In response to complaint number [redacted], the customer placed a complaint with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities on 5/*/2014.
Upon receipt of the complaint, Alpha conducted an internal investigation into the customer’s concern of high rates.
Alpha explained to the customer...

that we have no control over the market factors that determine our prices. The pricing portrayed by Alpha reflects the current market costs of energy.
In communicating with the customer, [redacted] and [redacted] asked for assistance with the last two bills, which Alpha agreed to do in good faith.
As stated in this complaint, the customer would like $250, which Alpha agreed to prior to this complaint. 
To our understanding, when the customer placed a complaint with the local regulatory body they were very satisfied with the resolution we had to offer and the case was closed.

In response to complaint number [redacted], Alpha contacted the customer upon receipt of the complaint to further address the customer's concern.
In communications with the customer, it was explained that Alpha only offers variable rates, which the customer agreed to.
Under this type of service the prices each month are modified to reflect the current market costs associated with the commodity service.
The pricing has increased significantly due to market factors beyond Alpha's control.
Additionally, Alpha has offered [redacted] a good faith offer of $30 which he accepted.
We thank you for your investigation, this matter is resolved.

In response to this notification for case number [redacted],Alpha has processed the refund check for $473.59 & the customer can expectto receive the check within the next two weeks. Upon speaking with the customer on 12/**/2014, Alpha’scustomer service sent notification to the utility of the customer’s request tocancel. Per the utility company, the cancellation date was set to1/**/2015 for both electric & gas. The customer’s service has sincereturned to the utility.In addition, Alpha had also placed the customer’s account ona preferred rate for the last billing cycle to accommodate the customer evenfurther until the cancellation went into effect.

In responce to complaint number [redacted], Alpha opened an internal investigation into this customers concern upon receipt of the initial Revdex.com complaint.
Alpha reached out to the customer and reviewed the complaint with her.

In regards to Complaint Number [redacted], Alpha Gas & Electric opened an internal investigation prior to this complaint. 
To give a little history into this matter, **. [redacted] placed a complaint through the New York Public Service Commission regarding high rates on 3/**/2014.
Upon...

receipt of that initial complaint, Alpha had reached out to the customer to resolve his concern. 
Alpha explained the reason for the rate increase and that our pricing reflects the current market costs associated with the commodity service. 
At the time, **. [redacted] requested to be cancelled and to not have services from us so Alpha abided by his request.
After solving the matter, **. [redacted] then placed another complaint with the regulatory body stating that we did not resolve his matter. 
He is not forth coming with the solution he is seeking. 
At this time we feel as if we have satisfied this case. 
We have tried to bring closure to **. [redacted] but we feel as if he is just fishing for money at this point. 
We would love to help, if you have any suggestions on bringing this to closure, we are open to suggestions.

This is the first time that I am hearing about a "Variable Rate". Regardless, since when does Variable Rate mean more expensive? This company projected themselves to be cheaper and competitive, when asked how they can be cheaper, they explained that they have the ability to get their gas and electric from various suppliers at a competitve rate. I would not have signed up with any company that would put me at risk for paying higher utilities. The key words again are competitive and cheaper, they were not even close, being almost double the cost is robbery and fraud. I have found numerous similar complaints against this company online. Since this company is not willing to honor what they sold and reimburse me for the overages I have incurred due to their fraudulent advertising, I will now be contacting the State Attorney General.

