AR 500 Armor Reviews (47)

I recently purchased from ar500. I own multiple items but had a issue with my last order. The customer service manager ([redacted] took care of the issue with expedient follow up to ensure my needs were met. This is a product that you can't buy after a situation or incident. It's a investment. Knowing that the customer service will support you after a purchase is key. I would recommend you invest in the protection of your vital organs by putting a ar500 plate over those vitals.a little steal saves a broken heart....ribs, spleen, lungs and liver.

AR500 is a great business!! They helped me with all my questions, and were super friendly!!!! I would highly recommend them to all my friends. Great experience I would give them a 20 out of 10!

We apologize for any inconvenience we have caused. We have had unforeseen set backs in our shipping department. We do our best to update you properly, an are working overtime to get this matter corrected. If you would have informed us that you wanted to cancel an...

receive refund we would have processed it for you at that time. We will get your order canceled an issue your refund, it will take about 3-5 business day to process back into your account.

Ordered a bunch of gear from this company. There was some confusion about my mailing address because I needed to change it when I was deployed (no notice). After I realized my parents hadn't received the package, I wrote the company about it. Within 2 hours, they had responded to my query, determined what had happened, immediately rebuilt the package, and provided me with some monetary reparation (all on their own volition). The new package was delivered in under a week. I don't normally write reviews but it has been over a year since I have dealt with a company that actively tried to correct any sort of problem on their own initiative. The fact that there was no muss or fuss, and rebuilt my package with an included monetary loss on their own shows a focus on customer service. To me, that means a lot... As it shows a business integrity and ethic that too many companies (or brands) nowadays snub (especially in markets such as this). I will be a repeat customer, and will have no reservations pushing my friends looking for gear to them. A+ customer service.

I am a relative newcomer to the purchasing of firearms and related products from the internet as I've recently gotten more into the customizing end of the hobby. I am a general civilian, not law enforcement, military, or anything like that, just a regular hobbyist with perhaps a touch of "prepper" syndrome, but moreso a pride in exercising my second amendment (related) rights and the internal feeling of duty to do so lest they be taken away from me, my son, or his children, and so forth. For this reason, I didn't really have a personal source of recommendation or anything regarding sources of materials, but have largely relied upon the reviews of others.

I first was introduced to AR500 through a google search, but then heard the brand talked about on the "Practically Tactical" podcast which independently commented on its being a good source for body armor plates. They had a "body armor" episode where they talk about it, would recommend listening to that too.

I went to the AR500 website and it was pretty easy to select the plates I wanted to fill the plate carrier (which I got elsewhere prior to buying the plates). Like anyone, I scoured google for a promo code but couldn't find one that still worked, though there were several in the 10%-20% that appeared to have been run in the past but expired. Always looking for a deal, I initially held off on the purchase and just visited the site every so often waiting for a promo (which seems to be usually around the holidays based on the names of the expired codes).

After a few weeks, a "New Years" promo finally hit (big banner on the front page) for 20% all armor plates. Jumped right in an bought two curved Level III plates, one for the front and one for the back. The site said a shipping lead time of approx. four (4) weeks. Paid $12 for shipping but that seems fair as the plates are heavy, I've seen other firearm/ammo dealers charge way more, and this isn't something I can really walk down to the store and buy anyways so shipping is just unavoidable anyway. Heck, if they didn't charge for shipping they'd just build the cost into the item's price anyway, every business does that obviously.

Bought plates approx. Dec. 27-28 or so, and despite my expectation of the wait time, they actually arrived in the first week of January. I recall that when they were sent I received an automatic tracking e-mail via Fed-Ex which was nice. The store itself doesn't have a prolific order confirmation process, it was more like a simple page following the payment indicating it was accepted, then I saw the charge appear and got an basic e-mail saying the charge was received, and the shipping confirmation really was just an automated e-mail from Fedex giving me tracking info for it. The process is low frills, but effecient and it did work fine, and its not like one should expect "superstore" processing from a company of its size anyway. (You might watch the videos on the site, it does show the factory/dist. center).

So as I mentioned earlier, plates shipped way sooner than expected.

When they arrived, they were packaged nicely, tightly packed with appropriately sized, professionally looking box. Individual plates were in plastic covering with packing paper between them. These are my first plates and I'm not an officianado of course, but overall quality exceeded my expectations and they seemed professionally done to be sure. The weight of them, being steel, and the clean lines and uniform finish makes them feel worthwhile definitely.

Now, my experience was not issue free. Upon pulling out the plates, though impressed with the cost, quality, and timeliness, one of the plates I received was flat as opposed to curved (to contour to body). I initially had quite a sinking feeling as, despite my satisfaction with what I did receive, it wasn't exactly what I had ordered and I didn't want to feel like I would need to "make do" with what I got that, though functional, didn't feature the incremental benefit of a curved back plate.

The following day, though I had intended to call, I ultimately e-mailed the company at the support e-mail address on their website. I asked them to call or e-mail me back, I just e-mailed up front so I could attach a photo of my invoice (which was in the box) and the plates I received in the box to prove the error.

