Took an $800 deposit to replace windows, signed contract to complete work within 8 weeks in Jan 2020. Now May 19th and they have disappeared w/the $
This company claimed they needed an $800 deposit for me to get financed through Greensky for window replacement. I agreed and gave them a check for $800 and signed contract 1-16-2020 to get 10 windows replaced within an 8 week time frame. I also approved for them to take the first draw of money from Greensky for $4,500 which I assumed was to start the project. After this time I never heard from them again. I have reached out to the owner and he said sorry about your luck basically. Their business page on Google now says permanently closed. He basically stole $800 from me. It is now May and I still have not heard from them or received any money back. This is such a hard time for me and to think someone would just blatantly steal like this is so disheartening. Attached is copy of the original contract with Bill P.. I have now had the winows done by Home depot since I figured they wouldn't rip me off. Attached is copy of the check for $800 that they even signed "receipt for financing"

Desired Outcome

I just want my $800 back. It is so wrong to steal from people in these trying times. Have some decency.

PW&D has been installing windows and doors at my home since 4/27/18. I paid $900.00 for my master bedroom window cover and still don't have it.
Contract dated 4/27/18 to replace eight windows and one sliding door including a white hurricane screen cover (shield) for each. Bill P. was the designer. The screen cover for the master bedroom was made to wrong size and was picked up by an employee. I have not received the replacement. Invoice #. *** dated 5/1/2018. I believe all installers who came to my house were fired. On January 23, 2020 I spoke with Lori on the phone(Lori is the notary on the contract). She sent Michael who picked up the bad window cover and said he would try to make one at the St. Pete. Office. He called a week later and said he didn't have a big enough piece of material and would have it made by the company. Since the install took almost two years I assumed it would take a while - then came corona 19 - I just tried to follow up and their phone doesn't work. I looked on line and found a notice that they are permanently closed.
The windows are manufactured by :
Vinyl windows technologies inc. *** Drive. *** Ky. XXXXX
The windows are a Shoreline product and I assume the window shield is too.
I have all copies of the contracted materials. Please let me know if I need to submit any additional information.

Desired Outcome

I would love to have the job finished - window cover installed. Or Have the window cover sent to me so I can get it installed. Or Refund my money for the missing window shield.

I contracted with Practical Windows and Doors on January 24, 2020 to install Windows, took deposit of $2240. and will not respond to calls and emails.
I contracted with Practical Windows on 1/24/2020 took my check of $2,240. and cashed it on the same day: 1/24/2020. The salesman, territory Manager was Zach D., phone # XXX-XXX-XXXX. the order was for purchase of 1 Sliding Glass Door with 3 panels. The total price was $6,720. Practical was responsible for permits, demo, removal, installation , repair of Stucco and W2 installer. When I followed up by phone and emails the phones would not accept VM, website says they are out of business. Email bounded back. It would satisfy me to receive all my deposit back.

Desired Outcome

The resolution that I am seeking is my refund of $2,240.00 .

I ordered 5 windows from practical windows . I learned a few weeks ago company went out of business. They have my deposit of $3200.00 which I want
On 1/28/2020 I ordered 5 windows from their salesman Stephan H. at that time I gave him a Bank of America check#*** for $3200.00.The check was cashed by Practical windows and doors on 1/30/2020. I then learned approx. 5 weeks later that the company had closed upon trying to get an update on the windows. The salesman was not even aware company had closed. salesman went to office and found office in Pinellas park locked up. salesman gave me owner Jefferey R.'s cell phone XXX-XXX-XXXX. mailbox was full and could not even leave a message.after trying cell many times Mr. R. finally answered. I was told to call his lawyer *** at XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Desired Outcome

I believe Jefferey R. took my $3200. deposit under false pretenses and want the full deposit refunded!!!

From improper installation, unprofessional attitudes and unresponsive behavior, Practical Windows has been the worst company I've ever dealt with.
I purchased my home in September 2019 with it being contingent upon the windows being replaced by Practical Windows & Doors. One window was going to be replaced later because the wrong size was ordered. The windows passed inspection, but then in November 2019, the maintenance man and building inspector noticed that the windows were not installed correctly. At their current installation, the windows would have been screwed into plywood instead of a 2'x4'. When Practical Windows came out to replace the remaining window and install the others correctly, the weephole was placed such that it would cause water to run down my wall and cause damage. It was also noted that there was no weather proofing put in. The salesman, Bob, came out to the house and insisted the windows were installed correctly. When asked about the weather proofing, he said, well we aren't done installing the window. Bob got visibly frustrated and told the maintenance man and me that he was going to come back the next day with the building inspector and prove the windows were installed correctly. He also said "I'm not going to let some maintenance man talk to me like this" then told his crew to pack it up. My windows were screwed in, but not finished and remain so over 3 months later. It was the incredibly unprofessional. No surprise, he did not show up the next day or next week with the building inspector. I spoke with Bob who still insisted the windows were installed correctly and the maintenance man was trying to cause problems. He also said he went to the building inspector's office and the inspector said the windows were installed correctly. He said he would call me on Monday (the next business day) and would come to my house and explain how the windows were installed to manufacturer's specifications. I never heard from Bob again.
In early January, I went to the building inspector's office and asked that the supervisor come check the windows. A week or so later, he came out and agreed the windows were installed incorrectly and said he was opening the permit back up (which should have been done anyway since Practical Windows still had to install the remaining window). He said he could not see any way that the windows wouldn't leak and called Practical Windows to tell them. He said that Practical Windows needed to install fin windows. A few moments later, the owner of Practical Windows, Jeff, called and said he was on his way. After a dialogue with the building inspector, Jeff agreed to replace the windows - they should have been fin windows, not the flange or framed windows they installed. Four weeks passed and numerous unanswered phone calls to Practical Windows, and after I incessantly called them 50 times one day, they finally responded and said that they were going to order the fin frame and put the glass from my current windows into that frame. I had an attorney write a letter to Practical Windows asking to inform me when they were going to order the new windows, when they expected them to arrive and when they expected them to be installed. I finally spoke with a woman in their office who was rather helpful (unfortunately I forgot her name) and she said that she was speaking with the manufacturer and they were working on the order. This was over three (3) weeks ago. Since then I have tried calling them to find out if there is a date when they expect them in, but all my phone calls go unanswered and their voice mail is full. I have also asked if the glass on one of my bathroom windows could be changed to frosted, and still don't know how much that is going to cost, if they ordered it or what is going on. All totaled, this has been going on for 4.5 months (as of March 10). From improper installation, unprofessional attitudes and unresponsive behavior, this company has been the worst company I've ever dealt with. It would be one thing if they were just unprofessional, but they installed the WRONG WINDOWS and they are a window installation company?

