Angie's List, LLC Reviews (475)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I don't know who "Ms. [redacted]" is. As far as your response, no, the customer did not verify my contact information correctly. He stated one claim; that he thought they said "[redacted]" when they called. The contact info he provided was not correct either. The phone number he said called him repeatedly was [redacted] and the name on the caller ID was "Portland, TN". He stated "that number is a land line", which he also stated it said on a reverse search on google, in 2012, and to this day still says it is a bellsouth land line. I've only had 3 phone numbers ever listed with my company. [redacted](My cell phone and the current office number listed on every website and business card), [redacted](my old cell phone/office number listed on business websites and cards) and 800-766-348(800-ROOF4U/we just acquired about a month ago). I can't make outgoing calls from the 800 number, it's incoming calls only that are routed to my cell phone. If you call the [redacted] number, it says it's the number for Vanderbilt Hospital's Spine Injury Center, obviously which is NOT [redacted]. So how can someone say I called them from a number that is for another business? That means anyone can call someone from any number and say my company name and claim it's me. When I call someone, it says my cell phone number and my company "[redacted]" on the caller ID. Neither one of those were on Mr. [redacted]'s caller ID. My business is located in Hendersonville, TN and I live in Hendersonville, TN. I challenge Angie's List to find ANYTHING that links my business or my personal home address to Portland, TN, EVER. At the time this happened, I lived in Madison, TN. So how could I have a land line in Portland, TN if I live and my place of business is in Hendersonville, TN? The answer clearly is, I couldn't. So to your claim that you verified my contact information, you didn't. AT ALL. I'm very familiar with internet laws and how they are poorly favored in a websites favor. The website is not held liable for anyone who talks slanderous about someone on their site per federal law, 47 USC 230 (Section 230). But there is a catch here. I now have written documented statements saying that Angie's List verified the information to be correct and also advertises that you verify this information on your website. You have failed to do so. To verify means you would verify the number that called Mr. [redacted] to be correct, at minimum. Clearly, this is not my number; it isn't even in the same city as my business or any home address I've ever had. Letting someone post these things is wrong, even if you are protected under law to do so. This law doesn't protect someone who makes claims that they have verified the information to be accurate though. By doing that, Angie's List is telling my customer's that what Mr. [redacted] said is true and has been verified to be accurate, which easily will be proven to be wrong in civil suit. There are many things that this telemarketing or roofing company, whoever it was that called Mr. [redacted] could have said, that could have made him think it was us. They could have said "we provide access to roofing", we want to "access your roof". Access is a very common word that could have been misunderstood as my company name. I've made it very clear to Mr. [redacted] and Angie's List that we do not telemarket. We are roofers. We get jobs by referrals and stopping and talking to neighbors when we are somewhere doing work and notice someone has damage. Mr. [redacted] lives about an hour from us. While we, along with every other roofing company, do work insurance claims like the company that called him obviously must since they stated "we've had storm damage lately", we don't work in his area. It's too far of a drive to go find work. Unless it's a referral, we would not go out there. They also haven't even had storm damage in that area that I know about since we've been in business!(since 2010)  He lives in a condo, just as I did in 2012. In these communities, the homeowner's association insures the roof up, and the homeowner insures everything below the roof. This is pretty common knowledge for roofers and the likes. I'd imagine, if a roofing company had been in the business long enough to have the money to hire telemarketers, they would probably have done enough roofs to learn that much, at that point. Any roofer would know better than to call Mr. [redacted], because he couldn't replace his roof if he wanted to! His homeowner's association handles that just like every other apartment and condo community where homes share roofs with their neighbors. My opinion is this call was made by a third party company contracted to telemarket for a roofing company. It was somebody that was obviously randomly dialing numbers off a list or a phone book that didn't know if he lived in a house or apartment or condo. Roofers don't get these lists of numbers, telemarketers do. And obviously whoever called him must not have a breakdown of what kind of structure(home, apartment, etc) that he lived in, or they wouldn't have been bothering him in the first place! I get calls and emails all the time from these people asking if they can generate leads for us. We have chosen to stay away from that kind of marketing due to my opinion being that 1 it's annoying, 2 you end up in situations like this because someone else is representing your company that doesn't hold the same values you do for your company. So, if we don't work in Franklin, we don't telemarket, [redacted] is the number for Vanderbilt hospital and is also listed as a landline in a city where I don't work or live, how in the world can you say this has been verified? Simply put, you can't. So I'm going to ask one more time for you to do what you've advertised to the world and I that you do, and verify that what the customer said is correct. I've lost 3 jobs that I know about now over this negative review. This is obviously a special circumstance of the wrong identity. I think we both know you owe it to me and anyone else in my shoes, to