We will be contacting Mrs. [redacted] soon to let her know that we are on the way to take care of everything.  I was told that just in case they ran into a problem they wanted to make sure they had the necessary materials to make sure they can take care of everything so as not to delay any longer.  We will make sure this is taken care of as soon as possible and done correctly.  No matter what we want Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] to be 100% satisfied and happy!
Sincerely,

This is regretfully not something that is easily take care of and/or to explain the problem behind what is happening.  The damage that is on the roof unfortunately was again by wind/storm damage.  It has happened before and for it to happen again is frustrating for both parties....

The area that came up is noticable and if the roof wasn't properly nailed down the ENTIRE roof would of come off.  Also to add to the problem this particular area is a flat roof which also adds to the difficulty that is why we must when installing it making sure it is properly installed and nailed due to the fact that it easily vulnerable.  We understand the doubt that it was not installed right because of the damage that has occurred.  That being said we do want to help and understand that they do not wish to put it as an insurance claim.  We want to help as much as we can therefore we are wanting to come out and take care of that area as best we can and see if there is anything we can maybe see if we can protect it from any further damage that may happen from excess wind in the future.  The area blew up noticeably to where you can see where the wind or storm traveled and as a matter of fact our man that went out was almost blown off.  He said that it made it curl in that area and was brain storming with our foreman and some other coworkers as to what they would suggest could be done.  We want to help as much as we can and would greatly appreciate a chance to help solve this.
Sincerely,

We understand the frustration that [redacted] is going thru.  It has been frustrating on our end as well because we have been dealing with a company that provides our windows and have never had to go thru this before. We regret that our customer had to go thru this with the waiting and will...

do whatever in our power to make sure they are satisfied and hope they will consider in time to give us a chance to serve them.
Sincerely,

We strive to always help our customers in anyway we can.  Mr. [redacted] is no exception.  In this case there are many factors that we have to take into consideration.  The first being a warranty issue.  Mr. [redacted] states himself that we came out and fixed a leak in his roof and the...

place that was leaking is no longer leaking.  We looked at his concerns about  the leak in the chimney and let him know that it was the chimney and not what we had installed that was the reason for the leak and advised him to seek a chimney professional about it.  He states that he did call a chimney expert and they did inform him that the chimney needed to be removed.  He also adds that the chimney had never been used and has been there for a very long time.  When removing the chimney they observed the flashing that we had added to and made the comment that we did not replace the flashing just added more and sealed.  As procedure we do not remove any flashing that exist and does not show any damage we just made sure that it was tight and sealed.  Also there was no leaking from that flashing.  In removing the chimney they had to tear off a couple of bundles of shingles.  We have been contacted in the past by companies for materials that were needed for them to complete a job that they had worked on to get the proper materials.  However Mr. [redacted] contacted us under the impression that this was under warranty and that we were responsible to come out and replace the shingles that was removed by the chimney company.  He also stated that we had left the Architectural shingles (some) there and they would use them.  However he states that we used another shingle on the roof line and he wants us to bring him what was needed.  Mr. [redacted] I am sure is not aware that we use on roof lines what is called starter capping which is the color equal to the Architectural shingle that is the body of the roof but the starter capping is supposed to be the same color but the 25 year 3 tab.  We don't leave that due to the fact that they are ONLY used on the roof line and in fact we left him more of his main roof the Architectural for him as a convenience for the future in case he needed them for any reason.  We told Mr. [redacted] this was not under warranty and also let him know that his color was a special order color and we would have to order it and get it in.  However we were extremely busy at that time and were working on storm damaged roofs and he lives about an hour away.  We told him we would try and help him as best we could and we would order the shingles and as a courtesy we would not charge him for the shingles, but we were not able to bring them until we were in that area and we did not know how long that would be so we told him it would maybe faster if he told the chimney company to come and pick them up and if they would be able to install them or if they needed us we could let them know how much.  We regret that he feels that we are ignoring him or not following thru with a warranty but as explained and as describe by him that portion of work that was done is not under warranty.  However, if he still needs us to order shingles and bring them and install we would be happy to do so.  Also we have no problem contacting the chimney company and seeing what we could work out.  Again we appreciate our customers and strive to make them happy!!!!

We have been out numerous times to Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] home to address the issues that they have been concerned about and as I write this we are still addressing some areas of concern.  We will continue to do so until they are satisfied.  I believe the reason for the amount of time is...

due impart to the scheduling and when we can meet with the [redacted] as they both work and there is a new addition to the family so we are trying to accommodate that as well.  Rest assured we will make sure they are satisfied and if they need anything in the future we will be there then also.

