I contacted Thomas Edison Electric due to the electric power went out Per PECO, it was not PECO's problem and they informed me to contact an electrician I picked this company which ripped me off Since it was emergency, they charged me $just to come to my house and also charged me $just for troubleshooting before even looking at the problem Then, I had to sign to pages of paperwork for agreement They do take only cash and credit card, not check I did not agreed with their procedure before even do the job, however, I had no choice since the power had been out for over hour already and I could not go without electricity until next day I do not post any comments against any company before, but I had to let everyone know about this company's procedures and charging outrageous amount of money to public Please do not do business this company ever I am so sorry I did

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:There was no “misunderstanding” or “miscommunication”There was incomplete work, overcharging, and unethical behavior, as follows: INCOMPLETE WORK: On June 30, Norman worked on the electrical panel at our house, starting around 2:am and finishing approximately at noonCertainly stores were closed when he began his workBut if he had run out of seal to fix the electrical duct, certainly some electrical supply store would have been open by noon of June It is a falsehood to state otherwiseIf he had indeed run out of seal and all the electrical supply stores in our area were closed for some reason all day June 30, he could have put in a request for another technician who had some seal to come by and do the workHe just didn’t seal the ductAnd he didn’t mention it, to us or anyone else We were not told that Norman “ran out of seal” when he was at our house on June or anytime after that by anyone at Thomas EdisonWe discovered the leaky seal on the electrical duct ourselves, many days after Norm was goneIt is fortunate we made this discovery ourselves and called to have it fixed Otherwise we would have the same leak causing the same problem that destroyed the original electrical panelUpon our call and request, Guy was sent on July “at no charge” because the first pricey job wasn’t finished properlyThomas Edison knew it was their responsibilityThey said so on the phone to us In-between June and July there were several major thunderstorms in our areaWe were told by Thomas Edison that the new electrical panel did not suffer any damage due to the leaky sealWe think this is lucky for us In addition to not completing the job, Norman also did not label all the breakers on the electrical panelWe still don’t know what all controls what Bottom line: the expensive electrical panel job was not completed or done properly on June UNETHICAL The picture of the dangling wires attached to Thomas Edison’s response has been identified by my husband as the picture he was shown by the technician from Thomas Edison on July My husband states the picture was blown up on a computer screen to focus on the dangling wiresThe technician told him these were our responsibility and only the other side of the triplex wedge node was the public utility's responsibilityThe dangling wires were SPECIFICALLY pointed to and described as a major hazard that must be fixed immediately – by Thomas EdisonThe technician said Thomas Edison could fix it for the special price of $instead of $or moreThey would give us a “multi-job discount”My husband was urged to sign a contract on the spot, in order to get this multi-job discountMy husband said he would have to wait to see what I said to do In Thomas Edison’s written proposal they discuss the triplex wedgeThe proposal also talks about the source wire along the houseIt is correct that the wire along the house is the owner’s responsibilityBut this is not what was used to scare my husband about spending thousands on electrical workThe proposal states “Upon arrival found Triplex wedge clamp snap[p]ed Recommend replacement”When I called another electrician and read to him what was written on the proposal he said “you need to call [redacted] not me.” Nothing to do with the triplex wedge is our responsibility, he saidJoe White of Thomas Edison has told me several times that “pictures are worth a thousand words”The attached picture shows the repair that was performed by [redacted] (the public utility company), including the triplex wedgeLet’s say Thomas Edison could somehow claim they only meant to worry us about the wire along the house (They do not include a picture of this wire.) It does not cost anything near $to replace or repair a source wire, as estimates from other electricians have shown us Bottom line: the technician from Thomas Edison Electric Incoutright lied to us and tried to scare us about what was our responsibility and would have taken $from us for something we weren't responsible for, if we had not asked someone else OVERCHARGING: The other electrician who told us it was the public utility's responsibility also told us we were overcharged by at least $for the electrical panel repair that Thomas Edison Electric Inc did for usYes, it was an emergency situation late in the evening when we called – it was the middle of the night when Norman arrived Norman briefly showed us some page in a binder and pointed to a figure and said normally it costs more but for some reason you can have a discount and we’ll charge you $This “discount” is $more than the electrician I talked to would have charged for the same service, and has charged other people for the same service, according to reports on Angie’s List The response from Thomas Edison suggests I should have checked with other electricians for pricing on the electrical panel workI have since, and all are clear with me that $is way out of line for the cost of replacing an electrical panel, even as emergency work$is an average figure that has often been suggested to meAngie’s List Deals come as low as $ The work was incomplete, the breakers are mostly unlabeled, and the job took ten hours to finish (other reports suggest five hours is common for this work) It’s difficult to see what would make this service worth $to $more than the average going rate Bottom line: We were indeed overcharged for routine electrical work, incompletely and poorly done, by more than $So asking for a refund of $is reasonable This company preys on people in distress, overcharges them by a large amount, and tries to scare them into doing work that the public utility should do I was badgered on phone calls with Joe White of Thomas Edison and told I was lying I was offered the refund of $if only I would give the company an A rating on [redacted] and drop this complaint with the Revdex.com There is at least one demonstrable falsehood in the response from Thomas Edison, regarding the availability of seal Summary: I believe it is correct to say this company has behaved unethically, in overcharging for routine work done incompletely and telling the client that they are getting a great discount, in trying to solicit large sums for work that was the responsibility of the public utility, and in trying to buy an A rating on Angie’s List Regards, [redacted]

