I would give it zero stars but system does not allow it. This service is a total scam. Take them out of business now. I took a text from JFK to Port Authority in NYC on March 3. 2018 and was charged $133. The usual fare for this route is 70-90 with tips. I was taking this ride many times. I was overcharged twice the usual amount. On top of that, driver added $9 fee and did not tell me. I singed the receipt for $122 but when I got the text with receipt it showed $133. Voucher number MBC428, you can investigate it.

Thank you.

LOST AND FOUND. I left a treasured pair of black woolen mittens in the back seat of the taxi we took tonight from Newark Airport to Manhattan. We rode in Cab #042. Voucher # TV1VVK. We paid by American Express (last five numbers 36039) at 6:15 PM.
We have been trying find a contact for your lost and found but your phone number refers us to a customer care web address that offers no help whatsoever.
I hope your driver turned in my mittens. They have black leather on the palm side and are otherwise knitted in black wool. Please contact me at [email protected]. Many thanks!

I took a ride from EWR to my apt in Gramercy. The fare charged was $100.50, the driver asked me to pay in cash after trying it with my card and told me that his machine was NOT working. I paid in cash (with CASH receipt of $100.50) and later found that my credit card was ALSO charged. Please tell me how I can prove the double charge and get a refund.

I don't know who you are. My credit card ending in 1002 has a pending charge of $1 three times on May 1. I have not used a taxi or used my card for a taxi. I am rejecting these charges unless someone can tell me what they are for and how they got charged to my card. The only time I gave card information was to register at Uber, and to ,make a reservation with Carmel Transportation for a sedan transport from JFK later this month.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!

DRIVER CHARGED ME EXTRA WITHOUT TELLING ME! HE THOUGHT I WAS DRUNK AND ADDED HIS OWN GRATUITY. THE COMPANY SAYS IN THEIR RULES THAT THIS ISN'T ALLOWED, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THEY DO NOT ABIDE BY THEIR OWN RULES. I WAS CHARGED $180 DOLLARS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND I WANT THE WHOLE THING REFUNDED. CURRENTLY FILING A REPORT WITH MY BANK AND ALSO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THEY PRY ON LATE NIGHT PICK UPS AND ARE TOTAL CON ARTISTS.

I CAUGHT HIM IN THE ACT AND HE TRIED TO TAKE OUT $20 FROM HIS WALLET TO APOLOGIZE! ABSOLUTELY THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE THING. HE REFUSED TO TELL ME THE TOTAL AMOUNT TOO. I ASKED FOR 10 MINUTES AND I ONLY FOUND OUT VIA MY STATEMENT!

THIS IS OUT OF CONTROL!

Review: I did not sign for a $101.50 taxi cab ride from Newark to Brooklyn (Williamsburg). I had to fill out a voucher (which the process is insanely confusing and complicated), and I believe the total I signed for was NOT 101.50, which is what is showing up on my statement. I'd like to see a copy of my original voucher and be refunded for anything that was not the original amount!!! Anything tacked on to what I signed was NOT EXPLAINED to me properly. This system needs to be completely revamped. I feel like I got scammed.Desired Settlement: I'd like to see a copy of my original receipt and voucher and be refunded for anything that was not the original amount!!

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted],

I am sorry that the system was was confusing and that you were not given the proper information. The amount that makes up your charge is the total of the base fare which would be the amount written on the yellow sheet handed by the dispatcher. Any extras for luggage would also appear on this sheet.

Next tolls need to be added in. Since drivers can take different routes, the tolls are unknown until the end. On our voucher we state to add in fare + tolls to account for that. On the next line is where any tip would be added.

If the above is added up you receive your total. As stated on the voucher and signage on the kiosks, there is a $5.50 processing fee since the drivers and airport use TaxiPass as a 3rd party credit card processor.

TaxiPass does not set the base fares (this is done so by the cities of Newark and Elizabeth), but knowing the approximate range of total charges, $101.50 probably is correct. However, we will request a copy of the voucher today to investigate what amount was filled out and turned into us by the driver. If there is anything that seems off on that voucher we will immediately refund you the disputed amount of $31.50. If we do not receive the voucher by Monday the [redacted] we will also refund this amount straight away.

We apologize if you felt taken advantage of - we definitely do not want that. We will be contacting you directly for more information on the charge so we can look it up and get all the details.

