Tim O'Brien Homes Inc. Reviews (23)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
We have now been in this process with the Revdex.com and the company since June - to which - flex room door issue is still not resolved..cracks and splits in wood work - has been PARTIALLY resolved.. the door frames were fixed - that is it.. in the original attempt - they brought the wrong amount of wood to fix the wall caps..and only did half of the work leaving the area they did unfinished and looking scratched and poor with areas unstained etc.  They then a few weeks later dropped off several other extremely long pieces of wood to "finish" the area but the wood/stain is a completely different color.  We have had our stair way unfinished for several weeks now with the wrong wood sitting in our hallway as there is NO other place to keep these pieces - they don't fit in our basement and in our garage would be damaged as there is no room for them.  So we have to step over them as they lay in our hallway - a bit ridiculous..as it has been over a month!- our siding continues - yes there was an agreement to - file a warranty claim and upgrade our siding instead of repair our basement hallway - however, we were told this would be resolved "as soon" as possible. Now we are told we may need to wait for the warranty check.  Again we have made the company aware of our issue with the siding in February and we are at the end of August with discolored siding on our home.. and may have to now wait an additional 4- 6 weeks for the warranty process to complete - we are getting into fall soon and would like this resolved still.Unfortunately this process - like many of our processes with dealing with this company have been extremely painful.  The wood work and the trim sitting in our house for over a month is just absurd and being given more that is the wrong color is even more absurd- and not having a date when all of it will be fixed.. unacceptable.  Just goes with why this was opened in the first place.
Regards,
[redacted]

We are in process with them and expect to have all items resolved in the next few weeks.  We needed to order material and coordinate with our client

We built with Tim O'Brien homes last year. The process went very well, and I was grateful for his realtor, Jackie's, help and patience. I loved the fact that they have a showroom, so I didn't have to run all over looking at different suppliers. It was quite swift and painless. If we build again, we plan to go with Tim O'Brien.

My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Tim O'brien Homes. We purchased a model home about a year ago in Franklin WI and are extremely happy with our decision. Even as first time home owners, the Tim O'Brien staff made the whole purchasing transaction seamless. Once we moved in, the staff was very diligent in providing support to any concerns and questions we had. They provided detailed information and instructions about how to maintain the house in a good condition.
The design of the house is absolutely amazing. Every family member and friend who visited the house for the first time had only positive comments to make. Also, a major advantage of the Tim O'Brien construction is its energy efficiency. Our energy bill is equal or even less than that of the apartment we used to live in.
Tim O'Brien Homes provides the best warranty of all the builders we talked to. A year after the house was purchased, the staff did a thorough inspection and provided all the support was asked for.
I highly recommend Tim O'Brien Homes.

Great company to work with from the planning, to building, to closing. They make the process extremely smooth and are always there to answer any questions that the client may have. Great experience and I would highly recommend working with Tim O'Briend Homes. The construction of the home is superior to most other models that we looked at and you get more for the price than you do with most other builders - it is a quality built home.

This is the third time we have built a home, but the first time with TOB homes. We found the building process with TOB homes superior to our other two builds. We appreciated having one go-to-person thru the entire process. We have had some issues getting timely customer service for a couple of issues since we moved in. We are hopeful these will get resolved very shortly. Perhaps we were spoiled by the quick and timely communication by our salesperson and expeditor during the building process

Review: We are 2 years into our new home and have had SEVERAL not minor issues - all of them took a lot of lot of emails, phone calls and basically getting pretty upset prior to any resolution, the customer service and response on any follow up 11 month issues, etc, is beyond ridiculous. We are on our 3rd warranty person. We have several items that are in need of resolution # 1 being the most concerning

1) siding we have two different color siding, on two sides of our house..we were told the wrong lot was send back in February - still no resolution. The communication on the resolutions is varied and still we have yet to have anyone from the siding company contact us were we given an estimate on when this will be resolved. Now today we are told its out of their hands.

2)Basement door hallway is like an optical illusion something is off, they tried to fix it the best they could but it is still an issue.

3)Doors opening into flex room cannot open one door all the way due to it not being centered, the door hits the wall

4)cracks and splits in woodwork trim and wall caps- been told this would be resolved back on May 22nd - still no response has been an issue since our 11 month.

f.Desired Settlement: We would like our siding replaced..and in a timely fashion, now after 4 months we are being told its out of TIM OBRIEN's hands and we have to call a different company.

We would like our basement door issue resolved, not done the best they can, and all the woodwork that has splits and cracked replaced in a TIMELY fashion. We have been EXTREMELY patient with emails, calls etc..over the past 2 years with the NUMEROUS issues we have had..(not all mentioned above) and we have no patience for being ignored any longer, we would like the decency for them to respond with a date of when things will be taken care of.