take the time to prove that it was my company and not just some customer that thought he heard the company say the word access, since you are advertising that you verify these things and anyone who reads this review, is going to have the understanding that Angie's List did their research to know without a doubt that this was my number or me that I called Mr. [redacted]. I know Angie is making billions of dollars and doesn't care about little ol' [redacted], but this is serious to us and it's not fair. It's not fair to let someone get on your site and slander someone that we have never talked to, done business with, etc, and let them accuse us of doing a service that we don't do, in a city that we don't work in, in a city that hasn't even had hail or wind damage to their homes since we started [redacted] in 2011, from a number that isn't ours, from a city that we don't work or live in, from a land line that can't be moved from the location it's in. I have plenty of work I need to be doing instead of dealing with this nonsense from Mr. [redacted] or Angie's List. It's really sad that this is how things have started off with your company after registering for the service. It's even sadder that I was never properly notified that we even had this complaint filed so long ago. It's just been sitting there for the world to see and for us to look like sleezy boiler room salesmen. I will not be satisfied until someone shows me documentation either that we made this call, that we telemarket(past or present), or the review is removed from your site. I will be happy with ANY of the 3 solutions. Just do what you advertised and verify it was me if you aren't going to remove it. That's all I ask!I've attached a copy of the complaint for the Revdex.com file. It clearly shows the number Mr. [redacted] said called him, and if the Indiana Revdex.com office calls the Nashville Revdex.com office, they can show proof of our phone numbers for the business we've had listed in the last 5 years, none of which are the number that called him.
Regards,
Aaron [redacted]

our company. I apologize for the delay in my response. On 3/22/2016, Mr. [redacted] and Mr. [redacted] electronically agreed to advertise with Angie’s List for one year per the attached agreement. We require each prospective advertiser to sign a contract outlining the services Angie’s List will render, the relevant categories and the ad rate a service provider must pay for these services. Each contract includes a standard cancellation fee of 35% of the remaining balance of the agreement.  Our advertising can never guarantee lead generation or a certain number of phone calls per week; instead it guarantees placement on the website. We have reviewed our sales process and customer service interactions with Mr. [redacted]. In light of any misunderstanding or customer service issues over the duration of his advertising, we will consider his advertising contract cancelled as of 4/27/16 and have agreed to waive our standard Early Termination Fee for the contract. In terms of the portion of his advertising term that already ran, Mr. [redacted]’s advertisement was running as agreed and these payments were due for services rendered. Any payment for services after 4/27/16 will be refunded back to Mr. [redacted], but no refund will be issued for the previous month. In short, I sincerely apologize that this customer is disappointed with their experience with Angie’s List. We strive to provide top-notch customer service, and would welcome another chance to work with Ms. [redacted]’s business. Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. Please let me know if we can provide any further information.  Kind regards, Jesse [redacted]Angie’s List

regarding complaints filed against our company.  I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Mr. [redacted] for the frustration this process has caused.  Mr. [redacted] purchased an offer from the company Armstrong Landscaping on 3/29/15.  We do have a 30 day refund policy that is included in the details of the deal purchased.  We are sorry if Mr. [redacted] did not see this information.  We have refunded Mr. [redacted] in the amount of $199.00. I find it regrettable that we left Mr. [redacted] feeling he had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com. We strive to provide top-notch service to our members.      Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. complaints filed against our company.    I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Ms. [redacted] for any confusion regarding her membership.   All of our memberships default to an automatic renewal. Our auto renewal program was implemented as a result of member feedback indicating it would be convenient to renew without being required to call or mail in a request to do so. We acknowledge that with every improvement, we run the risk of offending a small portion of our members. Some people, caught off guard when their renewal goes through, clearly do not benefit from this intended convenience. Because of this, Angie’s List strives to make sure that each member has the opportunity to learn about the program prior to paying for a membership. We also email members prior to the renewal date to notify them of the upcoming charge.  I apologize if Ms. [redacted] somehow missed this email notification, which was sent to the email address on file: [redacted].    Ms. [redacted] initially joined Angie’s List on 7/6/2015. Ms. [redacted] agreed to automatic renewal on her account when she joined.  Her membership also informs her that her account will be automatically renewed on the date that ends her current term.    With that being said, Ms. [redacted]’s refund of $16.99, effectively cancelling her membership, was processed on 8/22/2017 per her request.  Angie’s List seeks to offer top-notch customer service.  I apologize that we left Ms. [redacted] feeling that she had no other option than to contact the Revdex.com.   Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. Please let me know if we can provide any further information.    Kind regards,   Jesse M[redacted] Angie’s List

