The Plumbing Service Company in Orlando Florida failed to honor their 1 year warranty on installation of water heater.
The Plumbing Service Company in Orlando Florida is a scam. They installed a new water heater in my home on January 19, 2019, and 3 weeks later the electrical connection that they installed shorted out and caught fire. They refused to fix the problem or honor their 1 year warranty on installation. They said it was my problem. I hired a master electrician to fix the install and he stated that the materials used on their install were sub-standard and could no longer even be purchased. My total cost was $185.00.

Desired Outcome

Refund my expenses and honor their stated warranty.

We do not warranty parts or materials that we did not supply. We went back to the home and could not find any problems with our installation or the parts we supplied. Home Owner had an electrical issue that had nothing to do with our installation.

The Plumbing Service Company supplied all material used in the installation of my current water heater that was installed on 1-26-2019. They supplied the water heater, the pipes, the fittings, and the materials used to connect the electric. Additionally, they supplied all of the materials for the previous water heater which was installed on 10-26-2015. They supplied the water heater, the pipes, the fittings, and the materials used to connect the electric. They failed to honor their stated 1 year warranty and 24 hour emergency service. I am no longer seeking any compensation or service from this company. I believe that they are completely disreputable. I am requesting that my comments be published on your website so that other potential customers can be warned about the possible danger and expense of doing business with The Plumbing Service Co.

I did not forward the invoice from the electrical contractor since they have requested that I not involve them. I accept the company's claim that it may have been a faulty breaker. There is really no proof either way, and I will accept the responsibility for my own equipment. As I said previously, I am no longer seeking any compensation from this company and I wish them good luck in the future.

We have no problem honoring our warranty. We did not supply the wire nut the homeowner is complaining about. we are not sure that is what the problem is because there is not history to back up the home owner's claims. We asked the Homeowner for a copy of the electricians bill. He has FAILED TO SUPPLY US WITH ONE. What the homeowner fails to mention is that we just change out his Water Heater under warranty. Our electrician feels the problem was a power surge or a defective beaker. The wire nuts the Homeowner is complaining about were existing and were manufactured by 3M. I gave the Homeowner 3M's contact information so he could submit his claim. We did not supply or do we stock the wire nuts and they do not appear on the invoice. They were existing and they were manufactured by 3M who would be happy to entertain the Homeowners claims. An internet search of the wire nuts in question did no reveal a problem with them.

Without being forewarned, I was charged $135 for what was supposed to be an in-home visit for a firm quote and answering my questions.
My complaint is that on May 10 2018 I was charged $135 for what was supposed to be a sales visit, without being told so in advance. The following explains what happened.

I called The Plumbing Service Company to get a verbal quote to install a new water heater. The woman who answered the phone said it would be $755, including a 50 gallon heater. I asked what brand of heater and she said Premier. I said I new nothing about those and would have to *** it. I did and could find absolutely nothing about Premier. However, the two other quotes I got were a little above $1000 so I called back to ask someone to come to my house to answer my questions and give a firm quote. A man answered the phone this time and I explained why I was calling. He said he was in my area could get back to me in 45 minutes. I thought he was saying that he would be coming that day, but on the return call he just set up an appointment two days later. No problem, my heater wasn't broke; it was 15 years old and clogged with sediment., so I had decided to replace it. Nothing was said about a charge for that visit.

When the man arrived it turned out that he was an actual tech not just a sales representative.
The first thing he did was ask me to sign my name on a dotted line on his cell phone. I told him I couldn't sign anything without reading about what I was signing; he didn't offer to show me the document (which later proved to be a work order to install a heater!). We then went on to answer my questions. The Premier heater supposedly is actually made by*** a well-known company, but I still couldn't get specs. When I balked at agreeing to that heater, he said I was free to get what I wanted from***, etc. So I asked what the installation cost would be and he said $570. (I found a minimum-cost *** 50 gallon heater at *** for $400, but that ran the cost up to $970.) That price included an expansion tank, which he said was required (I don't see that in the code), and a new cold water valve, which I wanted, and which is normally part of the installation. There was no cost assigned to getting a permit, which he said was unnecessary (it is, by code). When done, he said there would be a $135 charge for the visit! I'm 81 and hate confrontation, so I reluctantly gave him a check. He then pulled up his phone and again asked me to sign; when I repeatedly balked, he assured me that there would be no further obligation to pay anything (and there hasn't been).

