Affinity Federal Credit Union Reviews (62)

Review: I am disputing overdraft fees charged to my bank account.

My name is [redacted] and I have been with Affinity since 2013 for mainly bill pay. Recently I have had a dispute with a charge. On the morning of Jan 21,2015 I checked my acct before purchasing breakfast for $11.There were enough funds in my acct.Later that day however a check for $40 was cashed which apparently caused my acct to become overdrafted -$49 and change.I immediately went and put $100 in my acct not minding paying the $30 fee since at the time I thought it was my fault. It brought me up to positive $49 and change. The following day(22nd) I checked my acct and everything was good with my acct.I had not used my card that day with the exception of a 7.99 hulu charge. I was still in the positive. I go to check my acct on(23rd of Jan) and I am overdrafted $17.99. I could not understand why. However on my way to work I deposited $100 and after work another $200,and was going to call the bank that following day (fri 23rd) during business hours. That fri morning I check my acct to see 2 more $30 overdraft fees. I call the bank in which they tell me that apparently the check was pending on the 20th of Jan and at the time it would have cleared leaving me with a balance of $1.01, and so from there my $11 breakfast charge and the subsequent $7.99 hulu charge made my acct overdrafted hence the fees and there is nothing they could do about it because it was not an error on their end.Now the problem I have is that I check my acct daily and there was never anything on my acct pending for that check. In fact I did not see it on my acct for the first time until Tuesday the 21st. In addition to this if it was pending like she said and I had $1.01 remaining in my acct once it went through then why was I hit with the first overdraft fee of $30 on that day. In addition the dates and charges that are on my online statement and theirs do not match up and I brought this to her attention in which it was not really addressed. My issue as well is that my statement charges and dates should match up with theirs so that I will not think there are funds in my acct when there may not be any because things are pending that I am not seeing or things are not posting on those days. If I had of seen this supposed pending transaction on the 20th I would have better been able to access which charges I will have made using the card and I would have also seen that there was supposedly $1.01 left in my acct after this check cleared. I also have screen shots I took on my phone from my online acct on the days that are in question since they did not match up with the dates the lady on the phone was telling meDesired Settlement: I am seeking my $90 in overdraft fees back and I am also asking if there is a way for the pending things popping up in their system to coincide and be able to show on my acct the same. The transactions and pending charges not being completely accurate on both ends and it is extremely confusing when trying to figure out when things are posting pending and coming out of my acct.

Response:

A manager from Affinity Federal Credit Union called [redacted] to discuss the fee schedule and clear up any confusion the member may have. In addition, $60.00 was returned to [redacted] account to refund fees charged for items not clearly displayed as pending.

Regards,

Review: My name is [redacted] and I have been a member of Affinity Credit Union in New Jersey for over 20 years. In 1994 I opened a credit card account with this institution. In 2005 a new card was issued to me by Affinity and my old account was closed without any action on my part. What they actually did without my knowledge was to make this new card a joint account with my sister who is a member also. My sister had no knowledge of this either and we did not apply for this joint account because we both previously had individual credit card accounts. When I pull my credit report and saw it last year, I contacted customer service and they promised they would fix the problem which they did not do. I made several calls later and nothing was done. I went into a branch early this summer and when they try to find the application they claimed was made in 2005 for this joint account there was none on record. They could not find one because we did not apply for a joint account. The representative made a phone call, let me write a note saying that this account was not authorize by me. She faxed this note to whoever she was speaking to on the phone and promised that the problem will be resolved, which never happened. Earlier this year they converted to a new system which gave my sister access to my credit card charges. This is an invasion of my privacy which I pointed out to the rep. I made two subsequent call to customer service and things only got worse. After the last call about two months ago, they started mailing my credit card statement to my sister's home. She recently converted to paperless billing so now I am unable to view my monthly statement online. I can view my charges but my sister is the only one who can view my monthly statement. I am out of option since every attempt to fix the problem has failed and the credit union seem to be unable to fix the mess they created or maybe they are just indifferent to the whole situation.Desired Settlement: I would like the Affinity to have my account go back to an individual account as I opened in 1994 and remove all references from my credit report of this joint account that was never opened by my sister and I in 2005. I would also like Affinity to remove any access my sister has in viewing my credit card charges and monthly statement.

Response:

After a thorough investigation on Ms.[redacted] account, it was determined that the member’s sister was in advertently added to the credit card account. On November 5, 2013 Ms.[redacted] was contacted and notified that her account has been corrected and properly enrolled in online documents which will ensure she receives notifications whenever a document is available for viewing. Ms.

[redacted]is satisfied with the resolution.
