High priced trailer for low quality product. Absolutely NO QA before shipping trailer to dealer!
I ordered a desert tan utility trailer in Feb of 2020 from Pj dealer in Columbia Falls Montana. This is my 4th trailer from the dealership. The model is a *** Sales price $3850 . Trailer was delivered on 3/2/20. I parked trailer at my residence until returning from business trip. Upon close inspection of trailer I noticed numerous breaks in the welds, some leaving holes for water infiltration into the boxed channels that WILL lead to rust. There are globbed welds throughout the trailer with a bunch of spots that weren't grinded down before the powder coat process. The seams where metal was put together weren't straight and look real horrible. There is rust already on portions of the metal sides and rail that were not prepped or powder coated properly. This will lead to further degradation of the trailer. When the trailer is hooked up and electric brakes applied, the function isn't proper. The electric brake controller has to be turned up to max setting just to engage and then it doesn't lock up tires. I called the manager on 3/8/20 to discuss and he stated PJ probably won't do anything so I told him I would email the manufacturer directly. 3/8/20 email was submitted to PJ and received email saying someone will contact me. 3/10/20 another email received asking if my question/ inquiry was answered, I replied no. 3/16/20 sent another email to PJ customer service and still no response. 3/25/20 I contacted the local PJ dealer once again and was told the issues would need to be taken up with the manufacturer. Stated the trailer brakes would start to "set in" after 200 miles. I told him that was unsatisfactory considering my other PJ trailers worked right away without having to wait 200 miles. He recommended me taking it to a repair facility nearby.

Desired Outcome

I am asking the welds be repaired, slags grounded down, rust spots repaired and repowdercoated. The brakes will need adjusted to work properly as well. These items should not be the responsibility of the consumer to fix especially after paying full retail value. If PJ had a quality control person inspecting trailers during and after the build process I wouldn't have to be submitting this review. I have been a loyal brand specific customer to PJ up until this point. The quality just isn't there on this unit ordered. I have pictures available

I accept this response as a path forward. I am disappointed that I had to file a Revdex.com case to get a reply from the manufacturer. As stated before, QA is lacking and follow up with manufacturer emails from their website is lacking.

Bent Frame
We purchased a 2019 PJ Trailer, CC Model, 14,000 GVWR from Mayes Trailer Sales in October 2019 for the purpose of transporting construction equipment. I loaded 5 different pieces of equipment at 5 different times with the largest weighing 10,800 lbs. While being loaded the rear stabilizer jacks were used on solid level surfaces every time. I noticed that the trailer started to bend starting from between the axles on both sides. I went to Mayes Trailer Sales in Franklin Indiana where the trailer was purchased. Cameron and the warranty guy looked at the trailer and agreed that it was bent. I gave them the make and model of each piece of equipment that was loaded on the trailer and they agreed that none of it was heavy enough to bend the frame. They took pictures of it and sent the to PJ Trailers warranty department. I was contacted by Mayes Trailer Sales and they advised me that PJ Trailers warranty decided that they would not cover it due to improper loading. I called PJ Trailers and left a message for the warranty department and was contacted back by Elliot. I advised him that I am the only one that loaded that trailer and I know it was properly loaded every time using the jacks on solid, level ground. Elliot advised me that he would talk to his supervisor and get back with me. I waited 2 weeks and tried to call him back. I left 9 messages which he refused to return the calls. I went back to Mayes Trailer Sales and contacted Cameron and his supervisor which in turn called someone at PJ Trailers and told them to return the call to Cameron. Cameron talked to Elliot again and he still refused to warranty the frame under the warranty policy.

Desired Outcome

I am wanting the trailer either replaced or repaired so that there is no further problems with it.

there trailers are junk and if you break down , be ready to be broke down for a long time , it took them a month to get my axle sent to a dealer in order to have my trailer fixed, an there warranty department is awful , I use my p&j trailer for my work and its terrible for new equipment to have such a major breakdown , and for them to also take there slow time getting you the part to fix the problem, never again will I waste my money on there equipment... the trailer was new only had it for 4 months.

