Hi [redacted],Thank you very much. The problem we have with Wheaton was solved. Thanks,[redacted]

We are pleased to respond to recent correspondence from [redacted].It was always our intent to service [redacted]'s deck when some of the initial coating did not properly adhere.  We sent a manager to inspect [redacted]'s deck, agreed with him that the deck needed re-coating.  The...

work was scheduled and completed on assessment and scheduled the work was done in late August.  We have signed completion documents from [redacted] acknowledging that the work was done to his satisfaction.  We hope [redacted] enjoys his rejuvenated deck!Sincerely,Jack W[redacted] President

Dear [redacted]:This is to inform you that my complaint with Wheaton Door has been resolved.  The president of the company called me at home and, after discussion, agreed to send me a check.Thank you for all your assistance.[redacted]

Rather than continue going back and forth, we will state the most pertinent facts. We attempted to address [redacted]'s concerns by going back to her property on several occasions. We did repairs as requested.  After the repairs were done, we were under the impression that she was satisfied. The first we learned of her continued "dissatisfaction" was her Revdex.com complaint. We immediately attempted to contact [redacted] to set up a time to inspect and determine what if any problems still needed to be addressed. We called on December 16th and when [redacted] answered, she said she was on the line and would have to call us back.   She never did. We called again on December 17th and left a message.  Again, she did not call back. I personally got involved in early January.  I called and left a message on January 6th.  She did not call back.  I called again on January 7th and left another message this time stating that if I did not hear from her, I will assume the matter has been resolved.   To this day I have still not heard anything. We cannot resolve a problem if [redacted] does not call us back or allow us to inspect her property.  Again, we remain ready to assist but it takes both parties to cooperate.  Sincerely,  Jack W[redacted]

Wheaton Door & Window is pleased to respond to Mr. W[redacted]'s complaint regarding a misrepresentation regarding our warranty.
I personally spoke to Mr. W[redacted] and investigated his concern.  I discovered that our salesman had indeed misquoted our warranty and I apologized profusely....

The salesman in question was wrong and he was reprimanded.
I should point out that warranty information about all of our products are located on our webpage and also on our written contracts.
Since Mr. W[redacted] did not purchase anything, he did not have the opportunity to see the written language.  Had he seen it, he would have learned that our warranty is 1 year on labor and 10 years on product.  This is obviously very different than 25 years labor and material.
After I explained the mistake, Mr. W[redacted] seemed satisfied.  In fact, he subsequently emailed and asked if I would send out one of my managers to re-quote the price to re-do his deck which I did.  The meeting was quite cordial, as I understand it.  Mr. W[redacted], who is retired, told our salesman that he is going to do the work on the deck himself but he thanked us for our time.
I consider the matter resolved at this point.
Sincerely,
Jack W[redacted]

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
My contract specifically indicated that the cost of the replacement wood would be determined in feet, not square feet.  For someone who has been in the roofing business for 70 years, there is no reason why the contract would not be specific.  The manager seems to think I am responsible for knowledge of roofing business practices, but that's why I contracted with him   The non-English speaking workers were the ones who put the metal piece on the rake board and on the roof shingle.  When Bill came to my house to check the skylight leak on 10/10/16, I asked him to look at the metal pieces.  There was also one piece of metal on the roof which he covered with something black.  He said he had no knowledge why the non-English speaking workers would put those metal pieces on the shingles and rake.   I paid for the roof replacement, and Wheaton Door and Window Company did not honor the contract terms, and did not respond in a positive way to my concerns until I contacted the Revdex.com.   I will not withdraw my complaint because I have not been made whole.