Probably within half an hour I received a call from their customer support supervisor who introduced himself and apologized for the mistake he read about in my e-mail. He told me that he was relatively new to the operation but that customer experience was key to them and that the company was going to make it right no matter what. He told me that I was to keep everything I had received, (which was everything except one of the plates was flat and not curved), and he immediately would be shipping me a replacement plate, and with additional upgrades that I had expressed interest in but hadn't even purchased in the first place. In other words, I got to keep the extra flat plate and they sent me a better plate than what I had even ordered in the first plate, all in the spirit of ensuring that I would consider doing business with them next time around. I got the replacement plate and just am so pleased now I chose to buy from these guys (particularly on sale).

I am genuinely impressed with these guys and their product. Firearms and these types of safety products being a niche business, but also one a lot of people can't necessarily drive down to a local shop and buy, I do rely a lot on internet reviews to ensure I'm dealing with reputable people because, at bottom, this stuff isn't cheap and its something that has to work if called upon. I would definitely recommend this product to others.

I do note the presence of the negative reviews on this Revdex.com site. To be honest, I hadn't reviewed them prior to my purchase because the overall quality of the AR500 website itself, recommendations by the Practically Tactical podcast speakers (they have an episode on body armor), and the videos of the owner and factory of AR500 didn't have me worried up front about the legitimacy of the company.

The customer service rep, (Edward who I remember as he e-mailed me to follow up to ensure my replacement was fine and all) did mention that he was motivated to ensure that every customer was completely satisfied because he was cognizant of the Revdex.com ratings he'd inherited as the new customer service manager.

Let me say this, I didn't go to "Revdex.com" to review products I was about to buy. Seems to me, the only people that have a "bad" experience go to the "Revdex.com". In other words, the "Revdex.com" is where people go to post a negative reviews of companies as in "I'm mad at company X for whatever reason, I'm going to report them to the "Revdex.com". Contrastingly, nobody says, "wow, what a great experience, let's post a positive review on the Revdex.com".

My only point is this, the reviews on here, while maybe reflective of every negative experience, probably don't capture any of the many who've been very satisfied with the product and service (like me) and might very well have been from the "early days" of what appears to be a growing company. This is not to argue as to the truth of the other reviews (I don't know those people or their experiences), but only to add that things probably have changed if they have merit true because I did have a great experience. I only decided to come to Revdex.com to post a positive review because Edward had mentioned some anxiety about wanting to convince me that the company was in fact committed to doing everything possible to ensure customer satisfaction. Given the treatment I received, it only seemed fair to counter some of the negative reviews on here which might otherwise dissuade persons from working with a company that I've been satisfied with.

As a side note, I have to mention my standing appreciation for the laws of our country that don't presently ban the sale to and possession of "enhanced" plates by (non-felon) civilians despite the lunacy of 2014 and 2015 congressional bills introduced by one of California's reps which intended to ban them on a go forward basis (though purporting to grandfather existing plates and their owners) (this is not legal advice, does vary state-to-state, do your own research, I don't know you or your circumstances, I am not qualified to give you a legal opinion anyway). Seems to me the gun-grabbers have sought to ban AR15s on the basis that they are actually being used to kill everyday people in all too frequent, pretty much impossible to predict, despicable acts of violence, but..., at the same time have sought to ban ballistic plates solely intended to stop the penetration of AR15 bullets because only people in the military or law enforcement have a "legitimate" reason to having a vest sitting in their trunk to protect themselves against AR15/AK (5.56/7.62x39mm) ammunition? C'mon man.

AR500, I really liked both the product and the service, ended up very happy with my experience with them, I do recommend them based on my experience, and I personally intend to use them again when I need plates (most likely as gifts for others obviously as I'm set).

I still have not...

received any package and my original purcahse date was 1/7/16.  The company still has not even shipped the package yet.

I ordered a package deal of a plate carrier and plate, at time I placed the order it was in stock and had posted in green 2 week lead time, which gives the impression they are ahead 2 weeks hence the green and the word lead, I placed the ordered only to find out that was false its a 2 week wait time. no big deal, the 2 weeks went by and on the projected day of the shipment it changed to 4 week wait time, I called earlier this week he said it wasn't really in stock as shown at the time but he would send it Tuesday and I will have it Friday and it still hasn't even been shipped, so here I am almost a month later with my package not even shipped because they didn't have it in stock as shown, big problem because they already got my money out of my account and I keep getting the run around through emails and phone calls, I expect from a business to at least have an item in inventory, or even begin to ship it, then get your money, rather than not having it at all and taking money.

The response does not address any of the corrective actions requested. The discount that I should be offered for my experience should at least be similar to the discount offered other customers in law enforcement or military get without going through many broken promises, lies, excuses, and delays. Furthermore, nothing is being done to address their false marketing nor deceptive business practices. AR500 needs to step up, accept responsibility for their failures, and make it right with their customers.