PJ Trailers Response • Oct 18, 2019

PJ Trailers was contacted on 9/11/2019 by this customer, reporting an alleged bearing failure on a Dexter Axle. The product in question was the axle, which is not manufactured by PJ Trailers. We informed this customer that the axle was subject to Dexter Axle's warranty, and that we would simply relay the information give to us to Dexter Axle.

Our warranty policy states that all auxiliary parts (bearings are listed) are subject to the warranty of their respective manufacturer. In cases such as this, we simply pass on the information received from the customer to that manufacturer.

PJ Trailers denies any responsibility in this claim for the reason that we did not manufacture the item that failed, and therefore are not directly responsible for warranty of said product. I have attached a copy of our policy to this response for your review.

Thank You.

I purchased a B5 buggy hauler several years ago. PJ advertises their trailers as superior because they are powder coated after being blasted and acid washed. The finish on my trailer has deteriorated very significantly in comparison with other "lesser quality" trailers that I have owned. The structure is beginning to break down in just 5 years from purchase. There are several soft spots on the trailer, and it will be taken to scrap very soon. I am very disappointed with the overall quality of my PJ. I was hoping that this trailer would last quite a long time. Unfortunately, that is not the case. This trailer still has original tires and wheel bearings on it. A much cheaper trailer that is used and stored in similar conditions has lasted more than three times longer than the PJ. I contacted PJ, and the representative informed me that they are doing research on the coatings. They offered me a hat in return for my disappointment. I do understand that the trailer is out of the warranty period, so I dont have much to fight for. I would review them as overpriced junk. I would strongly suggest purchasing a trailer from another manufacturer.

Inaccurate vehicle description and multiple quality issues.
I purchased a PJ Trailer 6" Channel Equipment Tilt (T6) equipment trailer on X-XX-XX for $6500

On my trip home from the dealer (which is 2 hrs away) I noticed a bad vibrations between 40 and 55mph. Upon arriving home I noticed the tilt trailer's deck had pulled free from the safety latch (which was still engaged and pinned). I tilted the trailer back up, re-engaged the safety latch and tried to use the trailer for a small load when the tilt deck released again while driving.

I called the dealer "Cooks Auto Sales" on the next available business day and they said this is a PJ Trailer Warranty issue. I contacted PJ trailers and submitted a warranty claim.

After a significant about of email correspondence, pictures, and complaining PJ trailers agreed to have my closest PJ dealer "Jimmy's Auto and Trailer Sales" (1.5 hrs away) repair the problems. I tried using the trailer several times but the tilt deck constantly disengaged forcing me to chain down the deck for any size load.

8/13/2019 I dropped off the trailer and upon picking it up that evening found the vibrations at highway speeds still present. The dealer adjusted the safety latch but didn't make any repairs to the latch or properly load test the trailer. I took the shop manager Jim for a ride showing him the problems and refused to accept the trailer un-repaired.

I contacted PJ Trailers warranty POC Erinie and he admitted PJ trailers has a problem with the China wheels and tires not being round (this is called wheel & tire runout) and asked the dealer to try new tires.

As for the safety latch releasing the trailer, he said I must be loading the trailer incorrectly and placing too much weight on the tail of the trailer. PJ trailer states on their web site and documentation that this trailer has a load rating of 14,000 GVWR (10,000 load limit). Nowhere on the web site does it inform the customer that the tilt deck safety latch cannot handle the documented load rating. I would not have purchased this model trailer knowing the tilt safety latch has load limitations. Now that I have purchased the trailer, PJ trailers stated that 60% of the load must be placed on the front of the trailer. I asked them to test the tilt trailer latch with at least 3,000 lbs to make sure it holds. They refused to do the test. The latch problem makes the trailer very difficult and extremely hazardous to load and operate.

I am requesting replacement of the trailer with an non-tilt version which is actually a cheaper trailer the the one I purchased.

Desired Outcome

If replacing the tires (and or wheels) solves the vibration problem AND Jimmy's can demonstrate that the latch will hold at least 3,000 lbs placed on the trailers tail, I will accept the repaired trailer. If they refuse to do the load test. I am requesting replacement of the trailer with an non-tilt version which is actually a cheaper trailer the the one I purchased.