Hello,

I rode their cab from Newark airport to the Upper West Side. The way their system works is that they force you to use this awful machine at the airport if you need to use a credit card, overcharging a total of $150 to your card, and supposedly, they will ONLY charge you the actual amount after you sign a receipt at the end of the ride. When I rode from the airport, the ticket stated that the cost would be $65. However, once I got in the guy claimed that the tolls would be an additional $19.50. I'm pretty sure that was excessive and wholly inaccurate but I agreed to the ride. Then, I was even generous to tip him, which made my total come to $89.00. However, I see now that the jerk has charged me for $95.40! I have surfed the web and noticed that this is a common practice for them. PLEASE TAKE THEM OUT OF BUSINESS! This is a complete scam. Thank you.

Review: June ** I landed at the Newark Airport. Everyone had to use taxipass if they were paying with credit card. The TaxiPass booth pre-authorized my credit card for $150. They told me the amount that would be charged would be based on my fare receipt. I took a cab from the Newark Airport to Jersey City. The fare with tip was 55 dollars. This is what I signed the receipt for. The charge to my credit card was $100. I tried to file a complaint with TaxiPass. I gave them the receipt number. They kept requesting that I fill out an online ticket which I had done many times.Desired Settlement: I would like the 45 dollars back that was unjustly taken from my credit card.

[redacted],

We apologize that you were overcharged. Please understand that the drivers are not employed by TaxiPass as we only process the vouchers as they are when turned in.

We are instructing a refund of $45.00 to your card today which should settle in 1-3 business days.

TaxiPass

Review: I was overcharged by a taxi driver that uses the Taxi Pass charge machine. I had contacted Taxi Pass to complain about this issue and they replied that they had no way to track the driver or distance traveled to as if the charge was fair. I contacted my bank to dispute the charge, however, they were unable to do anything more than compare the charge on my account versus the receipt. My issue is that the Taxi Driver took advantage and overcharged me on the distance I went and in addition was turned around several times driving me home which also racked up the fare. I was treated poorly by the Taxi Pass company when I tried to file a complaint the only response I continued to receive was they could not assist in the matter, only my bank could help me. I am now unable to further pursue the issue of being overcharged because Taxi Pass refuses to do any investigating on this matter and will only communicate via email.Desired Settlement: Refund.

Response:

Dear [redacted],

I have re-reviewed the history of your complaint. It is true that we cannot control the metered rates and the actions of the drivers since we are only a service to provide card acceptance. Normally, we would advise speaking to the fleet, but in this case it appears this driver is an owner-operator and not part of a major fleet. The signature on the charge also does not resemble your name.

Generally, we do not arbitrate these issues and would rely on the bank's final say, but we do not want to leave you with an overall bad experience. I am instructing that the $30 refund be processed today. Please allow 1-3 business days for processing.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I tried to be nice by contacting Taxipass directly and received rude and completely unhelpful customer service. I took at ride in a (sketchy) taxi cab from SFO to the city and was charged $74.50 twice, for one ride. Not only was I charged twice, I only authorized a charge of $60.00 -- where did the extra $14.50 come from?Desired Settlement: I asked nicely for my money back and was told to contact my bank if I was "dissatisfied" with the charge. I DID call my bank and they told me to contact the merchant - Taxipass - for a refund. This company is a joke.

Business

Response:

Hi [redacted],

We are going to resolve the double charge. It is our policy to allow the banks to resolve disputes once a chargeback is filed, but after looking into this issue further we will take action now.

According to our records we only have one charge against your account. We made one attempt to charge the card which according to our processor failed and another that passed which should have resulted in one net charge. It is possible that the failure message is incorrect, though that is not something we have seen before.

The other possibility is that some drivers use alternatives to TaxiPass which have similar merchant names that have no affiliation to our company.

In either event, we want to make you whole. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and experience you had. Please allow 1-3 business days for the refund to show on your account. Should you have further questions please contact us at [redacted].

Regards,

TaxiPass

Review: I took a taxi ride night of 5.*.14 from Newark Airport. Cost app. $70. $155 is on hold for this purchase in my bank account. I am told that to have the additional $85 removed, I must reclaim a 'voucher' I was given as a receipt. I have no way to reclaim this 'voucher'. Also, I was not advised of the additional $ hold on my account at the time of purchase.Desired Settlement: I want my $85 credited back to me and I want this company's unethical billing practices on record.

Business

Response:

Hi [redacted],

The amount that you are seeing on your account is a pending amount and should be showing as “processing” or “pending”. We do pre-authorize all cards at $155.50 to ensure that enough funds are available for the ride. Once the driver turns in the finalized receipt with the ride amount, that is the amount (plus the $5.50 voucher fee) that will be charged to your account.

The preauthorized amount should have dropped once the final charge went through so I do not know why it did not disappear on its own. If you email us at [redacted] with the last 5 digits of the card used, we can investigate further and see what is needed to get rid of the remaining amount.
