Light was not installed after completion of construction. Called office twice without results. E-mailed Mark C and no response.
My contract states that a motion detector light will be installed (please refer to file).Alachua County Code requires this.
The building project of the sunroom was finished on July 11,2018.At that time the installation person said that the electrician was on vacation. He asked for payment and I paid the full amount at that time trusting that the company would finish the installation. After about 10 days I called the office and spoke to Jessica. She said that the electrician was back and would come the next day. Nothing happened. A second time that I called on August 2, the person said that Jessica was on the phone with the electrician and that she would call me back. Again nothing happened.
On August 3 I sent an E-mail to Mark C asking to please resolve the problem.
Sofar I have not received any response.

Desired Outcome

Finish the job with the installation of the light and have the County inspect the site.

Sauer & Sons Construction Response • Aug 08, 2018

Our electrician was out of the country for two weeks. WE apologize but the light and switch have now been installed and a final inspection has been scheduled for 8/9/18. We hope this will satisfactorily conclude the matter. If you have any questions you may contact Ms.

The light was installed promptly and it was done well. The inspector came today (August 10) and approved the project.
My thanks go to the Revdex.com for their prompt actions.

We would like our porch completed and a Final Inspection Approved. Would also like all substandard Lumber replaced with A Grade Materials
We signed our contract for a porch addition with Sauer & Sons on March 1, 2018. When we met with Mark our sales person, we asked how long the building process would take. He told us it normally took 4-6 weeks to get the drawing done and permit issued. Once issued, our porch build would take 9-12 days. Though Sauer & Sons was the highest BID we received, we felt confident that Mark would deliver on his time line.
Our permit request was made on March 18.2018 and approved and received on April 24, 2018.
Today is July 14, 2018 and yet another promise of finishing the job has been passed. Over the course of the past 3 months we have been promised that workman would be out, only to see the week past without workman and no contact from Sauer & Sons explaining why and when they would be out. Today we were promised the roofer would be out to complete the shingles and yet another no show and no call. As you can see from pictures provided, the material used and workmanship was less than acceptable.

Desired Outcome

We want our porch completed and all inferior B Grade materials replaced with A Grade Lumber. We would also like the Final Inspection made as soon as possible. We are very tired of dealing with this companies broken promises and lack of communication.

Sauer & Sons Construction Response • Jul 31, 2018

This project is now complete. The final inspection has been approved by Levy county building department, and the homeowners have paid in full. Sauer and Sons considers this matter closed

Customer Response • Jul 31, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Our project was finally completed and inspected. My advise to the next person considering this contractor to do their project is keep looking. You will be just as disappointed as we were in the whole process.

Improperly installed a concrete pad for a birdcage which allowed fiber glass exposed on the surface.

The installed tile floor is lesser quality.

The concrete pad was not finished properly which brought fiber mesh to the surface making bumps in the concrete surface. Sauer and Sons says they used fiber mesh in the concreted to make it stronger and that the finish meets "industry standards" which is not the case. The exposed fiber mesh on the surface is not industry standard. I live in The Villages and no one had this type of problem. I have spoken with other concrete companies who told me that fiber mesh should not be exposed on the surfaced. Sauer and Sons finished the concrete at nighttime without exterior lights. I had to use my golf cart for lighting. The person who did the finish work could not see what he was doing and therefore he troweled the surface incorrectly causing the concrete surface to have exposed fiber mesh. From my own research this is not industry standard The company refuses to acknowledge the problem.

We ordered floor tile through Sauer and Sons. We picked out the tile from one floor company but they ordered through another floor company. The tile we received is a lesser quality from the sample tile piece we selected. The tile manufacture is International Wholesale Tile. We are working with the flooring company that ordered the tile and they came to our home and took pictures of the tile floor compared to the sample piece we used to select the tile. The flooring company acknowledge the tile we received is not the same tile. The flooring company is working with International Wholesale Tile to remedy the problem. This has been going on for months and nothing more is getting done. We have a contract with Sauer and Sons for the floor tile. They are responsible to resolve the problem we are experiencing.

I attached a 10 page document outlining the problems I previously mentioned and to also document the overall problems we have experienced with Sauer and Sons. This contract has put considerable stress on me and my wife and we are asking that Sauer and Sons to compensate us for the concrete work and work with flooring company and International Wholesale Tile to resolve the problem we have with the floor tile. I have also filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General who has contacted Sauer and Sons for a response. We presently owe the company approximately $15,000. Based on the problems we have experienced the value of their work does not support the amount we owe them. We hired this company to enclose the lanai and install a birdcage with some electrical work. This two month job has taken over 6 months. This company subcontracts all of the work to other businesses. They provided no oversight of the subcontractors which cause considerable problems in quality and control. This contract has been a nightmare for us. We have already paid the company over $31,000. We are asking that they reduce the remaining amount of what we owe to compensate us for all the problems, work and time it has caused for me and my wife. Please read the 10 page attachment which better explains the problems we have had with this company.

