RainSoft Water Treatment of Northern Michigan Reviews (%countItem)

I was completely satisfied with the service I received from Rainsoft of Northern Michigan. This team of individuals took great care of me from the initial phone call to place the order all the way through the installation of the equipment in my home. They were very polite on the phone, knowledgeable of the products and services they were offering to me and lastly, very professional and considerate of my time during the installation of the equipment in my home. I would absolutely recommend this company and product to anyone!

Tyler was very professional and easy to talk to about concerns with the softener. He was quick to recognize the problem and fix it.

Our water was so very bad, we have struggled and put up with it for over a decade. Our shower was always dark yellow or even a dark brown, On occasion I've had to use CLR in a spray bottle to just clean the shower walls. I believe Dan was a bit surprised by how bad our water was. Dan was great, very professional as well as the co-worker that was with him. Dan went through everything I needed to know plus the installation went very well and it also took a little less time than they first thought. It was a big expense for us but well worth it. We couldn't remember when we had water this good. First time in a very long time, when you step out of the shower, you actually feel clean. Both me and my wife said we should have done this some time ago, even if it meant taking a bank loan. We are so grateful for their service. The fellows replaced a rain soft unit that was 25 years old. I would have liked more tech information in the manuals though. Mostly curious about the number read outs. Good job guys!

Nathan was very patient and explained everything. Dan, the installer, went above and beyond explaining everything about the system and answered every question I had. Great guys!

Dan has his 10,000 to 20, 000 hours of experience in water softeners. Bright energetic, realistic, friendly, upbeat, and savvy. Felt like I was talking to a neighbor that could help me with any project. Wish he lived in the area in case a last minute repair event would happen. But with my new unit, that may never happen.

Hi Stephen,

We love hearing that Dan was experienced, bright, energetic, realistic, friendly, upbeat, savvy, and neighborly! What wonderful feedback for him! If you do end up needing us again, we always make it out to you as soon as possible and we have lots of technicians available. Thank you for your feedback and welcome to the RainSoft family!

I picked up a free water test kit from The Home Depot. I sent it in and received my results back. This company told me that my water was undrinkable. The city water tests conducted came back with completely different numbers. RainSoft talked me into making payments on an outrageously priced water system. After the fact, when I attempted to get out of the contract and return their product, they told me that it is my property. If it was my property I wouldn't have to be making payments on it. I have been having a very difficult time communicating with this company. I have been told they are a scam. When I cancelled my payments, they increased my APR to 21%. They recently sent me a letter saying that if I do not pay a minimum of $375 they will charge me with the full price of the system which is $8,300. I would avoid doing any kind of business with this company.

Hi Jessica,

We installed 4 units in your home on June 21, 2019. Unfortunately, the first attempt you made to contact our office about cancelling your purchase was on November 20, 2019 stating that it was due to issues with your finance company. We informed you at this time that as stated in your contract, you were well past your cancellation date where we would take back the equipment. We also let you know that we would be happy to send a technician to your home to service your 4 units if you felt that they were not working correctly, but you chose not to do this.

As you stated here, you financed the 4 units. When you finance something, your contract is with the finance company and RainSoft would not have any effect on your interest rate. Your payments are to your finance company, not to RainSoft. If you do not make your scheduled payments to the finance company, then you are correct that the finance company will raise your interest rate. This is all stated in your signed contract with the finance company.

We are still able to have a technician out to make sure your units are working as they are designed to, but we are not able to cancel your purchase.

Dale was very knowledgeable, polite and no high pressure sales pitch to purchase product.

RainSoft Water Treatment of Northern Michigan Response • Jan 22, 2020

Hi Haydn,

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are happy to hear we could help you honestly with no pressure.

Service man was very professional, work done quickly on the Osmosis drinking water. However, we were not told of the additional costs that would be yearly $300.00 if they come to the home, or $90.00 less, if we do it our selves on installing filters, plus another filter that needs to be changed every 2-3 years is an additional $200+ (that makes it over $500+ every 2-3 years. We know our water is not the best and are enjoying the good drinking water, but this total system for our home was a lot more expensive that we thought. However our prior system was not much cheaper. Everyone we worked with was pleasant and knowledgeable.

RainSoft Water Treatment of Northern Michigan Response • Jan 16, 2020

Hi Michael & Christine,

We are happy to hear that our team was professional, quick, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Sorry about any confusion on the filters. There are 3 filters (pre, post, & membrane filters) on your reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water filtration system. The pre and the post filter should be changed yearly and are $39.99 each. The membrane filter should be changed every 2-3 years and is $119.99. RainSoft filters are NSF Certified, which is very important to ensure that the filters are removing the contaminants promised.

There are a couple different options for changing the filters. You can come into our office to purchase them, we can mail them to you, or we can send a service technician out to your home to change them. Our service call fee for a technician to come out to you is $95, or we can instruct you over the phone (and we would also give you step-by-step instructions with the filters). We love hearing that you are enjoying your good drinking water and understand that you get what you pay for. Welcome to the RainSoft family and thank you for your feedback.