 A $100 credit does not adequately compensate me for the over $400 in added utility expenses that it cost me from January - April 2014 by switching from [redacted] to ALPHA Gas & Electric.  Again, in December, the ALPHA representative assured me that their costs were much lower than [redacted]...this is/was not the case....the below comparative analysis speaks volumes and demonstrates specifically how ALPHA has been misleading their customers.
Gas Rates
January 2014 - [redacted]: 0.597275 per ccf; ALPHA: 0.708935 per ccf...my use was 357ccf...difference was paying $39.87 more for ALPHA February 2014 - [redacted]: 0.629430 per ccf; ALPHA 0.802736 per ccf...my use was 475ccf...difference was paying $82.33 more for ALPHA
March 2014 - [redacted]: 0.613375 per ccf; ALPHA 0.860000 per ccf...my use was 306ccf....difference was paying $75.47 more for ALPHA
Electric Rates
January 2014 - [redacted]: 0.066374 per kWh; ALPHA 0.1245274 per kWh...my use was 1018kWh...difference was paying $59.21 more for ALPHA
February 2014 - [redacted]: 0.146291 per kWh; ALPHA 0.234918 per kWh...my use was 926kWh...difference was paying $82.06 more for ALPHA
March 2014:  bill has not been received...but, based on the previous two months...I will be paying and estimated $75 more for ALPHA
By switching to ALPHA to "save" money...because they are "much cheaper" than [redacted]...I have paid an additonal $400+ (estimated $413.94) for utilities in only three (3) months.  So where's the savings?  If this isn't consumer fraud and a bait & switch tactic to lure innocent customers...what is?  I find their original offer of a $25 credit and now a $100 credit offensive...why can't they just admit they are misleading customers with their well-planned scam and overcharing for gas & electric to make a quick buck.  We can't ignore the facts...each and every month the ALPHA gas and electric rates have been significantly higher than their competitors...so how dare them tell customers they will save them money on their utility bills....it's just not true.
I appreciate the Revdex.com arbitrating this case....however ALPHA appears to be trying to dodge the bullit with a trivial offer of $100....therefore, I am in the process of contacting the local TV station investigative reporters and making other Western NY customers aware of ALPHAs perceived scam tactics and deceptive marketing practices.  My next contacts are the NY State Attorney General and Federal Trade Commissions who can determine if these demonstrated business practices are considered criminal..I believe the facts speak for themselves.

Review: Someone from alpha gas company call saying I had a rebate coming from my gas company for good service for year so I'm done a refund so they ask for acct information which I did give. I said several times I'm not buying or want anything so they insisting it's just a refund when I find out they were switching my service I call them back a week later asking them not to switch anything that was back in January 2014 which they never cancelled my service when found out they never did stop my service they sent me a bill for 500$ dollars along with my [redacted] bill I call them on that matter n they really push me off. For past two months bills still coming in from them another 128$ n 226$ which put my sevice in for shut off bill is 986$Desired Settlement: Please look into that company because when they do not tell you who they are they advertise someone from a refund bureau I'm really at a hard ship do to all these extra charges on my [redacted] bill bill never that high I'm in a one bed room apt with hushand who has medical problems

After reviewing our records, it was determined that [redacted] did call Alpha Gas & Electric to cancel the services on 4/*/2014.

Once Alpha send a request to cancel to the utility, it is then up to the utility to take the customer back.

The utility usually chooses the date according to the upcoming meter reading dates. The date that the customer returns to the utility is out of Alpha’s control.

When they call me back in January 2014 I told the woman not to transfer my service when I found out they switch my service it was in April when they apply 539.00 on my [redacted] bill. When I did contact them in April ** they told me I had to go to [redacted] to switch so that was false information on there part. She call me on a refund not a uiltily switch would like for them to supply the recording you will here me saying multiple time don't switch my service. Thank you!

Review: I recently received my year end bill with [redacted] and noticed that my bill was higher than usual for the last cycle. I am on a level payment plan and pay my bill each month. I am aware that the bill is higher at the end of the year but this bill was significantly higher. I immediately called [redacted] and they advised me that my supplier for gas and electric is Alpha Gas & Electric LLC. I questioned who they were and they told me that they have been my supplier since March 2014. The representative also advised me that the amount I am paying currently , and have been paying for electric kilowatts and gas therms are double if not triple than what [redacted] is charging. [redacted] is charging .10 cents per kwh and Alpha is charging 14.2000 per kwh. Gas at [redacted] rate is 47.7 and Alpha is charging 63.39888, They advised me to call Alpha Gas & Electric directly. I later phoned them and they told me I approved their services via phone and that they have me recorded. I do not recall ever approving them nor did my husband. I asked to speak with a [redacted], and was told there is nothing they can do regarding the bill. It is outrageous that I have been paying double and triple the amounts for both electric and gas for months! My husband and I are currently receiving assistance from the state. It does not make any sense at all. They overcharged me, claim I agreed to their services This is unacceptable. Why would I choose a carrier that is charging exuberant amounts and I am on public assistance. They are crooks!Desired Settlement: I should be refunded 1500.00 overrages paid since March 2014

