Review: I need your assistance in disputing the following charges from Roadrunner VIP Club from 2009 to present. Since 2009 they have been charging my credit card. No one at the point of purchase told me ANYTHING about an automatic renewal charge to my credit card yearly. They charged me 4 times before I noticed. I am more concerned that they are charging an EXPIRED credit card! The only time I was in this store was when I purchased a pair of tennis shoes. Unfortunately I don't remember the date, and I can't find the original charge. Nonetheless, the credit card they have on file has expired. It is illegal for them to charge an expired credit card, isn't it? I'm not sure why AMEX accepted these charges. I am able to provide the data from my Quicken that shows the unauthorized charges. I've attached the letter I sent to American Express after they disregarded the rest of my dispute. I have not checked to see if they have responded as they do not send email, they just post comments to their site.

Review: In 2012 I purchased a pair of shoes from this company. As part of this purchase I was given a free VIP membership. I was informed that this would be an automatic charge a few months after the purchase I went to my account on their website and cancelled my membership as it would not be worth the money for me. My account indicated that I was no longer a VIP member at that time. Yesterday I see a charge for $24.99 for the VIP club membership. I logged back into my account for the first time since 2012 and saw that it still indicated that I was not a VIP member and it did not show and transactions since my purchase in 2012. Unfortunately I do not have access to my bank statements from 2013 around this time but I do not remember being charged at that time. This is clearly some type of scam or very poor and deceptive business practices. To charge you an annual fee despite the fact that you have opted out of this charge already is despicable.Desired Settlement: I contacted them today and was told I would get a refund but was given no explanation as to why I was still being charged despite having opted out. I had already contacted my bank and disputed the card so I don't think that will work. I would like an explanation as to why they would continue charging this fee even though I opted out and my online account shows that I have opted out. I would like for them to confirm or deny the fact that they are charging people who've opted out in hopes that they would not notice. I want written confirmation that I have been removed from the VIP club and I would like to have my online account disabled immediately. I would also like to know if I was charged last year and just didn't notice. If that is the case I would like that amount refunded as well since I had opted out in 2012.

Review: Over one year ago, I and my wife purchased shoes and paid to be in the VIP program to receive a discount on our purchase. The employees and business made no representation that there would be recurring annual charges. In fact, the only reason I would have agreed to the purchase is if I understood that it would have been a one time charge. I just recently noticed a charge to my credit card of $24.99 (pending as of January 21st, 2013). It was my prior impression that Road Runner was a reputable shoe store, so I am just shocked that they would resort to these tactics to squeeze money from their customers years after their purchase and without them even knowing about it.Desired Settlement: My desirable outcome is 1) that Road Runner reverse the charge of $24.99 that was made to my credit card around the date of January 21, 2013, 2) confirmation that I and/or my wife have been removed from the VIP program, and 3) assurance that I will not receive future annual charges related to the VIP program.

Business

Response:

Review: I entered into an agreement with Roadrunner (in San Carlos CA) about becoming VIP member, which in turn would give me a discount on a purchase. After returning home to Norway (I have family in the bay area) I informed customer services after about a year that I would not continue my membership.

I received a writen email from Customer Care spesialist [redacted] on the 11th of june 2013 confirming that my membership would end on the 22nd. of July 2014 - that's over a year ago.

And yet, today, I see on my credit card bill, that my VIP membership has been billed. That is unacceptable.

I have had so much trouble with Customer services at Roadrunners acting om my requests in the past that I decided that the only option was to contact Revdex.com. I have had really good help form you in the past, although that was when I lived in AZ.Desired Settlement: I would like Roadrunners to really start thinking about its customer base and really read complaints and not just send automated emails as an answer. I have had so much trouble with having them stop sending advertising emails to my inbox that this latest irritation is really just a confirmation that Roadrunners sends emails/answers to complaints that are just full of empty words...

Desired outcome: pull back unauthorized billing to my credit card, and remove all creditcard information that would allow this business from billing me again .

