I was attending the college and needed to withdrawn due to life situations. I reached out to multiple people multiple times to get un enrolled and was unable to. Now they are saying I owe them over $1,000 and refuse to release my transcript to me

Purdue University Global Response • Oct 03, 2019

On October 3, 2019, the Office of Student Relations for Purdue Global reached out to Ms. Slimmen (Smith) directly to address her concern. We consider this case closed and have attached the student communication sent to Ms. Slimmen.

MY compliant is against financial aid department, They begin auditing my chart in July, it's been four weeks and still not resolved, their asking daily from something different on my tax script amended 2016. Different Rep. everyday but know ones the correct information to tell me. I SUBMITTED ALL OF THIS INFORMATION BEFORE ENROLLING THE SCHOOL, NOW ITS A PROBLEM. I'm having anxiety attack, headaches and nausea for lack of harassing emails and phones with out being resolved. The individual auditing the chart is nip picking. My education and lively hood depends on my financial aid. The department of education states their not involve, they just sending the money to the school. Poor service of Purdue not helping their students, I'm in tears right now, for lack of support from Purdue. I want to finish it's a good school, I do not want to transfer, but I do not want tension from the school staff either.

I had an agreement with Purdue Global/Kaplan University to make monthly payments in the amount of $10 on a balance of approx $1000. I had monthly payments deducted from my checking account religiously for 2 years never missing one payment. 8 days after they took my May payment, they sent my account to collections because of the "low payment" I was paying...that they had agreed was okay for me to pay. It seems to me to be unethical to send someone to collections when they never miss a payment that YOU agreed was okay for them to pay!!!!!

Purdue University Global Response • Aug 01, 2019

Student Relations confirmed that Ms. has been making consistent payments of $10.00 since 2017. The University made a business decision to no longer hold low payment accounts in-house. The Student Accounts Department informed Ms. that she can continue to make her $10.00 payments to the collections agency. The University accounts does not report to the credit bureaus so this will not affect her credit rating.

I am currently fighting with Kaplan University (now Purdue) (Which are for profit schools, after the fact) and I have forwarded information of fraud to the Department of Education. I am also trying to obtain my transcripts for the thousands of dollars worth of classes I took with them. They will not release them because out of the blue I owe both colleges money. I was wondering if there is anything I can do? These are 60,000 worth of loans, my financial aid is maxed, I haven't even finished my degree, and I cant even get financial aid from my new school because of "unusual enrollment history" (which requires my official transcripts. So I am sitting here with no financial aid, 60000 worth of loans and nothing to show for it.

I am disabled and wanted to earn my education online. I went through Purdue Global University where they said that in order to go there I “needed” to fill out a FASFA form for grants and loans but not to worry because nothing will happen if I don’t want it, but I was obligated to do it if I wanted to go to school. Also, that I had 21 days free to try out the classes and that if I didn’t like it, I could withdraw without it affecting my financial aid or transcript. Now, I’m stuck with a $3000.00 loan that I didn’t want and the classes I took were a complete waste because they taught nothing about the subject I was interested in. After, I brought the matter to Ms. Asha Massop, the admissions counselor, she became rude, yelling and said that I can’t withdraw and that I have a huge bill that I need to pay.

We responded to the student. Below is a copy of our response.
*** S 3:45 PM (1 minute ago) 5/29/2019 to ***1862 Dear Ms. G,

