Might have the healthiest garage around -- living spaces, not so much.
Our radon mitigation system was installed in the summer of 2019 - in a wall in a basement garage at a lower grade than the finished basement living spaces. On a hunch, after looking at the installation site, I had another radon test performed. As suspected, the reading of 19.5 pCi/L ± 1.2 confirmed my suspicions that the installation was faulty and the living spaces were not remediated. Wasted money and two years of unhealthy air.

To Whom it will Concern,Frankly this complaint was resolved timely several months agoOur President, [redacted] finally was abel to speak to Mr [redacted] a we provided him with a check for $even thought SWAT did not install this system(We have owned our company since 6-2013, the only correlation being that we now use the 1-800-NO-Radon phone number.)According to our internal notes and record keeping, when the original complaint was filed, we made phone calls and sent emails to Mr [redacted] attempting to resolve the matter all in good faithOnce Mr [redacted] spoke to Mr [redacted] he graciously accepted the $from our company and agreed to rescind the complaintPlease call me directly with any further questions [redacted]

My apologies, this emailed complaint went into my spam folder and was not received timely by me. Soil Water and Air Technologies, (SWAT Environmental) is not the same company that installed this system. We have been in business since 2013, and are not a successor entity to Air Control as
referenced.Nonetheless we will contact this person in effort to assist them with repairing their radon mitigation system provided the complaint is removed.*** ***

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.a.) ###-###-#### is the number listed on our sticker for the radon systemSWAT is answering the phones for this line.b.) The corporate record for Air Quality Control Agency, Inc (the company that installed our system) has the same address as SWAT's hq in MI listed.https://www.wdfi.org/apps/CorpSearch/Details.aspx?entityID=A065236&hash=1... The domain name "radonmadison.com" which is supposedly SWAT according to the website, has registration data saying Air Quality Control Systems. Domain Name: RADONMADISON.COMRegistrant Name: *** ***Registrant Organization: Air Quality ControlAs far as I'm concerned, it's the same companyEven if you bought out another company, not honoring that company's warranty is basically fraud (especially if it wasn't an asset purchase agreement, which it doesn't appear to be since the corporate record lists SWAT's main HQ address)Lastly, because we're up against a real estate transaction, and it took you over weeks to respond to this message, we picked another, local company, that has clear eveidence of honoring their warranty to keep the levels below 3.9, not just some shell company game like SWATAdditionally, this is a health issue and we have children living in our house, who have apparently been exposed to levels of radon exceeding the EPA limits because of your incorrectly installed/spec'd system and lack of warranty followup. We'd like a refund of some portion of the original cost of this system at this point, unless someone can come fix (per the terms of the original warranty) before today (3/17) or Friday (3/18).

I understand your frustration and have attached photo's from the installationIf your refrigerator was left unplugged you would have noticed if checked upon just the same as the sump pumpAgain once we leave the property there is no way for us to confirm or be held liable with sump pump issues and
we leave that up to the customers to make sure everything is functioning properlyThanks

+1

At the time of this picture the technicians were completed with this part of the install and would not return to this areaThe client is welcome to reject whatever they would like but our policy is to take pictures of completed work when it is completed so we have evidence to hold our technicians accountableAs stated before the picture from the technician shows our completed work with everything plugged inThanks

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:SWAT can state that the picture covers their liability as often as they like, it still doesn't change the fact that the only person in that access panel was your technician and that our basement did in fact flood after he failed to complete the job properlyYou are basically saying that no matter when the picture is taken, you are coveredThat in fact is not true.Just a short list of the things your picture can't change:There is a minute gap in the completion of the job in comparison to the picture(If you want to cover yourself from liability, the picture needs to be at the ACTUAL completion of the job, not whenever you want.) What your Technician did in those minutes IN OUR BASEMENT is not known, but keep in mind, I have multiple witnesses at the house that can place him still in the basement during those minutesWhat exactly was he doing in there if the picture was supposed to solidify that the job was complete? The LAST person to enter the space before the plumber arrived to solve the problem was YOUR technicianHe was even so kind as to place the furniture back over the access panel before he left, which makes it even more evident that it was in fact YOUR technician that failed to re-plug in the pump. Your Operations Manager knew that this was an issue and failed to share that information to help a customer avoid the incident all togetherJust to cover SWAT from liability, he conveniently decided to not share this information before the flooding occurredThat sir, is down right wrong and proves in itself that you need training for your OPs manager, or just a new Manager that really has your best interests in mindIf your current one had your best interests in mind, he would have worked to avoid the flooding all together and offered to send someone out to double-check everythingYour operations manager, AFTER THE FACT, proceeded to blatantly "out" (admit fault) your company by telling me directly that yes, this has occurred in the past, and so now you take photosSO rather than help a customer before the issue, and just admit that sometimes it happens and apologize, he chose to remain silent and allow it to happenOH, and number that yes, in fact, my basement did flood due to an error on your technicians partBecause who else can you point to? Absolutely no one else would ever go into that access panel for any reason what-so-everHow can you account for that?! Oh right, your Operations Manager stated we probably did itgreat customer service skill there; point back at YOUR client. While I understand that you want to cover your business, and try not to admit fault, we are all humanMistakes happenIt's how you recover from those mistakes that makes you a good or bad business, and you have chosen poorly in this regard considering the evidence presentedAs stated before, I can only hope that you take from this and learn from it, along with modifying your policy on pictures to be taken WITH THE CUSTOMER at the time of an official walk-through at the ACTUAL completion of the job.Maybe I should charge for these pointers that i'm providing to help YOU and YOUR BUSINESS outhows $sound?
Sincerely,