Had tech come to home to after doing mailed test sample.
When test was done in home by tech he advised he would not drink the water or even give to our dog. Rather alarming statements. Had water tested by local health department, five different tests, all came back normal.
Seems trying to scare people into buying there water systems

RainSoft Water Treatment of Northern Michigan Response • Jan 16, 2020

Hi Jim,

Thank you for reaching out. We are sorry to hear that is what you think. We encourage our customers to do their research, because the legal limit for a contaminant reflects the level that protects human health AND that water systems can achieve using the best available technology. That means the legal level for some contaminants is higher than what the goal level is.

Take Arsenic, for example. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) set an arsenic maximum contaminant level (MCL) for public water supplies at 10 parts per billion (ppb). The EPA also sets the MCL Goal (MCLG) for drinking water. The MCLG is set at a level that uses the best available science to prevent potential health problems. The EPA has set the MCLG for arsenic at zero.

So if you had the water tested and had an arsenic level of 9 ppb, then your test results would show as “normal/passing.” But with the goal at 0 ppb, we would not use that water for drinking or cooking. We don’t want to scare you, but we do want to inform you, because we know there is a lot going on with drinking water. We hope that clears things up for you. Thanks again for reaching out and we hope you have a great day!

Very professional and knowledgeable
Explained the system completely on the benefits and savings you get

Jon,

Thank you very much for your feedback! We are happy to hear we could help you! Let us know if we can assist with anything else.

The team was very professional. Appreciated the appointment reminder call and the email with a picture of the technician.

Brian was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. He provided helpful information and recommended a solution for our water problem.

After he left, I visited their website for more information about the recommended solution. I was disappointed by the lack of details (size, installation requirements, cost, etc). Even the parent company's website does not provide details.

Hi Ron & Gail,

We are happy to hear that our team was professional, prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. Because every home is different, we don't have specific details on our website, because there is no standard that we can provide; We have never had 2 homes that were exactly the same. If you would like more information, we would be more than happy to go through that with you based off the specific conditions in your home. We are open Monday-Friday 9am-8pm, and on Saturday 10am-2pm if you would like to discuss this in further detail. Thank you for your feedback, and have a great day!

I was in Home Depot when a woman approached me and asked if I would like my water tested. I said yes, because I was curious. She took down my information and said Rainsoft would call me and make an appointment to come to my house. My appointment was on March 14th, 2018.

I did appreciate the email from the company with a picture of who would be coming to my house.

The sales representative was Nathan Darling. At first, he was very courteous & professional & friendly.
He did the several water tests and I observed.

My water did not have Iron or bacteria or calcium. He tested for Nitrates and showed on a meter that mine were 212 and said 50 is the maximum allowed by law in Michigan. After he showed me the results of the test (Only Nitrates) I said I was concerned & also interested, but I explained that I’m a widow and I don’t ever make immediate decisions.

At that point, he became confrontational & said “If you’re not interested then why did you request a water test. I said because I was curious. I have a new well & wanted to make sure my water was safe. He didn’t like that I wouldn’t commit. And during his time here he told me, at least 3 times, that he didn’t work on commission.

He pressured me by saying he could only give me discounts if I signed while he was here. I finally asked how much it would be. He said $3900 plus $1000 for the drinking water but if I signed that day he would give me the drinking water system for free. I explained that I would need to think about it. I have other financial obligations.

He looked around my great room and said “ Obviously, you can afford it.” I again said I never make a decision immediately and I would think about it. In my opinion, he was rather irritated at this point. He said: “You mean to tell me you can’t afford an interest free loan for $165 a month?”

I was tired of the confrontation and told him, as I had stated earlier, I don’t make decisions involving large amounts of money, on the spot. He packed up all of his equipment & handed me a card & said: if you change your mind call me & I’ll see if I can still get you any discounts. He is very personable & professional. Perhaps he just needs more sales training!

Additionally: I was concerned about the Nitrate levels so I had my water tested by Raven Analytical Labs in Roscommon, MI and the results showed:
MAXIMUM ACCEPTABLE LIMIT RESULTS OF MY WATER
10.0 MG/L 0.3 mg/l = ND
This proves that the testing Rainsoft did was fraudulent and a ploy to get me to buy their water treatment system!

RainSoft Water Treatment of Northern Michigan Response • Mar 29, 2018

Hi Jan,

We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention, because this is not how we want to conduct business. We have spoken to Nathan and want to offer our apologies that you were treated this way. We are so sorry, and we will be having him go through the additional training that you suggest.

Regarding the test results, we believe that you have the nitrates & total dissolved solids (TDS) tests confused. It was your TDS that tested at 208 ppm (parts per million.) Your nitrates tested at 0 ppm. We are more than happy to review the test results with you, and review what each test result means. We are open Monday-Friday 9am-8pm, and on Saturday 10am-2pm, if you would like to discuss this in further detail. Our apologies again, and thank you for your feedback.

Customer Response • Mar 30, 2018

I was very pleased and impressed that a Representative, from RainSoft, personally called me and apologized and also gave me an update on their meeting with Nathan. The fact that they appreciated my feedback tells me they are an upstanding company and they care about their clients. I have changed my opinion of this company and would recommend them.