Desired Outcome

Finish the job in a timely manner, report weekly status, answer phone calls, install the proper windows, act professionally.

I I order windows 12/9/19
And pay 50% deposit 1.900,00, The salesman told 2 mounts time to get the windows, Now it has been 3 months No answer
Now they don't answer in phone or e-mail.

Desired Outcome

Get refund of my deposit of 1.900,00

Order windows 3 mounts ago 12/9/2019 from Practical windows & Doors Inc and pay deposit of 1.900,00, Salesman told max 2 mounts delivery, Now they don't answer phone or e-mail.

One terrible experience after another.
I ordered some doors and windows 7 weeks ago for my new build, and after reaching out to them many times for updates, which they gave me updates to the delivery, and when the delivery date rolled around, they tell me they failed to order the doors and windows. Completely unacceptable. Not only that, they didn't seem to care that this had happened. My project is now 2 mos behind because of this company. Unbelievable.

So then I'm told the owner, Jeff, will be back from vacation next week and that he will get it all taken care of. He finally calls me back after many calls and says he will come by in 45 mins to review the measurements. He then calls me back 10 mins later and has the gaul to say they cant complete my order. And when I asked why, he did not have an answer, but just that they could not order them. Completely unacceptable. They ended up giving me my money back eventually, but not until another week or so went by and made me jump thru more hoops to get it. I don't know what's going on with this company, but I have never been more frustrated with a company in my life. Go anywhere for your doors and windows but here. They are having major problems here, avoid the frustration

Practical Windows and Doors took my deposit check on Nov 30, 2019 and cashed it on Dec 3, 2019. They will not return messages / answer phone calls.
Practical Windows and Doors took my deposit check on Nov 30, 2019 and cashed it on Dec 3, 2019. They will not return phone calls and have not set up my installation. I was told the job would be 6-8 weeks. First, my salesman Bill P. failed to schedule measurements to be taken so it wasn't until Jan 6, 2020 that it finally happened, after several phone calls. Was told by the person who did the measurements that since I ordered non-impact doors, they should be in in 10 days. Bill P. called me on Jan 24, 2010 to say the doors were in and someone would call to schedule installation. Before Jan 24 and after, Bill will not take my calls or return my messages. His customer service throughout this process leaves a lot to be desired. How do you sell an expensive item and not follow up???? I've spoken to Melany in the office and was assured I would receive better service. Which I agreed to give her a chance, since their GM Bob up and quit. Well, it has been another 2 weeks and nothing. I did speak with another Melanie on Feb 6 that said she would go in the back to see if my doors were in and would call me back. Still waiting for a call back and it is now Feb 13. Have been calling every day and no one answers the phone most days. Either my doors are there or they are not. It shouldn't be this difficult. At this point I just want a refund and nothing more to do with this company. Didn't want to write a make a complaint, but have been given no other options.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of my deposit in the amount of $2,327.00

They said they will process the refund.

Customer Response • Mar 04, 2020

I have not been able to get in contact with this company to find out when my refund will be issued. I look them up on google and now their location shows as permanently closed. What do I do now?

Do your due diligence. Read the reviews. Avoid the frustration that I and so many others have suffered with this company. Take your business elsewhere.

Last month we installed this customers entry door. After we finished her job, she decided to order a storm door from us. It takes a week or two to process the order, remeasure it and place the order. This is a special order door (not in stock) and it is on order.
We look forward to installing her new storm door.

Customer Response • Feb 26, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Contract signed November 15, 2019 states: Customer will purchase storm door. We will install. Price of outer door includes wording next to total amount: plus cost of storm door
This cost to be determined after I chose door from Home Depot website per instructed by General Manager at the time, Bob A. as the business has an account there.
Emailed 2 choices on December 9, 2019 as instructed. Did not get a confirming reply per request.
February 5, 2020 Lori emailed me a photo of the door stating: This is the door that Bob got for you. @4:19 pm
I replied on Feb 6, 2020, 9:56 AM Did not receive a reply.
Called business on February 7, 2020 around 11:30 am.
Per instructions from Melanie, emailed her on Feb 7, 2020, 11:55 AM: I paid $1,580.00 on January 9, 2020. Check cleared on January 13, 2020 Check # XXXXX.
attached is the Emco door from Home Depot.
I was called back by Melanie on 2/7/2020 at 11:40 am (instructing me to email), 12:11 pm, and 12:12 pm after she confirmed door was an EMCO and it was on the premises at that time and that date.
Melanie said they would straighten things out and be able to install door possibly 2/13.
Was told Lori would be back on 2/11 and call me re: install.
No further contact from Practical Windows. No emails or returned messages as of 2/12/20204 pm
Since February 12, I have left 4 voice mails and one email through the company's website with no reply.

Mr. R. contends I decided after the main door was installed "last month" to order a storm door.
The contract signed on November 19 states: storm door to be ordered, contradicting his claim.
The front door was installed in December. The additional work was done on the back door January 9, 2020.
He states the door is on order(?) and takes two weeks. Two weeks from when?
I was previously told by Melanie the door was on the business premises and would be installed around February 13, 2020.
My check for the front door and storm door cleared January 13, 2020.
As of today, I have no door, no refund, no update on delivery and installation, and no replies from the business.

Have received no calls to date (March 18) from this business. Can no longer leave voice mail at business phone as "it is full" and taking no messages. Would like my #330.00 refunded. This business has kept my money for two months and provided no door to me.
I have received phone records from my provider to prove I called this business nine (9) times between Feb 11 and Feb 26 as requested by Bank of America. Perhaps they can get me a refund for the storm door.
This business owner refuses to meet the terms of our contract and is holding money for services he did not provide.

