Review: I cancelled my membership by email on 07/25/14 after noticing that my membership would expire August 2014. I received an email back saying that I would have to personally go to the location and cancel so I did in July 2014, I have the written document signed by the employee at the counter ([redacted]) at that time and he told me that unfortunately I would have to pay another month because I needed to give them a 30 day written notice before cancelling and he wouldn't validate my email. I noticed that they did charge $49.99 for the month of August and September 2014. I didn't complain assuming that he would take care of my cancellation. To my surprise I was charged again in October 2014 and I went personally to the club again where the same employee [redacted] said that their system wasn't working properly and the he would make necessary notes so that I wouldn't be charge again. That never happened so I had to call my credit card company to dispute charge on Nov 15th 2014 and I received my money back 11/15/14. Since then I have gotten collection calls from a Florida company saying that they don't work for the gym but they are trying to collect those 49.99 from me. It's gotten to the point where I'm being harassed at work and all because they Gym will not take care of their cancellations properly. I need these calls to stop, they need to do the right thing and look through their cancellations and not charge customers months and months after properly cancelling. the number that keeps calling me is [redacted], I have been called twice in September and another call today 10/06/15. The representatives are so rude saying that they don't work for the gym and that If need to have an adjustment done I should contact the gym directly. I'm tired of talking to the gym with no results. I don't know what else I can do to finish any kind of communication & harassment by the business. I followed their cancellation policy to the dot they should honor their part as well.Desired Settlement: Gym should look through their cancellations and properly close accounts so that customers that properly cancelled their accounts won't be overcharged and then sent to a collection agency by mistake. I need those collection calls to stop immediately because I do not owe anything to this business and I have the paperwork that proves I personally cancelled my membership.

Review: I originally was a member of the Total Womans Gym which closed and the UFC Gym took over. They told all Total Womans Gym clients that they would continue with the pilates reformer and the instructor but we had to be a member of the gym. They had a special of 29.99 dollars just to go to pilates. I missed the special but was told if I jointed for 2 years I could get 29.99 dollar deal, so I did. I also paid 400 dollars for the reformer classes. Months later I was told that the pilates reformer class would not be there nor the instructor. I was told I could get a refund. I talked with the general manager Jim who said I would be getting refund in 5-7 days. After one month, I never received the refund. I Emailed the gym two times over two weeks and asked for a response and got none. I went in this week and Steve said Jim was no longer there and he would look into it. I asked why he never answered my Emails and he said he was busy. He told me by the end of the day he should have an answer. Two Days go by still no response. I called today and had to leave a message and still no answer. Please help me The original total was 349.50 plus 749.50 (taken out separately) Thank you for your help. Hopefully, you will have better luck than me.Desired Settlement: Total amount of fee paid as above.

Review: I attended a street fair during summer of 2014 and I spoke to UFC representative that told me about a gym near opening in 3 months near my house at Morena Blvd. I signed up and I paid 2 months (first month and last month). Their gym never opened so I received an email that they transferred me to another gym on Sports Arena which was very far my home. I went there for a month but since it was so far, I told them that I cant come anymore and cancel my membership. They never close my account and I was getting phone calls from the collecting agencies. I kept telling them I closed my account but they kept calling me. This gym in Sports Arena had many issues with their management and they finally got a new management and I was able to officially close my account and show that I have zero balance. I provide the collecting agency with the proof of zero balance but they still calling me and they want compensation. I am a high school student that has no job and I should not be force to pay for money that I do not owe.Desired Settlement: Please have them stop harassing me and my family and close this case.I owe them no money and I just want them to stop calling and harassing us.

Review: I have attempted to contact UFC gym since 7/1/14 to tell them I want to cancel my contract and ask how I can do that since I had misplaced my copy. I have been unable to get a person on the phone so have left detailed phone messages on 7/1, 7/10, 7/29,8/12, 8/21 & 9/1. I also went to the gym in person on 5 separate occasions only to find that the gym is actually closing down. Times that they list they are open, they are closed and most of the equipment in the gym has been removed, which is clearly visible from the large windows which face the street. In the time I have been attempting to contact them, the gym has also been sold to new owners. Despite that they are in the process of closing down & removing gym equipment, they keep billing my credit card $95.23 a month. I have now contacted my credit card company to block them from billing me yet the credit card company informed me that they keep trying to put through bills. UFC keeps calling me via an automated line & leaving messages and now sending me emails harassing me to pay even though they won't return any of my calls.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop harassing me and billing me. This gym is basically closed down but they keep billing me. Isn't this some type of fraud?

