Billing Refund
Somehow my husband and I got two subscriptions started, both e-edition. So I cancelled mine, however they already charged my credit card. It's been over six weeks, still nothing. I have called four times about this, each time "someone" tells me in 3-5 business days that it will be credited back to my account. Now they are telling me I need to wait for an email, in order to receive the refund. It's sad when corporate America takes over a local newspaper.

Terrible delivery service!
Dear Nicoli,

I am sorry for the loss of your husband and ensuing problems with The Statesman.

We, also, are 40+ years subscribers and presently have a 6-day delivery subscription as well as daily e-editions. Sadly and maddenly to my husband and myself, our delivery problems have degenerated over the past 4 months from great to dreadful. Our delivery has gone downhill to only Wednesdays and Sundays with missed daily papers bundled together with the Wednesday and Sunday editions. That is not what we pay for, so we have canceled our recurring billing.

I have threatened to take our problems as well to the Idaho AG's office for The Statesman's fraudulent advertising as well. Since around August 2021, while the Statesman has been advertising "fast home delivery." Enough people have been dissatisfied with their service as you have been. To me, that type of advertising is fraudulent representation to prospective customers. The AG's office should go to court to issue an injunction to the Statesman to stop such advertising.

Good luck in your pursuit. I am sorry you have to undergo this endeavor at this time.

No delivery on a paid subscription and harassment for unpaid subscriptions.
On October 17, we received a bill for the paper, but my husband decided to cancel and the amount charged to our credit card was reversed. During the ensuing days, we did not receive delivery. My husband died 10/30 and I reinstated the subscription on Nov.1, as verified by my credit card payment to the Idaho Statesman. I received 4 deliveries, then it was cancelled. As explained by the Statesman, I owed not only for the original 10/17 subscription but also for the paid subscription of Nov.1. I have complained for over 30 days, had people tell me that I was correct that I owed nothing to the Statesman and that I had an active paid subscription.
I have since filed with the BBB and the Idaho Attorney General concerning this abuse.
At least they have not accused me of not paying for my husband's obit! We have received the Idaho Statesman for 31 years at this address and another 10 years at a previous address. You will see by our credit report, we pay our bills and a credit rating of over 800.
THERE HAS NO RELIEF FROM THE IDAHO STATESMAN OR ITS OWNERS.

MINUS 10 STARS. DO NOT PAY TO HAVE A PAPER DELIVERY SUBSCRIPTION WITH THE IDAHO STATESMAN.
I paid an excessive amount for paper delivery to my home on 4/24/2021. Almost immediately I received SPOTTY DELIVERY. On 8/16/21 I posted a review on this site and asked to CANCELL my SUBSCRIPTION due to non-delivery. The Statesman's reply was a canned reply: "Your subscription will automatically renew after the initial term at the current rate unless you tell us to cancel. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current subscription term. ALL SUBSCRIPTION ACCOUNT PAYMENTS ARE NONREFUNDABLE. Our content is delivered to you by various methods and formats. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT to substitute the delivery and format of your print subscription with only an eEdition at any time."

In other words, if I can EVEN find out how to cancel my subscription, they still keep the exceptionally high amount I paid, in good faith, for a delivered printed paper, no matter if The Statesman delivers or not. I would end up in jail if I tried to get out of a PAI D CONTRACT and KEEP MY MONEY.

I RECEIVED ANOTHER REPLY FROM THEM: This is from
Scarlet:"We are very sorry for the poor delivery service. ...we have applied credits on your account for the missed deliveries...For your convenience, your SUBSCRIPTION WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW AFTER THE INITIAL TERM AT THE CURRENT RATE UNLESS YOU TELL US TO CANCEL. CANCELLATIONS TAKE EFFECT AT THE END OF YOUR CURRENT SUBSCRIPTION TERM."

The LAST thing I want to do is automatic renewal. The Statesman has kept my $643.17 for a 6 months donation. I WANT OUT. I am an 84 year old widow on a fixed income. I have talked with a few neighbors and many of them have pooled their resources to pay the exorbitant price for a delivered paper. Many are NOT computer or smart phone savvy. For them an eEdition is not doable. I just want out. I am so disgusted with your lack of honesty.

I have gotten nothing but canned answers and a brick wall. Since I wrote my first review your performance: NO PAPER August 15, 16, 17, These papers were delivered with the paper on the 18th. DO THE BOY SCOUTS STILL HOLD PAPER DRIVES. OLD PAPERS ARE USELESS. NO PAPER August 19, 20, 22, The paper for the 22nd was delivered with the 23rd. No PAPER August 24, 25, 26.

I tried calling their customer service number several more times, waited 30 minutes plus ON HOLD. Gave Up. My question: I can't be the only one that you are pulling this scam on to build your coffers. You must have someone bought off to get away with this.

I did re-review the letter you sent 3/22/2021 about your policy changes. I noticed something very curious about THAT letter: MOST OF THE LETTER, printed in 12 to 14 point Times New Roman that contains serifs to guide the eye when reading printed content is a SALES PITCH FOR YOUR eEdition. The rest of the letter was presented as an ADDENDUM and was printed in 8 or 10 point ARIAL Print that is hard to read. Except for the statement "Cancellations take effect at the end of your current subscription term. All subscription account payments are non-refundable." That was printed in Times New Roman with serifs and bolded even though the type size was still smaller. Looks like someone planned ahead to KEEP our money.

It is a minus 10 for delivery service.
NEVER get paper anymore, and if we are lucky, we get 2 in 1 day. Who wants day old news? NO, I do not want to read the digital edition, I WANT A PRINT COPY. We started taking the "other paper" and the service is outstanding. Learn from it Statesman.