PJ Trailers has received more support from the customer in the previous week and we have decided to approve the customer's claim based on the new video evidence of the problem that the customer has submitted to us.

PJ Trailers has issued a payment request for the complete coverage of a repair invoice that Mr. *** has submitted to us. We have also provided him with a brand new set of wheels and tires.

The customers concerns have been addressed and taken care of.

PJ Trailers has agreed to pay for the repairs to my trailer. They stated that it would take 8 weeks for the check to arrive. I will not repair the trailer until the check arrives. I also do not wish to close this complaint until the check arrives.

PJ Trailers has agreed to pay for the repairs to my trailer. They stated that it would take 8 weeks for the check to arrive. I will not repair the trailer until the check arrives. I also do not wish to close this complaint until the check arrives.

I purchased a 24ft trailer model T-6. 16ft gravity tilt and 8ft stationary. I purchased the trailer to pick up a truck in Colorado. The trailer pulled fine, the brakes were fine.
I put a 84 F350 gas crew cab. About 30 minutes into the trip the tilt popped open and the locking latch was still in place. I had to jack it up and re- latch. Put a 2" strap at the front of the tilt. Didn't use it for the rest of the week. Drove home with the truck and the latch popped again and broke the strap. 3am in the morning. Then I installed a chain binder to keep it in place. Pete's trailer sales could not fine a problem with the latch, they put a tractor on the back and it didn't pop open But they didn't drive it down the road with the load, So it's not the same test. PJ told me that it was loaded incorrectly, That is BS. Said I should of had weight on the front of the tilt. Not sure how you would load a truck that is longer than the tilt, the wheels distance between the axles are 16ft.
I was looking to get my money back and they could sell it as a used trailer. I Will Never Buy Another PJ trailer, and I will let everyone know that they don't take care of the customer's concerns.
The latch hooks look strong but they are located in the middle of the trailer and hook to a channel that must have flecked when going down the road because the latch and handle did not move. I also scratch the paint and PJ dosen't have a paint warranty.

PJ Trailers documented this issue in a warranty claim, in which we received pictures of how the truck was loaded on the trailer. We noticed that the truck was improperly loaded on the trailer. The front axle of the truck was pulled forward onto the stationary deck (in front of the tilting deck) and the rear axle was stationed behind the rear axle, which is on the tilting deck, and behind the hinge assembly on which the deck tilts. This causes an unsafe loading condition, as there is no weight on the front portion of the tilt deck (truck is pulled forward onto stationary section) and all of the weight that is on the tilting deck is behind the tilting hinge system. This causes an upward lift, and forces the latching system to fail as weight is improperly distributed on this trailer.

We advised this customer of proper loading practices and weight distribution, and alerted him to the dangers caused by such loading practices.

Then why did Pete's trailer sales sell me this trailer if it was unsafe to run on the road with this truck? I told them what I was going to put on it. I also have 4 other dealers telling me that it should not be an issue to put my truck on this trailer? Recorded calls all stating the same thing.
Also no way to put weight on the front put of the tilt, if the trucks front wheels were located on the front of the tilt then all the weight would be a the back of the trailer and that is very unsafe. I was also told by Pete's that the tilt should be able to hold 4000lb. The truck that we put on it is a total weight at around 5000lb with most on the weight ar the front engine. If PJ is staying that this was not the trailer for my needs, then the dealers need to make that known to the buyers.
Also the fact that the latch is located in the center of the tilt ( at the weakest point of the channel) with no other support, I feel is a poor design and should be looked at.

I also just had a couple more notes about the quality of the trailer.
(1) chains were too short and need to be changed before left Pete's when we picked it uo.
(2) 7 pin connector is too long and had to be wrapped around the trailer so it wouldn't drag on the ground.
(3) side marker/ blinker was not blinking.
(4) the boards under the front tilt are all cut to different lengths. Not sure why ?
Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the front 3 or 4 drivers side steak pockets are tight for the D rings that Pete's sold me. All 4 that I purchased don't fit in those slots.
Going to pick it up now so I'll see if Pete's fixed the marker light. I'll let you know.
Thanks.