I have filed a complaint with your offices and is now closed- the claim # is [redacted] . My initial complaint against Alpha Gas & Electric , LLC was that they were charging 2-3 times more for electricity and gas monthly compared to [redacted] rates who I thought my gas and electric was being supplied from. Alpha Gas and Supply contacted me after they received the complaint from your offices. They told me that they could not cancel my contract with them until the end of the billing cycle knowing that they were charging me 2-3 x more each month since March 2014. They could not even supply my authorization for them to even be the gas and electric supplier for my home. With speaking to a [redacted] in customer service I was told that they would refund me 473.59. which I have not received to date and this was over 1 month ago. I was also told by [redacted] yesterday that I am still being charged an outrageous rate for both gas and electric. I was just granted assistance with [redacted] and I know that Alpha Gas and Electric is robbing me of hard earned money by overcharging and continuing to overcharge me because the billing cycle is not over!! This is unacceptable. I deserve to be refunded me the entire amount of over rages paid since March 2014.

I recieved a phone call from alpha gas because I cancelled my account.the guy on the phone was rude and obnoxious.said dont you want your rebate check?been with themfor a year and all I got was bills that more than doubled.he said I have to let them know what bill I want a rebate on.what?he keot saying I wasnt listening to him.couldntget a word in at all.very very rude. said everything but calleing me stupid.now my elec will probably get shut off because it was so much.

In regards to complaint number [redacted], as stated before, Alpha Gas & Electric has an authorized sale done by a [redacted].

[redacted] provided the account number and all the account information required for the enrollment.

As you can see, the customer has the same last name as the person who authorized the enrollment.

Alpha is unable to enroll a customer without speaking to an authorized account holder to obtain the account information so we did speak to [redacted] for the enrollment.

The account has been terminated and the service has returned to the utility after 4/**/14.

Alpha has unsuccessfully tried to contact the customer upon receipt of this complaint.

Alpha is willing to offer the customer a good faith reimbursement for her troubles.

Review: On or about December **, 2013 I received an unsolicited call from Alpha Gas & Electric stating "Do you want to save money on your gas and electric bill?" ...I stated yes and the woman went on to explain that they could save me considerable money on both my gas and electric bill compared to what [redacted] and [redacted] are charging....the representative went as far as stating that "your bill could be cut in half" and "you will get one month free"....so with this opportunity to "save" money on my utilities I decided to switch. BIG MISTAKE....my utility expenses have actually doubled in cost....Alpha Gas & Electric has used a policy of bait and switch and in three short months my rates have gone from .06 cents per kilowatt hour to .23 cents (almost quadruppled) and .56 cents per cubic foot of gas to .80 cents...my combined utility bill in March was almost $800....never before had my utility bill been over $400...this price gouging is ridiculous and unacceptable! Consumers need to be outraged at this deceptive business practice.Desired Settlement: The Alpha Gas & Electric Service was totally misrepresented.....instead of saving money....each month the price of utilities has gone up. When I contacted them they stated there was a "supply shortage"...that's funny the other utility providers don't seem to have this problem? I feel like I have been ripped off and I want my money back. To top it off...when I called to cancel they stated it will take three billing cycles to switch back to my original utility provider....this is just plain wrong....it took one day to switch to their service and now it takes 90-days to switch back?? This is just plain wrong...in the United States of America we should not allow businesses like Alpha Gas & Electric to exist...misrepresentation of cost savings and these bait and switch tactics. I want a refund and I want my service switched back immediately to [redacted] and [redacted].

In communicating with the customer after receipt of the complaint on 3/**/14, Alpha offered the customer a good faith amount of $100, which she declined.

Given the increase in the market costs of energy, Alpha feels as if this amount is more than fair enough.

The good faith offer is still available should [redacted] decide to take it.

Review: Alpha is the power supplier on behalf of Orange & Rockland Pike County Light and Power

Billing for 01/**/14 $135.05 (Supplier Charge)

Use during both periods substantially the same

Company says because of the cold weather it had to buy for a higher price. Its higher price represents a 350% increase. It says I had agreed to a variable rate when I signed with it. I told them it had a legal requirement of "reasonableness" and a 350% increase is unreasonable. To charge me such an unreasonable increase without warning or notice is outrageous.