The Purdue University Global Office of Student Relations is the department responsible for addressing complaints from its students. As you are probably aware, Purdue University Global serves as a separate institution within the Purdue system, and the Office of Student Relations addresses Purdue Global student complaints under its own Problem Resolution and Grievance Policy. We are dedicated to excellent administrative service and a high level of student satisfaction, and take it seriously when our students report they are concerned with their experience. The Office of Student Relations was made aware of your concerns regarding your balance. You indicated you were told you “needed” to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to attend school and now have a large balance. You also indicated that you had twenty one days to withdraw. We researched your concerns and found that your Purdue Global Commitment ended on May 10, 2019. You called on May 16, 2019, to withdraw from your program, six days after the deadline to withdraw with no balance. Your balance stems from dropping from your course after your commitment period ended. The amount you owe is based on the University’s Refund Policy as explained on your Enrollment Agreement. You stated you were told you “needed” to complete your FAFSA. We listened to the phone call made with your admissions advisor on March 29, 2019 at 4:30 PM. The advisor did not, at any time, mention that you needed to complete the FAFSA for enrollment. During the call, you asked about funding to which the advisor replied that you could apply for financial aid. There was no indication you were told you had to apply for financial aid or required to complete a FAFSA. Based on our research, we have determined that your balance is valid. Please contact the Student Accounts Department at 1.866.522.7747 option 1, then option 2 to set up satisfactory payments.

We hope this information answers your concerns. Thank you for allowing the Office of Student Relations the opportunity to address your concerns. We wish you well with your future academic endeavors.

Regards,

*** S

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 13568641, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
For example, I began the process of completing my paperwork long before March 29, where I had spoken to various members of the school’s employees when it was in fact mentioned that I “needed” to fill out the FASFA form, which included the loan portion. These schools employees pressured me a lot and even said not to worry because if a loan was approved I did “not have to accept it because it was just to see what I qualified for” the classes I did eventually take were not, in my opinion, even considered as classes at all because the teacher’s curriculum was not fully based on whatI signed up for and the teacher didn’t really teach at all. Another point I would like to make is the series of complaints against this school for the same exact reasons of being cheated out of their money, time, and education, which I would be more than happy to submit.

I have received marketing text messages from a vendor representing Purdue University Global that are in direct violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), which makes it illegal to solicit sales to cellular devices via call or text message. In my attempts to resolve the issue with Purdue University Global, I received an email from an unnamed representative of Kaplan Higher Education who stated that I had "opted in" for these communications. However, the burden of proof is on the marketer in this instance, and in my attempts to get further proof from Purdue/Kaplan, I discovered my email address has been blocked by their servers. I am requesting that a representative contact me by phone and provide the IP address with which I "opted in" and "interacted with their pages."

I’ve been attending Purdue global university(an online entity of Purdue Universty offering only enrollment). After receiving full credit for an academic portfolio in which I could petition credits that were remaining in my degree plan in order to receive my undergraduate degree. I was told that I would only receive credit for one meaning I would not be graduation like not only myself, but my own student adviser as well. I’ve been calling and leaving messages for someone to call me back, but that never happens. If I do get through to someone I’m giving the run around how no one knows to seem what’s going on! Just recently I received an email about I been dropped from the university. Mind you I’m a 4.0 student! I thought after filing the grievance, I would know what’s being done to resolve these issue. It’s been two weeks and still no answer. A promotion for me was contingent on me receiving my degree and now I have no clue how my near future career is going to be! Purdue Global ensured me that if I received full credit for all the classes I petitioned I’d be a college graduate. I held up my end of the bargai by maintaining a 4.0 thus far; I’ve gone above and beyond to show how determined I was to acquire my degree and at the top of my class. Purdue didn’t hold up its end of the deal and I’d like to know why!

I attended Purdue University (formerly known as Kaplan University) 09/14/2012 to 10/08/2013. During my attendance, my schooling was paid for with loans and grants from the Department of Education. I needed to take a leave of absence for a short-period. So prior to them allowing me to leave, I had to speak with a few people about "Exit Counseling". We spoke all about the leave process, my re-entrance, and finances. As a condition for me to actually go through with the leave (since my financial standing was NOT good at all - i.e. I could barely afford to buy food and basic household items, much less an outstanding balance to a school that basically vacuums money out of your pockets) I made it an absolute staunch effort to ensure that I wasn't responsible for ANY PAYMENTS or balances at that time, during my leave, and upon my return. The exit counselor that I spoke with at that time assured me that I didn't owe anything and that I wouldn't owe ANYTHING.