We researched [redacted]'s name and number against our database and could not find him listed.  However, based on his Revdex.com correspondence, we have programmed our dialing systems to reject this number going forward.  We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused.  Sincerely, Jack W[redacted]PresidentWheaton Door & Window

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
From Revdex.com: Response from Wheaton Door to My December 3, 2014 Filed ComplaintBelow is a copy of the response from Wheaton Door (WD).  My red numbers  correspond to the comments following WD letter.Wheaton Door and Window is pleased to respond to the above-referenced customer, [redacted](1). [redacted] (1) had her roof replaced in August of 2013.  [redacted] called several months later(2) and indicated that she had noticed a leak(3)around her skylight(4).We followed up with site visits on more than one occasion and could not initially determine the cause of the leak(3).  Eventually, we did identify the problem as a gap in a piece of flashing(5).By that point, there had been some damage(6) to some interior surfaces(7).  We agreed to fix the damage and paint the walls with paint [redacted](1) supplied(8). Our understanding(9) was that the problems were resolved but then she notified us that she was still not happy and wanted us to return.  We have since attempted to contact [redacted](1) on at least four occasions(10), leaving messages each time on December 16, December 16, January 6 and January 7 but have not heard back.  Our last message was that if we did not hear from her we will assume the matter has been taken care of(11).   We certainly have no problems backing up our work(12) and would be happy to work with [redacted](1) on any outstanding issues, once we have an opportunity to inspect(13). Sincerely, Jack W[redacted]PresidentWheaton Door & Window 1  My name is spelled with 2 ‘r’s – Tyrrell2  Early October 2013 – 1-1/2 months, after 1st heavy rains fell.3  Not ‘noticed a leak’ – during repeated rains – took action to catch streams of running water from 3 skylights into buckets, throughout rest of 2013 & 2014. 4  Not ‘a skylight’ – 3 skylights.5  Not a ‘gap’ – flashing incorrectly installed around chimney, masonry caulking had not been used.6 Not ‘some damage’ – major damage: crumbling ceiling drywall around 3 skylights, water-soaked ceiling insulation.7  Not ‘some interior surfaces’ – entire ceiling crumbling, wet carpeting, wet sofa.8  Paint was sloppily applied & in areas, not even applied.9  No basis to think this - your worker, Carlos L[redacted] knew problems were not resolved. In addition, remaining 2 skylights, NOT re-flashed have started leaking.10 WD calls only subsequent to compliant filed with Revdex.com & after >15 calls & emails to Gen. Mgr. David F[redacted] & Carlos L[redacted] throughout 2013 & 2014 with no response.11 Erroneous assumptions. 12  I’ve lost trust completely in WD.  Everything that was done is an unacceptable business practice.13 Dates & times will be provided to Mr. F[redacted] via Montgomery Co. Office of Consumer Protection.Photos taken throughout 2013 and 2014 document all points of my complaint.  Mr. F[redacted] and Carlos L[redacted] received them at the time of the various periods of ‘destruction’.

We are scheduled to complete service Sat 7/5/14.  The customer is aware of this date.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to recent
correspondence from [redacted].
[redacted] signed a contract for a deck resurfacing project in the
amount of $4,380 for which he put down a deposit of $200 and financed the
remainder through [redacted] Bank.
[redacted]...

[redacted] makes a number of claims in his letter to the Revdex.com, most of
which are either outright falsehoods or intentional misrepresentations.
First, the product we used on [redacted]’s deck is manufactured by [redacted].  It is a contractor-grade product and is used
primarily by deck professionals.  It is
sold by [redacted], which supplies contractors nationwide.  To claim that we “misrepresented the product”
is absurd.  Can someone walk into [redacted] and buy the product?
Absolutely. Does that mean it is not “contractor
grade?”  Of course not.
Second, no one would ever claim that refinishing a 15-20 year-old deck
would ever make a deck look “brand new.”
That is not our claim and that is not what Mr. P[redacted], our salesperson,
told [redacted].   [redacted] would have you believe that he wrote a contract based upon
his belief that his deck would look exactly the same as a brand new deck when
we were done.   While our refinishing
definitely restores a deck to far better condition than when we started, it no
more possible to make an old deck look the same as it did the day it was built
than it is possible to give a face-lift to a 60-year-old woman and expect her
to look like she did when she was in high school.  Any reasonable
person would have reasonable
expectations, and I might add that we have thousands of customers who have
been very satisfied by similar work.   However, [redacted] is not a reasonable person.
Third, we inspected [redacted]’s deck after our work was done and
found a few minor issues that we were willing to address immediately and at no
charge.  [redacted] was instead
belligerent, made racist comments about our installer, and told us he would see
us in court.
We believe [redacted] planned from the start to get a free job and
that everything else is just his attempt to cover his tracks.  A wise person once said that some customers
are not worth having as customers and we would wholeheartedly endorse this view
with respect to [redacted].
Congratulations, [redacted] … you got exactly what you wanted – a free
deck resurfacing job!  We are not charging your [redacted] account and you are free to find another contractor to rip off.
We’re moving on so we can work with honorable customers with honorable
intentions.
Sincerely,
Jack W[redacted]