[redacted] contacted me after I filed a NYPSC complaint and asked me what I was looking for - Told them differrence between Jan & Feb Supplier Charge - $252.08. Not hearing back from her after a week I spoke to the NYSPSC and they changed the complaint to a formal complaint. She then, outrageously informed the NYPSC that the matter had been settled. She called me to find out why I had filed another complaint when the matter had been resolved and I said what was resolved. How was it resolved. Offered to split it with me ($126.04) and I said my bottom figure was $175.00. Again she said she had to discuss it with home office and then called me back and told me she was reducing the offer to $100.00 and she tried to force it down my throat. I told her I wasn't interested. Her conduct here, in absolute bad faith, is outrageous and well as the outrageous jacked up charge of 350%.Desired Settlement: Request the difference between billing periods, $252.08. Since I had told her I would accept $175.00 in settlerment I will live with that figure.

Outtrageous. They reached out - laughable. They have not resolved a single thing. To them that seems to mean they will not do anything. Of course I am looking to have my bill reduced to a reasonable amount. Their overcharge of over 300% is an outrage. They keep saying it's resolved. Maybe they should pull their heads out of the sand and make a real reasonable attempt to resolve this. Perhaps a class action suit involving all their customers will make them see reality here.

Review: I chose Alpha Gas and Electric to be my gas and electric supplier, in conjunction with PSE&G my normal supplier. I was advised at the time I selected Alpha as my supplier that I would receive a discount and have a lower electric monthly bill. This did not occur, I received a bill from my electric company indicating that alpha charged me 3 times what my normal electric bill is monthly. I have tried to contact them several times. No one will answer the phone, or return calls. I have no way of resolving this issue, because there are no representatives answering calls.Desired Settlement: I would like to discontinue services with Alpha and receive a refund, because the information I received from them at the time I agreed to receive services was misleading and incorrect. I would also like the company to contact me directly, this seems like a scheme, and a supplier who has neglected to take care of customer grievances timely or with concern.

This letter is being sent to you in response to the complaint that was filed with the Revdex.com.

After thorough investigation of the complaint, Alpha Staff determined that the meter reading for the billing cycle of 7/*/2013-8/*/2013 was 819 KWH at $0.1190 per KWH. Per PSE&G's website listing, the PSE&G supply rate for the same time period was $0.122264 per KWH.

Each month, PSE&G provides a price to compare on page (3) of your bill. Thr variable rate that is offered is a competitive rate that fluctuates on a month to month basis.

[redacted]. [redacted], per our conversation, Alpha Gas and Electric submitted a cancellation request on your behalf on 8/**/2013.

Review: In February or March of this year a representative of Alpha Gas and Electric called and said they were calling from the"gas company" and wanted to know if we wanted to save money. My husband who is a senior citizen did not understand that this was not [redacted]. He agreed to this representative the he wanted to save money and apparently they took this as approval to change our Esco from [redacted] to Alpha gas and electric. In fCt, we did NOT want to change. We did not notice that the orovider had changed until May when we immediately called [redacted]. As of June [redacted], [redacted] switched us back to [redacted]. However [redacted] says they cannot remove the charges from Alpha Gas. We spoke to a rep at Alpha Gas over a month ago and nothing has been done to delete these charges. We feel this is most definitely a scam on senior citizens because the cost of the gas provided by Alpha Gas was nearly double the cost provided by [redacted] or maybe more. Please look into this matter for us since we cannot get any satisfaction from either [redacted] or Alpha Gas. Our credit is suffering and we are told our gas service could be disconnected! We feel Alpha Gas is trying to fool seniors by saying they are calling from the gas company to help them save money!Desired Settlement: We would like the Revdex.com to look into unethical practices

Of Esco companies especially as it relates to seniors. In addition we want our bill to reflect the charges we would have paid if we had never been switched from [redacted] to Alpha Gas through an unethical phone scam. Thank you!

In responce to complaint number [redacted], Alpha opened an internal investigation into this customers concern upon receipt of the initial Revdex.com complaint.

Alpha reached out to the customer and reviewed the complaint with her.

Per Customers request, Alpha has offered the customer a good faith check in the amount of $312.82.

[redacted], wife of [redacted], expressed stisfaction and portrayed her gratification to Alpha.

This case has been closed.
