Plymouth Rock Energy Reviews (37)

Review: I joined Plymouth Rock Energy about a year ago. They have an aggressive cold calling team that guarantees that you will see your electric bill decline within 6 months. This had been true to a very negligible amount, ie the savings through Plymouth Rock were in the $1-$3 dollar range. After the 6 month period their savings disappeared. I only noticed this by looking at the latest statement for February. According to [redacted], my primary electric utility, I would have been billed $75.83 for the month, where as Plymouth Rock charged me a whopping $168.19. The previous months have shown the a similar pattern. A typical bait and switch scheme in my opinion.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund for the difference for the month of Feb which is $92.36. I shall refrain from requesting a refund for the previous months.

Business

Response:

Plymouth has contacted the customer and

provided them with the following assessment. In view of the customers concerns

regarding pricing, PRE will refund an amount equivalent to the differential

between the utility and what was charged with PRE; a check has been sent to the

customer in the amount of $93.10.

In conclusion, Plymouth has fully and

consistently adhered to its contractual obligations and the provisions of the

Uniform Business Practices.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

1. Check has not been received. It has been over 6 weeks. When cancelling Plymouth Rock Service in March, I was told the check was in the mail.

2. Upon cancelling my service with Plymouth Rock, I was again overcharged for the month of March. Plymouth Rock charged me $183.00, [redacted] would have

charged me 87.29 for the same period. A difference of $95.71.

3. It appears that my April bill contains a charge from Plymouth Rock in the amount of $221.78. I have cancelled Plymouth Rock Services as of March [redacted].

My confirmation # of the cancelled transaction with Plymouth Rock is [redacted]. I spoke with [redacted] at ###-###-#### [redacted]. I cancelled the service through

representative [redacted] and he provided me with the cancellation number.

My reiembursement request is now the orignal $93, plus $95.71, plus $221.78 for a total of $410.49

Review: My husband has been receiving telemarketing phone calls from this phone company for the last month. He gets called at least twice daily. We have asked them numerous times to put us on their do not call list. We have told them we are not interested in their service and to please stop calling us. We are being harassed. During the last phone call, which was earlier today on the [redacted], I just kept telling the customer service representative to stop calling our number, and he said, "I'm going to [redacted]." I was, and still am, extremely upset and appalled, not to mention disturbed by that. What kind of a business are they running with customer service like that?? How dare someone say such a thing to a person. I'm sure these calls are recorded, so it shouldn't be too hard to find that individual.Desired Settlement: Not only do we want them to stop harassing us, and to stop calling us, but that man needs to be found so appropriate actions can be taken against him. An employee should not be allowed to speak to someone in such a way and think there are no consequences to his actions.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted]:

This is in response to your letter of July **, 2013 transmitting a Complaint (Revdex.com ID [redacted]) alleging certain inappropriate telemarketing activity by or on behalf of Plymouth Rock Energy, LLC ("Plymouth").

The Complainant is identified as [redacted] residing at [redacted], and having a daytime phone of ###-###-####. According to the information provided by the Revdex.com, [redacted] aileges that her husband has been receiving at least two telephone calls

per day from this "phone company" for the last month; her husband repeatedly advised the caller to stop making phone calls; and on July **, the caller made inappropriate comments to [redacted].

Plymouth conducts its telemarketing activity through independent third-party telemarketing vendors. We have contacted all of the telemarketers that were conducting telemarketing activities on behalf of Plymouth during the months of June and July **13 (the period mentioned in the Complaint) and informed them of the details of this Complaint. After carefully reviewing all of their call logs, each telemarketer has advised Plymouth that they did not make any outbound telemarketing calls to the [redacted] telephone number during the months of June and July 2013. In addition, it is the strict policy of Plymouth and each telemarketer that if a customer upon contact advises that it does not want to engage in any conversation, the customer's wishes are immediately honored, and if so requested, the number is placed on the internal DNC list. Moreover, addressing a customer in an inappropriate or abusive manner violates established operating policy and would be grounds for immediate dismissal from employment.

