Wekiva Island

Wekiva Island is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our guests. Our riverside destination operates under a development order from Seminole County and restrictions imposed by our insurance company. We work hard to make sure guest rules and regulations are posted and communicated.

Although our rules specifically mention that dogs are not allowed on the Island, we strictly adhere to the rules provided by the ADA with respect to service animals. On July 30, we did ask a guest to leave due to what management on site thought was inappropriate service animal activity. Ownership and management reviewed the situation and communicated with the guest that we would be willing to give a full refund for all costs incurred at Wekiva Island. At that time, the guest told our owner representative that she only needed a refund for the canoe rental. That refund was processed immediately. Subsequent to that, the remainder of this guest's credit card expenses were refunded.

There has been an internal review of the visit and the actions taken in this situation. Our staff has been updated on how we should engage owners with peculiar service animal activities and what our communications procedures should be in the future. We strive for 100% guest satisfaction. We regret not meeting that standard in this instance.