We have been waiting on a repair for over 6 months. We have called multiple times and have not received any call backs or updates!!
We waited for a repair for over 6 months. They came out a few months ago with the wrong glass so now we are back to waiting. We have called multiple times and have not received any call backs or updates. Now we have another one broken. It's clear that there must be a manufacturers flaw with our blinds. We even had the manufacture & Practical Windows & Doors employee come out to look with and at that time they agreed a replacement was needed.

Desired Outcome

We would like the 2 windows that are broken repaired in a timely manor or all of them replaced with new product since this has been ongoing since they have been installed. At the least, a call back and/or updates on status would be nice.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Feb 25, 2020

Contact Name and Title: Jeff R.
I think our customer is talking about her French Doors. We did install several French Doors doors in her home 5 or 6 years ago. These doors are full view glass with blinds between the glass. The problem was a few weeks after the initial install the blinds had issues with the controller that moves the blinds up and down. This rarely happens but the product is warranted by the distributor for 5 years. We came out and made a report and the glass unit(s) with the faulty blinds were replaced. A little time went by and she called again and said she was experiencing the same problem. Again we went out and replaced the unit (s) again. I asked the customer if maybe her two small children were playing with the blinds and she assured me that they were not. This kept repeating itself. Since 2015, the distributor has replaced glass units in her house due to faulty blinds 4 times. This request is number 5.. I can process this request but the product is out of warranty so the distributor will prorate the cost and charge the customer. I'll advise the customer of the cost of the unit and our labor cost to install.

Customer Response • Mar 05, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Our french doors were installed 12/31/2015 or just over 4 years ago (I know this specific date as my family spent Christmas with a black tarp and open wall on the house due to order delays). Jeff did ask if my children perhaps were at fault. My children were 4 and 2, not tall enough to reach the controllers, not to mention, strong enough to move them. I myself still have to move them by using two hands (harder than I would have ever expected for blinds inside glass). Most of the blinds are still tough to open. I would welcome Jeff over to take try it out and experience the tension of the slider. I at wonder at this point, would this be considered a manufacturers defect. We do use our blinds daily and I'm not sure how we are "misusing" an up and down mechanism.

Two of the five requests for replacements were due to broken strings in the blinds not the controller and hardly out of my control. We currently have 2 broken blinds one of which has again a broken string and the other a stuck blind in the track, as well as, a broken controller (not fixable as I was told by another window installer who came out to inspect when PW&D refused to respond to us).

Furthermore, Jeff sent out another supplier/distributor, 2 years ago after the 2nd or 3rd issue, to verify our complaint. This gentleman concluded the window be replaced and was shocked at how hard it was to move the magnetic controller and that he was surprised at our unfortunately experience. The broken blind was eventually replaced.

When Practical Window & Doors finally brought out a replacement for the most recent repair (3 months after the initial request in Oct of 2019) they were the incorrect profile. Since then, we have heard nothing about the next steps, and when calling the business number, no one answers and their voicemail is full. My husband has even called the cell phone of the person Jeff told him was running the business. He has not only never called him back, but has not even acknowledge the call or text or had anyone from the business respond.

Lastly, we were told by Jeff on multiple occasions, dating back to the first purchase, and even after the initial service calls, the product had a "lifetime warranty". To read a "5-year" warranty in the above response is quite alarming. We spent over $16,000 and are extremely disappointed with the product and service. We also recently found out the glass is manufactured by a separate company from the doors, but none of our original paperwork mention this. Therefore, we are unable to contact them directly for any resolve.

At this point, we just want the two blinds fixed and a contact to someone who actually responds to our calls and cares about the customer after the initial install.

The continued lack of customer service issues initiated by their mistakes, to an unreasonable threat of placing a lean on my home.
On 5.31.19, signed a contract for 10 windows to be installed into my home, with sales rep Jessica C. The contract was signed and financing was made available with 3 withdraws to be made, deposit, delivery of product and completion. The product was delivered and work commenced on Aug. 7, 2019. This process took three days. Aug 9, 2019 the crew chief says the hurricane covers don't fit the windows, I pointed out at this time that the obscure window was put in the wrong place, it was placed in the utility room instead of the bathroom. The crew chief said that they would be back on 8.10.19 to re-measure the outside of the windows, they did not show up to complete this task.On 8.9.19 I called the office and spoke with Bob, who informed me that the covers would arrive in 2 weeks, we agreed at this time to wait the 2 weeks before having the windows corrected. Aug 23,2019 I called the office spoke with Bob who said they have the measurements it will be in next Friday, I did not receive a call. Sept 4,2019, I see the contractors at my house taking measurements of my windows, they did not call to inform or even knock on the door when they arrived, they were sneaking in to get the measurements. I immediately call the office and get Bob , I informed him that sneaking up to my house to take measurements after telling me 4 weeks before that everything was already set and that this was unacceptable, again pushing off the issue about the bathroom window, and again he said they would be in on Friday 9.13.19. Friday comes and goes no phone call, Weds 9.18.19 in office asked about the windows, they never liked to return phone calls, I was told by Bob they aren't here yet and I responded I know they will be here on Friday and left the office. Sept 25, 2019 different contractors showed up at my house with the Hurricane covers for the house, again, no call to inform me someone would be at my house. They were also unaware that the window needed to replace my bathroom window. The first contractors said that it needed to be a whole new window, but this crew just changed them out, after I called and complained to Jeff R., the General Manager, that the contractors had no clue about the window, they completed the work, except for 2 pieces of new molding they were supposed to put around 2 of the windows, which they did not replace, but put the old molding around the new windows. The inspection was set up for 9.30.19, if failed because of the bathroom window. On 9.27.19 I receive a call from Bob asking me to sign the paperwork that the job was completed so they could get the last payment from the finance company, I refused as the job was incomplete and they overcharged me on the paperwork stating what I owed. The reason they requested the paperwork is because they had a deadline with the lender of 10.01.19. I was informed my window would be on Friday 10.11.19, on 10.15.19 I went back to their office where things got loud as I was speaking to Bob, Jeff comes says we need to keep it down, Bob at this point started approaching me, I let Jeff know that I am feeling threatened and backed up toward the door, Bob still coming towards me I called out that he was still coming at me, I got out the door pushing it closed on a person and left the business. 10.23.19 *** co signer on the contract called and asked to speak to Jeff, the met on Oct 23 at their office. Jeff started saying untruths and she called me from the meeting. Jeff got up from his desk and said "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS", at which time *** was informed the window would be here on 11.4.19. The date came, no calls from the company until 11.14.19, they left a voicemail stating the window was in to call back. I did not call at this time. On 11.21.19, We received a notice that they were putting a lein on the house, it was signed on 11.19.19,after they left 1 message. I am being bullied by this company over their own inability to perform their services professionally

