Appliance Repair Guys Reviews (60)

I was told it was an $80 service charge, and if they repaired it the service charge would be waved. Well I guess it is $360 for labour because my labour bill was $280.00 for 30 minutes of work.. the time doesn't matter but who charges $360 for labour. It's a washing machine not government taxes.

This companies service charge practices are outrageous.
$290 for a washing machine drain pump service, to a part that was non repairable.
then provide an estimate for replacement $440.00 on a part that would take up to 2 weeks to obtain, when I located the part available locally for $140.00 name brand and new. same day pickup or 2-3 days shipping.
making the repair over $700.00
No wonder this company is not Revdex.com accredited.
consumer beware..............

[redacted] Please be warned that they will do nothing for you but make you pay up front. Then they will never show. [redacted]. I have a pregnant wife and a one year old without clothes because they WON'T show up and fix our washer. PLEASE go to anyone else. As well if you do pay up front, it'll take over 2 weeks for you to get your money back. This is what they say. I was given nothing more than their untrustworthy word I'll get my money back. I will post again if my money is not returned

I really wish I had read some reviews before hiring Appliance Repair Guys.
[redacted]
They ask for $80 just to have the tech show up, he said to make a diagnostic we will have to pay an other $280.
This made us very unhappy but agreed to have the part replaced, against my better judgement , we gave them $460 and after over a week we are still waiting for the part. Called them several times without any results.
We went this morning to their office in Concord, On. and the "customer service manager" wouldn't even open the door to us to present our complaint , she even had the nerve to threaten us with calling the police .
We have absolutely no confidence in them. We will wait until Monday, and if no call has been received , I will present then a complaint.

[redacted]!! Stay away.

They claim to have booked a visit that wasn't cancelled in time and then send collection agencies after you. Even the Collection agency said that they do this all the time and that they are very busy collecting for these [redacted]. I would never use them. They are rude and not real. We made the mistake of calling them, they said that they couldn't come for a week, so we naturally got another shop and cancelled them well in advance. This is how their business works - they have long service availability times so everyone cancels and then they send collection agencies after you. [redacted]. Do yourself a favour and do not call them!

Do not utilize this company for your appliance repair. I don't know how I missed all the bad reviews because I'm usually pretty good about this kinda thing, so I'll do everyone a solid and post a review everywhere I can to make sure no one else experiences this. They seem to charge you flat rates regardless of the issue you have and regardless if they actually diagnose and can fix the problem or not. They charge you $80 for showing up and claim that they'll charge you hourly after that point but regardless if the job takes 10 minutes (which I'm sure they'll attempt to stretch out) or 2 hours, you'll be charged $280+HST (includes the $80 show up fee). This is an astronomical amount of money for diagnosis compared to rival copanies. Now keep in mind that they will claim that this cost is "supposed" to account for any labour to actually FIX the appliance, more on this later. After the labour only diagnosis fee they'll start throwing parts at the appliance at severely marked up prices. This is nothing new, all companies do this, but their margins are HUGE. For example, an $80 part any consumer can buy from a typical walk in appliance repair store will come out to $250-300 from this company. They claim to not charge labour for the installation (it's included in your $280+hst), I did not get this far with them, but have found other reviews indicating that ontop of the astronomical part mark-up some people were actually charged additional labour beyond the $280+hst diagnosis labour. It's not like you get same day delivery and repair and that you are paying for the convenience of them stocking a [redacted] ton of parts for all makes, NO. They order it and find it the same way any consumer would so you'd wait anywhere from a day to 2 weeks for a part if they don't have it in the truck.

Next let me discuss my service technician. He seemed OK at first, was pretty quiet, seemed to take care in what he did, had normal mediocre tools (nothing crazy specialized or efficient and time saving), but my guy spent 75% of his time in my house on the phone on his bluetooth headset. He was on the phone with friends/family member, not with his company. He took multiple calls and was on one call for what seemed like 45 minutes, not saying much, but was just on the phone with someone on the other end saying something every so often. I won't judge I mean this might have been a special case with a child with a condition for example, but regardless this came off as EXTREMELY unprofessional in my eyes. This company claims professional service and seems to charge as such, and sends technicians that do things like this? Common. To make things worse I was with the guy 100% of the time and that still didn't deter him from taking the liberty of freely making and taking non work related phone call. At this point I was under the impression I was being charged hourly, not a flat $280+hst regardless of time spent (found that out much later), so this [redacted] me off even more, because being on the phone while you do something guarantees you'll either take longer to do it or you'll make more mistakes, this is basic Human Performance.