Then when I got back to school, I heard about a charge that I owed as a result of taking a leave. Naturally, I outright denied and disputed the charge because of what was virtually guaranteed to me before I left. Not even halfway through my next term, I'm blocked from finishing school because of so-called balance that I owed that was NEVER disclosed to me until after my leave. Maybe the lady that I spoke to was new and she Knew not of what she claimed, but that doesn't mean I should be punished for her ignorance. Maybe it was a tactic to get MORE MONEY out of me! Either way I would have just tried to scrap pieces together and get well sooner in order to ensure that I could continue school instead of leaving - even if it meant that I'd fail or be below average .

To add insult to injury though, when I contacted Kaplan about it (proceeding the block - which by the way ALSO prevents me from receiving my official transcript) they stuck with the story of the balance being because of my leave for years. Now all of a sudden today, the balance is due to the fact that Kaplan refunded funds back to the Department of Education for whatever reason unbeknown to me. And then ON THE SAME DAY - during the SAME interaction - now all of a sudden the balance is due to the fact that I wasn't eligible for enough funding.

What's my take on it? I went an immensely unaffordable, poor excuse, of an educational institute. I got sick and had to leave and they took that as a ploy to get more money from me once (or if) I got back to school. And instead of them keeping the funds that I was gonna have to pay back to DOE anyway (because in case they hadn't noticed - my academic standing was virtually impeccable up until I got sick) they GAVE my "eligible funding" back to DOE and expected me to pay the school directly. How stupid is that? You were given money to cover my being there and increasing your school's success rate, but then you give it back AFTER I come back to school and say I'm the one responsible for paying you money that you just gave away like an it?? How does that make sense?

It doesn't make sense and it's not right that I have to be the one to suffer and come out of my pocket for a situation that was completely avoidable to begin with. But did Kaplan make that correlation? No, Kaplan wrote off the charge after a while and sent it to collections so that I could suffer even more with a poor credit score. So now even if I decide to just give in and pay them (via the collection agency who obviously gets a piece out of this too) I'm still stuck with this derogatory remark for the next 7 years - which is literally FURTHER PUNISHMENT for a wrong that I did not commit or consent to.

Advertising stated I could enroll in online classes and if furing probationary period I decided I could not complete classes for any reason. Then I could withdrawal and not have any issues nor be charged. After a hassle of college not me to withdrawal, lying stating that my classes would be covered by grants then college was insisting instead I had to take out two different student loans . Then after all that n finally getting thru that I was a single mother n was not taking loans out n could not complete classes I must withdrawal they withdrew me then sending me a bill for 3,000 for not even one month of classes only taking 2 classes I contacted again telling them I have the proof of advertisement and proof I tried to withdrawal within period n then did withdrawal that this needed to be taken care of the lady stated she would handle it almost 2 months after hearing this I received a phone call from debit collector stating I owe them and they turned it over to collection agency I’ve contacted Clark H n now filing this complaint I want the debit taken care.

I enrolled into Purdue Global University (formerly Kaplan University) in August of 2017. At that time I was told I would be graduating in November of 2018. In April of 2018 I was told I would be graduating in May of 2018 and that because of this My funding was prorated and I was told I would owe them $119.00. I work with a program called ACCESS-VR which works with people with disabilities and they said they would send a voucher to Purdue for the aforementioned money. When the voucher was sent it was sent to an address that Purdue has not been at for two years and I have not been able to get a straight answer from them about this situation in months. Now they have sent this to collection and are saying even if I was to pay them the money. I would still not get my certificate as now they are saying I didn't meet the criteria even though this has never been mentioned before now.

