I had credit card fraud on or around 8/21. The credit card company identified the fraud and cancelled my credit card and reissued the card. I called Wow Fitness on 8/25 to explain the them the issue and the person in the *** shop told me just bring the new card down when I get it. I actually had this issue 2 years ago and was not proactive and got an extra charge from WOW, so I was proactive this time.

I went in on 8/27, I received my new card, activated it and wen to WOW that morning. The person at the front desk took the new card information and told me I was all set. On 8/13 I received a notice from WOW billing/collection company that I did not pay my $10 monthly fee and also charged me 100% service charge of $10.

The owner told me on 8/14 @ 2:45p after 2 voicemails, 2 emails and a text that its not 'his problem' and the 'girl at the front desk has no idea what she is talking about'. Had I known the credit card was NOT processed on 7/30 or 8/1 when I gave the new number I would have paid at the time I was there.

I have been a member of this gym since December of 2018. In addition to the monthly membership, the facility also charges an annual fee of $124.43. While I was able to use the facility for the months of January, February, and part of March of this year, I was no longer able to due to the COVID-19 shutdown. However, I was still billed for the annual membership fee in April. They also began billing my account on July 2nd after requesting for my membership to be canceled before this date. I sent a certified letter asking to not only cancel my membership, but also partially refund me for the portion of the annual membership fee that I payed for in April when the facility was not open. Every time I follow up with this request, they tell me that they cannot refund any portion of the fee. I have not been back at the gym since mid-March and do not feel as though I should have been billed for an annual fee when the gym was not open and my membership was cancelled.

I have been going back-and-forth with this business for over a month to get a refund for all of my unused personal training sessions. The gym abruptly closed the personal training division and fired all the personal trainers and as a result, I could not use any of my sessions. The sessions were purchased for me as a gift by my roommate whom I live with. The gym is refusing to refund me because the credit card used to purchase the sessions is not personally in my name. This is even though he and I are both on the same gym membership account and I’ve explained this to them Repeatedly. I have offered to provide alternate credit cards to allow them to issue me the refund (credit card used for original $1276.00 purchase was lost) so they cannot credit that one- And even offered to have them write me (or the person who bought me the sessions) a check which they have declined to do. They are now avoiding my phone calls and the owner of the gym refuses to interact with me

WOW in *** is permanently closed. I was being billed during the closing due to Covid 19. I have contacted numerous WOW gyms and no one will help me because WOW *** is/was privately owned and not part of their franchise. I cannot get a refund on my money because they are closed. I was billed while they were closed.

I had a credit card that was compromised so I had it canceled. When I received the new card, I applied it to all my automatic withdrawals. One of these was WOW Fitness. I did this before the payment was due. None of my others were a problem expect for this one. They tried taking it from the compromised card. I went in person and explained the situation and the employee behind the counter swiped my card and told me I was all set. Then I received a letter telling me my payment was late & I now have a $10 service fee. I have called and emailed multiple times and sent the letter from my bank as the website requested proving that my card was Compromised. From all the emails & phone call, I only received one response back asking what is the name associated with the account. I have given them plenty of notice and I did what was required I paid the gym membership. I am not paying the late fee

The issue has been resolved with the business.

I work at *** and have/had a gym membership at a discounted rate thru the ***, with automatic deductions. I have $7.50 taken out per pay period, so a minimum of $15 a month, more if there are three pay periods in one month. During the COVID crisis from 3/16/20-6/17/20, WOW claims that they stopped charging members their fees, aside from the annual fee and enhancement fees (both of which we do not get charged through the ***). I just returned from maternity leave and called HR to see why I was still having the deductions taken out if they were not charging members. HR responded that WOW never contacted them to inform them that they were no longer charging during that time, so the deductions were still taken and sent to WOW. He stated that I needed to call WOW myself to get my money back. I have multiple co-workers who are in the same boat, some paying anywhere from $5 to $15 a month. When we contacted WOW in ***n and spoke to Steve A on 7/22/20, he stated that yes they had indeed stopped charging, but that "it's too much work to go back and refund the money" and "you do not pay enough" to justify a refund. On 7/23/20 I called ***n WOW multiple times, but there was no answer. They are able to see when it is a *** phone number. I finally got in touch with Alan Cardona, manager at the West Hartford WOW. Alan stated that he has heard this has been a problem for others, and that I would have a really hard time getting my money back, but it could be done, and the best way was by filing a Revdex.com complaint as Steve was unwilling to help. Alan said this was unacceptable what was being done and how we were spoken to, and that my membership had actually EXPIRED on 5/5/20, and yet I was STILL having deductions taken out. He said I was not the only one. I have tried finding a corporate phone number but cannot, and no one at WOW even knows how to reach corporate. I have emailed them with the listed email address on their website, but Alan said that address is getting flooded and I would not get a response for a very long time.