I bet the company justifies these prices based on their high level of service and ability to respond 24/7 etc. Although they have this statement in their "About Us" mission statement: "We provide quality in-home appliance repair services at reasonable prices." At reasonable prices, of course if up to interpretation, but I for one will say that their prices are not reasonable. They are outrageous, not competitive, and the only reason they are still in business, although I'm sure their market share is dropping, is that there are enough uninformed consumers out there that fall into their clever trap every day.

Bottom Line:
This company has huge margins and does not disclose this to its customers before they are "trapped" and the technician begins working on the appliance, after which, unknown to the customer, they will be charged $280+hst regardless of actual time spent. After biting that bullet you will be ripped off again with the massive mark up on parts. Again taking advantage of people's lack of knowledge of what parts should cost approximately.

Many people might read my review as, "boo hoo a customer is complaining that a company is making too much money off of them". Appliance Repair Guys go WAY beyond making a healthy profit, this is flat highway robbery utilizing dirty tactics of withholding critical pricing information and misleading customers.

Our experience was similar to others who gave this company negative reviews. The technicians claimed the repair to our front loading washer would be $280 to fix. As our machine had been working fine previously, we opted to go ahead with the repair and signed the contract. After the technicians installed the new part, they told us that in fact the machine wasn't fixed and that the "real problem" was the display board which would cost $670 plus tax plus labour. We felt [redacted] as the technician had claimed that the $280 part would solve the problem which it didn't. We ended up paying $316 including tax for absolutely nothing. [redacted]

My ** Refrigerator was not cooling. I found their advertisement on line saying that for any issues with ** Appliances call them. Their service technician came, cleaned the extensive frost out of the refrigerator at a charge of $316.40. He said if the problem returns it might need an evaporator fan. He assured me that the fan would be replaced and included in this service charge. I called the next day to tell them that frost was forming again and was told to call back on Monday. The refrigerator began making loud screeching noises and I was advised that the evaporator fan needed to be replaced at a charge of $333.35. The office told me that no service charge was involved but that would be the installed price.
As the service technician had told me the part was $105.00, I checked how much the part would be if ordered. It came to $l0l.84 including tax and delivery.
If they install the evaporator fan, it has a 30 day warranty and their is no guarantee that it will fix the problem. They also requested my credit card up front.
Since the ** Refrigerators are notorious for forming frost I can't take the chance that this will fix the problem. I also feel I have been deceived by Appliance Repair Guys even though my initial impression of their technician was not a bad one,
I would not trust them again.

I have had this company on couple of occasion unfortunately the second time my tenant called them even tough I gave her the name of a different company..and had the same bad experience with them..
They were unable to diagnose the repair,, but the the bill they state that they have looked into different parts and charged me 316$ but my dishwasher still does not work. They do mention on the bill that I need a new motor with a cost of 530$ when I can buy a new dishwasher for this amount or less. When I called customer service and explained the situation, she did not care and said this is how we do business..
Don't ever use this company,, which I had checked the reviews before. Really awful, [redacted] and incompetent technician.

Basically, the same experience as others have reported (I should have checked first!!)
A well rehearsed process that ends up with the customer paying an exorbitant fee for an appliance repair.
Starts with an $80 charge for a service call by 2 servicemen (intimidating) which then escalates to $280 for labour to achieve the fix, plus parts (there's always some)...and at the end of the day, I paid $446 to have a fuse changed on my dishwasher.

Technicians from "Appliance repair guys" tel 905-769-1099 were supposed to come and give me estimate do fix ace maker in our lG refrigerator, in the case If I don't agree to proceed with repair with them I was supposed to pay 80 dollars service charge otherwise pay 280 +tax for the diagnostics and repair + parts.I agreed to pay 315 including tax for labour including service(securing water line using duck tape) and I was told that includes installation of new ice maker. I called [redacted] and found out that ice maker for my fridge cost 177.66 so know what price.
Today they call me with part price and I could not believe it, They want to charge me 525,32 for the part I can get from [redacted] for 177 plus additional charge for installation.
[redacted]

Beware- I was quoted $90 for service call. On arrival, they asked if I wanted them to find the problem. Of course, that is why I called them. He said it would be $320 to check what the issue is with our fridge. He said parts would be extra. That is ludicrous, generally the service call includes diagnosing the problem and then a quote for parts & labor is given. I did not give in to this extortion and he left. I spent $90 for absolutely nothing.