Desired Outcome

I do not wish to have these people on my premises, as we do not trust them. We also do not feel we should pay the last installment of the loan as they did not complete the work. They have, since their mistakes, they have not been professional at all, using lies, ignoring and bullying tactics.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Dec 08, 2019

Mr., in response to the Revdex.com complaint ***, it is unfortunate that there has been some miscommunication and errors during your project. We are a growing company that has recently added on staff and new management to assist in all departments; with a goal of better customer service and quality control. I do understand your frustration and can assure you that it is our goal to make you happy and correct the bathroom window and complete plugs and trim work. You are right that the hurricane shields did come in the wrong size, which we corrected, and that the bathroom and utility room windows were somehow swapped during install. This is a problem that can occur in any window replacement project when windows are the same size. We did correct this issue as well; however, a new issue arose. When the inspector came out, they said that the bathroom window needed to be tempered. We immediately ordered the tempered sashes for your project and have been trying to coordinate with you to get them in. When you stopped by the office, rightfully upset, you were speaking very loud as the staff was on the phone, the general manager hears a loud voice and asked that it was lowered. You mentioned in your complaint that you felt threatened by a gentleman in the office, this gentleman was merely walking up front from his office to assist you. We are and have been attempting to fix and finish the work needed at your property, but if we are unable to communicate or enter your property, we are unable to solve the problem. We ask that you allow us to fix the issues that you have had and that you pay for the project that you have received as agreed upon.

Customer Response • Dec 13, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
To whom it *** concern:
I understand the plights of a growing business and although some of the issues set forth could be explained by this excuse not all can be overlooked.
The issue with the windows was stated before the contractor left the job site. He informed at this time that they were different sizes and since it is a bathroom window it would need to be reordered for a correct fit, they cannot just be switched. With the information given me at the time, I spoke to the office manager, and agreed that it would be ok for 2 weeks. This did not happen and although repeatedly informing about the bathroom window your company kept deflecting back to the Hurricane covers, which were never the issue. This is when the office manager informed me that we have all the measurements and are good to go. Now four weeks after the initial issue was discovered, and the lies started to come to the surface, the contractors show up at my house to re-measure the windows. I was not informed by anyone that they would be at my house and to compound it they never even knocked on the door to inform us what they were doing. This is unacceptable and cannot be explained away by growing pains. It definitely gives the impression you are being shady and informed the office of this. Two and a half weeks go by and a new set of contractors show up at the house to install the hurricane covers, again, no phone call or warning that someone is coming to the house to do the work. They also had no knowledge of the bathroom window. I called the office and spoke with the GM who I informed that this happened again, people showing up at the house without being informed and that they still knew nothing about the window. He said that the contractors are there and that they will fix it. Which they did, to my surprise, just switched out the 2 incorrect windows. This is not how it was explained to me by the original contractors. If this was the case, I should not have agreed to wait all this time. I waited 7 weeks using my bathroom in the dark so the neighbors could not see in, which could be done very easily. The next day the GM stops by the house to inspect the work and to give me the final paperwork to sign. In this inspection I explained the molding on the front windows, how the contractors put up the old molding and did not put up new molding to match the rest of the windows. He inspected the molding and agreed to have it replaced.
The next day we failed inspection over the bathroom window not being tempered glass. I received a phone call from the office manager who asked me to sign the completed forms and bring them into the office. I refused because I did not feel the job was complete, the final payment was incorrect by $1000.00. He wanted me to say it was complete because of the deadline set by the lender, so they could be paid without increased paperwork. I did not sign the papers as complete mostly due to their track record of service. This is not a growing pains problem it is shady business. Then I was informed that the window would be in 2 weeks.
I proceeded to their office after 2 1/2 weeks of not hearing from them again, this is when the voices did get raised in the office. I do disagree with the GM's statement that the office manager was coming out of his office, when I entered the office he was standing in the hallway at the door. That is when the discussion started. When the GM came out from the back he said to quiet down, they couldn't hear on the phone. This is when the office manager starting his approach, although making it clear that I was uncomfortable he continued to come towards me. This is when I left the building having to push the door closed on someone, I was followed to the parking lot by the GM, who pleaded with me to stop, I left the premises to defuse the situation.
The Co -owner on the contract set up a meeting with the GM, during this meeting I stayed out as to not bring my negativity to the meeting, she called me from inside stating he his saying that I agreed to be charged for the molding on the 2 front windows. She called me and informed me of this bold lie and I did get heated. T his is when the GM gets up and says "I don't have time for this, and stated your window will be in Nov. 4th.
Nov 14th your office manager called and left a message that the window is in and to call to arrange the install. 3 business days later your company filed for a lien on my property stating after multiple attempts, 1message is not multiple attempts, I received the notice on Nov 21st. The instructions were to contact the office within 5 business days, which I did attempt on Nov 27th, but was unsuccessful and unable to leave a message due to your voicemail box was full. Not taking into account in this time line that we are approaching the Thanksgiving Holiday and my waiting over 3 months, you have the audacity to file the lien the way that you did. This is an absolute bullying technique that was the final straw to this endeavor. This final action cannot be explained away by the growing pains excuse. The fact and mere haste in which you applied for a lien to be levied on my property, after all the inconsistencies that came out of every communications with your representatives, there is no possible way would allow them back on my property.

