Sunset Electronics Reviews (26)

Review: Item was advertised as a "bundle", with "Manufacturer Accessories". They are not "Manufacturer Accessories".Desired Settlement: I would like the actual "Manufacturer Accessories" that I thought I was paying for.

Review: Sunset Electronics has deceived me by selling me a grey market camcorder with invalid warranty. Their advertisement clearly states that the camera comes with warranty. I ordered a camcorder thinking that it was a legit sale. Then, on 05/**/13 at 9:43am pacific time, I was contacted by Sunset Electronics sales representative, [redacted] ext. [redacted]. He informed me that they were going to send me Panasonic AGHMC45 instead of AGHMC40 which is the model I originally ordered (and the one advertised). He assured me that it is the exact same camera, just with a different model number. I specifically asked him if the warranty is the same and he said 'yes.' When I received the camera I could not register the warranty at all. I contacted panasonic and they informed me that they could not honor the warranty because AGHMC45 was meant for the Japanese market. Here is the email: "Hello, I am emailing you based on your call to Panasonic 5/** in regards to your AG-HMC45P. The AG-HMC45 camera is not the model sold by Panasonic System Communications Company of the North America (PSCNA) and as such does not have standard manufacturer warranty in USA. Any in warranty service arrangements for this model should be made through the company that sold this unit." Sunset Electronics is selling products with invalid warranty and I feel very much cheated. They did not issue me a full refund which I am entitled to because they outright deceived me. Their advertisement clearly states "3 year warranty"; so this is an egregious form of false advertisement. I paid $1727.00 but my refund is for only $1448.00. Now, I have received an email from Sunset Electronics stating that they regret issuing the refund at all since I had opened the package. This is an irrelevant point because the issue in the first place is that they sent me an item that does not match the product description. Here is the email: "This is what our returns manger wrote...I dont know why we refunded this before we even checked the camcorder first. Got back a used hmc 45. Took 30 min to restore to a used like new condition and I wouldnt be surprised if it comes back again. [redacted]. If you want to discus the balance please call [redacted] returns manager at [redacted]"; Of course I had opened the box, how else would I have known that the warranty was invalid? But that is irrelevant because the problem is that Sunset Electronics deceived me and sent me an item that does not match the advertised description. This is the worse experience I have ever had with a vendor. Furthermore, I have photographs of the camera before returning it to prove that it was in new condition and shows the serial number and model number to prove that it is a japanese model with invalid warranty. Furthermore, Sunset refused to address the issue via email and said that they would only talk to me on the phone. I would not accept a phone conversation because the last time I spoke to them on the phone, they outright deceived me and there's is no written record of it. I do not trust this company. I know I am not the only consumer who Sunset has cheated. A class action lawsuit may be filed against Sunset Electronics.Desired Settlement: I would like Revdex.com to keep this complaint on record and to make it public so that other consumers can beware of the deceptive and underhanded practices of Sunset Electronics. I would also like an apology and an explanation from Sunset. Sunset needs to address the fact that they commit false advertisement, and issue full refunds when they break the law or deceive customers.

Response:

Customer has ordered a Panasonic Professional AG-HMC40 AVCHD Camcorder with 10.6 MP Still and 12x Optical Zoom and paid $1,727.00. I had contacted this customer to let them know we had oversold on the AG-HMC40 and they can choose to wait to the AG-HMC40 which might be a few day although I couldn't provide an exact date the AG-HMC40 would be in though, or they can elect to take the AG-HMC45 model we did have in stock. I explained the product itself is exactly the same as the AG-HMC40 however it was meant for sale in a different region of the world and that is why it ends with the 5 instead of the 0. The warranty on the product would still be a 3 year warranty as provided by the manufacturer however it would be covered by us. If the customer wants the manufacturer to cover warranty claims, Panasonic required consumers to purchase products from one of their authorized dealers who sell at MSRP. Since we are not an authorized dealer no matter the p roduct received 40 or 45, we would still be the one to cover the warranty terms. The product was returned opened and in used condition, never the less we had refunded the customer in full $1,727.00 as they can see under their [redacted] account. There is no false advertisement that had taken place here, we reached out to the customer to offer options, one of which were taken in place of the item purchased. Customer was clearly informed of all information prior to shipment. Please consider this case closed as there are no open issues to resolve.