In accordance with the apparent direction from the Complainant, her telephone number of ###-###-#### has been placed on the internal Plymouth DNC List.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your courtesies in this matter.

Review: I received a bill that was three times more than my normal monthly and it was for just one month. The first call to Plymouth was last Thursday the thirteen of March but it was the end of business their time (4 0'clock central my time) but an operator took my information and told me someone would call me the next day, no one did. On Monday the seventeen of March I called again at 3:30pm my time, was told the wait time was 15-20 minutes, I was put on hold for 35 min. and then a recording saying I was calling after business hours was played and then the line disconnected. On Tuesday, March [redacted], I sent an email to their customer service department requesting a call back, got a case number but no one responded either. Finally on Wednesday, March nineteen I could finally reach a customer service representative and I asked her why my bill was so high, she told me that I had only signed up for 3 months of fixed rates and that it was over at the end of January and now the price was raised and therefore my bill was high. I told her that I was not aware of signing up for three months and that I never received neither a letter or phone call warning me about the price changes, she said that on their end they assumed a customer is fine with the rates unless the customer calls and asks about them. I told her that if I have received a letter prior to the three month "contract" telling me about the changes about to occur I would have change something or sign for continuing fixed rates. When I went back to look at my electric bills I noticed that I had two different electric companies and I remember that the City of Chicago decided to stay with Integrys energy and suddenly I was being billed by another company, this being Plymouth energy. Suddenly I remember getting a call sometime in September 2013 about "confirming" my new electric company and being offered a fixed rate of 0.05500 per kWh, I told them I was under the impression it was a done deal and Chicago had already decided and I had to do nothing if I was okay with their decision, representative told me that it was just a courtesy call to make sure the billing address and name was correct so I just had to answer if their information was correct, which it was and then we hung up and thought nothing of it. So after a few months I find out I had transfer companies by saying yes to my information already on file and no notice whether I want it to continue with their service before the contract ended and their price raise. I feel I was tricked into changing companies and then tricked again when I wasn't disclosed all the policies pertaining in a contract I wasn't aware I was in. Also, only the first bill shows their rate itemized, the next three bills after that show zeroes in their place, example 395 kWh x 0.05500 (first bill) and the next three were shown 506 kWh x 0.00000, 823 kWh x 0.00000, 707 kWh x 0.00000 and 1,183 kWh x 0.0000 respectively making it harder to know what I'm being charged.Desired Settlement: I would like to pay for the rate I had before the changes. which was 0.05500 . instead of the 0.16885 I was charge without being given the opportunity to decide whether I wanted to continue with their service or not.

Sincerely,

Review: I selected Plymouth Rock Energy as a generation source for my electric service with Jersey Central Power and Light. The reason that I choose them was because they told me that their charges for service was a savings for me. The bill kept on getting higher so I checked with [redacted] and found out that they were charging me twice as much as [redacted] charged. I have checked with Plymouth Rock in the past and they assured me that they were less expensive. I just received a delivery service charge of $157.67 on top of the already inflated customer charge. For 849 KWH that I am using this month Plymouth Rock is charging me $324.39 [redacted] would have charged me $89.00. How can an energy company take advantage of customers, and lie to them about their services. What recourse do I have?Desired Settlement: I am cancelling their services, but I can not afford to pay them this inflated charge. I would like them to charge me what we had contracted for, when I started with this company. It would be really nice if they reimbursed me the money that I have already paid them when they started inflating the KWH delivery charge.

