Hi [redacted],Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for [redacted]We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your advertising campaign. To be clear, while the goal of advertising on Yelp is to drive more traffic to...

the business page, which may ultimately result in more customers, it is important to keep in mind that results are not guaranteed. When advertising with a Cost Per Click program, you are electing to pay every time a user clicks on your ad impression. You are also paying for an enhanced profile and featured video. We also want to address your comment, "for some reason, each month my click budget gets maxed out at the end of the cycle." Cost-Per-Click ads are delivered in categories matching your specific business, as well as other similar categories that our ad delivery system has identified as relevant. The price you pay per click is based on competition and relevance, but you'll always pay the least amount needed to win the click. We aim to maximize the number of clicks you get for your budget over the course of the month, and you should plan to have 100% of your budget fulfilled. Occasionally competitive demand prevents this, but you'll only be billed for the cost of the clicks you received in that monthly billing period. As advertising services are being delivered in accordance with the advertising agreement you signed, we will not be able to offer you a refund. It looks like your ads are currently set to cancel as of August 4, 2017.With regards to your comment, "the reviews I received from clients were taken down because Yelp didn't like them," it sounds like you are referring to the reviews that are not currently recommended. As you may have read, the goal of Yelp's recommendation software is to showcase more reliable content. The recommendation software establishes an objective standard against which every review can be measured, and looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability, and activity on Yelp. It's important to note that the software applies the same analysis to everyone, and that it affects both positive and negative reviews. Please also understand that the recommendation software is automated: we cannot manually override the software to recommend or not recommend a review. However, the system is not static -- reviews may become recommended or not recommended over time as the system continues to make decisions based on a variety of factors. To learn more about recommended reviews, please visit: http://www.yelp-support.com/Recommended_ReviewsRegards,[redacted]Yelp Inc.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: this is NOT "primarily" an online business. We are NOT like A Place For Mom that IS A CALL CENTER. Our business model is "boots on the ground@ meeting clients and families personally and taking them for tours of various living options available for the Elderly. I'm quite surprised at your lack of research into what we represent to our clients and the whole senior community before making any judgements. I want to point out that there was no acknowledgement for the behaviour of your rude sales rep I. The response from Yelp and I am very dissatisfied. Please let me know on next steps as we are a national company with corporate located in Scottsdale Arizona. Sincerely,[redacted]

We want to clarify that a business's decision whether or not to advertise...

on Yelp does not affect how the reviews on its listing are treated. Businesses are not punished if they don't advertise, nor are businesses awarded with preferential treatment with regards to their reviews if they do advertise. It appears you called our Sales team regarding your concerns with the reviews, but please note that there is zero relationship between the timing of when a review gets recommended and when a business decides to or declines to advertise: reviews can be recommended or not recommended days, weeks, or even months after they were first posted, and our Yelp sales representatives doesn't have any influence over when that might happen. We understand there are some misconceptions about this, so we invite you to visit http://www.yelp.com/advertiser_faq and http://officialblog.yelp.com/2013/05/no-yelp-doesnt-extort-small-businesses-see-... to learn more.

up.Evaluating reviews for inappropriate content isn’t easy and we recognize that each person has a different tolerance for strong language. Generally, what we don’t tolerate on our site are serious threats and hate speech. We do have a fairly high bar for colorful language and try to allow users to tell their story in their own words, whether or not they had a positive experience with a business, and regardless of our own personal tastes. We hope you can understand why we ultimately didn’t conclude that the review you reported violates our terms. For future reference, if you have reported a review, received an email from us about our decision to leave it up, and would like us to take a second look, you can submit a new inquiry by providing the case number (this is provided in our previously emailed response to the content you reported) here: [redacted]Regards,[redacted]Yelp Inc.

Hi [redacted],
Thank you for writing. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for [redacted] Veterinary Group.
You expressed concern with [redacted] S's review. As you may...

recall from the message you received from the Yelp Support team, this review has been removed because it fell outside our Content Guidelines.
To address your concern about how our content is monitored, we allow users to post reviews, and rely on the Yelp community to report content that they believe is questionable. If a review violates our Content Guidelines (http://www.yelp.com/guidelines), then our Support team will remove it. While reporting content doesn't guarantee that it'll be removed, our team looks at every inquiry and carefully evaluates the content against our guidelines. Each case will be reviewed by our team in the order it was received. Typically, you will receive a response to your report within a few business days.

I don't believe if you've removed a review once because of inappropriate content it should be allowed to go up again. Why can't you flag or block the user from our account or for that matter if the user is this angry maybe they should be blocked from Yelp!