This customer states that they don't want to make final payment because we haven't finished the job. The truth is that they don't want to let us finish the job because they don't want to make final payment. Finishing the job only involves swapping out a non-tempered sash for the tempered sash that we have in our warehouse. It's a task that takes less than a minute without the use of any tools. The City of Pinellas Park has verified that we have the tempered sash and has closed out the permit because they know we have done all we can do to rectify the situation and the homeowner is preventing us from swapping out the sash. In an effort to make the homeowner more comfortable, I will send our serviceman with the sash to the home with the City of Pinellas Park Building Indpector. I would think this would make the homeowner more comfortable. The task of swapping out the sash takes less than 1 minute and everyone should be happy.
I've enclosed a few pics of the job. It came out beautiful.

I would have gladly paid for a finished product until the events leading up to that completion. Outside the fact you finally called and left a voicemail 10 days after you said the window would be in and because I did not return your call within 3 days you file a lein on my property. Look at your own business practices as to why you are not receiving said monies.

We replaced our old, flimsy back door with a new, impact rated door to complete our hurricane prep. in our eighty year old bungalow in St Petersburg.

Practical Windows and Doors provided the best sales and support while the installation was completed with outstanding craftsmanship. And we got the new doggie door too! Thanks to all involved who made this project affordable, beautiful and functional!

I was surprised by this review as this job was done years ago. Yes, we did have to take our customer court in order to get our agreed upon payment.
Our customer had alleged that in replacing her windows we damaged areas around the windows. Our installers noticed the pre-existing damage and took pictures of each and every window before the installation so that they wouldn't be blamed for causing the damage. Nevertheless, even though we had the pictures to prove that we didn't cause the damage our customer still blamed us and refused to pay. So, we wound up in court. In court our customers allegations were found to be baseless and our customer agreed to pay us.

As for the remainder of the review, with the exception of the son saying that his mother had passed, every other allegation is completely not true. Had any of these preposterous allegations occurred I'm sure that they would have been brought up in court. None of them were because they never existed.

why is this company writing to me that man caused so much damage to my mom I now don't have a mom that man threaten my life and my mom's but because he had his lawyer threaten me that was ok my mom is gone so that man better never talk *** about my mom again he is a lier, a thief he destroyed my mom's house when she was alive he came threw my front door and put his hands on my mom he's lucky I didn't call the police on him that man and his company needs to be investigated I will keep filing complaints against him for what he did to my mom he had no right bringing her up thank god I don't live in florida anymore or I take him to court for bashing my mom !!!!!!!!!!

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Sep 25, 2019

This review, by the son of our customer, is absurd. I completely deny any of the ridiculous allegations made in this review. After the job was completed, inspected, and closed out by the building department we wound up in court with our customer because the customer was not able to pay for her windows. In court, our customer brought up no other reasons for not paying other than she couldn't afford to pay. Had we harmed her house in any way, or certainly had destroyed the house, those would have been valid defenses. for not paying and certainly she would have brought them up. She was an honest lady and said the only reason she wasn't paying is that she couldn't afford to pay.

The son of our customer filed this same complaint years ago with the Revdex.com, the PCCLB, and others. Every single allegation the son filed was found to be untrue then, and they're certainly untrue now. Since that complaint years ago, we've never heard anything else, until now.

The Revdex.com should have a record of his earlier complaint. This is the same complaint, on the same job, done years ago. We have not interacted with our customer or her son since then.

17 months later I still don't have my windows and door installed.
I purchased windows on March 22, 2018. At the time the salesman told me the windows should be installed in about ten weeks. Seventeen months later to the day, I have yet to receive my windows. In April of 2019, installers began the installation. Based on my belief that Practical Windows and Doors would satisfactorily fulfill the terms of my purchase contract, I purchased a front door on April 17, 2019, to be installed again in about ten weeks. Turns out, the window order was incomplete and incorrect. Some windows were the wrong size; others partially frosted, or never ordered, and had to be re-ordered. The excuses have been many... On August 15th, I was told installers would be here today August 23 to finish my install. When I called the office this morning to confirm installation, I was told they would call me back. I received a text message later from the GM Bob A. saying he was in a doctor's appointment and would let me know what's going on when he's done. I have heard all this one to many times. After 17 months I have treated been treated so poorly, it's amazing to me companies get away with such poor service.would call me back. Desired Outcome

First I want my windows and doors installed ASAP. Second, I want to be reimbursed for my inconvenience. Many times I have been told crews are going to show up and they don't. I have been told they'll call me back and they don't. My time is worth something. I'm seeking a $2000 discount for my inconvenience. Lastly, I want Practical Windows and Doors Inc.'s Revdex.com rating changed to reflect on how they do business. This is not fair for them to make false claims about their rating.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Aug 30, 2019