Response:

In response to the claim

below. We are at fault of following up in a timely manner. At the

same time there are concerns listed that we were not aware were concerns (or still concerns).

Our Customer Care Team (CCT) has been

working on the siding since February. Initially there were three pieces

needing correction. After further review it is more widespread and is the

whole house. CCT has been working with our siding supplier to

have a manufacturers rep come out and look at the siding. Unfortunately our

previous rep passed away in March. The Manufacturer has appointed a new rep to

our region last month. We spoke with our supplier and let him know

that this response time is unacceptable and we need to treat every claim as a

top priority. As of today, the siding has been ordered and we will schedule a time to replace all the affected areas.CCT had this

repaired during the 11-month warranty but never had it signed off. It has

now resurfaced. We need to make sure we get buyer’s to initial off on

work that is complete when it is completed. We will review the door area again. This is an issue we

were not aware of until now. One of the French doors opens to about 160

degrees and then hits the side wall. We will address the concern so the door does not hit the wall. The cracked and

split trim is in the process of being repaired. Material was ordered 2

weeks ago, however, the customers were never given a definitive date as to when

it was going to be replaced. We will schedule a time to replace this trim when we receive the material from our supplier.

Our Customer Care Team could have done a better job following up with our client. We have reviewed this breakdown with one of the team members and have provided coaching to him to prevent this from happening in the future. This is our fault for not following up more quickly and effectively and we will resolve all of these issues for our client.

Response:

We bought our home from Tim O'Brien when we moved here in 2011. It was a model home in Victoria Station in Pewaukee. We purchased because when we moved it was the only home in that market that met our family's needs. We were fortunate to do so. The home has more than met our expectations and the fact that it is energy efficient (solar panels as well a geothermal system)is a huge bonus. The service we have had from [redacted] team post purchase has also been outstanding. Whatever questions we have had or minor issues that have popped up, the Tim O'Brien team has answered our questions and helped resolve them. I have and will continue to recommend them as a builder.

My husband and I built with Tim O'Brien in 2012. I am beyond pleased with the service I received from the whole Tim O'Brien team. [redacted] was a pleasure to work with. He assisted my husband and I with revising current floor model plans to make it our own. We removed walls, added walls & arches etc. His quick response time was amazing. No sitting around waiting for that guy! [redacted] and [redacted] in the office assisted us after we moved in. Again, very timely in their responses. [redacted] - who assists with you picking cabinets, carpet, tile, paint, lighting etc. She has an amazing eye!
We also added Solar to our home. Best investment we ever made! Sure is nice when no electric bill arrives and we receive a check in the mail each month from the electric company!
You can't go wrong with Tim O'Brien and his team - we really enjoyed our building experience!!

We are extremely well satisfied with our new Tim O'Brien home. This is our 5th new construction home in 35 years and it was, by far, the best building experience we've had. Our New Home Consultant, [redacted],was knowledgeable, helpful, creative, and ever available to answer the dozens of questions we had before, during and after our home was built. We modified the design considerably and the design team and craftsmen who built the house were outstanding. Tim O'Brien Homes exceeded all of our expectations!

We had a very positive experience with Tim O'Brien homes. This was the fourth home we had constructed and the first in Wisconsin. We were very impressed with the professionalism, quality, timeliness and overall process with this build experience. Tim O'Brien Homes had many floor plans and allowed us to customize as needed while providing detailed and constructive feedback for us to take into consideration with every decision we made.
We have been in the home for nine months now, and we intentionally delayed writing this review to see how Tim O'Brien Homes would respond to issues after moving in. Every home we ever built had some bumps along the way, and Tim O'Brien Homes was very sensitive to any of our concerns or issues. The company treated us as if we were the only customer and gave us the attention and respect we deserved - before, during and after the build process.
We also have to say that the quality of the home is exceptional. We have no issues with the structure or operations of any of the materials or systems installed in the home.
I would highly recommended this builder and would build with them again if we had to do it all over again or were to build another home in the future.

