Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns.
We first want to make sure you know that a business's decision whether or not to advertise on Yelp does not affect how the reviews on its...

listing are treated. Businesses are not punished if they don't advertise, nor are businesses awarded with preferential treatment with regards to their reviews if they do advertise. We understand there are some misconceptions about this, so we invite you to visit http://www.yelp.com/advertiser_faq and http://officialblog.yelp.com/2013/05/no-yelp-doesnt-extort-small-businesses-see-... to learn more.
You also expressed concern with the recommendation software. As you may have read, the goal of Yelp's recommendation software is to showcase more reliable content. The recommendation software establishes an objective standard against which every review can be measured. Even though it inevitably affects legitimate reviews from time to time and misses some fake ones, too, it helps protect the integrity of the site both for consumers (who will be less likely to be led astray by bogus reviews) and business owners (who will spend less time worrying about whether their competitors are writing negative reviews about them).
It's important to note that the software applies the same analysis to everyone, and that it affects both positive and negative reviews. Please also understand that the recommendation software is automated: we cannot manually override the software to recommend or not recommend a review. However, the system is not static reviews may become recommended or not recommended over time as the system continues to make decisions based on a variety of factors.

I would like my business off yelp. I don't want it o. Your website is wrong about hours of operation and a lot of other factors.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/08/18) */
Hi [redacted],
Thank you for your response.
You asked for your business to be removed from Yelp, but we actually don't remove business listing information. While some business owners might prefer to keep a lower profile, this kind of information is publicly available and its use is protected under the law. More importantly, we believe that the public benefits from sharing their experiences with local businesses.
You also wrote, "Your website is wrong about hours of operation and a lot of other factors." We've gone ahead and updated the hours on your Yelp listing to match the hours given on your business's Facebook page: http://www.yelp.com/biz/[redacted]
For future reference, you can suggest updates to the hours or other business information on your listing by selecting the "Edit Business Info" link on your Yelp listing. Please note that any changes you make will still need to be approved by our moderators.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I'm happy that they finally reevaluated the review, but I really wish that they would be much more careful in the future of what they allow on their site, that review was on the yelp site for 2 or 3 months, and I'm sure a lot of people saw it, and you can't Un see something. It could have really hurt our business.

Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for [redacted]
You expressed concern with [redacted] O's review. We understand that a negative review about an...

experience you don't recognize is very frustrating. We have taken a second look at this review but, after careful consideration, we reached the same conclusion as before and are unable to remove the review. If a review appears to reflect the reviewer's personal experiences and opinions, it is our policy to let the user stand behind his or her review. These decisions aren't always easy, but please know we looked at this review closely before reaching our decision.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/11/19) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept the response from Yelp, As others have demonstrated by creating false yelp accounts and posting false reviews of many businesses that yelp is not a reliable source for reviews as they can not guarantee that the customer or client in fact actually had the experience or even solicited the business they've reviewed.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2015/12/01) */
Hi [redacted],
Thank you for your feedback.
We don't take sides on factual disputes, so we can only therefore reiterate what we previously communicated to you: if a review appears to reflect the user's personal experience and opinions, we allow the user to stand behind their review. Removing reviews is not something we take lightly, and it is only done when it violates our Terms of Service or Content Guidelines.
It also sounds as though you don't accept our explanation of the recommendation software, but we can only stand by our previous statements. Yelp's recommendation software is an automated algorithm that attempts to weed out less reliable reviews while showcasing more reliable ones. This means that when reviews are posted to your listing, not all of them will make the cut. We acknowledge that even some legitimate reviews will not be recommended, but we still believe that the software as a whole makes our site more trustworthy and useful to consumers.
As indicated in our prior response, the recommendation software is automated to help avoid the potential for human bias inherent in individual decision-making: we cannot reverse the software's decisions, either to suppress an active review or to restore one that isn't recommended. But once again, the system is not static reviews may come and go as the recommendation software picks up new information.
We do understand the recommendation software can be frustrating at times, and your feedback is appreciated. When it comes down to it, all review sites face the same challenge: how to identify fake reviews among the many millions of legitimate reviews. It's no easy task, and there is always room for improvement. We hope to be able to continually improve on this issue.
Regards,

Generally, what we don’t tolerate on our site are serious threats and hate speech. Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for [redacted] Interior Design.
You expressed concern with some reviews that you reported, stating, "I've asked Yelp...

