Sterling Group DKI Reviews (34)

We we contacted on June 7 to help [redacted] with water damage to her bathroom. We met with her and did water mitigation services to dry out affected area. After we completed the drying we were ask if we could perform the repairs. We informed  Ms. [redacted] that currently we were...

backed up on work and that we would not be able to help her with here repairs right away due to the work load back up. We do not have a contract to do repairs and told Ms. [redacted] that if she needed repairs completed right away that she would need to seek a different contractor.  Sadly she did not find this except able and has file this complaint. Lack of skilled construction labor has made it difficult for contractors to jump right on any project and the same was true here. We are sorry that Ms. [redacted] feels we are not taking care of her, but  with no contract and us needing  to take care of our current customers. We are unable to help her.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: Weather or not the invoice is within the "industry standards" does not make it right to charge those kind of figures for doing so little and in such a short amount of time.  I would respectfully request that  the invoice amount be reduced by half. Sincerely,[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:It is unfortunately obvious that Steve H[redacted] has absolutely no idea what his employees do and say in regards to their Business. I have witnesses that can corroborate that I was told specifically I would receive $460.00 in my pocket, after the entire $1,000.00 deductible  was also completely eradicated, due to the WORK that I actually performed. I even asked the question to ensure I was not misunderstanding the circumstance, yet I am accused of fabricating some abrogation of their "policy"? Perhaps there should be better understanding of what their employees say and do, when reprisenting their company. And I am quite certain that my demanding that a ventilation shaft be available for my bathroom, through the new roof is not exclusive to my standards. The work which was done and redone and then redone a third time, is still not done well! And still No One once has ever addressed the DESTRUCTION OF My PERSONAL PROPERTY, as any concern?!? Nor the increased work I was then responsible for, in regards to cleaning up damage that was done by their workers. No way, will I accept such offensive and unprofessional behaviour from anyone taking my money and inconveniencing me for months, with no concern for my home or property!
Sincerely,[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: The Kitsap County Department of Community Development requires a permit for the scope of work performed.  The remidiation/mitigation company and Sterling all worked in conjunction with each other and were recommended by our insurer, so the impression about some random company doing work in the response is an outright lie.  In addition WA L & I has been contacted and are aware this company is working jobs without obtaining the necessary permits and they suggest I contact their insurer and/or file suit.  I would just prefer they obtain the permit that legally they were required to do and were paid to do. The response from L & I is below:Good afternoon [redacted], I received your referral regarding The Sterling Group Inc who is a registered general contractor with UBI [redacted].The contractor carries a $12,000 bond with Lexon Insurance Company and the account is [redacted].Since you hired a registered contractor you have the right to file a Summons and Complaint against the contractor and you would do this in Superior Court in the jurisdiction where the work took place. The permitting is through the local jurisdiction so you may want to check with them but I believe you can purchase permits to have the work inspected but that is a question for them.I am going to send you information on how to file the Summons and Complaint and where you can order the form if the court doesn’t have one;  Thank you, Mary-Jo B[redacted]Construction Compliance Detection Tracking Unit/SupervisorPO Box 44450Tumwater, WA98504-4500[redacted]@lni.wa.govPhone 360 902-6210Fax 360 902-5812

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:Sincerely,[redacted] I have spoken with my insurance provider at length in regards to this situation.  Not only did my insurance company not dispatch Sterling they do not agree with the charges.  My insurance adjuster indicates the bill from Sterling for their services should not have exceeded $ 200.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
After further review, my records indicate there was $1,298.00 charged for the manipulation of my home contents. The Sterling Group says they only charged $540.00. I believe that is quantified as FRAUD. I am now also aware that the mold in my crawlspace was Never handled as it was agreed to have been. I believe this also constitutes as FRAUD. Mr. h[redacted] states that he will not exchange unpleasantness against me, as if I have somehow done something wrong by being concerned for the sanctity of my own home. It is clear that the Sterling Group DKI,nare not only unconcerned with the satisfaction of their customers, but actually they are CRIMINALS. Lying and incompetency are seemingly the corporate standard. I challenge Mr. h[redacted] to come to my home personally, and inspect the repairs done, and then tell me things were done professionally.
It makes me so very sad theses criminals are still in business, and will continue to abrogate the law for their own profit.Sincerely,[redacted]

Sterling Group DKI, is an insurance disaster restoration company. We use the insurance companies software for estimating and billing purposes. All estimates are approved by insurance carrier prier to invoicing. Emergency service calls involve minimum charges for removing employees from existing...

projects to perform the emergency service. All invoices are reviewed and approved by the Insurance Carriers guidelines.

