We recently had our car break down in Gunnison, Co and had to have our car taken into Precision Automotive. We ended up having a blown engine and they installed a new one. They also however stuffed our transmission with oil rags to hide a transmission issue and now our car is back in the shop. The shop that our car is currently at is saying themselves that we have been taken advantage of. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CRIMINALS!

This is concerning [redacted] complaint. She wanted us to diagnics her 2005 Merc. Mariner which we did. We found she lost compression in one of the cylinders. The car would not run so it came in on a car hauler. We did get it to start but it would not keep running. We told her she needed a...

different engine, new or used. We told her she should sell it, which she did. The new owner came t our garage and picked it up. He called us and ask us what we found, I told him, and he said they couldn't get to it to run. They said they were going to get another engine. This is the last I heard.

This business is better than any A+ rating could ever reflect.

The employees are all warm, friendly, welcoming, honest, generous, compassionate and have found the most amazing & delicate balance between perfectly professional & inviting as a friend you might've known, your entire life.

This is a beautifully run company and the business is blessed.

Review: Gentlemen:

We brought our vehicle to you in the beginning of October 2013, we informed you we has just purchased it from a charity and driving it home. We noticed it was difficult to start, the engine was running rough and we wanted it tuned up. We requested that you perform a tune-up on the engine and check the radiator and brakes. We informed you that we travel to the desert quite often and could not have the vehicle overheating and leaving us stranded in the desert. You informed us you would need to do a diagnostic check to determine what exactly, if anything, was wrong. We authorized the diagnostic.

You then contacted us and told us the motor was a worn 360, not a 440 like we believed, and recommended we replace it with a manufactured engine. Marty authorized the remanufactured engine. You called him back a few days later and advised that you were having difficulty obtaining an engine from one company that you were going to another. You also told us whoever we bought the vehicle from must have cut the A/C unit, but that you could get us another one. You requested a deposit towards the work to be performed and on October 18, 2013 we paid $5,000.00. On November 5, 2013, we paid an additional sum of $3,500.00.

When the work was completed, we received a phone call advising us the unit was ready. On November 8, 2013, we came in, paid the balance owing $447.25 and took possession of our vehicle. We were not provided with any receipts or warranties for parts purchased, nor were we shown the worn/replaced parts as requested when we brought it in.

We took the vehicle to [redacted] in Vacaville in February, May, and June of 2014 for interior work. The vehicle overheated on every trip.

We have driven the motorhome less than 800 miles since we picked it up from you and the unit continued to overheat. As your invoice states, “Warranty on most parts is one year, labor is 90 days or 4000 miles whichever comes first.” As it has been a year and a half since we picked up our vehicle from you, we located a mechanic closer to us, and asked him to check out the unit and determine what was causing the continued overheating.

We were informed our radiator was shot. It was not a new radiator and further, that due to the constant overheating, we blew a head gasket. It was suggested we replace the radiator with a new radiator and to repair the heads. I provided a copy of your invoice to the mechanic, as I believe this work had already been done. I trusted you to do the work you charged me for and argued with the mechanic that the radiator was indeed new. We authorized the work and were called into the shop two days later.

You cannot imagine my shock when we were told not only was the radiator shot, but the engine was not a [redacted] Remanufactured 360 long block, as your invoice states.

Still I believe you would have not cheated us like that. Apparently you did. I am now sure that I bought back my own AC unit for $400.00. Therefore, I am requesting a refund of fees in the total sum of $7,081.52. Your own invoice shows a radiator was never removed nor installed in my vehicle.

Before you tell me, I am incorrect about the engine, I was in your shop on July 24, 2015, requesting a copy of the invoice for the engine and warranty paperwork. The gentleman in the office told me you didn’t have any. He looked at the invoice and stated “[redacted] engines are generally a 100,000 mile warranty”. I asked how you determine warrantability if there is no paperwork and was further told, “we go by the date on the invoice that we installed the engine and the mileage at that time” I couldn’t believe it. I thanked your staff for their time and left.

