2011 was during my 30 day stay at the nursing home. She filed for an extension and it was granted.
After my release from the home and just before the new 341 hearing, she indicated she could not go with me to the hearing. She said she had other appointments and I had not requested this of her. I didn't understand. I spoke with my son who indicated that this was the ONLY chance I had to straighten this out and I should NOT go alone!. The date came and went. I was a NO-SHOW. No word from my so -called attorney. She wouldn't even return my phone calls! That very same day in the mail, was an envelope from the Court Trustee returning my documents for INADEQUATE POSTAGE!! (Can you believe it?) I still have that envelope with the finger pointing! I could have gone to jail!
(I have since learned she is in prison for some other con according to her family.)
Skip forward to 2014. I really needed to get my Chapter 7 done! I had saved up enough money for a down payment to get this done! Only this time, WHICH ATTORNEY???
I wanted a legit attorney and remembered a TV ad with [redacted] talking about PEW LAW CENTER. I called for an appointment.
In January, 2014, I went into the office of PEW LAW. We discussed my case and I shared with them what had previously transpired in terms on my earlier Chapter 7. We agreed on a payment schedule and I stuck to it. My actual filing was October 31, 2014. My 341 was December 1, 2014. (Whew, when it was over!)
On DECEMBER 4, 2014 my landlady tells me she is putting the home I am renting on the market. OMG!! Now I must find another place to live!.
In searching for a new place I found ........ NO PROPERTY wanted to rent to anyone whose
Chapter 7 had not yet been DISCHARGED! I was getting the same verbal 'turn down' over and over again. I thought perhaps with a well qualified co-signer, (a Dr. my son) might help. NOPE!!
Wouldn't do as he was not yet over 55, in the over 55 communities. I was always open and honest about my situation and asked for their CONFIDENTIALITY. Some didn't even want to show apartments after I explained my situation. I was always upfront with those I met. My realtor really tried looking out for me indicating which property management companies he knew would not accept my circumstances. We avoided those properties.
Out of sheer frustration and visions of seeing myself on the streets as a bag lady, I sent an email to PEW LAW CENTER and shared my dire situation. Surely I was not the first to be in this situation. Having always owned a home before coming to [redacted], I could envision myself homeless and living on the streets! (truly!)
I was desperate and REALLY needed help! I couldn't share my plight with anyone!
My Realtor and I kept looking. He felt doing business with an Owner vs a Property Management Company would be better for me.
During the viewing of a home I really liked, my Realtor went outside to call the listing Property Manager. While speaking with the Property Manager, the Owner came in. She said she already had an application for the property. I told her my story. She too was very afraid financially of people who had filed bankruptcy. I also told her my son was a Doctor and would be co-signer on the lease with me. I also told her that I had contacted my attorney about my situation. She asked that I get an application in ASAP. I did so that day. Before going to bed that night, I looked at the listing again. The status was "Pending". Good, I thought to myself. I slept soundly that night. The next morning upon checking the status of the listing, it read "Back On The Market". WHAT??? I had been DENIED! What was I going to do now? I called my son who tried to comfort me. His wife overheard our conversation and called me back. She asked if I had heard from eit her of the Realtors. I said that I hadn't yet. She indicated that perhaps the 'Pending/Back On The Market" was the previous applicant and not me.
I tried to hold onto that thought and keep an open mind.
Upon checking emails later that day, I discovered a reply from PEW LAW CENTER to the Owners Realtor, copy me (paraphrasing) ..............
Any Lease I would enter into would NOT be a part of my Chapter 7. .......................
The Owners Realtor copied the Owner and I copied my Realtor. Oh, PEW LAW CENTER,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You have no idea what your reply has meant for me!
I was awarded the lease!
I get the keys on 14Febuary, 2015 (What a wonderful Valentines Day present!)
I also had another email from PEW LAW CENTER.
TODAY ,
Your bankruptcy has been DISCHARGED!
Thank You, PEW LAW CENTER, Thank YOU!
In closing,
No one wants to file any CHAPTER ANYTHING. But life has a way of taking us places and through times in which we thought we would NEVER go. When life takes us to those places, we come out much better than before. We've experienced LIFE!
The lessons I have learned:
- Life isn't always GOOD or PRETTY!. But we are BLESSED to be able to travel this road.
- Do not be afraid to face truths. Do not believe we can control EVERYTHING.
- Believing is not 'fixing'.
- It's OK to ask for help. Just be sure you are asking one WHO CAN TRULY HELP!
- Do your homework. Cons come in all ages, styles, genders and sincerity.
- Be earnestly thankful...
I also love the Dave Ramsey lessons, radio show and blogs. Growing up, we never talked
about money. It was as if we would learn about it along the way. Well, I am still learning about it, .... even at my age.
In closing, I feel very BLESSED to have met the GREAT PEOPLE at PEW LAW CENTER who helped me come along way.