I have tried to cancel my work out world membership since July 13th by physically going there to verbally tell them I wanted to cancel. first person told me I would get an email no email came. Called again, she said to call back the manager, the email was sent. Called manager back on Thursday the 16th and he said there was a "backlog" and he had to wait for corporate to get my cancellation email, to call back on Monday the 20th. Called back at the time he said, no one ever picked up tried multiple times. Called again today the 22nd, the assistant manager said he never got my cancellation, he put me through to the district manager who said I owe money and they can't cancel. this is automatic withdrawl there was no money owed, I cancelled prior to the 15th when the money would be taken out of my account he told me I had to pay the money anyway since it was a 30day, and I said that was fine, but he said then they would cancel, asked repeatedly for an email confirmation to give to my insurance and they keep refusing, so it is still not cancelled and they are still taking money..
Due to the corona virus I do not want to go to the gym, I cannot wear a mask when I work out, all classes that I pay for are cancelled and I gave my reasons.

The gym reopened briefly and was closed on June 17 for failing to meet state Covid 19 requirements.
In order to cancel a membership contract, the customer must submit a certified letter to the gym where he or she joined. In my case this would be *** I asked the local post office whether the gym was receiving mail. Apparently not as there is a stack of certified letters at the post office and no one from WOW has picked them up.
An already broken and deceptive cancellation process will be even worse as a result of the pandemic. Customers have an absolute right to end membership given current conditions. I should not be forced to pay a monthly fee that I cannot safely use or even enter if overcrowded so a gym owner can continue living in a luxury home in a wealthy suburb.

The worst company ever. They decide to sent my account to a collection agency in a middle of this pandemic, placing greed before the well being of their customers. It is inconceivable and disgusting. I signed a contract on 12/2019 for one year duration, and as I do understand the fact that you have to send a letter (certified) to cancel your membership, I don't understand why you have to cancel a membership when it is clearly stated that the duration of such contract is one year. But hey, this is their greedy tactic. Also, I lost the credit card that my account at the Gym was under, and I reported it to my bank; however, the bank is closed due to the pandemic and WoW still trying to get the money out of my bank account causing my bank to charge me fees just for them trying to complete a transaction that is not going to go through as the bank has not been able to make a new card for me. And yes, my bank fees are right now up the roof because of this greedy, shady company. Again, if I signed a contract for a year, I should not have to send a letter of cancellation. They should do it automatically. Also, if they are going to be that greedy, and request a certified letter, they should also allow you to do it through email, but no, that is another greedy tactic to get more money from customers. I personally will be filling a complaint with CT's district attorney about this. A year contract is a year contract and it shouldn't be subjected to other actions as a certified letter to cancel.

I am being charged after all the gym was closed. I cannot cancel because no one is there.
They charged me

I have tried to reach the company via phone and email with no response to my request. We were billed the yearly Maintenance fee for services that are not being rendered. I *** we haven't even been able to use the facility in the last 60 days and at this point wont for the next 3 months. I want a refund of this fee in addition I want an immediate cancel of our membership. I will not be sending a certified mail to them to cancel.

I sent a certified letter to cancel my membership when I realized that businesses would be shutting down due to covid. As stated in WOWs cancellation agreement, I would only have been charged the service fee if I cancelled in the month that it was due. I cancelled in early March and my dues were not expected until April. I was then charged on April 14th over $140 for maintenance fees.

I have made multiple attempts to cancel my membership to WOW using the directions they provided online. I sent a certified letter to the gym outlining my intent to cancel. I have followed the tracking number and they’ve made multiple attempts to deliver. Besides this I have called, emailed and sent a *** to try and touch base with someone and no one responds.

Dirty, poor customer service, broken equipment, stained worn carpeting, bathroom and lockers are disgusting. Class instructors are rude and oblivious of other members. Staff is useless as dirty paper towels litter the floor due to overflowing garbage cans. In an environment that is ripe for viruses and under the current situation most cleaning spray bottles are empty of filled with water only and the bathrooms frequently are out of soap. Owners do not reinvest in their business and just.money grab the monthly fees and annual membership.
Former.member for almost 10 years but enough is enough.

I tried to cancel many times and got the run around (no manager available, customer service calls hangups or unhelpful). They recently charged me almost 80 dollars for a yearly fee when I have been struggling to cancel for over 2 months. I'm having financial difficulties and wanted to cancel and return when I had the funds. If I do not receive that 80 dollars back, I will never return and advise others to do the same. This is absolutely wrong and I need this to be resolved immediately!

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

As I read the other complaints it is clear that this company operates in an unscrupulous manner. They intentionally make the cancellation process cumbersome. Additionally they do not confirm cancellation of your membership even after going through this process via certified letter. There is no one available to actually speak to via phone or in person to resolve anything and they are quick to send you to collection for a charge that should never have been made. There are many options out there for gyms. I would suggest anyone reading this to consider that before entering in to anything here.

WOW! Work Out World Response • Oct 30, 2019

Please check with *** - We think he's a member of another gym in . We have only 4 locations in ***

Please confirm,

George

Wow fitness is notoriously known for having a horrible cancelation policy. I was charged an extra 40$ this month without my consent in the midst of trying to cancel my membership. That is not what I agreed to when I signed up- I agreed to pay 10$ monthly and they frequently take money from me. I am a college student, I do not have money to throw away to giant corporations. They failed to let me know that they would charge my card that amount and they are impossible to deal with. They do not cancel your membership when you ask.