First I want to start by saying we completely emphasize with your situation and it is unfortu***We as a business have installed over 10,systems in the last three years and require our technicians to provide proof of a correct installation and post mitigation pictures to ensure that our level
of quality is met or exceededIn the past and continuing into the future we have and will always accept responsibility on any mistakes that we makeUnfortu***ly in your situation this is not the caseAs your plumber stated the system was unplugged and that caused the issue, so after discussing with both technicians that were at your home and after looking at the post installation picture it clearly shows everything is plugged in exactly as it was when we arrivedI have provided the picture for your referenceAlso he made comments about "slamming the expletive out of our business" on social mediaWe are a reputable and professional business and believe you have handled this situation in an unprofessional and inappropriate mannerWe will never succumb to threats or accept responsibility for an issue that is not ours because you believe it to be the right thing to doIf you have any further questions I am happy to discussThey are saying that the sump pump was left unplugged, the sump pump has no affect on drainage when it comes to shower and kitchen drains backing upThanks.***

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: the attached pictures are of the outside and not inside where the plug and the rest of the installation was done. They advertise that they take a finished photo of both inside and out. If as I suggested a refrigerator was left unplugged I would immediately notice that there was no light on inside and the food would be warm. Again the sump pump was plugged in and working prior to the installation . They unplugged it and due to negligence failed to plug it back in. Also when the radon test came back high was also an indication nothing was working and I never heard from SWAT regarding the high reading as they received the same results. I had to call them to request another test kit and reported the flooding. The fact they offered to cover half the costs of renting fans and also help me move furniture says ALOT in regards to the human error on their tech's part. Very sad that the  integrity of this manager and company is so low.

reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  The company was quick to respond to my complaint and did more than I expected to rectify the problem.  I did not expect them to do the work for free, just a more reasonable cost since the fan had originally been installed less than two years before and it had a 5 year warranty on it.  The person who contacted me was most pleasant and claimed it was not company policy to require a credit card account number before they would schedule a repair call.  I'm not sure if this is true or not.  In any case, the problem was resolved quickly and I appreciate it very much.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is OK to me. NOTE::The comment that this was resolved several months ago and "timely" was very untrue. These people are shady if they are communicating lies. We received a check only a week or so ago. There was no phone calls received by us until the owner called us, and offered to cover 1/2 of our costs. We appreciated that the owner called us and discussed this frankly with us, but the lies in the response below are just as frustrating and reflective of business practices.

SWAT Radon Mitigation installed a system in June of 2017 in my basement in Freedom NH. They used an existing upside down 5 gallon bucket in the floor as their source of negative suction under the slab. The expansion joints throughout the basement floor were never sealed and the system included the higher output fan. The level before mitigation was 23 and after was 6.6 for a 6 day test and 12.6 for a 60 day test. The hole in the floor went through a plastic bucket that emptied into a dirt pit. After calling SWAT to tell them of the levels they informed me the system probably will need an additional pipe at an additional cost. I would never recommend this company to anyone Bob D.

Do NOT use this company.

They claim a requirement to drill through the interior floor. I declined.

They installed the system improperly on the exterior of the house.

I had an extremely difficult time contacting them to come examine their work and provide an estimate for improvements; approximately a month from my first call to the time SWAT sent someone to the house; and it took several calls on my part to make that happen.

It has been approximately another month since they came to inspect their system, and I have not received an estimate to improve the system they installed.

I have gone with another radon mitigation company. When they came out to improve the system, they found that SWAT just dug the pipe into the ground without creating a cavity for suction; lazy, incompetent and / or dishonest.