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Although I do not fully accept the response from Yelp, I am grateful for the opportunity to have finally received a response from a human being named [redacted] rather than be subjected to receiving only mechanized communications as "answers" to my previous questions and complaints. It is clear that Yelp has chosen to rely entirely on software to screen reviews submitted, and that there is no means of overriding the "decisions" made by Yelp's mechanized technology. Whatever I, myself, may offer as a "midway compromise" would appear to be meaningless, since I don't imagine an equal "midway compromise" on the part of Yelp. I have decided to simply accept the response given by Yelp to my complaint, and to concentrate on continuing to provide the very best experience possible to the students at my Taekwondo school so that positive reviews will be submitted in huge numbers and, hopefully, eventually get posted despite what mechanized technology "decides". I am extremely grateful to the Revdex.com for all the time and help it has given me in this case, and have decided that it is time to close this case. Thanks again, Revdex.com, for your outstandingly professional involvement and kind support for a local businessman who is just trying to continue to achieve the "American Dream" and who is eternally grateful for all the blessings life in America has provided for him and his family. THANKS, Revdex.com!
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/11/25) */
Hi [redacted],
Thanks for writing back.
It sounds as though you are not satisfied our explanation of the recommendation software, but we can only stand by our previous statements. Yelp's recommendation software is an automated algorithm that attempts to weed out less reliable reviews while showcasing more reliable ones. This means that when reviews are posted to your listing, not all of them will make the cut. We acknowledge that even some legitimate reviews will not be recommended, but we still believe that the software as a whole makes our site more trustworthy and useful to consumers.
As indicated in our prior response, the recommendation software is automated to help avoid the potential for human bias inherent in individual decision-making: we cannot reverse the software's decisions, either to suppress an active review or to restore one that isn't recommended. But once again, the system is not static reviews may come and go as the recommendation software picks up new information.
We do understand the recommendation software can be frustrating at times, and your feedback is appreciated. When it comes down to it, all review sites face the same challenge: how to identify fake reviews among the many millions of legitimate reviews. It's no easy task, and there is always room for improvement. We hope to be able to continually improve on this issue.

Hi Kenneth,Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for Home on Bishop. You expressed concern with two reviews. It looks like you are referring to the reviews by Josie C. and Randal H.We have taken another look at Josie...

C.'s review and want to clarify our policies as they pertain to cases like this. Our Terms of Service prohibit anyone with a conflict of interest with a business from posting reviews about that business. In order to evaluate whether someone has a conflict of interest, we rely on information in our systems and information in the content that person has posted in the first place. Our moderators generally aren't able to consider outside information or arbitrate disputes, if it's not clear whether a conflict of interest may exist. With that in mind, we’ve taken another look and we stand by our original decision to leave the review up, as we did not find it to be in violation of our guidelines. That said, we have removed the profile photo posted by Josie C. because it falls outside our Content Guidelines. You may want to consider reaching out to the reviewer or publicly commenting on the review, which you can do with your free business account. While it is ultimately up to the reviewer to decide if they wish to engage further, responding to your reviews can show both the reviewer and visitors to your Yelp page that you care about your business. Hi Ted,Thank you for writing. We are glad to have this opportunity to address your concerns regarding your business page for HCI Steel Buildings. One of the ways we try to help Yelp users discover local businesses is by using automated software with the goal of showcasing reliable reviews. This...

means Yelp doesn’t recommend every review from every user and the software is automated so that it can apply the same objective standards to every business and every review. This is very different from other sites that tend to feature every single negative rant and positive rave. The software looks at dozens of different signals, including various measures of quality, reliability and activity on Yelp. What is recommended can change over time, and a review that is currently not recommended may be recommended on another day.Because our recommendation software is automated, the Yelp Support team cannot manually override the software to recommend or not recommend a review. Our recommendation software is automated precisely so that it can apply the same objective standards to every business and every review without being overridden by someone's personal preferences. That said, our recommendation software runs on a daily basis, so reviews that aren't currently recommended may be recommended in the future, and vice versa. We hope you’ll take the time to watch our video about the Recommendation Software: [redacted]Regards,HelenYelp Inc.

Hi [redacted],Thank you for your response. You have again claimed that competitor ads were not removed. Competitor ads appear on business pages below the business information between the business information and the Recommended Reviews, and are clearly labeled as ads. We want to reiterate that these competitor ads were removed from your business page for the duration of your advertising program. Please note that the "People also viewed" feature is not an advertisement, and therefore this feature was not removed. The "People also viewed" feature appears on all business pages regardless of their advertising status. It also sounds as though you are concerned that the enhanced profile feature cost less in your original advertising agreement than in the second advertising agreement you signed. Please note that the cost of the enhanced profile features can vary depending on what advertising program you have signed up for; for example, the enhanced profile may cost less if you are enrolled in a package that includes other advertising features, such as cost per click ads. Our records indicate that your original advertising program was had an enhanced profile for $25 a month plus a monthly ad click budget of $275 for cost per click ads, while your new advertising program was for an an enhanced profile only at a cost of $70 per month. We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your advertising campaign, but advertising services were delivered in accordance with the advertising agreements you signed. We have attached copies of your advertising agreements for your reference. Regards,[redacted]Yelp Inc.
