I decline the response from Tanner Transmissions: When I originally agreed to the 4.6 hours labor to figure out the cause and receive a quote from Tanner for the repair at no time did they disclose that my truck would not be returned to me in the condition that I brought it to them in. They did not disclose that it would be an additional 3 hours labor on top of the 4.6 hours to have them reassemble my truck just to receive a quote to repair my vehicle. that would be a total of 7.6 hour labor ($760.00) I was baited and switched so to speak and felt that they should have gave full disclosure when I originally agreed to the 4.6 hours. I would have not agreed to that! I also received verbal confirmation, from Blaine T[redacted], when I agreed to the 4.6 hours labor that my vehicle would be put back together. His comment was, after I asked if it included reassembly was " Of coarse it includes reassembly, we would not leave a customer vehicle in pieces". As for the transport of my vehicle: Why, after telling a customer that the rear end is in need or repair, would you drive my vehicle to another location on the opposite end of town and risk further damaging my vehicle. It should have been towed to prevent further damage while in Tanner Transmissions care! I feel like they intentionally did not disclose my vehicle would not be reassembled in order to force into paying them for the complete repair. As a consumer I have the right to receive quotes from multiple repair shops and choose the one that best fits my budget. All I mentioned was I could not afford there price and I was not sure if I was going to keep the truck much longer anyways. Also this all started with a FREE DIAGNOSTICS. I did not authorize them to remove my differential cover plate in the first place! Again I was Baited and Switched and forced into paying them. I payed the $460.00 just so I could get my vehicle out of there care and then had to pay a tow truck $150.00 for the tow. I would be satisfied with paying the 3 hours labor that Jim Tanner said he had into at that point, less the tow truck expense, for a total of $150.00. that would be a refund of $310.00 plus tax.

The customer received a remanufactured engine because I did not know about what had happened until the engine was being installed. The customer was bettered by thousands of miles and dollars because of the tech's fear of being fired on his assumption that he must have made a mistake in the...

replacement of the oil pan seal.  Had I been informed, I would have picked up a used engine at the salvage yard for a fraction of the price paid by the tech and equivelent miles on it.  Upon examination of the old engine, nothing was found that the tech did wrong and with 156,012 miles the failure may not have been his fault. There will be no additional payments, warranty, firing of employees or any other consideration given.

Mr. P[redacted] is correct about the repairs gone wrong with his truck as poor workmanship and Certified's inability to attract or find qualified transmission technicians is what ultimately led them into bankruptcy.  What isn't correct is that Larry B[redacted] IS NOT the owner or corporate officer...

of Certified Transmissions.  He was employed as a manager just as Jim T[redacted] currently is.  Larry B[redacted] did not get any money from the sale of Certified Transmissions nor did the president of the corporation or any corporate officers. All Tanner Transmissions agreed to do was to; pay back taxes, back payroll and assume the lease on the building; that's all.  Nobody profited from the sale.  There is no money.  The owner is currently on unemployment living in a two bedroom apartment.  I feel sorry for Mr. P[redacted] and other customers of Certified Transmissions who got hurt but it just turned out that way.  Today's transmissions are simply to complicated for the average automotive technician and why most shops are now installing reman transmissions as opposed to rebuilding them.Sincerely,Larry B[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: It does not address the source of the original problem, the length of time I lost use of the vehicle or the threatening way I was treated by the staff or owner.
Sincerely,

Tanner offers a free transguard check.  This is a 15 point check to determine if a transmission problem is internal or external. To determine what the actual parts and labor required if the problem is internal, we need an authorization to remove, dismantle, and inspect the parts.  The...

customer knew about and authorized this service.  Tanner Transmissions performed the authorized inspection. Any price given is a guestimate without knowledge of the extent of damage to the transmission. We never advertised a free diagnostic. We won't refund money for work performed as described and which saved the customer that part of the labor at the shop he took it to.