Purdue Global is claiming that I owe a back balance during my withdraw, but I did withdraw under the time frame needed. I also reached out to advisers, financial aid, and several others. Ultimately, I had to take a leave of absence to due being assaulted and raped, this led to a pregnancy which then led to an adoption, during this time, I also had to death with two deaths in my immediate family. The two courses that I did withdraw from, I did not complete more than a week of work. Purdue Global did collect more than half the cost of these two courses and is claiming that I owe more than two thousand dollars. I have all records of how they applied the financial aid as well as detailed copies of all correspondence as well. I also have proof that I requested information on how to appeal this as it was appalling what they were doing, and I was told verbatim that there was nothing that I could do, nor would I be able to appeal this. It is completely unethical what they are doing to me considering what I had gone through.

I had chosen Purdue Global Online as a way to continue my education into law school, and I was misled by student advisors and financial aid advisors into thinking that acquiring financial aid was easy and that I would have no worry having a secured means of funding for education. Once my initial term had started, I still had no means of financial aid secured and no one in the financial aid department was willing to help and I made my concerns clear nearly every week I was without funding. Therefore, I did my due diligence and found out that I needed to complete several steps in regards to my previous tax transcripts (to which I completed), and I was still brushed aside and informed I needed to complete additional steps to amend my taxes (over a $27 discrepancy through a lengthy verification process) more than halfway through the term. At that point, amending my taxes would not be feasible within time constraints and I would have been dropped from class and still be held responsible for my initial fees of $2,500. This was a sneaky business practice to lure unsuspecting students to start their education without proper financial aid and subject them through a verification process that ultimately would not have been completed in time to make the decision to drop from the school within the three month waiver window.

Purdue Global University, or Kaplan University is a worse school for working adults. My experience was terrible, lack of student services, students communication. I am very upset, the way I got treat by the staff members, I have trying for month to completed and email my verification for my financial Aid to go through. No one can helped each staff had different information. by the time everything clear they declared that I have a charge of $4000 plus to paid.

To any veteran wanting to attend this University, beware. I registered as a student with Purdue Global in order to take a few classes that I needed for Physican assistant school. When I paid for and finished these classes, they charged me a $350 fee for a clinical that I never took. I have attended two well respected University systems, and neither had the level of hidden fees that this school does.

Purdue University bought out Kaplan University
They are holding my degree and grades because they said I own balance I own nothing

I have emailed the school on multiple locations are withdrawing from Purdue Global University and they have not sent back my loans to the lender or myself. I believe the school has kept the funding.

Purdue Global has stolen my financial aid money. My reward letter from FASFA stated that I was awarded $10,000 for the semester. Purdue Global is telling me that I was awarded a different amount and that I owe them money. Specifically they are telling me that my Pell Grant was only $100, yet FASFA stated they awarded $6000 (3,000/semester

I originally applied to Purdue University Global in September of 2018. As a condition of enrolling in the school, I had requested an audit of my transcripts prior to enrolling.

In my correspondences with the school, I was informed that by a Purdue University Global representative via email that "if you are not signing the enrollment agreement then I cannot order the Free Priority Audit... Many schools charge for Audits and we are not charging an application/processing fee or the audit so if you can't trust what I have explained that you are not Obligated and neither is the University".

With this information, I was under the impression that if I were to enroll in the school that I would be receiving an audit of my transcripts, that is normally a paid service, on my official transcripts from the Associate Director of Admissions for the School. I called the school and spoke with the Associate Director, who told me over the phone that she was responsible for approving or not approving all transcripts and that she would evaluate my transcripts as a "priority audit" so that I could start in school semester starting in September 2018 knowing how many credits would transfer.

I sent in my official transcripts to the Associate Director and the Admissions person who made a promise for a free audit, and within a few days received an email stating "Please see the attached Priority Audit...you will start at a Junior level student and can complete your program as fast as you choose since you are accepted as an Excel Track student in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program.".

This information caused me to believe that I would be starting the school at a Junior Level Credits. Within the audit from the Associate Director directly, they had stated that I had previously completed 104 credits, out of 180 required for me degree program.