Response:

I am the new owner of the UFC Gym in Shrewsbury. I have cancelled the membership agreement and we are working to prevent any complaints from occurring in the future.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: The Short Version:

I discovered on June 19th, 2015, that I've been billed on our "[redacted]" every three months since Sept. of 2013 for $73.83, for a membership that was cancelled on 3/14/2013. (I have proof of this.) The total is $665.01. Shame on me for not catching it sooner but it slipped through the cracks every three months. We originally signed up with [redacted]" for my 17 year old son, paid our $350.00, which we lost; that was on us. Only to find out that a an unauthorized/unsigned contract was forwarded for billing purposes prior to us cancelling the membership. (I have a copy of the unsigned contract.) Spoke with "UFC Gym" who stated that they bought everyone's contracts from [redacted] when they went under. I told them that our membership was cancelled in 2013, they said that they aren't responsible since they aren't [redacted]. I have proof from my [redacted] statements that UFC has been the payee since Sept. of 2013. I spoke with several people in an effort to get my money back. I spoke with the regional manager who has stopped answering my texts, e-mails and phone calls.

FYI: When UFC took over [redacted] no correspondence of any sort was forwarded to us with regards to the change, which would have red flagged this issue much earlier on. I can forward all the documents to prove my case if needed.Desired Settlement: Full refund and want to be cleared of any pending bills from [redacted] which is the company that does the billing for UFC. I'm assuming they will expect the last payment and initiate a collection agency to follow this up. I'm not paying them one more red cent and do not want this underhanded mess to effect my credit rating.

Response:

This person is simply not telling the truth. They had a contract that automatically renewed which is very common, and they claim they contacted the previous owners regarding the cancellation of the contract yet we have no record of this. They have continued to pay for the membership for several years without any issue, and decided to suddenly contact us. The regional manager of the UFC asked them to please provide proof that they had requested the cancellation, and they are not able to provide this information. We have kindly explained to them that we cancelled the contract as soon as they contacted us, even though there should be a 30 day notice of cancellation and that is really all we're able to do at this time until they can provide proof that they requested cancellation of the contract prior to 6/2015. There was clear communication to all gym members in 2013 when the [redacted] franchise was purchased by UFC Gym, and this purchase did not change any contract obligations.

I am rejecting this response because:I will address each sentence of UFC Gym’s response individually:

Review: Practicing false advertisement and charging for services I have never used. Before signing up for the membership, I was told by Chris one of UFC employees, that it is not a contract and it can be cancel at anytime. But Chris was so anxious to make me sign the paper work, he never even mentioned to me that they will charge me fees for services I have never used. Even when I asked him, what they would charge me if I decided UFC does not work for me. He again proceeded to explain that I will not be charge for anything since it is not a contract. Within the first week of my membership I hurt my wrist in the punching bags and decided no to continue with UFC because the work out was way to intense for me and none of the workers never even mentioned anything about how intense their workout routines can be. So After I hurt my wrist the first week of September I stop going even though I paid for the whole month and I never heard from them, they never even send me a curtesy e-mail to ask me why I stop coming to their gym. When I never heard from them, to my knowledge that membership is cancel since it was never a contract. Now fast-forward in mid October their collection agency stat calling me and when I ask them why they are calling, the lady on the phone informed me that they will keep calling to collect the money that I owed UFC gym. I have never had a contract with them and I stop going After I paid them for the full month of September. So I called the gym and spoke with Chris at first and said that I owed them for the month of October a so when I tried to dispute it with him he told me that will no go through this and had the manager on the phone. And the manager was very rude as well and told me that I sign the contract so therefore I owed them for the month of October, I told him that he can not charge me for services I have never used to which he replied that I sign the contact so I owed them $90 for the month of October and I told him that I will call and file a complain and he informed me that he doesn't care who I call and I can call who ever I want to complain about it but I still have to pay them that $90. Not only he was rude and talking over me, I come to the conclusion that they are running a scam because they do not tell the truth up front because people like me would not fall into their trap and sign up for something like that.Desired Settlement: I do not owed them for services that I have never used and I would like for the to correct that credit report and tell the truth up front and stop running that scam. I do not want their creditors calling me and harassing me for the $90 that I don't owe them.