Business

Review: I am filing this on behalf of my 84 year old mother who lives along in NJ. She does not have an email address and is hard of hearing. She was scammed over the phone by a promise of a lower electric & gas bill if she switched to Plymouth Rock Energy. In fact what happened was the reverse; both her electric and gas bill went up considerably (doubled) using this company. We have since corrected the problem but she still owes them money and now is on a payment plan in order to pay the bill. When [redacted], her former and now again her long term energy supplier was made aware of the problem, she got very little satisfaction form them over the phone (despite being a long term customer). This scam apparently happened to many elderly in this area and I want to file this formal complaint as well as ask if there is any refund she could possibly receive? She lives alone on a fixed income and this scam has hit her both emotionally as well as financially.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement for payment of over-charged electric and gas bill.Account number [redacted]

Business

Response:

Plymouth Rock Energy contacted the customer regarding this case. An amicable agreement was reached with the customer regarding the pricing issue. The customer agreed that this closes the case.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]Although I appreciate the business reaching out to my mother in this case, the fact remains that her utility bill increased instead of decreased. My mother's understanding of the deal with Plymouth Rock, when she agreed to the change, was that her utility bill would be lowered and this did not happen.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: I have Plymouth Rock account [redacted] I live in New York City. I signed up for their since 10/**/12. Their service began in November 2012. When I switched from [redacted] to PRE over the phone, PRE promised a huge savings over [redacted]. They guaranteed that over a 12-month period I would be charged 9.9 cents per KWH and save more than ever. However this proved to be a lie. There was no savings at all for these 12 months, since their bills matched OR were MORE than the same charges I had from [redacted] previously. There was no additional savings.

On the October 2013 bill, PRE rose their rates to 12.4 cents per KWH, with no notification that the rates were going up, and no customer contact other than the bill.

December the rate rose again to 14.9 cents per KWH, again with no notification. By the March *, 2014 bill the rate was 42 cents, and April, May were 38.1 cents per KWH. I have calculated that they overcharged me by $249.57.

I called Plymouth Rock and they said we signed up for "market rate" and they were charging that amount. I told them I would be contacting Revdex.com to work this out.

I have already cancelled Plymouth Rock and switched back to [redacted], since this company Plymouth Rock is clearly trying to scam customers. I read several other Revdex.com complaints which were similar to mine, and I have noted that they seem to send a refund to customers who complain, which proves to me that they are openly overcharging customers. I think they are dishonestly signing up new customers, like me, in order to overcharge themDesired Settlement: I have already cancelled PRE service. At this time, I would like to get the refund that they overcharged me of $249.57.

Review: Signed up with this company at $.09/KWH and was billed for $.42/KWH for the month of February ($844.00). When I contacted them to complain, I was told the rate increase was due to the extreme cold temperatures??? They then offered to decrease the hourly rate going forward to $.10/KWH but would not decrease the existing bill at all.Desired Settlement: I am willing to pay for the electrical usage but at the aforementioned rate - $.09/KWH.

Business

Review: I'm tired of calling and complained since March that I never wanted there services I have called them ConEdision and the Energy department that we report things to!!! I need them to refund all my money back because I didn't agree to there services! They steal from honest working people who have to struggle to pay bills and raise our children!! I wish you can help me and others who are invaded by people like this.Desired Settlement: They should return all my money from March until now it's not fare that's stealing from hard working people!!

Review: Under the deregulation rules in Pennsylvania we were permitted to select the energy supplier of our choice. After a verbal conversation over the telephone we agreed to switch our electric service to Plymouth Rock Energy. Our initial rate was approximately $0.08 per kwh. At some point during the first year we were not billed several months (the billing was processed through PECO Energy) and then were billed all at once. The rate also increased. At that point I contacted Plymouth Rock Energy and was told verbally that our rate would be no higher than $0.10 per kwh. Our last two statements the rates were in excess of $0.20 per kwh and the most recent statement at $0.38 per kwh.Desired Settlement: Plymouth Rock Energy will need to make a rate adjustment on the two billing cycles that were in excess of the $0.10 maximum rate that was verbally provided to me by their representative.