I returned home and called [redacted] and was informed they have no records of selling your company a gas engine during the time you had possession of my vehicle. Please refund the sum of $7,081.52 within 35 days of the date of this letter. Should you choose not to refund our money, we will be forced to seek legal consultation.

Respectfully, [redacted]

Desired Settlement: Please refund the sum of $7,081.52 within 35 days of the date of this letter. Should you choose not to refund our money, we will be forced to seek legal consultation.

Review: I am writing in regards to my recent dealings with precision automotive.

I was referred by several different repair shops who could not work on my vehicles carburetor in order for it to pass smog.

I provided them with a written list of things that needed to be fixed in order for my van to pass smog. I was given a quote of $1,121.24., which I approved and agreed to.

The day I paid the balance and picked up my van I was told my van had passed smog and that is was in good enough condition to go anywhere I wanted to. I specifically remember a remark about my van's engine being almost restored to new.

Within half a mile from the shop I noticed my van was surging and I called the office and was told to bring my van back in to the shop. They were very busy and it was almost 5 pm. So I was told to bring my van back the next day. One of the workers drove my van around the block and parked it and then gave me a paper stating I needed a new carburetor and quoted a price of $705.41. for work that they listed was included in the 1,321.24 estimate.

I started to complaint and the owners offered to drop the price from 705.41 to $570.00 I declined-When I returned to the shop with my male companion the owner offered to drop the price again from $570.-- to $241.00 it was then that I know I had been scammed and declined his services to fix what he should have already fixed. I am very dissatisfied and this experience has lead me here.Desired Settlement: I'd appreciate it if this be investigated. In hopes that I be acknowledged and fairly compensated for my loss. If catalytic converter is bad the carburetor should have looked at and worked on at the same time!

I need help!

Response:

The customer came in for smog system repairs that had failed at another shop. Checked system and found base timing was incorrect. Reinstalled pcv vacuum hose, reconnected TAC hot air tube system. Replaced plugged air filter and pcv valve. Found ignition wires were crossed at #4 and #8 cylinders. Had a bad surge at idle caused by a defective egr valve. Repaired the fuel evaporative system for a leak. Found catalyst was defective due to poor running conditions and replaced catalyst. Adjusted carburetor best possible due to internal wear and was able to get mixture within specifications. After repairs and smog test were complete, we found the carburetor has internal wear and offered to repair the carburetor at a discounted price. Customer refused additional repairs at that time.

Review: Thursday evening, 4/25/2013 , I was informed that my wife's car (a 2000 Saab 95) was stranded and would not start at a local business. As it was nearly midnight when I had it towed, I had the tow company hold the vehicle over night so that Fri. morning, I would be able to make some calls to find a repair shop that would be able to take and service the car that day. Shortly after 7:00am Fri. morning, I contacted Precision Automotive and explained my dilema. They said they were busy but they were sure that could get it in that day and find out what was wrong with it. At that point, I called the tow company and had them deliver the car to the service facility. I went to Precision Automotive and was there when the tow truck and my vehicle arrived. I spoke with a rep. from Precision and explained that the vehicle wasn't getting fuel to the engine and I felt that the fuel pump had failed. He said that when they had determined the problem, he would call to inform me.By 12:45pm that day, I hadn't heard from them so called to check. At that time, I was informed that they would not be able to even look at the vehicle until "next week" since they were busy and not open on the weelend. At approx. 10:00 am Mon. morning, the service facility called me to inform me that they had done some diagnostics and that the fuel pump needed replacing. When I asked how much it would cost, I was given a quote of over $1,100.00 to replace the fuel pump and that quote was only good so long as that was "the only thing wrong". I felt that quote was quite high so tried talking with their representative about the facts: a new pump from the [redacted] dealer was $350.00, the removal and replacement shouldn't take more than a hour. They were not willing to negotiate. It cost me $98 for them to troubleshoot the problem, $65 to have the car towed to my house. It took me 45 min., a pair of pliers and a screw driver to do the job in my driveway confirming that their quote was akin to common robbery. I want my $65 retow money refunded.Desired Settlement: I want them to refund me $65 which was the price of getting my vehicle home where it could be repaire at a reasonable cost