Review: I had placed an order on March 8, 2014 order number 105-89843074320254, an item called "Marcy Folder Space Saver Bike" which cost in the amount of 134.99. Delivery date March 17-20. The item had never arrived to my home, I called Road Runner and they had claimed that FedEx had tried to reach me four times. However, this claim is false because due to an injured foot I have been home and neither FedEx came nor was a slip from FedEx left at the door. They proceeded to tell me that the item was being held at 29-01 Borden Ave Long Island City, NY as of March 21, 14. I told them that I was unable to receive the package and to have it sent back. The Road Runner representative stated that "if" they received the bike then they would refund my money. However, after talking to both Road runner and amazon, and amazon filing a A-Z claim against them I have yet to see my refund. I have called them numerous of times and all they have been doing is giving me the run around.Desired Settlement: refund complete amount

Review: Road Runner Sports charged my credit card for an unauthorized expense for a VIP Family Membership Service on December 9, 2015. I did not (and do not) authorize in any signed writing any recurring payment feature for the VIP Family service, nor am I interested in subscribing to this membership service.

Road Runner Sports is not authorized to obtain any recurring charge for an extension of the VIP Family service. This apparent automated approach to allegedly obtaining authorization via for a recurring charge is improper and represents at best a misleading attempt to obtain funds from an unsuspecting consumer without signed written authorization or a formal contract.Desired Settlement: I request that Road Runner Sports apply a credit to my credit card account for this apparent automatic subscription to the VIP Family Membership service ($26.69 charge applied to my card account on December 9, 2015). Please also immediately terminate the service.

Review: I bought a pair of shoes from the local Road Runners Store in 2010. I have not bought anything since then. I discovered this month that on 10-20-2014 I was charged $[redacted] on my credit card for Road Runners VIP club. Since I did not join this club I called the credit card company on 11-3-14 and filed a dispute over the charge. I checked further and found I was also charged #[redacted] 10-7-2012 and 10-9-2013 . On 11-10-14 I called the customer service number I found on the internet and spoke to an agent from this club. She said she would rebate to my credit card the amount in dispute for 2014. I asked for a rebate on the other two charges and she would not do that. I asked why I was put into the VIP club and she said that it is the store policy to put all the customers in the VIP club at the time of sale. I thing the company is totally wrong to do this and because I didn't catch it before I have paid $** for services I did not request. I think they should refund that money to me.Desired Settlement: The company would pay me the $** they charged for 2012/2013.

Review: I was offered a free foot analysis using their video analysis and pressure plate system. During my free analysis, the employee opened a package of insoles and molded them to my feet. I used these insoles to try on shoes, but decided not to purchase any shoes. After my fitting, it was disclosed to me that the "Custom insoles" that were molded to my feet during my free assessment would cost $80...(Or $71 if I decided to pay to become a "VIP" member). I had no previous information given to me to suggest that during the free analysis, they were molding an $80 pair of insoles for me. This should have been disclosed to me at the time instead of after the fact. As a consumer, this practice feels manipulative and coercive.Desired Settlement: The experience should be more transparent. When you have the "free" assessment, the option of receiving the orthotics should be presented. If you do not want/need them they should not be molded.

Review: I am a customer of road runner sports retail store in Costa Mesa California. Road Runner Sports has a reward program called VIP. The VIP program has a initiation price and yearly renewal. I have been part of the VIP program for a couple of years. In September 2014, I went to Costa Mesa road runner retail store to buy shoes. At checkout the staff informed me that my VIP membership has expired. I explained to the staff that it was not the time for my renewal. The staff informed me that their system indicated my VIP membership had expired and that I needed to renew to get my discount today. I proceed to pay $19.99 for my membership renewal. On October 28, 2014 I got a debit card transaction from Road Runner Sports for $24.99. I called Road Runner Sport Customer service at ###-###-#### to inquire about the charge. Customer service informed me that the charge was for my yearly VIP renewal. I informed Customer Service that I paid my yearly renewal in September at Costa Mesa Retail Store. The customer service representative spent 5 minutes investigating the issue and concluded that I had paid the renewal. She informed me that "their systems" are not connected and that was why I was charge again. She credited my bank account for $24.99 and apologized for the error.Desired Settlement: 1) Connect your retail and corporate accounting systems. 2) Get approval from all customers prior to any debit transactions.