Our email account has been down and now that I am up and running I want to answer the concerns Mrs. [redacted] has.  I do thank her for her patience normally we do like to get to service calls within 2 to 3 days a week at the most depending on the leak or the call.  However we are in the...

process of employee changes and have been running for the latter part of this year a skeleton crew so to speak.  We also have let our screen room installer go due to a numerous complaints on details and timing.  However this means that we are getting the right people in place to make us more organized and better than ever.  I am also happy to say Mr. [redacted] was called by our new man in that position this morning and let Mr. [redacted] know that he would be at his home Saturday to look at the problem and find an answer.  He also let him know that he will find out what he will need and proceed to take care of it this coming week.  We will continue to strive to be better every year and we are very thankful for all our customers and thank them for their understanding and patience.
Sincerely,

We regret any inconvenience this has had on Mr. [redacted] and want to reassure him that this will be resolved.  There was an error in accounting and we are getting everything sorted out as quickly as possible.  Unfortunately it has taken longer than we anticipated.  However once it is...

all cleared we will make sure Mr. [redacted] is made aware and given all proper documentation.  Again our apologizes for the inconvenience and will take all measures necessary to make sure it can not happen again.
Sincerely,

I am sorry, I missed the message. The company has not resolved my complaint.  He texted my wife two weeks ago, with the same story we have heard, but we still have Lien on the house.

We regret that Mrs. [redacted] has taken her repair to this level and her frustration behind it.  However we would like to state that she informed us when she called that her home was built in 2002 and she thought it was a company Plantation Builders but she did not have any paperwork at that...

time of her phone call.  We did do some work for Plantation builders and we informed Mrs. [redacted] that we would have to look it up to see if the address she was calling in about was  a address we had done.  When Mrs. [redacted] called back she spoke to the receptionist and proceeded to curse at her and threaten her by saying that if someone didn't fix her repair she would come to the office and get in her [redacted] face!  Our receptionist did inform Mrs. [redacted] that she did not need to threaten her and that she was on the list however we tend to get to repairs to their importance.  This being said we did send someone to take a look at her issues and in doing so found out that the damage is caused by wind damage and was blown and bent on the house. Which in fact is not a warranty issue.  Also the siding that is on the house the maker which is Alcoa is no longer in business in Albany or Columbus.  Also we have to state that the company that built the home, Plantation Builders is out of business as well.  Our man that went out to Mrs. [redacted]'s home did call her today (Monday) because he told her he would call her Monday to let her know that he was going to find out about her vinyl and if it can be ordered and when he told her that they don't make it she proceeded to tell him that she felt that he was lying to her.  We still would like to help because we have been here for a long time and most of the vinyl and builders are out of business so we try to help when we can.  It is unfortunate that Mrs. [redacted] assumed we were lying or trying to take advantage of her when we do want to help.  In closing Mrs. [redacted] informed our worker that she wanted him to come nail it back up and he told her he would be there in 20 minutes to do that for her.  We hope that Mrs. [redacted] will be ok and if she does need any work done we will be happy to help and also refer her to someone who can help her with financing if needed.

This issue has NOT been resolved and we are NOT happy. Although the leaks in the roof have been resolved (thanks to [redacted]), but as I have told him on three t four occasions since then, we are still having some leaking issues around the bottom of the room. And the issue concerning the damage done to the carpeting from the three years of leaking has not been resolved. We are not happy, satisfied customers of this company. A problem still persists and until it is completely taken care of, we will continue to seek some type of resolve for the mess that this company has created on our property.

We understand Mr. [redacted] frustration and regret that he had to go thru waiting for the windows as he did.  On our part it was frustrating due to the window company that we have dealt with for years were not meeting their normal performance with us and for that it made us look as tho we were not...

preforming. We most certainly understand and will take care of our customers needs and wants.  We will learn from this to make sure it will never take place again.