Response:

We are international sellers and ship all over the world.. This customer purchased the HMC 40, the customer was fully informed of the differences between the HMC 40 AND HMC 45 and they were given the option to wait for the HMC-40 to come back into stock once we receive deliveryfrom our distributor or or accept the HMC-45 in place and it can be shipped out immediately. We had informed the customer that the hmc 45 model is the same exact camera with the same manual and functions however the only difference was the region it was intended on being marketed to by the manufacturer. We did inform the customer that the warranty terms are all valid, however the warranty would need to be submitted through us the seller. This customer did not want to wait so they accepted the HMC45 model in place of what they had purchased. We are not selling the HMC-45 to our USA buyers. The customer must not have understood what we were trying to tell them and they contacted Panasonic once they received the product. Since they want Panasonic to warranty the product instead of us they decided to return the product. The customer was than fully refunded and this case is closed.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

Sunset electronics is retroactively claiming to have fully informed me. The fact that they did not fully inform me is the reason [redacted] upheld my claim against them. Remember, I was not refunded the full amount until [redacted], not Sunset, upheld my claim and forced Sunset to relinquish my full refund. Again, the issue is that Sunset deceived me when they told me that the warranty was the same. Also, they did not offer an in house warranty, instead, Sunset asked me to return the item and never offered any warranty what so ever. I have all the emails and [redacted] messages to prove this. They, again, are out-right lying.

Review: I ordered a Pentax Digital Camera from Sunset Electronics. I left the next day after it was delivered to Florida to photograph a wedding and then an extended vacation. I got to the wedding reception and attempted to take a photo. It would not flash....not one time has this camera flashed. I called Pentax to ask if I missed something in a step since it was a different camera that I was accustomed to. They led me through every scenario and said it was bad. I attempted to take some photos at the wedding on the beach....the window started chattering and broke. I called Sunset Electronics within a week of getting the camera. I spoke to a guy named [redacted]. He told me not to worry, no problem. When I got back to KY call him and he would issue a handtag to pick it up...no charge, and exchange it. When I got back, I called. [redacted] no longer worked there and it has been over 30 days at that time, which I explained would be the case to [redacted]. He told me do not worry, have a good time. We will take care of it. When I called after getting home, the person I got said it had been over 30 days, sorry. Very rude, very hateful and willing to DO NOTHING. I now have, what is either the worse camera anyone ever bought new, or a used one that was sold as new.Desired Settlement: Either an exchange for a new camera or a refund for the amount I paid.

Review: this is also a bait and switch advertising problem. I ordered or at least thought I ordered a canon 7d camera kit and lens kit. the ad says list price is $1950.00 and i'm getting a savings of 94% only costing me $149.00. a full description of the camera and pictures of all the items. when I get the package in the mail I open it and there is only a 18-55 mm lens and some filters and a cleaning kit. its a 200 dollar lens and with the accessories maybe a 280 dollar value. when I called to ask where the rest of my order is the person on the phone argued with me until I had them go to the ad online. they kept talking in circles and had me speak to the [redacted]. the [redacted] talked in more circles just speaking nonsense saying that's the list price, I said 1950.00 is the list price of what the lens? and he just disregards my statement. I said what am I saving 94% on if its just the lens? if its just the lens then it should only be 24 dollars for the lens kit. its a scam I believe and they are 3 other companies doing the same thing with the same add and they are all co-sellers of [redacted] which I am also filling a complaint about. they claim its a mistake and the picture of the camera is just so you can see what it fits on but the camera is in the description and in the Mfg Part#: 7DK4 and in the head line and other random lens (wide angle and telephoto) pictured. and if it was a mistake why is there 3 other companies doing it also. and the one company is saying you get an 82% savings charging you only 355.00 instead of 1950.00 which is 60 dollars more than the kit you actually get is worth. I have screen shots and video proving everything I am saying.Desired Settlement: I want what I ordered. I want the Canon 7d kit, the wide angle lens, the telephoto lens, that are described and pictured and are the actual list price that they say you are getting 94% off. Afterward I want them all to change their add and be put on a list and the public to know about it and etc.

Response:

The title of the listing is correct and the main picture of the listing is correct, once the listing is opened the features section specifically lists the items that are included with this purchase. The custoemr can return the order for a full refund if they prefer. The customer paid just under $145 and is looking for an additional $1500 worth of products without being charged. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to fix the listing on rakutens end, there is an error in this listing, this was not created by us, we spoke with the customer and informed him to contact rakuten to fix the error on the listing.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

The company offers a product that when you order you do not receive. they blame [redacted] and everyone but accepting responsibility. The describe a camera in the description give a list price of the camera kit, have a mfg # of the camera matching the title description. if not honored then that is illegal, and a scam and many other in fractures of false advertising law. They need to be held responsible. mis leading and scamming people is illegal. says right on the picture I save 92%. if its only the lens then its false advertising on the lens and should be 92% off the lens kit which is around 20 dollars.