[redacted] Re: Complaint Case # [redacted]   [redacted],   Thank you for the opportunity to address Ms. [redacted]’s complaint response.   On 4/20/2016, Ms. [redacted] electronically agreed to advertise with Angie’s List for one year. We require each prospective advertiser to sign a contract outlining the services Angie’s List will render, the relevant categories and the ad rate a service provider must pay for these services. Each contract includes a standard cancellation fee of 35% of the remaining balance of the agreement.   Angie’s List will acknowledge that the membership options have changed, which will only result in more leads provided to the companies who are invested in Angie’s List.  Angie’s List has kept the same paid membership base and increased the number of daily member joins exponentially.  The increased amount of traffic to the Angie’s List website will only increase the opportunity for Ms. [redacted]’s business to generate leads through their advertising campaign with Angie’s List.   Ms. [redacted]’s credit card was charged for the cancellation and later refunded.  We have now invoiced Ms. [redacted] for the funds owed to Angie’s List.  She advised that she received an invoice from our collections department providing her with the total amount owed.   In short, I sincerely apologize that this customer is disappointed with their experience with Angie’s List. regarding complaints filed against our company.   I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Ms. [redacted] for any confusion or frustration regarding her membership and her preferred methods of cancellation.   Ms. [redacted] purchased a one-year membership to Angie’s List in 2011 and has been a member who renewed annually every year.  All of our annual memberships purchased online default to automatically renew for one year at a time at the end of their originally purchased term.  This is presented both in the membership agreement which must be signed prior to using our website, but also in our new member informational email, and in an email we sent shortly before the time of renewal.  There should have been other emails, as well, letting her know that as a long-term member, she was receiving our new Gold membership (which sells for $99.99/yr) for her original price, which worked out to $29.00 per year.  I apologize if Ms. [redacted] experienced issues with our chat feature on the website.  I do want to confirm that we received an email request from Ms. [redacted] today, 7/29/2016, requesting to cancel her membership.   As Ms. [redacted] has requested, I have set her membership so it will not renew at the end of her current term, which expires on 10/30/2016.  Ms. [redacted] will still be able to use her membership through this expiration date.  Should Ms. [redacted] choose to renew as a member again in the future, she should know that we actually do have many ways to cancel one’s membership, including calling (866) 625-5478, emailing us at [email protected], or even chatting with our customer service on our website.   I find it regrettable that we left Ms. [redacted] feeling she had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com. We strive to provide top-notch service to our members. We do now offer a free membership option if she only occasionally needs to look up information on providers.      Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. apologize for the extreme delay in my response. I apologize for the frustration Ms. [redacted] mentions in her complaint.   Angie’s List allows consumers to post comments regarding experiences they have had with area companies.  Angie’s List is a passive conduit for these comments, meaning the content is wholly supplied by our consumer members.  Members are required to attest to the review confirmation statement before submitting each review.  Without that unique attestation accompanying a review, it cannot be submitted to the website.  Assuming that our members are willing to attest to the truthfulness of each report, we allow positive and negative reports to be submitted to our forum.  We do have processes in place if a company notifies us that they do not recognize the name and address of a member associated with a review on their company.  We will reach out to the member that submitted the review in an attempt to confirm that review at the request of the service provider.  We did reach out to the member in question.  Our member responded to our requests by confirming that their review was intended for a different company.  Our IT staff are in the process of moving the review over to the correct profile. I find it regrettable that we left Ms. [redacted] feeling no other recourse than to complain to the Revdex.com. We strive to provide top-notch service to all companies on our list, regardless of whether they’ve chosen to advertise with us.   Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint, and please let me know if we can provide any further information. our company. I apologize for the delay in my response.   Mr. [redacted] agreed to advertise with Angie’s List, but we agree that there was some misinformation presented during the sales process, and so we will agree to waive our standard Early Termination Fee of 35%, which is included in every signed contract.  As Mr. [redacted]’s request to cancel his advertisement was not immediately honored, we will also refund his March payment, which was deducted while we were still processing the cancellation.    We did want to work with Mr. [redacted]’s company to help resolve any issues and reasons for cancellation, but we have ended our advertising relationship at his request.   In short, I sincerely apologize that this customer is disappointed with their experience with Angie’s List. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
We totally disagree with the business response. We purchased this service from Angies List. We have never had any relationship with the third party provider. It is unreasonable to expect us to have any influence over getting a refund when we have not paid them directly. We expect Angies List to resolve this problem.