Mr [redacted] called our shop on a very busy Friday and told us his car had died and would not start and asked if we had time to look at it if he had it towed over. We told him we were very busy but if he got it to us we would make an attempt to get it looked at if time permitted. As our day was already filled with customers who made appointments for that day we were not able to get his vehicle in. He called mid afternoon and asked how it was coming and told him we would not get to it until Monday. He stated that if he had known that he would have towed it home and fixed it himself. We made no promises to him, only stated that we would try to work him in. He told us he would be right over with a tow truck. When the day ended for us around 6:30 that evening I noticed the car was still in the lot so we towed it into the shop so it wouldn’t be sitting out all weekend. On Monday I had a tech diagnose the car and we called him with an estimate. He told us our estimate was outrageous and would be over with a tow truck. We charged him for diagnosing the problem and he towed the car home. As businesses have high overhead costs, we do not sell parts for what we pay for them. When we do an estimate all parts are entered into a parts pricing matrix allowing us enough profit margin to pay payroll taxes, work comp, etc. I do not feel that I am responsible for the cost of towing his car home simply because he could not afford to have our shop repair his vehicle. We are a professional repair facility that backs it’s repairs up with a 2 year, 24,000 mile nationwide warranty coverage, including towing. You cannot offer that coverage if your business does not make a profit. Again, the only thing Mr. [redacted] was pissed about was the fact that he could not afford a professional repair. If you have any questions you may call me at ###-###-####.

Thanks for your time,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9526443, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Upon reviewing the response I received, I noted several inconsistencies as noted below:

- When I first made contact with this business, I explained that if they were not going to be able to work on the car that Friday, (that very day) I would have the vehicle towed to another repair shop. Their rep. convinced me to have the car towed to their business because he was sure they could get to it. Again, if they had been "professional" and honest and told me then that they couldn't get to it that day, I would have had it towed to a shop that could get to it that day.

-The response claims that I was "pissed" because I couldn't afford their service. This claim is untrue. I could have afforded service from a shop that was an honest straight forward "professional" business. The business in question does not fit that description. I was quoted. a price that exceeded $1100.00 and when I did the math, I questioned their price. Part at cost plus 35% markup = $472.00 and 2 hours labor at $100.00 per hour = $200.00 bringing the total to $672.00. When I questioned their quote, I was told that they were in business to make money.

- I am not a so called professional but was able to do the job myself for the price of the fuel pump and 45 minutes of my time using 1 screw driver and 1 pair of pliers. This confirmed to me that I was correct in assuming that this business was attempting to fleece my pocket book of about $500.00. Furthermore, I did the right thing having the vehicle removed from their location before the fleecing could take place.

- The claim that I couldn't afford their service would be better stated, I didn't want to be robbed of $500.00.

- Had they been honest from the onset or provided a fair quote, things would have been different. As it was, I was forced to remove the vehicle from their unprofessional establishment or suffer the consequences. That being said, I feel they owe me the $60.00 it cost me to have the vehicle re-towed before being grossly overcharged by a very unprofessional establishment.

Response:

[redacted], As per our phone conversation I really don’t know what I could add to what I’ve already told you. I can tell you that when we’re as busy as we were that day it is policy to never promise service that we know we may not be able to deliver on. We do our best to work emergencies in but it doesn’t always work out and we make sure the customers know up front that it is not a promise. There are only so many hours in the day and some days we run out of time. When we are busy the techs start at 7:00 A.M. as it is and take a short lunch. I’m not going to force a technician to stay late when he’s already worked 9 ½ hours. Mr [redacted] needs to understand that badmouthing a reputable business is not going to get him a refund for anything. Business is stressful enough without the added stress of a customer who doesn’t understand that we did not deliberately put him off. Sometimes jobs don’t go as smoothly as we hope and extra time is needed to complete the task at hand. In those cases we have to take care of the customers who scheduled an appointment ahead of time first because they were there first. It is never anything personal, just first come first served.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9526443, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

My name is not [redacted]. Addressing me that way is just another indication of the lack of attention paid to business matters at your place of business.