Review: When I started going to this UFC Gym, I was on a month-to-month payment plan paying a premium of $99 per month to avoid any contractual obligation. I knew there was a strong chance I would be moving for work (which did happen) a** I did not want to have any contractual obligation to a gym. [redacted] the staff member who I spoke to, said I did not need to sign a contract a** I would not be charged additional fees if I moved out of area or decided to stop going to the gym. When I moved out of area a** stopped going to the gym, I started receiving calls from a collections agency referencing my "gym membership". When I called UFC to follow up, a staff member informed me that I had a cancellation fee since I canceled my contract. I spoke to the manager at UFC Stamford, [redacted] she said that even though UFC does not have a signed contract for my account on file, I was obligated to pay an additional month's fee for the month of August ($99) a** a cancellation fee ($50). I did not use the facilities at UFC gym during the month of August a** as such, I do not believe I should pay for services I did not use.Desired Settlement: I would appreciate a refund of $149 for the fees I was charged.

Review: I am trying to cancel my membership agreement in the UFCGYM in [redacted], Washington, DC. With General manager of the gym, Daniel C[redacted], I made an agreement when I first came to the gym at the beginning of February 2014 that he would cancel my membership account after I leave the country at the end of May 2014. I came in USA only for four months and since my first meeting with the GM in February 2014, he knew, that I was planning to attend the training sessions only for this period (February, March, April, May), as I have already booked my return plane ticket for the end of May, when I moved back to Europe. He also agreed on canceling my membership after this period. All four months I paid my membership fee on time, at the beginning of each month, as agreed on the first day. I paid in cash and I didn't have any problems while attending classes in the gym so I thought that everything is fine with my payment. Now I found out that he didn't put in computer system my payment for May (he probably put the money in his own pocket), so he is trying to rip me off and make me pay again for the May. He also didnt cancel the agreement by now even thought I did everything that was necessary. Furthermore I sent to the gym many emails in last three months, but I didnt get any response. My friend and me also tried to call them, but they were hanging up the phone. They told me that I should talk with the director of operations, Saundra D[redacted], but she is also ignoring me. I believe that the gym is hiding something and I am sure (after reading different forums and complains from ex ufcgym members and the news about the civil lawsuit that was filed by the district attorney in [redacted], CA - http://www.[redacted].pdf) there must be a pattern of this type of activity in US gym community, which must not remain unpunished. They are regularly ignoring the gym members who want to cancel their membership agreement.Desired Settlement: Cancellation of membership agreement.

Review: I completed a cancellation form January 9, 2014 after being injured in a car accident. I submitted all required medical documents and final payment. I was contacted in March by [redacted] who claimed I owed termination fees with the gym. I disputed these fees with Dan, the club owner and [redacted]. I was told that there was a $75 balance that needed to be paid. I paid the balance March 2014. [redacted] called me again in April, May and June 2014. Each time I spoke to Dan and the collection company to clear the debt. I was just recently called on 7/7/14 by [redacted] at [redacted] who says that she was unable to clear the debt for $75 and I would have to pay an additional $157.

I've placed several calls to the gym and Dan in an attempt to clear the debt. Each time I was assured that it was an error that would be corrected. Now the collection agency is threatening to ruin my credit for a debt I do not owe.Desired Settlement: Clear my balance with the collection agency and remove any derogatory credit information from the credit bureaus.

Review: LA Boxing had me sign a year gym membership. I paid the gym membership for the year. I have since moved from that neighborhood and do not frequent the gym. On Oct. 1st unbeknownst to me they placed my account on automatic renewal. I do not want to renew and had completed my year commitment. At this point the gym is now trying to charge a credit card that is no longer active (due to fraud) and charging me late fees. I have called and emailed the general manager telling him I have cancelled the account.

I spoke with the LA Boxing's parent company. They told me I will be sent to a collection agency after 90 days. I feel like I have been coerced into this agreement. And, because of lack of response from the organization, LA Boxing Georgetown, am unable to resolve the conflict.Desired Settlement: LA Boxing Georgetown needs to cancel my account and clear October's charges.