[redacted] $280 just came and looked at the washer less than 30min. Labour charge and parts/installed? Service fee? I don't understand how its possible these people are running business with unethical mind set. [redacted]

Do NOT use this firm. They charge too much ($475 to replace a gas igniter). They have a service call charge $80, labour charge $80 + charge every 10 minute periods! But the mark up on a small part was HUGE. Stay away. I should have first read all the other reviews on them as they are all BAD!

WARNING TO ANYIONE CALLING THIS COMPANY. THEY TELL YOU $80 TO SHOW UP. OK. WHEN THEY ARRIVE THEY SAY $280 FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR. SIGN HERE.

THE TECH TOLD ME HE FIXED THE DRAIN PUMP IN MY DISHWASHER. IT DRAINED WHILE HE WAS THERE. IT DID NOT WORK AFTER HE LEFT. I CALLED THE COMPANY TO ASK FOR A PARTIAL REFUND. THEY SAID NO AS I HAD SIGNED THE CONTRACT. AFTER COMPLAING FOR TWO WEEKS I GET ANOTHER CALL SAYING THEY WILL REPLACE PUMP FOR ANOTHER $350. OBVIOSULY I COULD HAVE BOUGHT ANOTHER DW FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY WANTED ME TO SPEND.

FEEL LIKE I WAS SET UP.

We called Appliance Repair Guysto fix our dryer. I did not realize at the time that the dryer was less than a year old and still under warrenty. The dryer was not heating up and taking a very long time to dry the clothes. A repair man can promptly. [redacted]. We authoroized a repair to a spark plug. During this repair, the serviceman advised that when he changed the spark plug the mother board blew and now we would have to replace that at a cost of approxmiately $500 for the part. labour costs were not included. I was never advised that changing a spark plug, there is also a risk of blowing out the motherboard, causing an even further repair. We told the repairman that we would pay the $80 for the service call plus the cost of the plug but felt that the $317.00 chage was not justified considering the mother board was broken as a result. We then ended up calling the store we boutght it from, even without our receipt, and they sent a tech out promply and told us the only thing that was needed was to pull the dryer out from the wall because the dryer hose was being squished against the wall and air was not going through properly. They did not charge us anything. We then went back to the Applicance Repair Guys with a letter from **'s repair man stating that the only issue with the dryer was that it was too close to the wall.
We asked Appliance Repair Guys why there technician told us a repair was needed, when it was not and why their trained service men would not check the dryer hose, before doing unnecesary repairs, resulting in further damage. We were told when they do a repair, it does not guarantee it will actually fit the problem. I asked Applicance Repair Guys for a receipt with a breakdown of labour and parts charges. They would not provide this. We went back and forth with the Appliance Repair Guys whose best offer was to take about $80 off the bill. They would not even split the charge with us. I would warn anyone about using this company. Who would use a comany that does not guareantee their work (as I found out after) and whose service techs do unnecessary repairs, costing their customers unnecessary expense. the repair that actually fixed the problem cost us nothing- fortunately for ** and the store we bought it from, we will always by loyal customers.

Do not use this company!!! I only wish I had read the reviews prior to having Appliance Repair Guys attend my residence. I also was told to pay $280.00 if I wanted my stove fixed and parts would be extra but I foolishly signed the work order because I needed my stove fixed. 20 minutes later my stove is working, the "technician" knew I was suspicious and I asked to see what he had done. He said something about a problem with the motherboard but couldn't show me what he had fixed saying "I should be grateful he fixed my stove." I contacted customer service and was told that I signed the work order...there was nothing they could/would do.

Purely shady business. Still in business thanks to google. They said 80 dollar fee. Then they charge 319 To my credit card without permission. Like all the other reviewers the washer still doesn't work and they want another 700 dollars to fix it.

I wish I had looked up this shady company on Revdex.com last week. This past Friday, I had a "technician" come by to quote me on my dishwasher, which is leaking water. He said he would have to take the dishwasher out from under the counter and he quoted me $280 for labour. Any needed parts would be extra.

I laughed and said I could get a brand new dishwasher for four or five hundred dollars, so thanks but no thanks. After he left, I was shocked at how much he had quoted me. I was expecting to pay maybe $150 (including the service call charge) at the most.

But after reading all these negative reviews on this site, I realize it is just this company's standard modis operandi. Quote the customer at least $280, even if the appliance isn't worth the amount of the quote! All in all, I'm glad this only cost me the $80 service call and I would advise anyone to not waste their time and money on this company.