Business

Response:

Plymouth has contacted the customer and provides the following assessment. Unfortunately, a billing error occured and the customer was billed incorrectly. Review: A woman named [redacted] has called our company several times within a 3 day period; she has been directed on whom to speak to and continues to call and harass other people in the company regarding the same issue. I called the number back to remind her to whom she needs to speak and ask to have my number removed and the woman in "customer service" turned really NASTY and insisted that there is nothing they can do to remove our numbers for 30-45 days.Desired Settlement: I would like [redacted] to contact the person she was directed to and STOP calling other people within the company. Additionally, I would like their customer service woman to be told that she was terribly rude and should NEVER work in customer service with that attitude.

Review: I selected plymouth rock because they gave me a fixed price for 12 months.after the first three months they charged me more for gas and electic.the electric went from 6.9 to-11.11/11.11/12/12 and finally 14.14 the gas went from 51.00 to-77.00/83.00/83.00 to finally 77.9.these inflated prices were alot more than my local energy supplier charged(orange and rockland.for the 3 months they overcharged me they did refund me 100.00.but for july they owe me 72.19 which I have not received payment for.Desired Settlement: I want to be given the 72.19 that they owe me for the month of july.

Business

In this instance, the customer has requested that a refund in the total amount of $172.19 be provided by Plymouth. To date the amount of $100.00 was previously sent to the customer and the remaining $72.19 will be sent to the customer next week.

Review: received several phone calls from company representatives in violation of do not call list, they also used unethical tactics by claiming to be from another company and used deception in trying to obtain customer service numberDesired Settlement: please contact company to make them aware they are using unethical and illegal business practice and request they stop calling people in this manner.

Stop Contacting Me.

Business

Response:

PRE has reviewed this matter and provides the following summary.

In response to the complaint please be advised of the following, Plymouth Rock Energy operates in a matter that's compliant with the "National Do Not Call List" standards and regulations. PRE provides the telemarketing call list to our telemarketers. PRE only uses call lists which are scrubbed against the DNC registry to ensure that the calls made by the telemarketer do not include the numbers that are on the registry. A revised list is provided to the telemarketer every 30 days to ensure our list is current. In addition our script outlines and verifications have been previously submitted and accepted by the Public Service Commission. Accordingly it is the practice of Plymouth Rock Energy to conduct activities and compliance with the Do Not Call rules and in accordance with accepted marketing practices.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

Companies response is the usual and predictable denial. Does not address the fact that their representative did violate the DNC list on three occasions and owes fines for these infractions. Also does not address the fact that their representatives did use misleading and unethical tactics in marketing thier product.

Company needs to resolve issue by dropping all marketers that engage in illegal behaivor, needs to pay fines to complaintant to resolve DNC issue.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Review: I am a [redacted] customer and Plymouth Rock Energy (PRE) LLC has been billing me since October ** 2013 for supplying electricity. After the October ** 2013 bill, PRE has been charging an outrageous amount of money in addition to my bill. My telephone conversation with a representative of this company made it clear that switching to PRE would give me a “lower rate” and lower by electric bill. Indeed, their rate appeared low for that first month (October ** 2013, 1523 kWh used) when PRE charged $132.50 (electric supply only), in addition to the $88.57 charged by [redacted]. However, I was not warned of any “variable rates” or potential increases I would face after that first month. On November ** 2013, (2220 kWh used) PRE charged $193 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $121. On December ** 2013, (3572 kWh used) PRE charged $310 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $188. On January ** 2014, (4642 kWh used) PRE charged $403 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $232. On February ** 2014, (3869 kWh used) PRE charged $751 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $195. In March ** 2014, (3408 kWh used) PRE charged $617 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $171. On April ** 2014, (2101 kWh used) PRE charged $262 (electric supply only) and [redacted] charged $108. When I was ready to pay my bill which had accumulated, and noticed how much PRE had been charging me since November 2013, I called PRE and then I was made aware of the “variable rate” they had been applying after that first month (October). The representative made it clear that the accumulated amount could not be reduced by applying the rates of that first month that resulted in them billing me $132 (electric supply only). Instead, I was offered a compromise of a fixed-rate that would result in lower bills in succeeding months. I terminated my business with them after that because I did not want go through this experience again. But it is clear that these variations are very large and immensely inconsistent; take for instance the Feb ** 2014 where I have been charged $751 for just the electricity supply for using 3869 kWh, when on January ** 2014, they charged $403 for using 4643 kWh.Desired Settlement: I would like the electricity supply charges by PRE for the billing cycles, November 2013, December 2013, January 2014, February 2014, March 2014 and April 2014, to be recalculated using the rate they used in the October ** 2013 electric supply charges. I expect that the new PRE electric supply charges I should have to pay to be significantly lower (especially for the February and March 2014 bill) since the rate charged by PRE on October ** 2013 for electric supply was reasonable. I would like to be refunded of any payment I have to make to prevent interruption of electricity, that is based on PRE’s “variable rate,” and above the total due charges after revision using the October ** 2013 rate.