June 28, 2017Mr. [redacted]Revdex.com1411 K Street, NW  10th FloorWashington DC  20005RE:  [redacted]  [redacted]Dear Mr. [redacted]:We are pleased to respond to your recent inquiry on behalf of [redacted] of Baltimore, MD.Mr. [redacted] purchased a deck sealing and staining...

service from us on April 20, 2017.The contract required us to do our standard service , but because Mr. [redacted]’s deck was a newly built, we did not sand. Our standard service includes priming and applying two coats of our patented sealers to deck boards and rails.  We have done thousands of decks and we have NEVER applied a coating to the underside of a deck, as Mr. [redacted] implies we should have done in his case. First, the underside of a deck is not subject to the same harsh conditions as the topside, which is subject to constant UV exposure.  Second, sealing the underside of a deck is not advisable because doing so would trap moisture in the wood, instead of allowing it to drain naturally with the help of gravity and evaporation. No reasonable person would expect the underside of a deck to be stained and sealed.  Moreover, Mr. [redacted] did not pay for this service.  We charged him to paint the visible deck surface and rails as measured.  Painting the underside would have required us to double the amount we charged him.Thank you for your inquiry. Sincerely, David F

Review: I purchased a $3000.00 steel entry door (and installation) from Wheaton Doors and Windows early 2012. On December 25th 2013, my home was broken into via that steel door. There is no damage to the door however, it is being noted that the door was poorly installed and only hanging onto a few nails installed into drywall and molding making it very easy for someone to push the door in. The company takes no fault/no responsibility despite subpar/insufficient materials/process to secure the door.

My family's safety and well being have been compromised and the least the company should do is reinstall the door utilizing the proper standard of equipment installation.Desired Settlement: I would like the door properly reinstalled to better secure my home.

Business

Response:

Wheaton Door & Window is pleased to respond to the

recent correspondence from **. [redacted].

**. [redacted] purchased an entry door from us on December 2,

2011 and the door was installed in February of 2012.

In late December 2013, we responded to a call from **.

[redacted] indicating that she had a recent burglary and someone broke through her

front door.

We sent one of our technicians, [redacted], to inspect the

door. When **. [redacted] looked at the

door, it was obvious that someone had used extreme force to break through the

entry door. There was no damage to the

outside of the door (an indication of how strong the door was made) but on the

inside, the deadbolt had broken through the wood door jamb. Again, this was blunt force from a burglary

and is not covered under a manufacturer's warranty or our labor warranty.

We attempted to explain to **. [redacted] that this was an

insurance matter and that she should report the break-in to her insurance

company. At this point, **. [redacted]

became quite verbally abusive and asked us to leave and **. [redacted] complied.

It is our suspicion that when **. [redacted] originally

contacted her insurance company, she was likely told that she would need to pay

a significant deductible as part of her insurance policy. Perhaps because she did not want to pay the

deductible, she then tried to see if Wheaton Door & Window would take

responsibility for the damage even though we did nothing wrong. It was not improper installation that caused

her door to fail, it was blunt force from whomever broke into her home.

At this point, we would be happy to replace **. [redacted]'s

door jamb and reinstall her door for the usual labor and material charges. Otherwise, we consider the matter closed.

Sincerely,

President

Review: This firm installed a sliding glass door from my house to my deck. They neglected to install flashing under the door which caused water to leak into the wall and rot the beam. My deck was on the verge of falling due to this sub-standard job.Desired Settlement: I expect a partial refund to compensate me for having to get another contractor to repair the job they botched.