NO PAPER AGAIN.
A couple of weeks before 8/4/21, the MORNING paper was either missing or delivered around 10AM. The paper was missing 8/4/21 wasn't delivered that day. Some rocket scientist decided to start delivering the MORNING paper every other day with that day's current paper. The 8/4 paper was delivered on 8/5/21 with the 8/5/21 paper. This has become a pattern: 8/6 paper was delivered along with the 8/8 paper (this makes the 8/6 paper 2 days old. The 8/9 paper was never delivered despite the statement that it would be delivered by 1600. It was delivered with the 8/10 paper. Today is 8/11 and the note online said the paper was late but would be delivered by 1700. I have taken the paper since 1994 and never had these kinds of delivery problems.

I think it's a real insult to those who like the paper version and are paying a PREMIUM FOR DAILY MORNING DELIVERY, to be expected to be satisfied with EVERY OTHER DAY DELIVERY. It has looked for some time that you were trying to force everyone to read the E-Edition. Not everyone who READS the morning paper is computer savvy.

I can read the news posted on my computer, which is less political than the Statesman, but I was willing to pay a premium as the paper paper was nice to read while I eat breakfast, before I start my day. I was MY luxury.

I therefore request that you cancel my subscription to the Statesman immediately and ISSUE ME A REFUND for the balance that I prepaid. I paid $653.17 on 4/24/2021 with my personal check #3108. The period I paid for will end 11/14/2021. I should have a sizeable balance due for a Refund.

No paper today!
It's the first time since the last big fire that we haven't received our paper! None of us have, here in Garden Valley. What's the problem? I see no fire or flood, the delivery people all still seem alive. So what's the deal?

I have been a customer of the Idaho Statesman for many years, but I am not happy with them now. I pay for a year at a time and pay extra for the TV guide (which a lot of the time doesn't match the TV listings). Last year I didn't get a Saturday paper and I called them & the guy said he would send one out, never got it. Twice I haven't gotten the TV guide. If this happens again I will drop the statesman & go to another paper. I did NOT get a TV guide in my paper today, 02/01/2020. Every time they have a sub this happens. Laura Riecker 2228 N. February 22, Dear Sir or Madam: Mr [redacted] 's complaint is in reference to the Idaho Statesman's renewal policy The Idaho Statesman makes every effort to communicate with our subscribers the need to cancel their subscription if they do not wish to renew This message is communicated in three different areas: On the back of all our renewal notices it states, "Your subscription will continue until you call to cancel." Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: In the almost weeks (Sunday marked weeks since singing up in December 2015) since signing up for the "select" AKA YES! paper, I have NEVER received a single delivery of the newspapers to my homeDespite SEVERAL complaints EVERY Sunday about not receiving either the Wednesday or Sunday paper at my homeI find it sad that it took filing a complaint with the Revdex.com to actually get someone's attention on this matter even though I have called and emailed to complain about non-delivery at my homeI have received canned responses from the three customer service reps that have responded to my complaint emails giving me bull crap responses about being forwarded to managers and district managers with obviously no intent on doing so to begin withI have kept every single response that I have received from all these customer service reps since this entire thing has started I do not understand what is so hard about this delivery person dropping my paper at my home other than I live in a trailer courtI see the papers being delivered all up and down the main road (N [redacted] RD) when I drive down it but the delivery person is too lazy or is discriminating against me due to having to come into my trailer court Sincerely, [redacted]

[redacted] Thank you for contacting the Idaho Statesman Please accept my apology that your newspaper has not been delivered as subscribed I've worked with the service team, and per our conversation this morning your delivery issues have been resolved For your inconvenience, I've credited your account for two weeks delivery If you have any further issues with delivery, please contact me directly for assistance Thank you for being a loyal Idaho Statesman subscriber[redacted]

Mrs***, Thank you for contacting the Idaho Statesman I'm sorry for your loss! I'm also not pleased to hear that you've been frustrated when contacting our customer service department If at any time I may be of assistance to you, I'd be happy to take care of you personally In researching your account it was shortened by the premium content days I'd be happy to restart your account and credit your for those days as we surely were not trying to take you by surprise Due to feedback such as yours, we have made changes to our kiosk sales Please let me know if I may restart your account, giving you credit for the time you expected If I may be of service to you at any time in the future, I can be reached at 208-377- Sincerely, Brenda L [redacted] CIS / Customer Service Manager

Thank you for contacting the Idaho Statesman As per our conversation on July 3, 2017, we appreciate your feedback and truly do value every reader we have -- and want to keep them We value journalism, and are passionate about finding ways to fund it As I am sure you know, the media has faced dramatic revenue declines in advertising in the past decades To respond to that, we have to charge our customers more than we historically have in the past The ones that pay less are offset by those who pay more Our published rate is $per week for day deliver (publish this rate daily in our paper) Your parents were at a percent discount at $per week In light of the rate increases being within our procedure we are denying the refund of the disputed amount requested It is very hard to fund the journalists, sales reps, carriers and others who put out a publication that we believe is vital to our community Please know we are not trying to penalize anyone; we are trying to fund something we truly believe in, and we hope you believe in too Dynamic pricing is not a perfect model, but we use it so we can get on new subscribers and hope that they eventually will stay with us and pay us the full rate If you need further assistance you may reach me at [redacted] @idahostatesman.com or 208-377- Sincerely, Cris B [redacted] Relationship Services VIP Agent