Review: I live at a property that shares a back yard with another that is currently being built by Tim O'Brien Homes at [redacted]. At the start of construction a very large pile of top soil was placed at the back end of their property and within feet of our property line. After an entire summer of construction, this pile of dirt now has now become a ragweed and pigweed "forest" with plants as high as 4 or 5 feet. It is both unsightly and these plants are serious allergens - for myself, my family and our neighbors. I have called Tim O'Brien homes central office twice to request that this pile of weeds be cut down or removed. The woman who answered the phones, [redacted] - calling herself the office manager, promised that she would schedule a maintenance crew to come out to take care of the problem. After more than 10 days had passed with no such fulfillment of my request, I called again. This time the same woman answered the phone and copped a serious attitude. She said she sent an email to her contractor and was surprised it hadn't been completed. I suggested that a phone call to contractor was prudent. She told me "I have dozens of properties to manage and can't be expected to stay on top of all of them." Frankly, she was extremely rude. I told her I would be contacting the city of Madison within 3 days if it was not completed by then. To which I received more attitude.

I did indeed contact the city of Madison, speaking with a woman in Zoning & Planning named [redacted] at ###-###-####. [redacted] has since visually inspected the property, and sent a warning in the mail. I was told fines would ensue should Tim O'Brien Homes not deal with the matter in a timely fashion. It has now been over 3 weeks - the ragweed and pigweed have fully gone to seed and my backyard has started to look like the forest of weeds in the lot under construction.

I've attempted to be civil and been met with serious attitude. Big housing developers should be expected to follow some basic rules, especially showing some basic respect for the homeowners who share property lines with the homes they are building.Desired Settlement: Send out a landscape crew to cut down the forest of weeds at the back of [redacted] and have this same crew treat the back portion of our adjoining properties with some sort of weed & feed type of topsoil treatment of our choosing.

Response:

We recently built our home in Mequon with Tim O'Brien. I have to say I was impressed with the professional team that he has. [redacted] was the most patient and accommodating individual I have met. If there were any needs to modify or change existing plans she was on top of it. [redacted], the construction manager was always responsive to help if a problem and made sure you were satisfied with the results. Building a new home can be an overwhelming process. But the team at Tim O'Brien made it manageable and dare I say an enjoyable process

Bad customer service and terrible attention to details.

A wonderful experience with TOB. What a great group of professionals. Always willing
to do whatever it takes to satisfy the client. Amy, spent many hours in working on specific plan to meet my requirements. Then, there is Don: Who took over as construction manager after Carl resigned. He met with me several times during the
building process, all in a positive way. Can't forget Marilyn, who helped with interior
design. Also, Sue, the office manager, who has helped with issues along the way.
A GREAT GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS.

My wife and I built a new home with Tim O'Brien last year, and through out the entire process they were a pleasure to work with. Our new home consultant [redacted] was able to negotiate with a rival builder to secure the lot, and went above and beyond to win our business. Once committed, we had regular meetings reviewing drawings and modification to the original plan, receiving the changes in a timely manner. We were always kept in the loop with the construction manager, and were in our new home on the date they had promised. The few minor repairs that were needed after we moved in were dealt with quickly. I would highly recommend Tim O'Brien homes!

This was our second time building a house, and decided to build with Tim O’brien builders. We fell in love with the Birchwood the first time we walked in, and noticed the craftsmanship and high quality they put into their homes. Working [redacted] was a real pleasure. Her energy, enthusiasm, and her clear passion for what she does made our building process very enjoyable. Having a personalized interior designer to help with colors, floors, etc., was extremely valuable. [redacted] our construction manager impressed my husband and I the first time we met. He is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He provides recommendations along the process, and kept in close communication with us on next steps. His attention to detail is exceptional and listens to concerns and provides timely feedback. We had a bad winter and did not brake ground until April 17th, once we started everything came together quickely! We are on the home stretch and very excited to move into our new home!! Overall, our building experience has been very positive. It has been a real pleasure working with Tim O’brien Builders, and would recommend anyone building to check them out.

This was my first time building a home, third for my husband. It has been the most rewarding, educational and fun experience. Working with the team from Tim O'Brien homes was easy. Whenever we had a question, there was no delay in the response. The attention to detail is outstanding. Many times we would stop over to see the progress as it was being built and had a chance to speak with the tradesmen who were working and they were all polite and efficient and had no problems answering our questions too.

I had a positive experience with Tim O'Brien homes. All of the people I worked with...the realtor, consultants, and construction manager were all helpful, easily accessible, and made the entire home building process smooth and manageable. I have been in my home over a year now and am completely satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship of my home. I would recommend this builder to anyone I know thinking of building a home.

At this point, we are in the rough mechanical stage waiting on inspection for drywall. The process from sales to design and actual build has been a very enjoyable experience with the entire staff at Tim O'Brien Homes. Many friends who have built with other companies have advised that we get ready for stress and hidden costs. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the service and updates we receive from Tim O'Brien Homes and would recommend this team of professionals to any one looking to build their dream home.