Review: I ordered a Blackmagic Ursa video camera from Sunset Electronics on March **, through [redacted] online ordering service. The price was nearly $600 dollars off the regular price of the camera which you can find from any video or camera business that carries this camera. The delivery was set for between March **, 2015 and March **, 2015. On March ** on contacted Sunset Electronics because the camera was late and I planned a shoot for my business on March ** giving ample time for delivery to be completed.

I spoke with [redacted] from Sunset Electronics and he told me through phone conversations and emails, that he and Sunset Electronics would overnight express shipment through [redacted], a new blackmagic Ursa to resolve the issue of not shipping the camera until ten days after the initial order was placed. The only problem with the overnighted shipment was that I would have to drive 2 hours to the nearest [redacted] facility to pick the camera up in person because I live in a rural area which I was overly eager and willing to do. After the 2 hour drive, one way, on a Saturday morning to the [redacted] facility then I discovered that the camera was never shipped.

On Monday March**, I contacted Sunset Electronics and spoke with [redacted] again. I was told that the original camera that was shipped and over 10 days late for delivery would have to be returned to Sunset Electronics. Although, I discovered that the shipment was stopped en route and returned to Sunset Electronics. Understandable, but when I contacted Sunset Electronics on March **, I was told that the overnight shipment to resolve my problem with the inexcusable delivery time of my original order, was never sent and my returned delivery could not be stopped and reshipped to my address as well. I was then told that the resolution for me to receive the camera was to begin a new order at a higher price with the original investment of $5,300 not returned to my credit card. This is not possible because I am a small business owner and $5,300 is a huge investment.

Bottom line is, the small guy loses and is completely taken advantage of. The shoots I promised to deliver with this camera have left me looking foolish and unethical.

THIS IS AN UNRESOLVED ISSUE

bUSINESS REPLIED THAT THIS WAS AN UNFORTUNATE OCCURRENCE AND THEY NEEDED OUR AGREEMENT IN WRITING SO [redacted] COULD SEE WHAT WAS AGREED UPON.

THE LINK THEY SENT ME FOR THIS RESPONSE TO THIS AGREEMENT WAS A DEAD LINK AND WAS ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE TELLING ME THE MESSAGE WAS UNRECIEVABLE. I THEN CONTACTED [redacted] AND HE SAID HE WOULD ACCEPT THIS AGREEMENT THROUIGH A TEXT MESSAGE WHICH WAS SENT IMMEDIATELY. IMMEDIATELY AFTER SENDING THIS TEXT I ATTEMTED TO CALL SO I COULD VERIFY THIS TEXT WAS RECEIVED AND THERE WAS NO ANSWER. I ATTEMPTED TO CALL FOR THE NEXT 10 MINUTES AND EVENTUALLY BEGAN TO GET A RECORDRD RESPONSE THAT THEY WERE CLOSED AND TRY AGAIN DURING BUSINESS HOURS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WAS FRIDAY AND THEY ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL MONDAY.

I HAVE THE EMAIL THAT WAS SENT TO ME WITH THE DEAD LINK AND THE TEXT MESSAGE I WAS TOLD WOULD DO BECAUSE THE EMAIL MESSAGE WOULD NOT GO THROUGH.

\I ALSO HAVE THE EMPLOYEES AT [redacted] WHO HELPED ME ON SATURDAY WHEN MY CAMERA WAS TO ARRIVE AS WELL AS THE EMPLOYEE WHO CALLED ME MONDAY MORNING WHO SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW FOR THE PACKAGE WHICH WAS NEVER SENT TO BEGIN WITH.Desired Settlement: New camera of same model with the same items in the box with the camera at the price I purchased on March **, 2015, overnight delivery no later than April *, 2015 to my address that the camera was originally promised so I can conduct my business and deliver the promise of work I said I would to my clients.by April *, 2015

Response:

We were informed by you over the phone that you needed the product asap, Monday or earlier and if the package arrived after then there was no need for it anymore because you had the shoot on Monday. The [redacted] website allows for customer to email sellers directly, so if a link didn't work you were still able to email us through you [redacted] account. We would not have been able to ship the parcel to a non [redacted] approved address and we were taking a risk by agreeing to send the package to said address even if we got the email through amazons system. Unfortunately a text sent to an employees personal cell phone would not have been acceptable to us or [redacted] should any problems have arisen. How would you like to proceed ? What is the resolution you would like?

Response:

This is an unfortunate situation. The package was already shipped when we were informed on friday march [redacted] by the custoemr that the estimated delivery date from [redacted] which was tuesday March [redacted] was to last and it was needed by saturday march [redacted]. We were attempting to recall the package and ship out a second one and have it held at the [redacted] facility for pick up, but we needed this agreement in writing through [redacted]s messaging system. We never received this confirmation in writing through [redacted]s system so we were unable to ship it out. We are sorry for this unfortunate series of event and you will be refunded.