Review: I gave them close to $5000.00 in 2011. They have never returned my calls, they have never finished my taxes, they sent the IRS a letter saying they no longer represented me but did not tell me this, they have not worked with the IRS at all, I had to negotiate with the IRS. Now all I am asking for is my tax information they were suppose to finish from 2010 and they won't return my call. I had to go online pretending I was going bankrupt and needed their assistance to get a call from them. That was over two weeks ago and the gentleman told me [redacted] no longer works there, he would check into it and call me back - still no answer. I called today 5/23 and sure enough the person I needed to talk to was in a meeting. This is what they tell me every time and I NEVER GET A CALL BACK BUT THEY TOOK MY MONEY WITHOUT A PROBLEM.Desired Settlement: I would like my information I took to them regarding my 2010 taxes and my money back.

My experience with Pew Law Center has been nothing but a positive one. A great deal of that is due to Heidi C[redacted]. Everyone has been a pleasure to work with at Pew. However, Heidi was amazing as she went above and beyond in guiding me through the process that fit my situation. They looked at my whole situation and came up with solutions to get my life back. I can not thank Heidi enough for everything she has done. Her professionalism and integrity really showed when she explained the legal process in great depth and answered all my questions as the case proceeded.

I am very satisfied with the courtesy and professionalism that I received from [redacted] and members of his staff from the initial meeting and subsequent filing of my case with the Arizona District Court. I would recommend Pew Law Center to anyone and I speak very highly of them when I am asked about my experiences with them.

Review: In December my checks started getting garnished for something that was included on a bankruptcy that I filed through Pew a few years ago. I called pew to stop it. Initially I felt confident that they would take care of it. The lawyer I talked to said they would stop the garnishment and then the next step was to get my money back. But, after a while I stopped getting return calls. And if I did happen to get a call, it was just someone relaying a message. It is now april and the full $2100 garnishment has been taken out of my checks. They did not stop it even though it was going on for 4 months. I called a week ago and left a message, but never heard back. I called the new client line this morning hoping to get through to an actual person, which I did, and was told by the girl who answered that voicemails get lost and I need to submit my questions in writing. I have never been told that before and she didnt even offer to transfer me to the office like they have before. Im very disappointed with how im being ignored. I just want answers.Desired Settlement: They said they would stop the garnishment and didnt. They also said that I would get the money back and I need that to happen.

Response:

Ms. [redacted]—we understand your frustration. You filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy to get a fresh start. To ensure we had listed all your creditors we had you review and sign your bankruptcy petition prior to filing. We did everything we were retained to do to get you the relief available through bankruptcy. As you can imagine, we cannot be held responsible for any creditor or debt collector who violates bankruptcy law. [redacted]e coming back almost four years after you filed is not something we could anticipate. We just sent another demand letter with case law to inform [redacted]e that they are in violation of the law, and that they need to turn over to you the money they recently garnished. We typically charge $250.00 to send these letters, but we waived the fee in your case. Please know we are trying to resolve this situation and help you for a matter that is beyond our control.

I just would like to say Heidi C[redacted] at the Pew Law Center is a wonderful person to work with. She made my husband and I feel very comfortable from the start. She's very friendly and her customer service is excellent. We were not sure how things would happen on our particular case but she took extra time in explaining things and making us feel that life happens and things will be ok.
