Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: The Company should have informed us from the very beginning that if it did the preliminary work, it could not complete the repairs in a timely mannerWe would then have sought another contractor to do all of the work On the contrary, Ryan informed us on August 10th that the project coordinator would be in touch with us and come to our house the following week Sterling only informed us that they were running behind after I called and complained That there was no contract in place is not an excuseWe would have signed one immediately if it had been presented to us Money was not an issue as our insurance company is covering the work done Sterling is not as naive as it claims It has to realize that when a client hires them, they are hiring them for the complete job, not just a portion of itAnd it is not true that we only would have had to "wait a bit" to complete this job We have already been waiting for someone from Sterling to complete the job for a month and a half already, and to date, no one has contacted us This is unacceptable as the bathroom cannot be used and an elderly and disabled woman is paying the price for Sterling's lack of responsibility and honesty Fortunately, our insurance company has now removed Sterling from its "preferred provider" list and they have procured another contractor for us Sincerely, [redacted] ***

This project had a project manager that did not handle this project wellHe is no longer with the companyA new project manager was assigned to the project and the job was completed on 10/30/A completed survey and certificate of completion has been signed by the clientwith a closing statement " The original project manager ( Mitch ) and his subcontractors I would rate lowOnce Mark took over as project manager everything went more smoothly, quicker, and I was satisfied with the final project "

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:It is unfortunately obvious that Steve H [redacted] has absolutely no idea what his employees do and say in regards to their BusinessI have witnesses that can corroborate that I was told specifically I would receive $in my pocket, after the entire $1,deductible was also completely eradicated, due to the WORK that I actually performedI even asked the question to ensure I was not misunderstanding the circumstance, yet I am accused of fabricating some abrogation of their "policy"? Perhaps there should be better understanding of what their employees say and do, when reprisenting their companyAnd I am quite certain that my demanding that a ventilation shaft be available for my bathroom, through the new roof is not exclusive to my standardsThe work which was done and redone and then redone a third time, is still not done well! And still No One once has ever addressed the DESTRUCTION OF My PERSONAL PROPERTY, as any concern?!? Nor the increased work I was then responsible for, in regards to cleaning up damage that was done by their workersNo way, will I accept such offensive and unprofessional behaviour from anyone taking my money and inconveniencing me for months, with no concern for my home or property! We are sorry that MRS [redacted] feels that thing were not handled the correct way as we strive to provide all of our customers with quality work and great customer serviceWe received this job after some other company e had completed all of the demolition and drying of their home We were hire to repair the home which included mostly drywall repair and flooringAll of the Items that needed repaired were all none structural itemsBeing none structural Items these Items do not merit the need for a permit If for instance a car had driven into their home we would have contacted a engineer, who would write a proper engineered repair and a permit would then be pulled and the repair would be inspected per the engineers report and then signed offThis was not needed since it was all none structural related ItemsWe thank the [redacted] 's for allowing us to repair their home and wish them well

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:There was a change order, however it was before any work started on the project That also doesn't explain workers not showing up on scheduled days, and work not being completed properly or at allThen you tried to bill me for it all, after I paid you for the work that was completed I also spoke to a few people about receiving basic documents for my HOA and I was never able to get them, I asked multiple times Simple docs like your insurance certificate, etc Sincerely, [redacted]

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: There are more than three items now remaining due to additional damage done in my library by workmen removing molding from custom cabinetry that was grain matched, Molding from two windows was not destroyed by storm but removed and not replacedAn
Sheetrock wrinkling due to weight of trees on roof in the upstairs bathroom were not repaired, simply painted over and no repair was doneThere is paint spattered on the blinds and window molding
Further, the carpet was scheduled to be replaced September There was no notification that the installation was not going to happen because the carpet had not arrivedI gave complete information to Patrick A*** for where to order the carpet, color, brand, and quality There has been NO communication as to when I might expect work of ANY Kind to be completed
I have made contact and obtained an estimate to replace gutter and sent the estimate to Sterling Group who contacted Leaf Guard requesting a change to the estimate further delaying the project
On September 29, I sent a message to Steve Hartman requesting a meeting in person to discuss the project problems, he has not had the courtesy to respond to my request
I propose that Sterling Group waive any further charges for past performance of any nature and I will manage all contact repairs myself.
Hold back funds held by insurance company will not be available to me if ALL work is not completed by December 8, I have letter stating same from USAA, dated March 25,

I Steven H*** as the owner of Sterling Group DKI personally looked into ** ***'s concerns about monies he felt he was owed and quality of our workmanship.I found that Lora did credit ** *** $ for moving of contentsThis amount was more that the amount that we were paid by
the insurance company to complete the exact task As far as the the $ this was a balance owed and not a credit owed to himOn workmanship** *** felt the workmanship was not up to his standards and we returned as many times as necessary to correct what he felt was poor workmanshipAs a company we never wave deductibles but do provide credit to homeowners if they do preform any of the workAlso we stand behind our work and even if the work is to industry standards were will do our very best to take care of our customers

The filing with the Superior Court has not been filed. As of today, the Attorney hired by Steve H*** to start the collection action against me quit. The suspected reason for the termination of the collection action is due to there being overwhelming evidence of the problems, breach of contract and the billing issued by Sterling Group DKI. There is another case against Sterling Group DKI being handled by the same attorney for similar reasons that is filed with the Superior Court, but I do not know the name of the client. That makes to legal actions that are confirmed against Sterling Group DKI in 2016. In Sterling Group had a judgement against their bond for $28,000. I have found statements from victims of Steve H*** going back to 2007. My attorney made an offer as contained in the letter attached, which Steve H*** rejected. Instead, he referred me to his collection attorney, who looked at the letter from my attorney and the evidence, then quit the collection action Today, I gave the video's of how Sterling left my home, the poor construction, work done without a permit and over a ton of trash left by Sterling

I understand that you say your Insurance adjuster's opinion is that the fee for emergency services should have only been $200.00. However, as I said before our invoice for emergency service is well with in industry standards.

Our attorney is handling this claim. We have responded with documentation. Sterling Group DKI has hired our attorney to represent us and settle claim.

It lacks key facts.  1. The billing sent by Steve H[redacted] has glaring errors:   This is part of the text of the letter I sent with the check (see letter attached).
Enclosed is a cashier’s check for $19,128.25.  This is less than the bill submitted to me since there were a number of corrections required to make the bill match the original quote Sterling provided Hartford Insurance.  Items adjusted include; type of work performed, items not delivered, items to be returned, items not installed, work not performed, work performed without a permit from the City of Olympia, incorrect measurements, or work that had to be redone due to poor quality.  There is a detailed list of the “Reason for Adjustment” enclosed with this letter and payment.
Sterling is currently being cited by L&I for installing electrical panel at my house without a permit.  Sterling is listed with the Attorney General as a business that is in violation with the Consumer Protection Act. 
He put a lien on the house for the full amount ($28K+), and kept the check.
He has multiple legal action being taken against him from private individuals for very similar reasons.