I am sorry Mr. is unhappy, however, there is more to this than the customer is stating.
Mr. did order his windows on 3/22/18. It takes a few weeks to process the order which includes sending a measure man out to engineer the job, then formulate and send in the order to the manufacturer, and finally go over the manufacturers version of the order. Then we sign off on it and the manufacturer releases the order for production.
Mr. windows were bronze colored on the outside and white on the inside. These have a longer lead time than white windows which themselves had long lead times because of Hurricane Irma.
Mr. windows arrived at our location in late August of 2018. They sat in our warehouse for over a year because we could not contact Mr.. For whatever the reason, Mr. didn't return our calls until late March of 2019. We installed his windows in June of 2019. One of his bathroom windows came in with clear glass instead of frosted glass. We have had his replacement glass for some time now.
After his windows were installed Mr. ordered a door with designer glass. We received the door and the glass was cracked.
The replacement glass is due in now. Mr. wont let us install his bathroom glass until we install the door.
I will contact Mr. and see if we can coordinate the completion of his job.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Practical Windows and Doors (PWD) came out on March 27th, 2019 to install my windows. They brought 4 of the 9 windows we purchase - 1 of which was a clear window for a bathroom, still waiting on that one. They returned the next day with the remaining windows, but realized at that time they didn't fit. So, PWD remeasured and reordered, as a "rush" order. Those windows came in the third week of May. After multiple attempts on my part to contact PWD, we scheduled to install the remainder of the windows and the door that was purchased in April on June 5th. My wife had to take off work to accomodate their schedule and be home at the appointment time. Several hours late, one installer arrived and knew nothing about the door to be installed. He was only able to fix the dining room window (the wrong type of window was installed in March) before he left for the day. The installer left us with the impression he would return the next day to complete the job. That never happened. After more attempts to contact PWD, we were once again scheduled for June 25th. I called PWD to confirm the appointment, and was told there was an accident in the warehouse and the glass in my door had been broken. They would reorder the glass, i.e. "rush order"... When they showed up to install the windows, which had been reordered because they didn't fit, they had ordered a clear window for the second bathroom window. I spoke with PWD on Thursday the 15th of August, was told my windows and the glass for the door had arrived and were ready to be installed. Set an appointment for Friday the 23rd of August. That morning I called to find out what time I should expect the installers. I received a text from the GM saying " I am at the Dr office. Lorie called me and said some crews have yet to show up. Once I get out of here, I will let you know what is going on. Sorry for the delay." I'm still waiting for that call. To be clear, Practical Windows and Doors doesn't do what they say they are going to do, and they lied, "Mr. won't let us install his bathroom glass until we install the door." They showed up on June 25th to install 2 windows, which were ordered incorrectly. They had clear glass for a bathroom window. So, I always would allow them to install the windows without the door. Since it has been almost 5 months since the door was purchased and had arrived at the warehouse in May, I think it's reasonable to expect an installation in a timelier manner. In their response to the Revdex.com complaint on August 30, PWD indicated they would contact me to coordinate the completion of the job. One week later, I still have not been contacted. That is why I am requesting compensation for the delays and the time I have spent putting up with Practical Windows and Door's, Inc. Also, they don't deserve an A+ rating at the Revdex.com.

It's been one month since I filed my complaint and this is where we stand. I met with the President of Practical Windows and Doors twice since my last correspondence. Nothing has changed. Last week, a crew showed up at my door unannounced with a trailer of windows and a door. Fortunately, I was home. At that time, they determined they ordered the wrong size front door, and left without installing anything. The door was marked as having been received May 30th by PWD. I have not heard from anyone since.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Sep 25, 2019

I met with Mr. 2 times in the last 2 weeks. Mr. has an entrance door that we brought out last week to install. It was an inch or so too tall.
We have the right height door now and can install it at any time. Mr. prefers to wait until 2 other items come in so we can install it at any time. Mr.s 2 remaining re-makes will be here in 3 weeks. At that time we will go out and complete the job.

This job has taken quite a while since the customers initial order in March of 2018. We ordered his windows and they arrived in our warehouse in *** of 2018. They sat in our warehouse for over a year. We were unable to reach Mr. to coordinate the installation. During that time (almost a year) Mr. never called us to check on his order or ask when it was going to be installed. I don't have any idea of why we couldn't contact Mr. and even less of why Mr. didn't call us. Needless to say that when he did call we were very happy to hear from him.

Contractor installed hurricane window coverings in a manner that did not conform to manufacturer's drawing specifications on some windows.
On 5/14/19, we signed a contract with Practical Windows and Doors for installation of custom-made hurricane window coverings for the agreed-upon price of $2500 to be paid upon completion. On 7/17, they installed the window coverings. We notified them that some of the coverings were attached with grommits at top, and others with them on the sides. The manufacturer's specs which are indicated on the installation instructions were followed. When I discussed the problem with the contractor, he told me he wanted happy customers and that he would be out within a week to correct the problem. Once the check cleared, I never heard from him again. I called the manufacturer, Custom Hurricane Products, and spoke with Wayne, the manager who told me he would call them. I never heard from either of them again. I was told there were five other contractors in the area that worked for him and I told him that he should be more careful with those he allows to install his product. The Building Inspector who did the permit inspection approved the permit, but did say it was not consistently installs. He said all he needed to approve was the grommits, not the way the coverings were installed. The job is not done according the manufacturer specifications and I am concerned that it will affect the outcome during a hurricane with no side protection which is direction the winds will likely come from.

Desired Outcome

Contractor should come back and install the coverings according to the manufacturer specifications. The contractor told me he would do this within the week.

FAbric Shields are a very effective means of protecting your window openings from being blown open during a storm. All fabric shield products require a Florida Approval. To get a Florida Approval number the product must pass a series of rigorous tests to insure the product meets the demands of the Florida Building Code. The Florida Approval for a particular product includes a lot of detail, including the detail of how the product must be installed.
This product in many locals requires a building permit. The permit contains all the required information on the product. The page of the Fl Approval the building inspector uses to inspect the installation of the shields is the page that contains the approved installation instructions. In this case they specify the number and location of the fasteners that attach the product to the home, the type of fastener, and the spacing between fasteners. This is exactly what the building inspector checks for when he makes his inspection. He checks for other things as well, but the fasteners are his primary concern. As our customer points out, our final inspection passed *** means all the shields.
Then why do we have a customer complaint? Our customer is confused as to how shields work and why we only have fasteners on 2 sides of the shield; either on the top and bottom or the sides. As an example, if we have a shield protecting a window opening that is fastened with a row of fasteners on the top and bottom he's complaining that we don't have fasteners going up and down on each side of the window opening too.
He's not the only customer that's asked that question. The answer is that the manufacturers installation instructions approved by the State of Florida are what we follow and what the build inspector checks. The shields are designed, tested and approved to prevent a window opening from being blown out in a storm and letting hurricane force winds enter until the internal house pressure blows the roof off and totals the house. As I stated, you are allowed by code of installing the shields one of 2 ways, either having 2 rows of fasteners going up and down or rows going side to side. Either choice works.
Our customer is concerned that if we have 2 sides of the shield unattached that he will not be protected.
We've tried to explain that the shields are installed correctly. The shields are not designed to prevent wind from coming behind the shield on the 2 sides without fasteners. They're designed to keep hurricane force winds out of your house. They will not let extremely strong winds blowing at the house from getting into the house. Any wind that blows behind the shield from one side is going to exit the shield on the other side. Again, these product were tested in extreme conditions, with very strong winds. Our customer is struggling to understand why 2 sides are not fastened down, thus the complaint. We will make every effort to help him understand.