We are sorry you have had a poor experience. I understand that there was a change order request for upgrading and or changing designs. Coordinating and all parties needing to agree on changes and cost can prolong a project. We at Sterling Group DKI agree that this appears to have been a longer than...

average timeline for this agreement. We will use this experience as a learning tool to find a quicker way to expedite all parties to agree on such change orders.

Again we are sorry [redacted]  continues to be unhappy. We have treated him more fair. We continue to stand by our previous comments and refuse to lower our level of conversation to the point of calling names. We have been working with his insurance company on his behalf dispute his more than harsh comments about us on us to see is any monies are owed by them to him and believe they may.  This will be a matter that his insurance company will resolve.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:  The Company should have informed us from the very beginning that if it did the preliminary work, it could not complete the repairs in a timely manner. We would then have sought another contractor  to do all of the work . On the contrary, Ryan informed us on August 10th that the project coordinator would be in touch with us and come to our house the following week.  Sterling only informed us that they were running behind after I called and complained.    That there was no contract in place is not an excuse. We would have signed one immediately if it had been presented to us.  Money was not an issue as our insurance company is covering the work done.  Sterling is not as naive as it claims.  It has to realize that when a client hires them, they are hiring them for the complete job, not just a portion of it. And it is not true that we only would have had to "wait a bit" to complete this job.  We have already been waiting for someone from Sterling to complete the job for a month and a half already, and to date, no one has contacted us.  This is unacceptable as the bathroom cannot be used and an elderly and disabled woman is paying the price for Sterling's lack of responsibility and honesty.  Fortunately, our insurance company has now removed Sterling from its "preferred provider" list and they have procured another contractor for us.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Thank you for your response. I have ask the operations manager  Fran Q[redacted] to contact MRS [redacted] and see what we can do to resolve her concerns. We are sorry for the poor communication and are working to resolve it.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:There was a change order, however it was before any work started on the project.  That also doesn't explain workers not showing up on scheduled days, and work not being completed properly or at all. Then you tried to bill me for it all, after I paid you for the work that was completed.  I also spoke to a few people about receiving basic documents for my HOA and I was never able to get them, I asked multiple times.  Simple docs like your insurance certificate, etc
Sincerely,[redacted]

Here is our response to MRS [redacted] concerns.

Let me start by saying that MRS [redacted] is a very nice person and has tried to be very patient.. We received a call on 12/18/2016. At that time if I remember correctly a couple of contractor were scheduled to come to her home to...

write estimates. No one showed up. Some how she received our mane and I went on to her home to see that a tree had struck her home.At the time were were very busy and normally would not have taken this project. But since other contractors had not done anything I chose to help out the very nice homeowner. I wrote an estimate and sent it to here insurance company. The insurance company like us was very busy and it took a long time to get them to agree with our estimate.. I finally received an agreement with the insurance company at the end of March. MRS [redacted] then signed a contract on 3/31/2016.  Once we had the contract we had to have a engineer do a truss repair design. This took several weeks. The weather at that time was raining as it is in Washington and we had to wait for a window to open up here roof and repair trusses. We The workers we had do the repair did complete repairs improperly and we had to send out a different crew to correct the mistakes. I do agree that this has take f to long to complete. We are down to three items to complete her home. Carpet replacement, Deck repair and install gutter guard. We have been having difficulty with he deck material as that are no longer available and also here gutter is a specialty and we have been having a hard time getting them out there. Everything that MRS [redacted] mention that needed fixed we did fix. Again I am sorry that this has taken so long and as a owner am involved in pushing to complete this project.

I am sorry for the feeling of miss communication. We did have turn over in the accounting department which must have lead  to this being overlooked. I personally went to the office and as of today the check will be sent out.