start by offering a sincere apology to Ms. [redacted] for any confusion regarding her cancellation request.   Ms. [redacted] contacted Angie’s List on 6/14/2016 to request instructions on how to cancel her upcoming automatic renewal.  Ms. [redacted] was provided with instructions on how to cancel her membership, as she requested.  I apologize for any confusion regarding the cancellation, however Ms. [redacted] did not request to cancel her membership at that time.  She only asked for instructions on how to cancel her membership.  All Angie’s List members receive email notifications of their upcoming automatic renewal prior to their membership being renewed.   With that being said, I have moved forward with Ms. [redacted]’s request to cancel her membership and refund her recent renewal fees in the amount of $59.99 to her PayPal account.  I would also like to apologize for any difficulties Ms. [redacted] may have experienced with the website and submitting her cancellation request.   I find it regrettable that we left Ms. [redacted] feeling she had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com. company. As you may know, Angie’s List allows consumers to post comments regarding experiences they have had with area companies.  Angie’s List is a passive conduit for these comments, meaning the content is wholly supplied by our consumer members.  Because other consumers rely on the statements made by each member, we require each and every member to sign the following statement before submitting a report:* I confirm that the information contained in this Service Evaluation Form (i) is true and accurate and (ii) represents my actual first-hand experience, or experience which I am authorized to discuss. I acknowledge and understand that Angie's List is relying upon the accuracy of the information in order to serve other members. I confirm that I do not work for, am not in competition with, or am not in any way related to the service provider in this report.Assuming that our members are willing to attest to the truthfulness of each report, we allow positive and negative reports to be submitted to our forum.  We do not remove reports at the request of service providers.  Rather, we allow each service provider to respond to any reports they receive, to share their point of view. Specifically, Angie’s List does not act in the capacity of judge or jury. Rather we are a conduit through which information is allowed to pass. Thus, the court of public opinion is able to decide which argument has merit. In this instance, the member who wrote his review did find the email in question in his “spam” folder, and voluntarily reached out to Angie’s List to ask that his review be deleted.  As a result, we have removed the review at the member’s request.  I find it regrettable that we left Mr. [redacted] feeling no other recourse than to complain to the Revdex.com. However, we believe that Angie’s List has followed appropriate procedures meant to ensure we stay as neutral as possible.  We abide by the same rules of neutrality regardless of whether and how much a company spends in advertising; this is the only way we can provide a fair and neutral playing field.  Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint, and please let me know if we can provide any further information.Kind regards,Jesse B[redacted]Angie’s List

our company.  I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Mr. [redacted] for the frustration this process has caused. As Mr. [redacted] mentioned, he purchased an offer from the company Upton Electric on 5/15/2015.  We apologize, but we never received Mr. [redacted]’s email dated 7/9/2015. When Angie’s List first received contact from Mr. [redacted] about problems scheduling on July 27th, we understood that he was still trying to get ahold of the company but wanted to still work with that same company.  As a result, we assumed the scheduling issue had been worked out.We are committed to helping Mr. [redacted] receive the service he paid for, and I have asked a supervisor to reach out to him to help with the deal.  We may be able to find another provider to do the work, or help refund the original deal to help with the purchase of a better fit.  I find it regrettable that we left Mr. [redacted] feeling he had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com. We strive to provide top-notch service to our members.   On 1/24/2017, Mr. [redacted] started to advertise with Angie’s List for one year.  We require each prospective advertiser to electronically sign a contract outlining the services Angie’s List will render, the relevant categories and the ad rate a service provider must pay for these services. Our advertising can never guarantee lead generation or a certain number of phone calls per week; instead it guarantees placement on the website.  We did look back through the sales process, and did not find that there was any misleading or confusing commentary on our end.   Each contract includes a standard cancellation fee of 35% of the remaining balance of the agreement. Mr. [redacted] was notified of the early termination fee during the sales process.  