It is unfortunate that we have had to go to these lengths to get the attention of this company. It has been almost three years in dealing with them and trying to get them to correct what is so horribly wrong with the addition to our home. We contracted with Advantage for the sunroom addition. They in turn, contracted with another company to complete the project. Of course [redacted] had no idea that we are STILL dissatisfied because she has not contacted us. It is almost next to impossible to reach anyone at the office. From the very beginning, when we were lucky enough to get someone to answer at the office, we have had contact with [redacted], or someone professing to be Mr. [redacted]'s assistant. Each time, we have expressed our dissatisfaction with the construction. We explained the issues and each time we were promised that it would be taken care of. Well, guess what, three years later, and we still have issues. Yes, I have called [redacted] directly because that is what he asked me to do. He gave me his direct number and said that I should call him instead of trying to contact the office. [redacted] is aware of the ongoing issues that we are experiencing, and like those before him, he, too, has promised a resolve. Like the others before him, he, too, has left us still holding the bag and hoping that he will at least do what the owner will not even do and that is to communicate with us and try to resolve the issues that we are still faced with. We thought we were dealing with a reputable company when we contracted with them for this addition. But we have been proven wrong. The owner contacted me one time---one time---in all these many months. I spoke with him via cell phone on a Thursday. He was to come to our home on the following Saturday to take care of the problem. That was four months ago. I have not seen or heard from him since then. He claimed that he had no idea that we were having these issues. That remains to be seen. The point is that he knows about it now and still has not shown his face or called again to see if it has been resolved. Apparently his assistant does not communicate with him about things going on within the business. And as far as [redacted]'s statement about the problem area not being built to have a direct hit with water such as from a hose or sprinkler is ludacris. If it is properly constructed, which it isn't, it should withstand water hitting it directly without it all pouring inside the sunroom through the cracks that have not been properly sealed. We paid too much money for this addition to have the problems and lack of concern from the company and its owners that we have had since the completion of the addition. We want the opportunity to speak directly to Mr. [redacted] at some point. I don't think that's likely, though. It is unfortunate that a million dollar company (his words, not mine) would treat their customers like this. We just want the leaks sealed and stopped then we will wash our hands of this company. We only want to be compensated, one way or another,  for damage in the sunroom caused by almost three  years of water leaks. The carpeting, furniture, and other items took a direct hit of water pouring into the sunroom. It is our desire to quickly resolve the issues that still remain so that we can finally enjoy our sunroom. This back and forth is exhausting and very frustrating for us. All we want is what we paid for.

Revdex.com:
There are a few separate issues related to my complaint. I will discuss them individually.

1. Chimney.  The true source of the leak was difficult to diagnose. There were a number of possible sources, none could be proven while the chimney was intact.  Your company recommended I contact [redacted].  It was a good recommendation.  The owner is a master craftsman that has probably forgotten more about chimney’s than most people will ever know.

He looked at the chimney and we discussed several options.  I chose to have the chimney removed because it was the option most likely to permanently solve all current and future chimney related leaks.

A. The contractor had removed most of the chimney and all of the flashing before he called me to tell me the old flashing had not been removed, just covered with new flashing and sealant. He was convinced that was the source of the leak and was adamant the old flashing should always be removed and replaced with a new one.  At that point, there was no opportunity to take photos and completing the chimney removal was the only option.

2.  The Hip [roofline]. The chimney was located at the top of an inverted “U” shaped Hip. About 20 feet of the Hip [10 feet on each side] had to be removed because the Advantage crew’s over use of nail guns made separating the architectural shingles [on the flat portion of the roof] from the Hip shingles impossible. If the Hip shingles could have stayed in place or could have been reused I would have never contacted Advantage or filed a complaint. I would have simply noted the experience and moved on.

A. I asked Advantage to replace the Hip because it was a different shingle. The chimney contractor re-roofed the chimney area with the architectural shingles on hand and left the Hip covered with tar paper. I called your foreman and asked for the Hip shingles to be replaced. He returned my call and said they would have to be ordered.
Given the fact that we were experiencing frequent hard rain several times per week, I used the remaining architectural shingles to cover the exposed tar paper to avoid the possibility of major ceiling damage while waiting for the proper replacement shingles.

3.  Communications.  The foreman that I worked with to solve the leak problem was  professional in every sense of the word. He knew his craft, did everything he could to resolve my roof issue and always returned my phone calls. Had the foreman been allowed to work with me and replace the Hip shingles when he could schedule it this complaint would have never been filed.  When I called him to inquire if the Hip shingles had been received he replied “My supervisor told me to tell you that if you want the shingles replaced, you can drive up here, pick them up and do it yourself.”  It was obvious he did not want to tell me that but was simply doing what he was told.

A.  The only person in the Advantage company that communicated with me was the foreman. I left several messages with your office staff asking for a member of senior management or the owner to call me so this issue could be resolved.  Not once did anyone return my calls.

Advantage poor craftsmanship regarding a poor chimney flashing installation cost me $1649 to remove a chimney that most likely didn’t need to be removed and $87.84 to replace a water faucet handle their roofing crew broke and to add insult to injury the owner and his management staff refused to return my phone calls.

The sad fact is, this complaint would still have not been filed if Advantage would have devoted a couple bundles of shingles and a couple hours of a competent roofers time to replace the Hip shingles that had to be removed by the chimney contractor. All that I ask is that this be done at no cost to me.

[redacted]

I apologize I thought I had sent you a reply but when going to my sent page I realized it didn't go thru.  I am happy to say that this lien issue has finally come to an end and Mrs. [redacted] should actually have already received a letter stating that it has come to a resolve and there is no...

longer a lien on her property. We regret that this happened and that it took so long to get to an end but this will defiantly be a lesson learned and look forward to serving our customers needs in the future.