to remove them with no response whatsoever." It appears you received a response from Yelp on the same day you filed this complaint with the Revdex.com and, as you may recall, the reviews by [redacted] H, [redacted] H, and [redacted] P have been removed because they fall outside our Content Guidelines.
For future reference, while reporting content doesn't guarantee that it'll be removed, our team looks at every inquiry and carefully evaluates the content against our guidelines. Each case will be reviewed by our team in the order it was received. Typically, you will receive a response to your report within a few business days, but from time to time, delays can occur. If you don't believe you've received our response, please be sure to check all email and spam folders. You may also want to add [redacted]@yelp.com to your contact list.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I was never contacted other than to use some gift points to advertise my business. The problem took 5 days for any results and that was hours after I contacted the Revdex.com.
Yelp is more into sensationalism than truth. They hurt innocent people and businesses with their anything goes approach.
Yelp prefers to use unrelated reviews to a business and rants than actual customer reviews. Which in my case resulted in bullying and threats and defamation of character.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/09/08) */
Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing again.
We apologize for any delays you may have experienced, but we do want to reiterate that cases are typically reviewed by our team in the order they were received. According to our records, it looks like notifications were sent to you via email on August 21, 2015 to let you know that the reviews by [redacted] H, [redacted] H, and [redacted] P that you reported had been removed. That said, it's possible that the email notifications may have ended up in your spam folder or in another inbox tab, such as the social tab.
With regards to your concern about how our content is monitored, we allow users to post reviews and rely on the Yelp community to flag content that they believe is questionable. If a review violates our Content Guidelines (http://www.yelp.com/guidelines) or Terms of Service (http://www.yelp.com/static?country=US&p=tos), then our Support team will remove it.
Reviews on Yelp are ultimately the responsibility of each reviewer. To the extent that a review appears to reflect the personal opinion and experiences of the reviewer, we allow the reviewer to stand behind his or her review. That said, if you feel that something may violate our Content Guidelines or Terms of Service, we encourage you to let us know by reporting the content. We're happy to look at these on a per case basis.

Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing. We appreciate your feedback regarding your advertising program for [redacted] Builders.
We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your advertising campaign. To be clear, while the goal of advertising...

on Yelp is to drive more traffic to the business page, which may ultimately result in more customers, it is important to keep in mind that results are not guaranteed. When advertising with a Cost Per Click program, you are electing to pay every time a user clicks on your ad impression.
It looks like a account manager, [redacted], was in touch with you after you filed this complaint with the Revdex.com. As you may recall from your conversations with her. Your advertising program is set to terminate on November 20, 2015, and the early termination fee will be waived.
We hope you will continue to take advantage of the free features available to you on your Yelp for Business Owners Account to engage with the Yelp community. For guidance, visit https://biz.yelp.com/support/using_business_account

software. As you may have read, the goal of Yelp's recommendation software is to showcase more reliable content. The recommendation software establishes an objective standard against which every review can be measured. The software looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability, and activity on Yelp. Most of all, however, it's looking for people who are intrinsically motivated to share the wide range of rich and detailed experiences they have every day with local businesses.
It's important to note that the software applies the same analysis to everyone, and that it affects both positive and negative reviews. You asked that we "Post all of them or none of them," but please understand that the recommendation software is automated: we cannot manually override the software to recommend or not recommend a review. However, the system is not static reviews may become recommended or not recommended over time as the system continues to make decisions based on a variety of factors.
Additionally, while we understand your concerns, we want to make sure you are clear that federal law bars lawsuits against websites like Yelp for the decisions they make about which reviews to post or remove. See Carafano v. Metrosplash. com. Inc., 339 F. 3d 1119 (9th Cir. 2003); Zeran v. America Online, Inc., 129 F.3d 327 (4th Cir. 1997); Barrett v. Rosenthal, 40 Cal. 4th 33 (Cal. 2006).

With regards to your comment, "A complete stranger can write a review about a business that they have never been to and YELP will still post it and the business owner has no recourse with YELP." if you believe a review violates Yelp's Content Guidelines (http://www.yelp.com/guidelines), you can report the content by clicking the flag icon next to it. While reporting something doesn't guarantee that it'll be removed, our team looks at every inquiry and carefully evaluates the content against our guidelines. You'll need to be logged in to your account in order to view the flag icon. Finally, to address your comment, "I can't even get anyone on the phone with YELP. They don't answer, keep rerouting you," while our Yelp Support team doesn't offer phone based support, they do provide email based support through our Support Center (http://www.yelp-support.com). We've tried to include detailed answers to the questions we most frequently receive in our Support Center, but there may be situations you encounter where you'll need to contact our Support team for assistance. For these specific situations, there are articles in the Support Center that include submission forms to inquire about the issue.