Desired Outcome

As explained we want Sauer and Sons to reduce what we presently owe them. They failed to meet the terms of the contract by failing to properly supervise the subcontractors they hired to do all the work. Because of they failed to meet the terms of the contract we had to expend considerable time and effort to get all the problems resolved. Sauer and Sons is responsible for the work and to ensure its done correctly and timely. This did not occur. Therefore we are requesting a reduction in the owed contract amount to compensate us for the problems Plus we need Sauer and Sons to resolve the problems we currently have with the installed floor tile. We ordered the floor tile through this company and we did not receive what we ordered. Our contract is with Sauer and Sons and they are responsible for the work to include the floor tile. They have to get this resolved with the flooring company and the tile manufacture.

Re: Revdex.com CASE#: ***

To Whom It May Concern:
We wish to le a response to the Hohirner complaint dated May 25, 2018. We have read their
complaint, and also spoken to them on site. We made a site visit to investigate the issues on April 4,
2018. Upon visiting we agreed that Custom Windows Systems still needed to service their door and
lockset, which was completed on May 25, 2018. They also had issues with the tile and the berorete
concrete pad that was laid for their birdcage. We have spoken to concrete experts and also referred to
the Concrete Institute guidelines, 3000 PSI bercrete will in fact show bers that are mixed in with the
aggregate to strengthen the mix. We have executed thousands ofooncrete jobs, each time we use
bererete; bers are exposed. This is the industry standard for this mixture, and theirs is no different
than any other pour we have done in the past. it was noticed and spoken about that this was not an
issue until the concrete was painted. While making a site visit it was also noticed that the oor prep
requested by the Hohirners was not completed properly by the oor nishing company. If in fact they
wanted no bers to show through the paint, it should have been sanded and sealed, and then painted
with a heavy coat as they wished. Onoe again, this concrete is within industry standards for 3000 PSI
hercrete; it is structurally correct and nished as such.

Upon speaking to t.he I-lohimers about their floor tile, it was observed that there was a small
diiferenee in the luster/sheen of the sample as compared to their actual oor. ln our research we have
found that samples will vary from lot to lot and we believe this ooring sample follows that industry
rule. It must he noted that the tile that the ***s picked out was found and purchased from the
exact same manufacturer and type. The only difference is a slight variance in the luster/sheen. S
and Sons facilitated the installation of the exact tile that the customer chose, and the installation was
exceptional. At this point ***, who provided and installed the tile, as per the l-lohimers
order, should be held if there is any warranty issue on the tile.
In closing, alter meeting with the ***s, it is our opinion that the l-lohitnets wish to have an
adjustment to their nal bill. We realize that construction projects may take longer and involve
customers more than is ideal; but the results of their job is beautiful, and has passed nal inspection.
S*** and Sons has followed up on any needed services and complaints as appropriate. At this point, it
seems to be a negotiation with the homeowner, as they led the exact same complaint more than a
month go with Seniors Vs Crime in The Villages, FL. There is no wrongdoing or negligence on the
part of S and Sons; what remains is speaking to the Hohirners directly in order to resolve what
issues remain and inconveniences that have been incurred. If you have any trther questions, please
feel free to contact me at 352-351-0799.

Than you
Tom S

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
S*** and Sons continues to fail to take responsibility for their poor workmanship. If their work met industry standards it would be obvious I would not complain but they do not. The concrete pad was poured in early November 2017. They did not start the work until the afternoon and could not finish the concrete surface until it was getting dark around 6:30pm They left one worker at the site to finish the entire job. They had no exterior lights and the one worker could not speak english. They failed to have a supervisor on site. I contacted S and Sons and told them they needed to get someone at the site with exterior lights. I was told they could not do that and ask if I could ask my neighbors if they had any exterior lighting. This is industry standard?? I thought their response was frankly ridiculous. I was concerned how the one worker could finish the concrete in the dark so I used my golf cart lights to move around the work site so the worker could at least have some lighting. Is that industry standard?? I was out there for 3 1/2 hours moving the golf cart around. Tom S never mentioned that in his response. Because of insufficient lighting the worker improperly finished the concrete surface causing fiber mesh material to come to the surface. Tom S says that its industry standard to have fiber mesh on the surface of the concrete. They knew I planned to have it eventually stained and sealed. Throughout The Villages people have their driveways stained and sealed. It is not common to have new concrete sanded or grind down before applying stain and sealer. If the work is done properly concrete can be stained and sealed once it properly cures. I waited four months to have the concrete stained and sealed. The company I hired to do the staining and seal is well known in The Villages and they do beautiful work. The concrete pad was improperly finished which caused fiber mesh to push up concrete bumps on the surface. After it was stained and sealed you can easily see the imperfections in the finish. How can that be industry standard. I contacted two concrete stain and decorating companies in The Villages and they both looked at the finished concrete and stated they have never seen fiber mesh on the surface. This is not industry standard. The contract calls for the surface to have a "brushed finish" not covered with fiber mesh bumps. Tom S fails to acknowledge that they had no supervisor on site when the concrete was finished and that they provided no lighting. You can't finish concrete in the dark.