Sincerely,

Review: Plymouth Rock was our electricity supplier. In the past year, the KWH fee has ranged from 10.9 cents -15.9 cents. In Jan 2014 the fee was 12.7 per KWH. In Feb 2014, they charged us 35.01cents per KWH. This was beyond excessive! I researched online what other carriers charged for that same month and the average was about 15 cents. I called Plymouth Rock because I thought there was a billing error. They said no, it was correct. It has NEVER been that high, I asked why? They told me they had to project the inflation and pass along to us. I told them no other electric company charged that anywhere near that fee for that month. They said they couldn't help me. That was the fee and that's it. However, they told me they could give me a promotional rate of 10 cents for the next year. No thank you if they couldn't help me with this ridiculous bill. My bill was $232.31 the month before and the Jan bill was $471.79. I told them I would be switching providers and have locked in a new rate of .10 per KWH. I did receive one final monthly billing from them before the switch took affect and the fee is again back down to 15.6 cents. How can they get away with such a ridiculous jump for one month alone. I think they are just taking advantage of people.Desired Settlement: A credit for the inflated price per KWH.

Sincerely,

Review: On 7/**/13 I was told my 6 month contract (7.9 cents per kW and 51 cents per CCF) would be in effect from Sept 2013 thru February 2014 and to renew my contract at the end of February 2014. When I got my January 2014 bill, rates changed to higher rates. On 2/*/2014, I immediately called Plymouth Rock Energy (PRE) and they acknowledge their error and refunded me $198.16 for month of January. PRE then told me if I didn't renew my contract that the new rate would be 12.3 cents/kW and 84.7 cents/CCF once my contract expired. I found another supplier, North American Power (NAP), that offered me the same contract rates that PRE gave me from 9/2013-2/2014 (7.9 cents per kW and 51 cents per CCF) so I switched to NAP. When I viewed my February bill on line on 3/*/14, PRE charged me 35.35 cents/kW and no charges were listed for Gas. Called O&R utility they said PRE didn't post Feb gas charges yet. O&R also said rates are set by PRE and they can charge whatever they want. Due to delay in switching suppliers, PRE not only didn't charge me my contract rate they decided to impose a rate that I was never told about, and their current non-contract rate they quoted would be 12.3 cents/kW and 84.7 cents/CCF which was to go into effect for my March 2014 billing period. I didn't renew my contract with PRE as I had till March of 2014 and new supplier said my new billing should start with my March 2014 billing period. I would have elected to accept their new contract rates of 8.4 cents/kW and 65 cents/CCF for 6 months without any early termination fees but chose not as my new supplier was to pick up when my PRE contract expiredDesired Settlement: Pay the rate that I was promised. I called PRE before Thanksgiving 2013 to check on contract expiration date and I was told to call the end of Feb. 2014 which I programed into my phone. When I called on 2/*/2014, 21 days before the end of my six month contract with PRE, to complain about sudden rate change, all of a sudden I was told my contract had expired. I said how could that be, my notes from 7/**/2013 clearly state period was from 9/2013-2/2014. Please have PRE honor their contract with me (7.9 cents per kW and 51 cents per CCF) .