We apologize that we were not able to satisfy Mr. [redacted] during the course of his advertising relationship, as Angie’s List was in constant contact with Mr. [redacted] offering assistance.   The review in question was never used as a bargaining or negotiating tool to encourage Mr. [redacted] to sign a new contract.  Angie’s List is audited annually to confirm that it is upholding both advertisers and non-advertisers to the same standards regarding review verification practices.  Angie’s List audited the review at Mr. [redacted]’s request and determined that the review was properly verified and would remain on Mr. [redacted]’s company.  Mr. [redacted] has made statements regarding this review that are not factual or present in the review.  There is no claim of any criminal activity or statements indicating that his company is harassing the member on a daily basis.    From the information available on Mr. [redacted]’s profile, it would appear that his concern regarding the bank is in relation to his cancellation of his credit card that was on file with Angie’s List.  Since his contract with Angie’s List is set up as a recurring payment for Angie’s List with the bank, the bank automatically updated his credit card with Angie’s List when a new credit card was issued.  Angie’s List works directly with financial institutions to update cancelled or expired credit cards to assure that recurring payments that have been set up by customers do not lapse when a new card is issued.  This is for the convenience of the customer, as it can be difficult to remember to contact every party that a customer has a recurring payment set up.  This allowed Angie’s List to charge Mr. [redacted] for the funds he authorized Angie’s List to charge based on his contract.  To insinuate that Angie’s List would create ‘false accounts’ to defraud the company is inaccurate.   Mr. [redacted] did have multiple Client Success Managers throughout his tenure with Angie’s List.  The reassignment of these Client Success Managers was at the request of Mr. [redacted] on multiple occasions.  Mr. [redacted]’s statement that he was met with ‘aggressiveness and hostility’ is unfortunate, as Angie’s List strives to provide professional customer experiences.  I sincerely apologize that this customer is disappointed with their experience with Angie’s List.  Angie’s List has also agreed that a business relationship with Mr. [redacted] is not beneficial due to issues with professionalism. [redacted] Re: Complaint Case # [redacted]   [redacted],   Thank you for the opportunity to give our side of the story regarding complaints filed against our company.   I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Mr. [redacted] for the lack of resolution to his request.   Mr. [redacted]’s membership fees have been refunded as he requested.  Mr. [redacted] has now requested to have his profile deleted on Angie’s List.  This is the first notice Angie’s List has received from Mr. [redacted] regarding the removal of his information from his account.  At this time, Mr. [redacted]’s personal information has been removed from Angie’s List, including his name, address, phone number, email address, and payment profile.   I find it regrettable that we left Mr. [redacted] feeling he had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com. September 9, 2016   Indianapolis Revdex.com 22 E. Washington Street Indianapolis, IN  46202 Attn. [redacted] Re: Complaint Case # [redacted],   Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention. We appreciate the opportunity to give our side of the story regarding...

complaints filed against our company.                                          ... I’d like to start by offering a sincere apology to Ms. [redacted] for any frustration with her membership, including any emails she may have received that were unwanted after her attempts to unsubscribe.   As Ms. [redacted] has requested, I have taken the necessary steps to ensure that Angie’s List will no longer correspond to her using her email address.  There are prepopulated email lists in place that could result in Ms. [redacted] receiving a few emails within the next week, however any email correspondence after this should not be an issue for Ms. [redacted].  I have removed Ms. [redacted]’s name, address, and email address from her membership records, as requested and cancelled her membership effective immediately.   In short, I sincerely apologize that this customer is disappointed with their experience with Angie’s List. We strive to provide top-notch customer service.   Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to this complaint. Please let me know if we can provide any further information.    Kind regards,   Jesse M[redacted] Angie’s List

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I am shocked though they state I didn't use other means to sort this out even I contacted them several times and had single response 2 weeks later and since PayPal closed my case due to sellers non responsiveness I had no other choice but contact Revdex.com, and only after I emailed copy of my complaint message to Angie's List then they reacted and issued refund.Excellent job, thank you for your help!
Regards,
