Review: My laptop computer was infested with viruses. I asked a friend if they knew someone reliable that I could take my computer to and [redacted] at Rent A Wreck was recommended to me. Besides fixing vehicles, I was told he had another business fixing computers. I took my laptop and battery in and dropped them off. I didn't hear from them for over a month; I called and left several messages. Finally someone called back and told me they could not work on my computer because I did not leave the battery with them. I explained that I had left the computer, battery and cord in a bag. I asked to speak to [redacted] who told me he would look for it. I waited and waited for a call and when I finally talked to someone I was told that the cord and battery were not there. I was very upset by this point and told them I would come pick up my computer and expected them to find the battery. I picked it up and was told that I would have to talk to [redacted] about the battery. Again, several messages later I talked to [redacted] who said he had fired the person who was supposed to be working on my computer but he could not replace my battery because he had no proof that I left it there. This man owns the business; he is responsible for what his employees do!!!! Want to warn other that this Owner does not want to take care of his responsibilities.Desired Settlement: Expect my battery replaced.

Response:

First of all, the person filling out the complaint never stepped foot in our shop, or called. Her friend [redacted] dropped off the laptop in a leather bag. When I took it out of the bag to take a look at it, there was no charger. I called [redacted] and let him know the charger was missing. He said he would look for it and call us back. The batter was in the laptop, but died due to not being charged. The battery was never taken out of the laptop.I told [redacted] we could purchase a new power cord for it, and charge him for the cost. The next time we heard from him he was irate and screaming and being belligerent. He was then told to collect his laptop as we would not be doing any further work on it.The person who did the work was never fired.

Response:

Mr.

[redacted] on 08/23/2013 was given a quote of $700 for a three day rental with

2100 miles. He then added an additional driver and Collision Damage Waiver

during the rental. I told him that I would charge him $700 now and the

difference on return. The statement that the price is solid is a lie. I have

been renting cars for 18 years these are open contracts Amounts due are subject

to final audit and this is industry standard. I would never say that. On return

they drove 2256 miles this added to the rental they also returned later then

they said this added to the rental. Mr. [redacted] was not charged for anything

that wasn't on the contract. They also smoked in the car which is a $300.00

fine that will be collected by an outside collection agency plus their fees.

Review: July 10 Friday afternoon I rented a ** cruiser from rent a wreck for a total of 7 days. July 14 I was pulled over and the car and the company of rent a wreck received 4 tickets. The tickets were for maintenance of lamps , a rear taillight out, a crack in the windshield , AND last but not least an expired inspection sticker. Also the horn did not work. I have been trying to return and exchange the car since the morning of July 15 so that I have a vehicle until Friday like I paid for . I have been giving the run around , sent to other locations just to have no one there , had my calls ignored , and still on this day July 16 have the same car which is illegal to even be on the road.Desired Settlement: Exchange the car or give me my money back for the days I couldn't drive it because I didn't want to risk getting pulled over again

Review: Rent A Wreck advises their customers that they cannot use their EZ Pass tag while using one of the rental cars. If the customer accidentally runs through an EZ Pass toll while using the rental car Rent A Wreck charges the customer's credit card $150 to "process" the unpaid toll claim that Rent A Wreck receives from the NJ Turnpike Authority. The act of processing the unpaid toll involves just sending it back to the Turnpike Authority and advising them to charge the driver instead of Rent A Wreck. When I called the Turnpike Authority they waived their $50 charge and simply charged the $1.50 toll to my EZ Pass account. However, I was still hit with the $150 processing fee by Rent A Wreck. I was unable to stop that charge since they had my credit card info. Since the Turnpike Authority charged a toll that I incurred while using another car it appears that I could have just used my EZ Pass in the rental car and my account would have been charged without any unpaid toll issue arising. I believe Rent A Wreck is purposely misinforming their customers that EZ Pass cannot be used in their cars to create a situation where drivers will of course forget that they don't have their EZ Pass and accidentally, out of sheer habit, drive through an EZ Pass toll and incur an unpaid toll charge so that they can easily collect $150 per incident when this happens. Again, the $150 charge is for "processing" which just involves redirecting the toll notice received by them back to the driver. This is a total scam and should be stopped. It is unbelievable that the Turnpike Authority easily waived the $50 fee since I was an EZ Pass account holder but Rent A Wreck still gets $150 for a $1.50 toll that had no effect on them. In addition, when I returned the car I told the sales person that I had accidentally run an EZ Pass toll (again, of course I did out of habit of having EZ Pass). His reply was "No problem, just the pay the notice when you get it." He did not mention the $150 feeDesired Settlement: I want the $150 charge refunded to my credit card and ultimately would like Rent A Wreck to discontinue this scam.

I purchased a vehicle from Country Motor Sales in Connellsville, PA. The advertised price was $4500 and I purchased the vehicle for $3800. The dealer list the frame as being repaired and the vehicle had a current PA inspection sticker on it showing that the vehicle was safe to drive. After getting the vehicle home and finding several issues I had it inspected myself from a PA inspection station. I was told that the vehicle was damaged beyond repair and unsafe to drive due to the frame being rotted. WHen I contacted the dealer he could not provide the place where the vehicle was inspected. and would not refund my purchase price of $3800. I called the PA DMV and traced the vehicles stickers back to SAMS Gas in Scottdale PA. I contacted SAMS gas and they said there was no record of ever inspecting the vehicle or repairing the frame. I believe the vehicle has illegal stickers and was never inspected by anyone. In addition, The dealership would only give me a printout of my receipt for the down payment of $1000. When I handed the owner the rest of the $3800 he placed it directly in his pocket. I asked for a full receipt and he said since he took $700 off he would have to recover his losses and I could use the Auto Solutions printout for my records.
