Union Cab of Madison Cooperative

I have depended on Union Cab for my back-up transportation (when the bus and my bike won't do it) for over the last two years. The drivers are, for the most part, professional and happy. The phone staff has generally oscillated from perfunctory to wonderful, but always helpful and capable. Despite the occasional problems (mostly the result of traffic or weather), I have not found a more capable and professional cab company anywhere (and I travel 3 or more times a year). I would recommend them to other passengers (for service) and to other cab companies (as a model).

We called Union Cab nearly 24 hours prior to needing them to schedule a ride. We called this company specifically because they have a wheelchair ramp-equipped cab. The cab was ordered for 8 am on a weekday for a northwest Madison address. We called the company after the cab was 10 minutes late and were told the driver had run into heavy traffic and it would be another 15 minutes. I asked whether or not traffic had been taken into account when the company planned its runs. I was told that they had to adhere "to the rules of God and man." We waited, my husband in his wheelchair next to the curb, for the 15 minutes. No cab. We loaded my husband into our own car and left as the cab was approaching our home, about 40 minutes late. There is simply no excuse for this total lack of planning and complete lack of service. We will never use this company, of course, definitely warn anyone else who might need a cab to find another provider.