Business

Response:

July 8, 2014Dear [redacted]:Wheaton Door and Window installed a sliding glass door on 11/3/2011 at the home of [redacted] located at [redacted] in [redacted], Maryland. The job was installed using the appropriate materials and according to existing industry building standards. [redacted] paid the bill upon completion without complaint. On 3/25/2014, [redacted] contacted our office and spoke to us regarding a support beam on his deck that had rotted, causing his deck to become unstable. [redacted] went on to suggest that somehow the installation of our door was responsible for the rot. This is absurd.First, a door attached to a house bears no structural relationship to a deck, which according to [redacted] County building code, must be free- standing and supported by post-to-beam construction. The code does not allow a deck to be attached to a home via a ledger board, which is how [redacted]’s deck was constructed.Notwithstanding the above, [redacted] suggests that because the door was not “flashed” at the bottom, excessive moisture caused his beam to rot prematurely. This is also not true. If the sliding patio door had been installed improperly and leaked for three years, there would have been extensive interior damage but there was none in this case. What really happened is that [redacted] had a poorly constructed deck in violation of building codes which over time deteriorated. Our patio door installation had nothing to do with the problem.Sincerely,Jack WPresident

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

July 10, 2014Dear [redacted]:I am responding to the letter from Jack W[redacted], President of Wheaton Door and Window.Mr. W[redacted] gets the facts wrong in his letter. He states that I contacted his office and spoke to them regarding a problem I had with the work his firm performed. On the date in question (3/25/14), one of Wheaton Door’s sales agents contacted me to solicit more business. I said I had a problem with the previous job and asked that someone call me. No one ever called. I sent Mr. W[redacted] a certified letter on January 13, 2014 regarding the problem. He never responded. On two other occasions I left messages for Mr. W[redacted] regarding this issue. He never responded. Mr. W[redacted] States that my deck was poorly constructed in violation of building codes. How would he know this when he never saw my deck? My deck was installed to code and was inspected by [redacted] County and by a private inspector I hired. The contractor who corrected the problem Wheaton Door caused stated that the lack of flashing caused my problem and he took numerous pictures to illustrate this. Mr. W[redacted] never inspected the work his staff performed, did not ask to see the pictures, did not respond to numerous attempts on my part to reach him, and purports to be informed about the construction of my house and deck without ever seeing it. Additionally, he never addressed why his workers failed to install flashing under the door, Mr. W[redacted] never addresses why I had leaks under my door after Mr. F[redacted], his employee, insisted I would not. If Mr. W[redacted] is so sure that poor construction caused my problem why di staff mention this when they performed the work? He only responds now because of Revdex.com involvement and he still makes statements that have no basis in fact.It is frost telling that he completely ignored toy many efforts to address this issue with him. His letter is an attempt to avoid responsibility and shift blame.Sincerely Yours

Business

Response:

We have a completely different view of [redacted]’s situation.

[redacted] is trying to blame us for something we had nothing to do

with.

We installed a door for [redacted] in 2011.

He had no complaints at the time and paid his bill in a timely manner.

We did not hear from [redacted] for 3 years.

Three years later, [redacted] has rotted wood on his deck replaced and

claims it was the door that was the source of the problem. Pressure-treated decks do not rot in 3

years time and they certainly do not rot because of a door that is not even

attached to the deck.

[redacted] claims to have tried to contact me personally on this

matter on numerous occasions yet I have never received a phone call from Mr.

Goddard nor any written correspondence.

In fact, it appears that the only reason

[redacted] is raising the issue is because we contacted him.

Had [redacted] contacted me first,

instead of the Revdex.com, we would have been happy to do a service call and assure

him the door had been properly installed.

We would still be happy to inspect it.

However, it is not plausible that an entry door

was responsible for his rotted deck.

In this matter, we must agree to disagree.

Sincerely,

Jack W[redacted]

Review: March 31, 2014 I met with a sales rep regarding an indoor door replacement; I signed a contract which states job would be complete in 30days. I have made numerous phone calls, never returned despite leaving messages, to the company asking for an installation date. Today, June 2, 2014, I was again told they would call me back with an installation date...no phone call. I left a message for the manager to call me...no phone call. I have paid 1/3 of the project cost.