Excited by this information, I began taking my classes immediately, being under the impression that they would transfer all my the credits promised in their audit of my schools transcripts.

I had previously attended 4 different universities and colleges, which all required me to order official transcripts for their records. The last of my official transcripts that Purdue University Global Received was on September 26th, 2018. The information provided in regards to the classes I had taken are exactly the same between the official and unofficial transcripts, only differing in the method of transmission from the previous schools to their school.

After Purdue University Global evaluated my transcripts, they had notified me that I would need to obtain the course syllabi for two of my previous courses at *** along with documentation showing that I had taken the specific course. All the information that was requested was remitted to the school on the same day as it was requested. I also followed-up via email and by phone call to the Associate Director the same day, and she told me that she would help handle the issue personally and I could expect to hear back within 48 hours as of September 26th, 2018. The credits that I had actually been transferred by the school was 89 credits, which was less than the amount of credits I had actually completed, and failed to deliver on the promise of starting school in my junior year. Since these correspondences of sending the additional information requested, I have emailed and called the Associate Director and have not been able to get in contact for over two weeks after numerous attempts. I had followed up the school directly and have also put in two separate requests with three different student advisors, all of which claimed I would hear back in 48 hours, and have not since received a single correspondence from the school regarding this evaluation.

There failure to deliver on their promise on time and as promised has put me in a position where I would be liable for the academic year financially and an additional term, which is more courses and money than originally promised. Additionally, because their delays in getting back to me has put me in a position financially where I have no choice to back out of attending the university without being liable for an entire academic year. In the course of them reviewing my transcripts and courses that I was promised would transfer, I have already completed 3 courses at the university. Because they have not fully evaluated my transcripts, the school is claiming that I can only enroll in one more class, which is also a failure to deliver on the promise that I "can complete the program as fast as I choose in the Excel Track".

The level of expectation the school had conveyed that I could expect from their organization being a non-profit, was that their entire staff is dedicated to not be focused on profits, but instead of providing a full educational experience to students. Additionally, without my permission, the school requested an additional terms worth of tuition from FASFA, which would have effectively covered another terms worth of tuition. There appeared to be no valid reason for justification for there request of the additional amount of tuition when I requested why the amount was higher than what I actually needed at the time. So far the experience I've encountered has been the opposite of what I was expecting from the school acting as a non-profit and definitely resembles more of a for-profit organization by their conduct of business. Also, I think that their delay tactics to drive higher profits for the school is not only dishonest, but a failure on their commitment to help students achieve academic success.

Email Documentation of correspondences can be Provided Upon Request.

Hello Revdex.com,

I am writing to inform you that someone from the school did attempt to contact me privately. They left their contact information, and I called them back to discuss but never heard back from them. However, the school did resolve part of the issue. Although they did not resolve the issue in it's entirety, they were able complete a portion of what they have promised. They did give me a portion, but not all of the credit I was promised. There have been several interruptions during the semester that also makes the ability to complete courses "as fast as you want" not possible either. Also, some of the teachers require you to only take one module at a time, which means that you can only go as fast as an instructor allows you to. This portion of the complaint is still unresolved.

To be honest, I'm a bit conflicted because I feel like although they have in part solved part of my problem I do not know if they have made the corrections internally to resolve this issue for any other student that enrolls after me. I feel this way because I was never able to contact the school directly about this issue other then attempting to call them, which I never received a reply.

What do you recommend in this situation?

Thank you

The University was formerly known as *** University, and I became aware that any Federal student loan that I took out weren't applied to my student account and now I have a student loan out that I have to pay for that institution that was never applied to my student and now they are stating I actually owe the school 8,000 dollars when that isn't the case. Let me also add that I stop going to this school in February 2010 because I went in labor with child and was in the hospital. This is Federal Aid Fraud and because now I have to pay for these Loans I need it to be resolved asap.