I wrote a letter to the Company, which contained the above information (and more), requesting a refund, and also have engaged in a long series of emails with them. Having obtained no refund, I am making this complaint and also submitting a review of my experience with this company.

Desired Outcome

A refund of $135.

Mr. story is not quite accurate and his complaint is an attempt to extort a refund from us with the threat of harming our reputation with the Revdex.com. He made that very plain in his E-Mail.

He did speak with our girl here who gave him some pricing. She quoted him $755.00 for a new heater and explained to him that we do not provide in home free estimates and that our min call was $135.00

He then called back at a later date and asked me about an hours worth of questions about different water heaters. I answered him as best as I could and encouraged him to do his homework.

He called back a few days later and spoke with m again. He wanted to proceed with the installation of a 5o gallon direct replacement electric water heater. He said his existing heater was a 50 Gallon.

A work order was generated and sent to Mr. Anderson 3 times. Copy attached. Homeowners are asked to read the work orders over when they receive them and to E-Mail us back if any of the information is incorrect. \Please Note the work order clearly states "Install new 50 gal electric water heater" and in the terms and conditions section of the work order it says "There are no free estimates, however, estimate fees are refundable if we are awarded the
job. Phone quotes are subject to change upon physical inspection of the work requested"

The Technician went out as scheduled and found that Mr. heater was an 80 gallon not a 50 gallon as he had stated. The Technician spent 42 minutes on the job site going over all the requirements of Water heaters and the code. Mr. signed both the work order and the Invoice and then paid the technician the Minimum call of $135.00 which he paid with a check. I heard nothing from Mr. at all while my Technician was there or for 11 days thereafter.
On 5/21/2018 I received an complaint E-Mail threatening to ruin our reputation with the Revdex.com if we did not mail him a complete refund. If he had a problem with the service he could of call when the technician was there or shortly thereafter not 11 days later.

We did not charge Mr. a restocking fee for the Water Heater he ordered and then decided not to use. We just charged him for our trip out there and the time we spent on the job looking over his system and educating him on the code and installation requirements.

Inaccuracies:

Par. 1. I made no "threat" to "extort" in the letter that I mailed them and that I subsequently emailed them upon receiving no confirmation of delivery. A copy of the letter is attached. I did state as a matter of fact that "If you do not honor my request for a refund I will write a complaint to the Revdex.com and send this letter as a review, mainly to inform others to be aware of my experience with you." I will not become a destitute retiree if I do not receive the refund, and I am tired of all the hassle. So, I am willing to drop the request, allowing the Revdex.com to close the case, if the Revdex.com will publish my review, which I already wrote but afterwards saw that it would not be published along with a complaint.

Par 2. I honestly do not recall anything being said about free estimates and certainly not about a $135 charge for such. I'm 81 and not infallible, so if they record calls ask them to send you an audio copy.

Par. 3. The length of the call is an exaggeration.

Par. 4. I did not agree to do an installation; again, get an audio copy.

Par. 5. The first time I saw the work order was an email after the tech visit.

Par. 6. I remember that the heater label said 50 gallon, but that is a non-issue. I only signed one document. I refused to sign whatever it was when the tech came, but upon reluctantly giving him a check for the $135 visit did reluctantly sign something that he said would not obligate me further. I now believe that to have been the work order. I have never seen my actual signature on a document of theirs; get true copies of the documents.

Par. 7. See above Par. 1.