I was frustrated disagreeing with you staff at retail store on my membership renewal date. I also found it inconvenient to spend time resolving this accounting issue. Also, I could have been double charged for my VIP membership.

Very Respectfully,

Review: The company committed an unauthorized transaction on my credit card for a membership that wasn't under my name. I paid for a gift transaction for my mother (with her present) using her membership several months ago. This week apparently her membership was up for renewal and her credit card on the account came up expired. Instead of contacting her, the only member listed on the account, the company searched transactions made on the account and charged my credit card, even though the name did not match with the account, which goes against FTC regulations.Desired Settlement: I want to make the company aware they have this glitch and that it's against all practice to commit an unauthorized transaction, that taking other cards used with an account and charging them is against credit card practice and law, and violates privacy rights.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[While I have received a refund of the charge the company made, the problem that started the complaint has not been resolved. The company refers to this being my VIP account, however it is not, and it is not even in my name. They charged my credit card, which did not have a name matching the VIP account, nor did they have written authorization to charge my credit card, which is not per Payment Card Industry Standards. Therefore, I do not consider the core complaint resolved. ]

Review: I never authorized to be charged for another year of the VIP membership, I paid the one time fee for a 1 year membership, this is fraud for you charging me again for something I didn't sign up for.

Business

Response:

I noticed a charge on my credit card for $24.99 for a "VIP" membership one year after purchasing a few items from their Costa Mesa, CA store.

I recall signing up for their store membership, which I believed was not unlike memberships at grocery and some retail stores (I have a Vons and Sport Chalet membership that costs me nothing,) however, I was never informed by the staff at Road Runner that there was a yearly fee, nor did they mention the VIP status of the membership.

Review: Unrequested VIP membership charges.

Discovered that I have had my NFCU card charged for Roadrunner VIP membership for 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. I have never received post mail or email from Roadrunner explaining these charges.Desired Settlement: I would like to be removed from the Roadrunner VIP membership, and have my charges from 2012-2015 refunded, for a total of 99.96. I have not utilized, nor did I request utilization of any of Roadrunner's services.

Review: I had cancelled my subscription to RoadRunner VIP Club membership a couple of months after buying some shoes from them. I personally called them up told them I was no longer interested in receiving their catalog or their discounts. Approximately 2 years after my cancellation, I see a mysterious charge for $24.99 on my credit card for the same VIP services. Interestingly, they billed me on a Friday before the Memorial Day weekend. Almost appears that they were counting on me not to check my statement before a holiday weekend.Beware of RoadRunner VIP Club services - worthless catalog, overpriced shoes, sneaky billing practices even after cancellation.Desired Settlement: The membership amount charged to my credit card should be refunded immediately

Review: On 10/16/12 Road Runner Sports automatically charged my credit card for $44.99 VIP Membership. Their membership fee is $24.99 so this is a $20 overcharge. This is the second year in a row they have done this. I have requested that my membership be canceled and $44.99 refunded via check mailed to me (the credit card they have on file is no longer valid). I have emailed them three times with no results. The charge was for an annual renewal fee

for a VIP savings club that Ms.

allowed Ms. [redacted] to save 10% on her purchases with Road Runner Sports. The membership is a yearly membership, and

automatically renews at $44.99.

Following Ms. [redacted]’s VIP Club purchase she should have received a

Regards,

Review: I received a $50 gift card and tried to redeem it both online and by phone. The online site would not let me enter the gift card without also entering a credit card, which I learned afterwards was charged. Three calls to the company only yielded requests by them for me to join their VIP club. While they now claim that the charges will be removed from my credit card in 'a few days', I doubt that is true. And, the only reason that they were willing to say that they would do so rather than charging the gift card was because I challenged their fraudulent behavior.Desired Settlement: This is clearly a coordinated scam to both charge for gift cards and then also bill a credit card. It is impossible to simply enter a gift card number and order merchandise; a credit card has to be also entered, and then is charged. The person on the phone then claims to have 'no idea how that might happen'. This is fraud in its most simple form. In addition to the billing adjustment, I also would like the company to change its billing practices and to call me with an apology.