Hi Cris,Thank you for writing back. While it appears you were in touch with a sales representative in August 2016, it looks like you decided not to sign up for advertising through the sales rep, and instead redeemed the $100 promotion and signed up for a self-serve program on August 31, 2016.With regards to your comment, "8/31/16 Welcome Email was sent for the purchase of Ad Campaign, Call To Action, and Slideshow & Restrict Competitor's Ads with no indication that each or any one of those services are extra," the price of these features was stated during the sign up process. We want to reiterate that you signed up for an advertising program with a $300 monthly Cost Per Click budget (or a $10 per day average) plus enhanced profile features which cost an additional $75 per month (or a $2.50 per day average), for total charges of up to $375 per month. This monthly maximum was stated in the "Welcome to Yelp Advertising: Your Ads Are Now Live!" email we sent you after you signed up for this program. You also wrote, "9/1/16 Email from [redacted] with September 2016 billing statement for the total amount due of $0.00 which you indicate $281.14 - see attached screenshot." We want to clarify that we are referring to different bills. Your advertising program is billed in arrears, which means that we typically bill on the first of the month for advertising services that were delivered in the previous month. Thus, you saw no charges on September 1, 2016, because $6.14 of your $100 promotion was applied towards the advertising services you received on August 31, 2016. We attempted to collect $281.14 starting on October 1, 2016 for the advertising services you received in September 2016. Finally, you wrote, "10/10/16 An email was sent to [redacted] by me stating that I had turned off already any promotion to not exceed the amount." Your ads were terminated on October 1, 2016. However, you are still responsible for the outstanding balance of $281.95 for the advertising services you received after the promotional credit was used until you cancelled your ads on October 1, 2016. We also want to reiterate that ads continue once the promotion is used up, and if only wanted to use your $100 promotion, you would have needed to log in and end the program once that credit was used. Regards,HelenYelp Inc.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2015/11/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the...

response from the business.)
I am pleased with Yelp's decision to remove our personal information from their website. I wish this could have happened through a phone call, however I will accept the result no matter how it comes. Thank you

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: I do not accept the response of Yelp.com for several reasons. They claim that their software shows more reliable content, however this is simply not true- one of the reasons they say it is more reliable is that they display in the recommended section reviews by more established users. I can see in my case that only 2 of the reviewers appear to be even remotely more established users and the others displayed in the recommended section clearly are not. I also don't see why someone has to be a more established user in order to have their review displayed and their opinion taken into account in my rating on your site. This is a violation of the first amendment rights of the reviewers whose reviews are hidden away in the “not recommended” section where they are not only unlikely to be found by the average person looking at reviews on Yelp but they are also classed as “not recommended” meaning they are accused or insinuated as being phony when they are not. When reviews are manipulated in this way it can hardly be regarded as free speech. Their first amendment right is further violated as their opinion is not reflected in the rating of my business which means they are not given a voice on your site. It is discrimination against some reviewers for daring to have a good opinion of my business and for not being allowed to express it in the same way as other negative reviewers on the Yelp site.
I highly doubt any of the reviews originated from the same computer, the only way I can see that would occur is if someone saw their review mysteriously go missing and decided to write another one in the hope that it would stick.
You should not be able to decide which users reviews you recommend, your computer does not know anything about any of the reviewers, just because someone placed a bunch of reviews on your site and goes on it a lot doesn't mean they are anymore real or significant than someone that goes on now and again to check out a business or write a review about a business on there because your site came up in the search results as somewhere they could write something.
You say over and again that your software “is not perfect”, well if that is the case don't use it. It simply is not fair practice. Unfortunately it will never be perfect as it just cannot be using the criteria you express here. It will only be perfect if you use a private investigator to investigate the authenticity of every reviewer which a piece of software cannot possibly and clearly does not do remotely in any way shape or form. Again even if what you say is true and made any sense (which it doesn't) there is no way that consistently only negative reviews would appear for my business and no positive reviews with such a large number of reviews hidden as “not recommended”. It is plain to see there is something very fishy about your “approach”.
The business practices of Yelp may or may not be legal at present ( they certainly should be illegal), however they are in my opinion definitely immoral.

Sincerely,[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
It is completely unfair you just pick out what reviews you will use as "recommended". My review was a "recommended" for a few days before you switched it.
Plus, this dentist asks her employees and relatives to leave positive reviews.
One positive review on there that is recommended was posted by her relative. His name is [redacted] and the owner's name is [redacted]
I reported the review and you ignore it. So don't tell me you don't take sides.
My profile has my picture, I used it through Facebook. And Im being honest about every single one of my reviews.
Sincerely,[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because the results were completely unsatisfactory, and may also be considered fraudulent.
To date I have not received a refund for the amounts paid to Yelp. If Yelp cares about its customers, it should resolve this issue, unless fraud and deception are what Yelp stands for. Sincerely,[redacted]

Hi,
Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for [redacted].
You expressed concern with a review. We assume you are referring to the review by [redacted] C, as...

you've previously flagged this review. As you may recall from the message you received from the Yelp Support team, the review has been evaluated and left up, as it was not found to be in violation of our guidelines. You stated that "Yelp failed to investigate"; however, please note that Yelp does not take sides in factual disputes. Rather, if a review appears to reflect the personal experience and opinions of the reviewer, it is our policy to allow the user to stand by his/her review.
You also noted that you were "contacted by yelp sales person two days before incident." Please be assured that there is no relationship between reviews and anything having to do with Yelp Ads or the Yelp Ads sales process. There's no amount of money a business can pay to manipulate their reviews or rating and Yelp doesn't skew things in favor of advertisers or against businesses that don't. Furthermore, members of the Yelp Sales teams cannot post Yelp reviews because of the inherent conflict of interest this would present.