I can understand that you may find yourself busy from time to time but it is important to be completely honest with potential customers as to your capabilities rather than twisting the truth just to get business in the door. I can also understand occasionally finding ones self falling behind a schedule that is tentative at best. What I can't understand, and the reason that I am complaining, is a business attempting to charge exorbitant prices for something that was worth a considerable amount less.

In this case, the business had an opportunity to make about $350 for approximately 1.5 hours of effort. That comes out to about $233/hr and I would have been happy to pay the piper. However, I felt the nearly $533/hr price in this instance was not acceptable and felt the need to speak my mind - fair is fair, unfair is unfair.

At this point, it is apparent that the business has no intention of professional or responsible actions regarding this complaint and I'll just be happy warning everyone I know that they're very likely to be treated in like fashion should they make the unfortunate choice of entrusting their vehicle to your unprofessional care.

Review: On March 31, 2014, my 18 year old son, [redacted], had traveled 150 miles to Billings to see a friend. His car lost all gears and reverse became disabled as well. He called home and my husband traveled to Billings to help. After inspection, my husband decided to call our road service through our auto insurance. The 2002 Ford Escape was towed to Precision Automotive at [redacted]. My son and husband followed to see if the car was able to be repaired. Precision Auto decided the car needed a rebuilt transmission to the tune of $3316.13. We told them that we would call them and let them know about our decision. We conversed by phone several times and suggested other options. After considering our options, we decided to retrieve the car and bring it home. I traveled to Billings with a friend who owns a truck and trailer on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 to get the car. I called and told them that I may not get there before they closed so could they please leave the key under the mat. They agreed. I arrived around 5:30 pm and soon discovered there was no key, the car had a flat tire, and the car was locked up. I had to call local dispatch to reach the business owner. He came to the shop and could not find the key. He called several employees who had no clue where the key was located. I waited for several hours before he decided the key was lost and he agreed to bring the car to Miles City on the following Wednesday May 21, 2014. He never arrived with the car. I have called on the average of twice a week since that date. "[redacted]" is either out of the shop or unavailable. I have left numerous messages for him to call at no avail. Last Wednesday, June 18, 2014, my husband, myself and my son traveled to Billings for an appointment. We stopped there to see if and when they were going to bring the car. "[redacted]" informed us that he would be bringing the car on Friday. I called at noon on Friday and was told that [redacted] was at home. The receptionist had no idea when he was coming back or if he was coming to Miles City. I requested that he call me to let me know his time of arrival. Today is June 25, 2014 and still no vehicle has been delivered. I do not own a truck or trailer so I would have to rent or borrow the equipment again to transport the vehicle home. I believe this is the worst kind of customer service there is. I would really like some resolution to this issue.Desired Settlement: I would like Precision Auto to transport my vehicle to Miles City as promised. I would like it to be here within 10 days.

Response:

Mr[redacted],

As usual in these cases you only got half of the story. The [redacted]s brought this vehicle to us, we diagnosed it and tried to reach them for almost a month with no luck. When we finally did reach them they told us they would provide us with a used transmission to install as they could not afford a remanufactured one. The vehicle sat for most of another month before they finally said they could not afford to fix it at all. We told them they owed for diagnosing the problem and when they complained about that we waived the diagnostic time fees if they would just come and get it as it was taking up valuable space. When they came to pick it up we could not find the key so we had one made the next week. We had a disgruntled employee whom we fired park it and we don’t know what he did with the key. The vehicle has been delivered by us to their home address in Miles City so I do not know what more the customer expects us to do. We’ve already paid $145.00 to have a computer key made and delivered it to them free of charge plus waived the diagnostic fee. We told them we would get it to them when we could, NEVER PROMISING a particular day or time! As for the tire having a slow leak, that has nothing to do with us. Do they think I punched a hole in the tire? I think even mentioning that the tire was low was uncalled for. It is nothing we did and is not our responsibility to make sure the tires are full of air. Any tire with a leak will be flat after sitting for two months!