WOW! Work Out World Response • Oct 16, 2019

signed a Membership Contract with WOW *** on 4/11/2016. She specifically initialed :

1. That a Certified Letter is required to cancel her membership

2. That a $39.00 plus tax Enhancement Fee would be charged Annually and is charged to every member.

*** payed the Enhancement Fee in 2016, 2017 & 2018.

Thank you,

George

Deceptive advertisement, unqualified staff with no clue and the owner cannot be relied up... apologized and made promises that were not kept.

Deceptive advertising. I signed my family up for the 20 dollar membership. I saw their what they advertised online and asked when I visited. Seemed like a standard gym. If you cancel you pay the balance of what you would have paid. Typical annoying, but industry standard. I looked at my CC today and saw a charge for 90 dollars for the third month. I got this in response "
George K to Stephen, me
You were billed for 2 annual enhancement fees as per your contracts,
George
--
George K WOWFitness.org"
Don't recall this being mentioned when I signed up. It is a Comcast billing strategy to insert language into the contract that says you can just charge more money when they feel like it. I can tell you they didn't buy anything new. DON"T START A MEMBERSHIP HERE. VERY SHADY.

I wish WOW to drop the over $80 charge against me. I have filed my cancelation pr their ridiculous requirement of a Ceritifed letter. I can sign up in person, but to cancel, one must use a certified letter. If there is any dispute, they hide behind an email and no personal contact. The process they have causes diiferernt people to be charged different amounts based on shear coincidence based on they joined. I find the process unfair as I am being assessed an equipment upgrade fee and I am not using the equipment. If I had joined or canceled in a different month, this fee would not be assessed as I leave. I find the process deceptive and their idea of customer service/asssitance, simply unacceptable. The manager of the *** location, Alan, says he’s been there 3 years and agreed that I have no used the equipment or caused it to be worn down and am not sure why I am made to pay a second annual fee. I would gladly accept a one month additional charge, one they guarantee themselves as a result of their fine print, but the annual fee is not fair. If the fee is not assessed to all canceling, I find the charge highly unfair and deceptive. Again, not possible to speak with anyone on the cancellation side. But, they are more than happy to sign you up and not explain the cancellation process or deceptive charges. I attempted to act resonably and all I got in return was a copy of their deceptive/intentionally confusing and inconsistently charging policy.

WOW! Work Out World Response • Apr 17, 2019

The Annual Enhancement Fee is billed every year to each member and is a contractual requirement. It is spelled out on the membership contract that requires the member initial the timing of the billing of the Fee in addition to the signing of the contract.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: The business has a different charge for each month you may cancel. I am merely asking that the business be required to explain why the need to have 30 days from an unknown date of rcceiveing a certified letter in order to cancel a membership. Regardless of their unfair contractual language, I do not see the need for 30 days. Again, this practice is simply an entrapment for another monthly charge just because that’s their style. No other reasonable explanation. As for those who happen to cancel inside of 30 days of the annual upgrade, I do not use the gym, do not cause equipment to be run down or used. The 30 day extension is merely a scam that works well on behalf of the business, not the consumer. Instead of hiding behind unfair level language and cancelation practice that was not clearly explained, why the 30 days of extended charges? Why can’t one come in and cancel in the same building where I am allowed to join in person? Again, the Revdex.com needs to look into the scam of how the joining and canceling procedure are so derastically different, intentionally difficult to cancel, and afford WOW the ability milk additional charges out of a client that paid for one full year in earnest.

Sincerely,***

We have addressed the Enhancement Fee as an accepted contractual obligation when the contract is signed and initialed.

The requirement of a Certified Letter is almost a standard in our industry because it protects the members and the gyms from future problems because it requires signatures of the sender and the

recipient with specifics of termination dates and details.

Our Cancellation Policy is available on our website and described in detail and in addition there are further explanations for our members in our Frequently Asked Questions sections. The Cancellation Policy is

designed to accommodate our billing company's processing time of 30 days for any transaction.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Again, regardless of the response from WOW. Their policy is simply one that takes advantage of the client and of course they are not able to be contacted any other way than a ***. As previously stated, hiding behind contractual language that is not explained and prob backed up by language drafted up by attorneys steeped in a legal system that favors the bigger businesses is the way it works today. As long as George can sleep well at night, I suppose eh Revdex.com is not interested in protecting the consumer from sneaky and deceptive tactics like those employed by WOW.

Disappointing that they cannot work with me at all in this matter. I will continue to spread the word using all means necessary about their marketing tactics. As for not being able to cancel in person, who are they protecting? Again, I sign up in person, why not cancel?

Sincerely

WOW! Work Out World Response • May 02, 2019

As we answered previously, this member signed a contract that provides the information that we require a Certified Letter that is signed by the member when sent and by us when we receive it. It is very typical in our industry and it protects both
parties from future difficulties.
Additionally, we do not appreciate the threatening, abusive language and the use of my name in a personal attack in the rejection and will be forwarding it to the appropriate agencies.

Thank you,

George
