Re: ID [redacted]

As of 8/16/2014, all issues have been resolved and we are satisfied with the outcome, however, the township inspector still needs to give final signoff before the project can be considered complete.

Review: On January 23rd I signed a contract with Mr. Waldo A[redacted] and his wife Nataliya (Rosie) to remodel my basement. Waldo told me he could start doing work Monday, January 27th and that the entire basement would be finished in 6 weeks. The first 4 weeks they were at my house nearly every day transforming my basement. They finished about 80% of the basement after the first 4 weeks of our contract.

Since then I have been given the run around week after week about when they were looking to finish my basement. I met with Nataliya (Rosie) in early June to pay an installment for past work, and she had me pay for materials for the last 10-20% of the basement. I told Nataliya I needed the basement done by Monday, June 30th because I had furniture getting delivered July 1st. She said okay and I thought she would follow through on her end. The work was not done, as a worker came for approximately 1.5 days which was not enough to get the job completed.

After daily phone calls and texts to Nataliya she finally answered Friday, August 8th and told me she would call me Monday (8/11) to discuss the work schedule for the following week. She told me that she should have my basement finished by Wednesday (8/13). I received NO phone call Monday or anytime during the week. Attempts to get a hold of Nataliya by phone and text message have gone unanswered to this day. At this point I thought it was best to reach out to the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: I want my basement job finished.

Due to delay in getting a custom order countertop the project completion was delayed. Countertop should be ready today, so we will be able to complete the job by the end if the week. I will schedule directly with the customer for the work to be done on Thursday or Friday.

Review: We live in a retirement community and wanted to replace and enlarge the old brick patio in the back of the house. The owner came out for the final measurement 6-27-14. He told us his crew would have the job done in about 4 days. He was going to dig up all the plants surrounding the patio and replace them when finished. The new patio was not allowed to extend beyond the side of the focused like the old one did so 5 feet of dirt would be left on the side of the house where the old one was removed. He said his men would replace the grass on top of that with the excess grass from the other areas. He said the patio would be a little higher so there was not a big drop from the patio doors. I asked about a step to get down from the patio to the ground and he said that would not be necessary. He was going to take the leftover dirt and make it level all the way around so the ground and patio would be almost level. This was a big concern since my 78 year old mother is unsteady and she likes to take her dog out back on a leash. He assured us there would be no need for a step. He was going to take the papers to the township right away to get the permit which he said would take about 2 weeks.

July 18 I contacted the township and found the papers had just been dropped off on the 15th, about 3 weeks after he said he would get them right over there. I finally received the contract to sign Aug. 1st. They would be starting either 8-11 or 8-12. They actually started towards the end of the week. The nightmare lasted just over 3 weeks. All of the plants that they dug up died. The sod that was pulled up was pulled in the same spot for the entire time. Not only did that grass die but the ground where it was laying for 3 weeks is now dead too. One poor worker was doing all the prep work by himself and carting all the trash out front to take away. At one point he carted all the wood and debris from the old patio out front and deposited it on the front lawn. He had no space in his truck and left it all on our front lawn for 4-5 days. It was a hazard with the nails sticking out of the wood not to mention the grass underneath it turned nice and yellow.

Phone calls to them we're fruitless. We were never able yo reach the owner again and always had to deal with Rosa. She has to be the nastiest person you'd ever want to talk to and has no sense of customer service. More than once she even yelled at my 78 tear old mother on the phone when she called to find out when someone would be returning. We were told they were too busy with another job. Of course, their contract was spelled out for when payments had to be made and they made sure they got their money on time.

Finally, the end of the first week of September they said they were done and tried to collect the balance of their final payment. All of the plants died so they were not replanted. The grass that had been sitting in a pile for 3 weeks was laid out on that 5 x10 area and now is just laying there very lumpy. The dirt that wasn't thrown out was laid all around the edge of the patio mixed with gravel and stone. The drop from the patio door to the patio is slightly higher than before and from the patio to the ground is definitely not level. There is about a 6 inch drop and if he had done the step that we asked for there wouldn't be a problem. The surrounding ground where they laid the dead sod is a very big trip hazard and we are getting estimates from landscapers now to repair the damage and to get rid of the stones and gravel in the surrounding dirt and lay clean topsoil. This is going to cost a small fortune to fix.