“I ordered armor from AR500 Armor Oct 25 for a Christmas present. It had a lead time of 7 weeks. The week of Christmas I called after getting no responses to my emails. I was told they had had some problems and that it would ship the week of Jan. 5. I called Jan 6 as their was no activity showing on my order. I was told they had the plates but not the carrier and they would get that in 2 more weeks. I cancelled the order and was told it would be 8 days for a refund check to release.”

I placed an order with Ar500 Armor 12/7/15 for my brother who is law enforcement.

CT State Law only allows Face to Face Transactions on armor for civilians, Military and Law Enforcement can buy armor with no restrictions. Ar500 Staff had me jumping through hoops. to then tell me that all I sent them did not work and they are not shipping the issue. I asked to speak to managers even the founder no one would return my calls, Finally I called in and had a manager which was well aware who I was but did not feel like reaching out to resolve issues So I let her know how unprofessional she was she transfer me to the shipping manager who

was just as unprofessional as she was and said she has called me and left messages and when I expressed she didn't call me she went on to tell me that (that was not here nor there anyways) and continued to disrupt me as I'm talking to get her point across which made no sense what so ever due to the fact that I followed all her staff asked of me. at the end I asked for my money back she went on to tell me she would give me a gift card for my brother to make the purchase. I refused not because we don't want the Product but because they were irresponsible and handled this matter unprofessionally. Now I Need to see if I get my Refund !!!

it is now 6 weeks and the initial advertisement noted "up to 4 weeks"
the company is now not responding to my online inquiries or e-mails (sent an online message and an email with no response).
this company has held my payment (interest free mind you) for 6 weeks?
I cannot get a...

commitment on delivery?clearly something does not seem right and I am deme ding specific performance on this order.  The advertisement on the website said "estimated up to 4 weeks". That lead me to believe that within 4 weeks the product would be shipped.  Additionally, the false advertising is now even more concerning given that "Thomas" from customer support has now indicated AR500 may not even begin working on my order for another 2 weeks?

[redacted] is full of people complaining (yes some people have waited much much longer) but, the public advertisement is false and misleading and there was not patent disclaimer indicated regarding the massive backlog this company has?
I want the product but, honestly considering refund.  My fear is these is will want to take 6 weeks to get our funding returned. Deceptive practices seem clear here.  A lack of customer focus obvious and frankly the lack of business acumen and an inability to adapt, adjust and overcome does not seem fair to the consumer who is misled.

The website sta[redacted] the product would ship within three business days.  I am sorry your company is backlogged, but that is not the consumer's issue.  If you advertise three day shipping, you need to abid by it, or compensate the consumer for the delays on your end. I think a patrial shipment is a fair resolution.

complete lies after waiting on hold for a hour she was very rude and then hung up on me. Secondly they would only reply to my email after I Contacted the Revdex.com. Now I know why they have a F rating with the Revdex.com.
I don't want any product from this company or want any more emails. Thank you Revdex.com ??????????????

[redacted],

I apologize for the inconvenience as when we spoke we did confirm we will be resuming shipping the 3rd week of March, as your order was currently help up by the trauma pads. We have in countered a back log in our shipping department which is why partial shipping was not...

offered at this time, as we would have to offer that option for every customer which would then cause further delay with the volume of orders we current have being comple[redacted]. Again we apologize for the delay any any inconvenience this may have caused.

Matt,
I apologize for the inconvenience as we requested your package back to verify the contents and ensure you received the proper items and order. We are working on getting this package shipped back out immediately. Again we apologize for the delay and the frustration.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I did receive the product 3 says after submitting the complaint. Still waiting on another.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

James,

I am showing we had email correspondence on the 11th of March, and I had explained the flood of emails we have received which has cause the delay in response time. You did respond to that with "Excellent! Thank you very much for the update!"  Your order has entered the packing queue an tracking was provided as well I had explain our current shipping backlog and as well refunded your shipping. Please email us at [redacted] if you have any further concerns or questions.

I payed for my item then I then I received a email that my order was not confirmed but my credit card was charged by the company .I could not get anyone to jelp me online so I decided to call they're customer service line to see if they can help me resolve the issue after being on hold for a hour the representative on the other line hung up on me as soon as they put me on the line I called PayPal and was luckily able to cancel my order but felt ar500 has very poor customer service skills

Cliff,

I do apologize for the delay, as we have had unforeseen set backs in our shipping department. Due to this it had caused lead times for product leaving to be extended. I can understand the frustration, and by no means want you to feel that we are trying to mislead you. This is the first time we have ever had a set back to this capacity. If you would like a refund on the product we can accommodate that for you.

I placed 2 different orders with them. The first was a EPIKs. They told me 3 weeks. After 8 weeks they sent me a shipping notice and nothing ever showed up. I checked the tracking after a week and showed the label was created, but hadn't shipped. I called them upset and after getting nowhere I told them I wanted to cancel both of my orders. I spoke with Cece and they wanted me to take In Store credit which I refused. She went and spoke to her manager and the authorized to cancel. I week later my first order showed up and they never refunded my credit card. I went online and neither order has been cancelled. On the second order it is 3 weeks over due with no response or an update. Please do not order from them!