The vendor did come out to make the agreed-upon revisions to add fasteners per the manufacturer's advertisement. It took a long time for this to be done. It is now complete. I would not recommend this vendor because of his poor communications by not returning calls and by not keeping appointments made. We don't agree that the haphazard method of installation was according to the manufacturer's drawings. Nonetheless, the job is now complete.

We installed our customers shields in a professional and timely manner. Going back to day 1 when we sold our customer his shield, our customer called us on day 2 asking if we were on our way to install his new custom manufactured storm shields. At the time of the sale as well as the day after the sale, we told him lead time was approximately 4 weeks.

After that his calls continued, almost every day and sometimes more than 1 a day.

We installed his initial order professionally and perfectly according to the building inspector. However our customer wanted for us to install them a different way. We did as he asked and charged him no more for it.

In between our processing of his new shields and receiving them, our customer continued to call us almost every day. On the days when it was raining and that we had to postpone the service (power tools are dangerous when wet), our customer would call us saying that the rain had just stopped at his house so could we come right out?

The quantity of calls from our customer made it difficult to deal with, but we did.

I'm very glad this job is done and came out well and that our customer agrees that it is done. I wish him the best.

Susan S. contacted me regarding my case and told me if I had any more problems, I should contact her. Practical Windows has made two appointments to come out and complete the job and have not done so. I was told that the technician had not received instructions from his boss to come out to my house to come out to my house between 10-11 today to complete the job. I called around noon and asked why they could not let me know if they are going to be late. Turns out that not only was he late, he didn't even know he was supposed to be here. My problem remains on the incomplete job.

We have Mr. products but it's been raining all week.
We are all frustrated not being able to install anything on the exterior of a house unless it's under cover. It's been raining all week.
We use electrical power tools that are dangerous to use when wet. We had an appointment yesterday (Thursday 8/15/19) to deliver and complete the installation. Unfortunate we were rained out. I understand Bob A. called and spoke with Mr. and told him we would not be coming due to the rain.
We want this finished too and as soon as it stops raining we will be out there. It's been a bummer this week.

They have never called back. There is a tropical storm that might be heading our way. I do not want them to come out and complete this job. I just want to leave the record as job incomplete. I don't recommend them for anyone else to use.

Mr. original installation was done to the manufacturers installation instruction's as outlined in the State of Florida Product Approval Website. Furthermore Mr. initial installation (prior to his complaint)
was inspected by the Building Department to make sure it was installed correctly and per code. It passed.

Mr. has erroneously claimed that his shields werent installed properly. They were. However, in the interest of the customer relations we reinstalled them as he wanted. This is now complete.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Sep 23, 2019

This has been closed out. We installed new shields side to side to make customer happy.

Worse company ever!! Never on time!!!

RUN from this company. It took Practical Windows & Doors over 1 year to properly install 10 windows, 1 sliding glass door and 2 exterior doors. My husband and I approved the quote and final measurement were taken April 2018, the job was not completed until June 2019. It was a nightmare. During the 1-1/2 year long fiasco they forgot to order some of the windows with the original order, installed a sliding glass door made from regular tempered glass when we paid for hurricane rated (they tried to tell us that's what we ordered... so ordering all the other windows in the house in hurricane glass but not the sliding glass door makes sense to these "professionals"), windows cracked due to improper installation, they installed glass with many obvious defects resulting in multiple remakes, multiple failed county inspections, sooooo many unreturned messages and we lost track of how many dates they just no-showed on scheduled installs. In addition to all this when, when we were about 6 months into the job we begged the owner to either finish the job asap or cut some money off of the $18k invoice (2/3 of which had been paid for at this point) and we told him we were not paying another penny until the work was finished. Due to the amount of time we had to take off from work, we felt we were owed something for our trouble. The owner's response was to file a lien on our house! The letter he sent notifying us of the lien actually said PW&D was about to run out of time for filling a lien due to the length of time the job had gone on, so he felt this had to be done to protect himself. Keep in mind the job was not finished, that took another 8 months from the time the lien was filed. This forced us to pay for the job in full before it was completed. We went through 5 general managers, used all our vacation days, called a liar by the receptionist and was told by the glass manufacture's rep (ViWinnTech) that we were "problem customers who just needed to pay our bill and stop complaining". There is not one positive thing I can say. We even waited a week from when the job finally finished before posting this bad review, just to give them the opportunity to call or text or email and apologize - something, anything. Nope, not even the decency to do that one simple thing. Literally any other window company would have done a better job.

Practical Windows & Doors Response • Jul 03, 2019

I very much disagree with this negative review.

The former customer states that her reason for writing this extremely negative review is that at the end of the project, which she states took a year and a half, we didn't call to apologize.

This customers project, from start to finish took 6 months. It did not take a year and a half. The project's contract was signed March 16, 2018 and the building permit had the final inspection on September 17, 2018 and was closed; 6 months. This is public record.

Much of the 6 month period was our waiting for product to arrive, which can be frustrating for everyone. After the hurricane the lead time for storm protection products increased dramatically.

During the construction We encountered and addressed the following (3) issues quickly and professionally.

1). Glass of (2) windows cracked during install.
2). The sliding glass door was delivered with non impact glass and should have been impact.
3). A new window that should have been delivered with the original delivery was backordered.

The (2) windows with the crack in the glass were installed pending the delivery of and reinstallation of (2) new windows. Although the glass had a crack there was no danger of leaks because the pane of glass that broke was the sacrificial glass designed to break but protect upon impact. The sliding glass door was installed and the glass panels swapped out when the new impact glass was delivered. The backordered window was installed when it came in. Issue #1 required an additional 2 hour install, Issue #2 required just swapping out the glass panel, not a reinstall. Issue number 3 required no additional work as it was just a delayed install because of the backorder and it's manufacturer.

All three issues were handled as promptly as possible and professionally and those were the only issues that came up from the beginning of the job to final inspection.