Again I am the person who took the WORK ORDER from Mr.. I have no reason to go to all the trouble of purchasing a heater and sending a man to his house if he did not order the equipment. We have a lot of work and we actually loose money when this happens. No one here tried to take advantage of this elderly gentleman. He has gotten more than his moneys worth through his phone communications and the site visit. The system sends out three work orders before the technician arrives. Mr. did acknowledge receipt of those work orders. Attached are his work orders, his invoice, the action log for this work order and copies of his signature.

This man got good advice and prompt service. Unfortunately we can not provide that for free, especially when equipment is ordered and delivered to a job site as scheduled with a technician to install it.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There is no proposed resolution, not even the actual signature copies of the documents I requested.

My Rebuttal:

For the record, my last rebuttal requested copies of the actual two documents I supposedly signed on May 10, bearing my actual signature. The Company (The Plumbing Service Company) has not provided those documents.

My complaint originated from one simple thing: I never told them I was ready to have them install a water heater. Somehow they came to that conclusion from two calls I placed to them seeking information only. As a result a tech came to my home on May 10, supposedly with a work order and a water heater to install. I was never shown the work order or the heater. When I refused to sign what apparently was the work order, the tech proceeded to answer the questions I had and firmed up the quote. He concluded his visit by saying that the charge for the visit was $135. Despite what the Company has said, they never mentioned a charge for a visit to answer my questions and provide a firm quote. I reluctantly gave the tech a check and (foolishly) signed a document I never saw.

The Company says I signed two documents, a work order and an invoice. I need to see my signature on those documents. Hence the above request.

As I have already stated, I am ready to drop my complaint to avoid an unending exchange of rebuttals that have resulted from the one misunderstanding stated above. However, I will only do that if the Revdex.com assures me, in writing, that they will publish a review of my experiences with the Company. I have no way to attach my review, so I include it below for Revdex.com review.

Revdex.com REVIEW
I phoned (The Plumbing Service) Company to get a cost estimate to install a new water heater in my home and to get some information on what they would be doing. They provided that in the call. After doing a little more research and thinking, I called back to invite them to come to my home to view my garage installation, answer some questions, and give me a firm quote. If all was satisfactory I was ready to sign up with them; they had given me a cost estimate that was considerably below two other phone quotes. They appeared to be a good choice; they have been in business a long time and have a good Revdex.com rating.

However, a misunderstanding arose. Somehow they thought that I was agreeing to have the heater installed! As a result a tech came to my home, apparently with a work order and a water heater to install. I was never shown the work order or the heater. When I refused to sign something I had never seen, the tech proceeded to answer the questions I had and firmed up the quote. The quote turned out to be much more than the original estimate, but I don't fault him for that. That's what home visits are for: getting all the facts on record, namely a detailed contract that the customer feels comfortable signing. He concluded his visit by saying that the charge for the visit was $135! Despite what the Company has said, they never mentioned a charge for a visit to answer my questions and provide a firm quote. I reluctantly gave the tech a check and (foolishly) signed a document I never saw, after he assured me that I would not be obligated for any further charges (and that was true, I have not had to pay anything more).

After thinking things over I decided that I really shouldn't have had to pay the $135; after all, it was the Company's mistake. So I sent them a letter, explaining what had happened, and asking for a refund. I received no answer, so I sent them an email copy of the letter. This time they promptly answered, refusing to refund and stating that I had told them to do the install.

What followed was a series of email exchanges, with me refuting much of what they were saying, and basically getting nowhere.

They said that they had emailed me three work orders to review and approve. I saw none. Later, I thought to look in my email spam folder, which went back to the May 8 date of the work order that I have recently seen. There was nothing there; however, the folder ran out on May 8, so there may have been an email missing. I tried to look in my email trash folder also, but it did not go back as far as May 8.

They say I signed a work order and an invoice at the end of the tech's visit. I recall signing only the one (unread) document. However, I asked for copies of the documents they say I signed; at age 81 my memory is far from perfect. I have not received any copies bearing my actual signature.

At this point I have kissed my $135 goodbye and have resolved to be very careful when dealing with service companies in the future. I'm left with the feeling that I need a lawyer to conduct what should be a simple task.