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response If you wish, you may update it before sending it.] Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me although not what we had hoped for and the information given in the business response letter is incorrect in the following points: Our last name is [redacted] , not [redacted] as stated once in response letter We asked if the amount quoted was because it was an emergency and were told that no it was not We never received a written quote other than the contract which was signed BEFORE the work was started, not AFTER it was done as stated in the response letter We only went with their service because they did not show up on time and it was going to be in the teens that night and we were worried about freezing pipes All the other electricians we got estimates from were told up front that the electrical panel box needed to be replaced and the number of breakers and sizes required According to Thomas Edison Electric's business description on Angie's List, they are supposed to offer a 10% senior discount which was never offered We were never given the $discount for mentioning the ad in our phone book, which my husband did mention to them I, *** [redacted] , as mentioned in response letter, never signed any papers My husband did They did not have all the the parts needed on their truck and had to go purchase themWe were quite happy with our insurance company and what they told us completely coincided with what other people and other electricians told usWe agree to accept the $to settle this matter in order to have the situation resolved and at least pay part of what we put on our credit card We have learned a hard lesson here and will never again agree to any work being done without a number of estimates Regards, [redacted]

This company is definition of PRICE- GOUGING! I had a breaker that needed to be replacedI called their emergency service at 9pm on Aug 15th, an electrician named Patrick arrived at 11pmI knew up front it would cost $for him to show up (OK , it was an emergency) ...however the company refused to estimate the repair cost on the phonePatrick arrives and says it will be $to "as" the problem, after he already confirmed it was the breaker as soon as he saw it; then he says it will cost $to replace the amp breaker!!! $1300+ to replace a $breakerWhen I said no thank you, he offered 10% off...I offered to pay him $to fix it...he said he was worth much more than thatI sat in the heat/dark all night and got an honest, top-rate professional to fix it in the morning for $Only after the fact did I read the numerous complaints against this dishonest companyCBS Philly even did a TV segment about them: http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2015/02/25/3-on-your-side-big-repair-bills-from...

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: while I accepted the payment offered (since I was never going to receive my ful refund as requested) I still don't agree that the work was perfomed as agreed or professional I was disrespected and told I didn't know what I requested they perform for the job I still feel entitled to a full refund and only accepted a partial refund due to the length of timeit took to get any money out of them and that only occurred because your complaint was on their desk Regards, [redacted]

Hello ** [redacted] , As a matter of good will we have already refunded ** [redacted] $ All the work on the contract was agreed to and completed in a professional manner

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:I strongly object to MrW***'s allegation that his was a reasonable fee to charge for work that had no relationship to the issue that lead to the initial callI understand that he doesn't agree with this but every single electrician I've shown his invoice to has dropped their jaw in amazement that anyone could charge this type of fee for the work renderedAdditionally, while post-work cleis generally a good thing, his worker removed any evidence that might have been useful to verify the need for what was doneIn much the same way an automotive repair facility will usually show you the damaged parts that needed to be replaced in the case of a car repairHis previous company [redacted] , before it went bankrupt, had numerous complaints of a similar nature so my contention is that we need to shine a light on a pattern of unethical behavior that has been demonstrated [redacted] m He has stated to me that this is his business model and that it is fair and reasonableI strongly disagreeWe would in no circumstance allow him or his worker in my mother's home againThanks Regards, [redacted]

Hello [redacted] , An emergency electrical service request was called into our office on the night of June 29, after 9:00pmNorman completed our contracted work of $in a professional manner as stated on an emergency basis working through the night on June 30, 2014.We feel this complaint is a misunderstanding of the recommended electrical repairs between [redacted] and [redacted] that occurred on July 22, [redacted] was not present in the home when our electrician Guy came on July 22, Guy met with [redacted] that evening and shared in writing his recommendationsAttached is the contract for the work completed June 30, with a signature by [redacted] stating she was 100% satisfied with the work completed and nothing further was owedAttached is the proposed work contract dated July 22, that was given and signed for by [redacted] Attached is a photo of the wires dangling along the roof top of the ***'s home [redacted] energy was called by [redacted] a few days later and [redacted] repaired the triplex that they are responsible for [redacted] did not and will not repair what we recommended on the contractGuy came back at no charge to apply some exterior duct seal to the meter box as an added measure to keep water from penetrating the new electrical panel since Norman ran out of it and supply houses are closed in the middle of the nightWe have completed our contract as stated and will continue to honor the warranty for the work completedWe don't feel a discount of $is warranted for providing immediate emergency service in the middle of the nightIf price was the issue **& [redacted] should have called in other electricians for estimates prior to hiring us to complete the workWe hope this clarifies what we feel was a miscommunicationThank YouThomas Edison Electric Inc