In regards to the problem with the french door. This door was installed in December 2017 and we have been unable to lock it. The installation was so poor that when the installers were finished the door handle actually fell off. Is that Industry standard? We demanded that S and Sons have someone else finish installing the french doors. Their supervisor Mitch tried adjusting the door but he was not able to fix the door so it would lock. They finally agreed to have a factory tech fix the door. He came out and said he would have to order all new door mechanism. We waited two months for the parts. We are seasonal and had to return up North. We made arrangements for a friend to meet the factory tech. Finally about two weeks ago the factory rep came out. From what my friend said all they did was adjust the door and said it was fixed and would now lock. I had my home watch person look at the door last week and he is very knowledgeable about home improvement. He said when he arrived the door was not even locked and in fact it would not lock. He said you can lock the door when its open but when you close the door it will not lock. This was the exact same problem we had with the door from the beginning. They have wasted months of time and the door still will not lock!! We need someone to fix this door.

The problem we have with the door is only an example of the problems we have had with S and Sons. They are a company that simply sale the job and then subcontracts out all the work. They failed to provide any supervision of the subcontractors. The electrical contractors installed out door soffit lights and outdoor outlets. It took two separate visits to complete the work. There was problems with their work and it took 8 repair visits before the job was complete.

S*** and Sons purchased the tile that was installed in our enclosed lanai. The installed tile is a cheaper version of the sample we picked out. It is S and Sons responsibility to fix the problem. We were asked to pick out tile and they would purchase it and have it installed. We picked out tile at Great Lakes Flooring in Wildwood, Fl. S and Sons took it upon themselves to buy the tile from *** in Fruitland Park, Fl. The tile they purchased and installed is a cheaper looking version than the quality tile we wanted. I'm sure they saved money by buying the tile from ***. *** has been to our home and acknowledge that the tile we received is not the same quality from what we originally picked out. *** was to work with International Wholesale Tile, the manufacture to find out why the tile we received is not the same quality we picked out. So far nothing has been done. Our contract is with S and Sons to purchase and install the tile. They are responsible to remedy the problem. They need to take action against *** and International Wholesale Tile not simply ignore their responsibility. We have tile in our lanai that is a cheaper version from what we originally wanted. We demand a remedy.

I have spent many hours of my time over the last seven months dealing with problems created by S and Sons. The work should have taken no more than two months. I am still working to resolve issues to protect me and my wife. It has been seven months since they started the job. If S and Sons is unable or unwilling to take responsibility to remedy the problems we have with the concrete, tile and french door, we are requesting they work with us to reduce the amount we owe them so we can find another contractor that has the ability to correct the problems.

Revdex.com Complaint *** Rebuttal

To Whom It May Conern:

Once again we are responding to Mr. ***â??s Revdex.com complaint. I will try to address
each item only in respect of simplifying and coming to a resolution Mr. *** stated that the
individual finishing the concrete was left until dark, was not an English speaking person. and did not
have suicient lighting. I apologize that Mr. *** had to assist my concrete subcontractor
with nishing the concrete. Large pours take longer due in fact to the drying and the gross volume of
concrete. The concrete slab was poured by Todd *** of ***. The concrete
was 3000 PS1 bercrete, which was provided and delivered by SRM Concrete. Once again, we have
spoken to all parties involved, it is our opinion the concrete is satisfactorily nished and mixed, it has
no structural aws, or obvious defects. That has been assessed by all patties involved. Mr.
***s issue continues to he the bers that protrude from this type of concrete, l am unaware of any
remedy for this; as this is the way bercrete looks when finished.
We have also talked to Melissa M, owner of *** who installed the tile. This
tile was in fact the very same tile presented to us by Mr. ***; this tile is the exact
manufacturer's SKU number and was purchased from the manufacturer that was chosen by Mr.
***. Upon speaking to Melissa and staff; we were told that there would he slight variations from
lot to lot. I, Torn S, am a Florida state certied home inspector: I have seen variations in tile,
pavers, laminate, and carpet from lot to lot. It is widely known and understood in the industry that lots
may have slight color variations and/or nish variations due to the manufacturing process. This is what
we collectively believe is Mr. Hohirner's issue with the tile. Everyone involved noticed a slight
sheen variation from Mr. ***'s sample and the tile that was installed. We are attempting to
work with the *** to nd an acceptable resolution with Mr. ***. The
installation of the tile is near perfect.
The electrical on the *** job was done by ***, owned by Mr. Jeff
S***. The issues with the electrical system were remedied and xed by another electrical
company prior to Mr. *** ling the complaint. There are no further issues at this time.
Electrical has passed inspection with Sumter County Building Department.
Lastly, the French doors have an open service ticket with***.
Custom Windows is several weeks behind; in some cases months with servicing their products. This is
out of our control but it must be noted that we speak on a weekly basis with our reps and are addressing
this problem as quickly as possible.
In closing, Mr. *** is absolutely rigrt in saying that we use qualied subcontractors
as required by state codes and the needs of the job. S and Sons is not different than any other
building contractor in doing such. At this point, we need Mr. *** to reach out to us so we
can speak to him and reach an acceptable means ofsatisfying his demands to remedy his complaints. I
look forward to hearing from him and will reach out to him as well.
Thank you
Tom S