Needless to say, I did not pay the balance that was due because I do not consider the job to be finished. We said we wanted to see the bossman who came out originally and who said he would be on site to make sure things went well. It's been about 2 weeks now and not a word from anyone. The whole experience with them has been a nightmare and I can't understand how they are able to remain in business.Desired Settlement: What I think they should do is to fix there mess by putting a step in so that my mother can step down off the patio without tripping and repair the landscaping mess that they left us with. In reality though, I do not trust them to ever step foot on my property again and they should consider their bill paid in full unless they would like us to invoice them for all of the repairs we have to make. I want this nightmare with them to be over.

Response:

After personally meeting [redacted], Solution People has agreed to spread more fill dirt on around the patio as a courtesy, and we will seed the area where the pile of dirt was on Monday or Tuesday, Sept 29 or 30. We will also bring you 6 perennials. A payment in full for the stamped concrete patio will be expected the same day the courtesy work is done.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: we came to a different resolution than what they had proposed. My dealings with this company are now over and this case can be closed. Thank you.

Review: Solution People, Inc. was hired to finish the basement, they delayed the project by 16 weeks and kept pushing for the payment with incomplete milestone. Finally they walked out of the project with incomplete work since June 4th 2014.Desired Settlement: Due to the delay in the project and unprofessionalism we prefer to cancel the contract and we do not want to deal with this service provider anymore. Dealing with them has caused lot of stress to me and my family and missed the opportunity to invite my father to stay with us in the summer of 2014.

Response:

Solution People was hired to do a basement project by [redacted] in March and work started in the second half of the month after obtaining the necessary permits from the local municipality: [redacted] Township (permit copy attached). Solution People clearly stated to [redacted] that this type and size of projects typically take about six weeks, but since The [redacted] family was planning a vacation which will interrupt the working process, then the project will take longer. Basement projects also require inspections from the township which Solution People scheduled and passed (several items had to be addressed on one of the inspections, which Solution People addressed and all inspections passed – copies of inspections approvals attached). Getting through the three different inspections also added to the timeframe of the project (considering also that we had to wait for some of the inspections due to township schedule and working hours).

Regarding the payments schedule (approved and signed by [redacted] in the Contract), all payments were scheduled after major milestones of work were sufficiently completed (more than 80% completed). Some of the milestones were scheduled for work that is completed and inspected (such as rough electric, rough plumbing, framing and insulation). Solution People had just completed one of the specified in the contract milestones (first coat of paint on walls and ceiling done) on June 4th and was expecting the agreed upon payment for that milestone ($3,000). We were about 15 days from the completion of the project with more than 80 % of the work completed and a third of the total amount still not paid, when [redacted] decided that he will not provide any more payments per the signed contract, essentially breaching the contract. Through numerous emails and text messages Rosie from Solution People notified **. and [redacted]. [redacted] that it is not acceptable for the work to continue if the payments are not provided as per the milestones scheduled and that work will resume and be completed within 15 days as soon as the outstanding payment is made. [redacted] did not respond for a week and he decided to just send emails back and forth making unreasonable demands until it was almost 10 days afterwards and he demanded that the work be done in 5 days and still there was no mentioning of making the outstanding payment or acknowledging that he will provide any payments in the future even if any more work is completed. At this point Solution People notified [redacted] again that we need 15 days after his outstanding payment is processed to complete the project. He insisted that, if work is not completed in 5 days, he does not want Solution People Inc. on his property.

Due to the seemingly intentionally delayed responses from [redacted] and unreasonable demands in the end, it was obvious that he just did not want Solution People to complete the project. His last two emails (copies of emails attached) made it very clear that he will not follow through on the contract signed with Solution People and had no intention to make the agreed upon payment, which is the reason that the project was cancelled from the side of Solution People Inc. We notified the township and pulled our company from the permit. Unfortunately it was very difficult at times to talk to [redacted] and explain him the construction process – he just refused to listen and understand many of the company and industry procedures which is the reason behind his confusion about the completion of the milestones. As I mentioned above, at least four of the milestones were for work done that was inspected and approved by the township inspector (obviously showing that this work was sufficiently completed).

At this point Solution People Inc. is preparing an invoice of all work completed a la cart (no discounts apply since the contract was not honored) to establish the exact amount of the outstanding balance due on this project.