Regards,

Review: I purchased a pair of running shoes from RoadRunner Sports and used a coupon code (RMNVIP14) that also required signing up for a membership through the website. Upon membership the coupon states "20% off site wide". However, when I applied it and purchased it, they failed to honor the discount. They now claim that there are certain shoes that they cannot apply the coupon to, but there is no disclosure on their website at all and the coupon clearly states "site wide". This is not simply a coupon issue, because I was coerced into purchasing an account through the website in order to be eligible for this discount. This is clearly a case of "but-for" the promised discount I would not have made the purchase here or paid for the membership.

It is misrepresentation and consumer fraud. What they have done is clearly illegal, and while I'm not yet an attorney, I will be graduating from law school in a month. I know what they can and cannot do.Desired Settlement: They need to properly honor the coupon instead of falsely advertising on their website.

Review: In March of 2014 I went to Road Runner Sports in [redacted] and made a large purchase. My salesperson (who was also my cashier) suggested I join their VIP club. I don't remember the purchase price of the club or the percentage that I received off my purchase that day, but it made financial sense for me to join. This was an impulse purchase made at the register that I agreed to simply because it saved me money that day. I was given no further information nor did I sign any papers with respect to this club.

Last week, I found on my credit card that I was auto-renewed in this membership. When I called to complain, I was told that they receive MANY complaints with respect to this auto renew, in fact the customer service agent guessed why I was calling before I even told him. I was upset that my credit card was fraudulently charged without my consent as this constitutes theft. They were quick to refund the $24.99 on my card and remove me from the auto-renew going forward. However, this is a shady business practice. I caught the charge and had it reversed, but I'm sure there are many people who do not. Please keep in mind that I signed nothing giving them consent to charge my card.

I asked to be forwarded to a manager. I left a voice mail and asked for my call to be returned, but I have not heard back from him.Desired Settlement: This company should not be allowed to auto-renew customers without their consent. They should need to have the signature of approval for each customer that gets auto-renewed.

Thank you for your inquiry into a request from [redacted], [redacted]. Ms. [redacted] purchased a VIP savings club membership on 3/4/14. At the time of Ms. [redacted]’s purchase she should have been verbally notified that the VIP club automatically renews annually for $24.99, and she can cancel at any time. Review: I made an online purchase at www.roadrunnersports.com on 1/7/2016. I entered online promo codes before my checkout. When I completed my order, my total was $57.57. I received an email confirmation but it had no indication of how much my order was for. The only substantive info in the email from Road Runner was a cr and order number, no price. I know my order was for $57.57 because I purchased through a corporate perks website which gave me the purchase amount. I never received any confirmation Road Runner about how much I paid. When I received my physical order, the receipt in the box had the total as $78.43. I called customer service and they said I used a code for VIP members but was not a VIP member, so they unilaterally changed the order amount. I gave no authorization for the new amount nor did I know of this change until I received the order. They said they would only refund $15.68. However, that discount still does not result in $57.57. The other code I entered gave me the price of $57.57 but they will not honor that price now. I never authorized the new charge of $78.43. Their website doesn't indicate that if a code doesn't work, they will unilaterally change your order amount nor should they be allowed to do that.Desired Settlement: Refund of an additional $5.18 so that my purchase is for the amount I authorized. That amount was also the amount on the Road Runner website when I checked out from the online purchase. Email confirmation confirming the amount of the purchase and more details than cr and order number. The website should not permit a promo code to be successfully applied if it is invalid. At the very least, there should be clear disclosures on the website about promo codes. Road Runner should also not be allowed to change a credit card charge without approval from the customer.