Hi [redacted],Thank you for writing again. You wrote, "The range in cost per click is grossly unacceptable and is by default designed to max out the cost to my company." As noted in your contract, you signed up for a Cost-Per-Click (CPC) auction-based auto-bidding program, which means that you agreed to allow Yelp to set the bid price per click to keep you competitive in the market. It's important to keep in mind that the price will fluctuate up or down depending on competition, relevance, and other factors. However, the price you pay will always be the lowest price possible to win the click. We aim to maximize the number of clicks you get for your budget over the course of the month, and you should plan to have 100% of your budget fulfilled. For more information about how Yelp's CPC ads work, please visit: [redacted]We also want to address your comment, "not a single lead was generated from this. No contact, no opportunity to sell." While we are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your advertising program, we cannot guarantee a certain level of results. As indicated in Section VI, Yelp's Disclaimer of Warranties, of your advertising agreement, "Yelp specifically disclaims all warranties and guarantees regarding (I) the performance, quality and results of the ad programs"With regards to your comment, "The potential for a sale is reflected on your dashboard where the potential revenue is listed. This is misleading," it sounds like you are referring to the Revenue Estimate feature. The Revenue Estimate is an estimate of the amount of gross revenue resulting from Yelp user activities, based on Customer Leads, the average customer spend, visits per customer, and lead conversion rate. Customer Leads include phone calls, website clicks, and other indicators that potential customers are engaging with your business on Yelp. We've provided a range of typical values from other businesses in your category for the average customer spend, visits per customer, and lead conversion rate fields to get you started, but these fields are customizable so you can change the information to reflect your business. That said, it's important to keep in mind that this is an estimate.Additionally, you wrote, "When I discovered this service was ineffective I cancelled the service. [...] Waiving of the remaining balance which I dispute is the solution to the problem. This balance is not accurate as service was cancelled." We want to reiterate that per the terms of the advertising agreement you signed, we require 30 days written notice to your account management contact if you wish to terminate your advertising program. We also provided this information about our cancellation policy to you via email on March 10, 2016. Our records indicate you provided your cancellation request on November 4, 2016, so your advertising program was canceled on December 4, 2016 in accordance with the terms of your contract. As advertising services were delivered in accordance with the advertising agreement you signed, we will not be able to waive the remaining balance. Regards,[redacted]Yelp Inc.

Hi Jennifer,Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns. Our records indicate you redeemed a $300 promotional ad credit on January 19, 2018. To redeem the $300 credit towards Yelp ads, you were required to sign up for our Cost Per Click (CPC) advertising...

campaign and put payment information on file. Once the promotion runs out, advertising continues until you stop your ads through your Yelp for Business Owners Account. You initially set your Cost Per Click monthly budget at $300. It looks like you increased your Cost Per Click monthly budget to $750 on February 8, 2018, and then terminated your ad campaign on February 21, 2018.Your advertising program was a self-serve program, which means that ads can be turned off by the business at any time through the Yelp for Business Owners Account. If you only wanted to use your $300 promotion, you would have needed to log in and end the program once that credit was used. During your ad setup there were Q&A's on the page explaining that you could stop your ads any time through the Yelp for Business Owners site.Additionally, after you signed up for and edited your advertising program, we sent you automated emails that recapped your purchase and the details of your campaign, including that the payment method on file in your account will be charged monthly, up to the maximum specified in the email, until cancelled. Advertisers also have the option to opt in to receiving billing confirmation emails in the Account Settings section of their account. Below is a more detailed description of how the promotion was applied: January 19, 2018 – January 31, 2018- You received ad clicks which cost a total of $117.72- $117.72 of your $300 credit was used and you paid $0February 1, 2018 – February 21, 2018- You received ad clicks which cost a total of $409.83- You had $182.28 remaining promotional credit for this month because it was partially used towards your January ads- $182.28 of your remaining $182.28 credit was used and you paid $227.55You can view ad click and billing information in the Yelp Ads and Billing tabs of your Yelp for Business Owners Account at https://biz.yelp.com/.You ended your advertising program on February 21, 2018. Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your advertising program for [redacted]
You expressed concern with the $300 you were charged at the beginning of May. As...

[redacted] noted in the email she sent you on April 27, your advertising program is billed in arrears, which means the $300 you were charged on May 1, 2015 was for advertising services delivered in April.
Your advertising program has been terminated as of April 30, 2015.