Over the many years we've been in business, we've tried to exceed our customers expectations and tried to do likewise with this customer. Sometimes real problems do occur during projects such as windows or doors may leak water when it rains or sometimes a product may not lock properly causing safety concerns or sometimes products don't work or fit as they should and sometimes openings might need to be boarded up. Real problems like these happen rarely, but none of them occurred on this job.

Our project was ordered, measured, installed and completed in 6 months.
Our customer greatly exaggerated the time of the project in her review by saying several times that the project took a year and a half. Let me say that this exaggeration was not the only exaggeration in the review.

Our customers complaint was that she was inconvenienced and that the only reason she wrote the review was that at completion we didn't call to apologize. That's not true. I went over to the customers home after the job was finaled by the building inspector to collect the balance, and while there, not only did I apologize, but I also offered both her and her husband a nice dinner out "on the company" for any inconvenience. She however demanded that we reduce her contract balance by $6,000.00 which we refused to do.

According to the customer in her review, the manufacturers rep labeled her a problem customer. We should not be blamed for that since we can not control the impressions of third parties.

Our project took a total of 6 months from the time the signing of the order until the project was completed and signed off. We endeavor to always satisfy our customers, but sometimes that is Impossible.

This is a lie and Mr. knows it. I greatly exaggerated nothing. His company should be avoided by all consumers.

The total elapsed time starting from the time we pulled the permit until our customer's project passed its final inspection was 6 months. It certainly wasn't a year and a half. Our customer further stated that we liened her house demanding payment before the project was completed. Again, public records will clearly show the lien was filed approximately 1 month after the job passed its final inspection. Those are the facts
And those facts are a matter of public record. Her review was greatly exaggerated.

More half truths and misdirection from an unscrupulous business. If the final permit was issued when you say it was, why was there a Pinellas County inspector in my home in 6/17/19 to inspect the installation of my 3rd bathroom window? Why was your employee Mike also in my home that same evening to install the final sliding glass door panel and to finish all the trim work? All of this was from the same job started in 2018. Like I said, more of the same lip service from a company that should be avoided by anyone that values their hard earned money, Greatly exaggerated? I think the totality the other Revdex.com reviewers speak for themselves.

In our customers last review where she claims the project took a year and a half, we state no, the project only took 6 months. She asked if we finished the job in 6 months (as we say) then why was there a building inspector and one of our servicemen on her property in June of 2019.

Our customers original order was signed March 17th, 2018. Her project was started approximately 6 weeks later and completed, inspected, passed and closed out by the Pinellas County Building Department on September 18, 2018. From March 17, 2018 to September 18, 2018 is 6 months.

Sometime after the job was completed our customer had an issue with a bathroom window and wanted it replaced. We called in the warranty item, and when it arrived we removed the old window and replaced it with the new window. All the work was under warranty and since it was a new window, it needed an inspection of its own. That is why both the building inspector and our service man were at her house in June of 2019.

Our customer claims that we asked her for final payment before the job was done. That is absolutely untrue. I personally went out to collect final payment in October of 2018. The job was finished and inspected a month earlier. When I got to the house the customer told me that she wanted a credit of $6,000.00 because she was inconvenienced. She went on to say that her and her husband lost their vacation because of the project. We disagreed.

The installation schedule is dictated by our customer, not us. Their project consisted of windows, an entrance door and a sliding glass door. Our installers install one window or door at a time. We finish one window before we start the next. At the end of each day, the home is completely sealed. That's why at any time the customers could have said that they need to suspend the installation until they come back from vacation.

Nevertheless our customer continued to demand a $6,000.00 discount and we continued to disagree.

Our customer made it abundantly clear that she wasn't going to pay for her job. In October, 2018, one month after the project had been completed we placed a lien on the home for $6,000.

You were at my home in October to of 2018 not to collect the final payment. You were in my home AT MY REQUEST to see the ongoing problems and assure me that things were going to be taken care of. You offered me a free steak dinner for my troubles. The entire job was financed through Greensky and the final 3rd installment had not been submitted to them by YOUR company in October of 2018. I did tell you that there would be no more money authorized until the job was finished and I did ask you to search your conscience to accommodate something for the troubles we experience with your company (but we all see what your conscience is able to swallow and still let you sleep at night) After you filed the lien on my home, I had to contact Greensky and your company to get your employees to finish the job of billing for my account in order have the lien removed. More lazy workmanship. The bathroom window was never correct from the initial installation and same goes for the sliding glass door. You can all them warranty claims all you want, but the fact is it took your company over a year to PROPERLY finish the job. I'm done with you, respond away with more misdirection, obfuscation and outright falsehoods. You've shown your true colors to others reading this. I hope they are smart enough to read the other reviewers comment here and choose another company. I wish I had been.

I was at your home in October most definitely to collect your final payment. The job was done. That is when you told me that you were never going to pay us another cent (meaning you weren't going to pay your $6,000.00 balance). As you know contractors have only so much time to file a lien after the job has been substantially completed. Had I waited a little longer we would have gone past the time allowed to file a lien. By the way, the time allowed to file a lien has nothing to do with how long a project took to complete. The time constraint is that you only have so many days to file a lien after the job has been completed. Since we knew we were getting close to running out of time you left me no choice but to immediately file a lien on the property. The lien was filed a few days after we met. So, if I wasn't there in October to collect your final payment, then why would you say to me that you were never going to pay us another cent? Why would I immediately then file a lien on the property?

No need to reiterate the FACTS, thought I did a pretty good job of laying them out in my above remarks. You're just making a fool of yourself to anyone reading these comments, which is the whole point of posting a review - to help potential customers avoid the nightmare we experienced with your company. Soooo, if you are in the market for windows and you want to be lied to, lied about and slandered publicly Practical Windows and Doors is the company for you. If you'd rather have quality professional service then you should shop around. And btw, still waiting on Bob to get back to me on the leak in my livingroom window. I was told by the tech who was at my home on 9/6/19 that your company would follow up with CWS. When I called CWS 2 weeks ago they had not heard from at all. This is my shocked face. Don't wory about it, once again I did your job for you.
