Backwater Reptiles Reviews (%countItem)

Excellent experience, received my 2 turtles very next morning. Very active n healthy looking yellow belly turtles. Highly recommend Backwater Reptiles.

My frogs came so quick and in great condition. I thought maybe since things are delayed because of the coronavirus it would take longer but they shipped out the same day even when I put in the wrong credit card information and had to fix it. Highly recommend! My white’s tree frogs are so happy and adjusting well.

This company sent me a lizard that a purchased with in a hour of receiving the lizard it dead I took lots of pictures of dead lizard and emailed then to back water I sent them over 20 emails they state on their website if you send pictures of the dead animal they will refund or replace the animal this company is fraudulent they are sending sick animals and they do not honor there polices.

We have responded to this customer many times. This review is completely false. The customer is either not checking their email or refusing to respond to our multiple replies.

Customer Response • Aug 21, 2020

I am rejecting this response because: I have been exchanging 23 emails with this business and provided them pictures of the dead lizard they are not being an honest business

I did not recieve the product I was supposed to. When I tried to reach out about the problem I was met with snarky horrible customer service and remarks.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Aug 12, 2020

We have continually assisted this customer with his original claim. He failed to provide the proper picture and we are currently waiting for the updated picture he sent only 10 mins ago, to be reviewed. This "Concern" is bit hasty as claims need more than a just few minutes to be reviewed/ investigated.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Aug 13, 2020

We do again apologize if the Ameiva he received was not what he was expecting. However as already mentioned babies are 6 inches , sub-adults are around 10-16 inches in size and adults around 17-24 inches in size. His Amevia is within this sub-adult spectrum just more on the medium size listed based on the industry standard of measuring from snout to tip of tail, therefore he does not qualify for a refund being he received what was ordered.Because this species can range in size, we put med-large since these are live animals and are not all one size----It can vary.

Customer Response • Aug 13, 2020

I am rejecting this response because:

False advertisment. It should have then read juvenile medium/large adult. Not just medium large. Its deseaving and false advertisment is a crime.

Sent me a dead tarantula and wouldn’t believe me even after I sent pictures. Never sent me a new tarantula or a refund even though they have a live arrival guarantee.

I ordered a leopard gecko and the shipping was more than the the lizard. the lizard that I ordered came sick with stick tail or cryptosporidiosis.

I had ordered a chameleon
from here cause it had good reviews.WRONG! WORST COMPANY IVE EVERY USED! HAVE NO COMPASSION! Tried to contact them by phone they don't accept phone calls but only email contact. My baby had arrived DEAD! suppose to have be packaged properly but nope poor thing died to their neglected! Worst customer service ever!

+1

Ordered 2 babies and they arrived wonderfully packaged and alive. Customer service was great and they answered all my concerns in a timely manner! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I had a few issues with UPS, however my little Kilgara arrived so well packed and comfortable considering the incredible volume of packages UPS delivers daily. They made sure my little baby boy arrived without an issue.

I hadn’t seen the copious amount of negative reviews before buying, and now I am unfortunately one of them. I purchased a medium-large red Uromastyx - the website said they were in stock. The next day I was told there were no red ones, would a yellow one work? to which I agreed, as I told them I don’t care about color, I just wanted my lizard. When he arrived, it was obvious he was a juvenile and is very small, so I did not get a medium-large lizard. And that’s fine. However, after a few days, he was acting very lethargic. $100+ for a vet visit and medicine not long after. The vet informed us that he was severely dehydrated and most likely had an infection. He perked up after being on the medicine for about two weeks. However, now he is acting lethargic once more (even worse this time), refuses to eat, and sometimes acts drunk and hobbles around. I highly doubt he’s going to live much longer, and it breaks my heart. I paid $145 for them to send me a sick baby animal. I can’t bear seeing him like this. Please, do your research - if there’s no bad reviews on a breeder’s website, there’s probably a reason why. They pick and choose which reviews they display.

The last correspondence we ever received from this customer was 3 weeks ago when she asked for advice on how to help her new animal acclimate. Being that we never received any type of response, yo can understand we are shocked to see this. I'm not sure how the customer expects us to assist her with an issue she never brought to our attention? If the customer would like assistance with her claim, we recommend reaching out to us so we can assist her.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Aug 04, 2020

As previously stated, if the customer is looking for assistance with her claim, I recommend to reach out to us directly so we can assist her with her claim.

Customer Response • Aug 04, 2020

I am rejecting this response because: They refuse to answer my questions. They insist all bad reviews are simply ‘fabricated’; what does one gain from complaining that their beloved pet has died? They will only help if the animal is dead, and completely ignored the part where I said he was still alive but incredibly sick. I provided proof of vet bills, they did not acknowledge them. As of now, they are refusing to answer any more of my questions or help me, and said that we will be “parting ways”. It is incredibly unprofessional. They will send you dead/sick animals, and will make it seem like it is wholly your fault and will always provide some excuse as to why they are completely in the clear. I have attached our exchange above.

I love these guys they always answer you right back and they really care about the animals. They will not sent them if the temperature is not right or if the trip will harm the animals. My house will be full of their reptiles and amphibian's before the year is out. Thanks guys

I ordered a tortoise from them on July 4th and never received it yet I have tried to contact them by phone and email and get no reply from them

Backwater Reptiles Response • Jul 29, 2020

We already told this customer (various times) that his order was canceled due to his lack of response? He placed his order and then never responded to any of the multiple emails or answered the various phone calls therefore the order was considered Fraud and voided. I'm not sure how much more clear we can be unfortunately.

Arrived exactly when they said he would, and he is happy and healthy. We spent the last two days setting up his habitat/feeding his crickets, and getting ready for his arrival so it went so smoothly. I am really impressed and very happy with our new family member Chameleon. Thank you so much!

Beautiful animals, well packed, I will be doing business again

I ordered 2 lizards which both arrived dead. I ensured that I was home when UPS arrived so that there was no delay in receiving the animals as packaged and mailed by the seller.
They arrived dead as aforementioned at which time I immediately notified the the seller who asked for proof in the form of a picture of the dead animals placed upon the receipt. This picture was taken and emailed immediately and again a refusal to refund to purchase price.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Jul 24, 2020

This customer received two animals that arrived deceased. He is located in the state of Nevada where the temperature has been well into the 100's for the past few weeks. Upon ordering with us, every customer agrees to our Guarantee Terms (this customer included) which state that their Live Arrival Guarantee is null and void when their zip code temperature reaches above 90F. With that being said, we even still offered to work with the customer and offered a solution however he declined. He does not qualify for a full refund or free replacement at this times due to his high temperature and nullified Guarantee Terms. We are still happy to work with the customer if he changes his mind which we have informed him various times.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Jul 27, 2020

As already stated, could a representative from Revdex.com please directly contact us to state what it is they are looking for in this case to move forward with closing it. This customer admittedly does not qualify for our Guarantee Terms as he showed you, therefore he does not qualify for a refund at this time. We have already offered to still work with the customer as well even with the voided Terms. Again, please advise what else we can do from here.

Customer Response • Jul 27, 2020

I am rejecting this response because:

The ongoing attempted responses from Backwater Reptiles have answered none of the stated allegations. Moreover, their responses do not address a single assertion. They grossly misrepresent the allegations and are now slanderously stating factual inaccuracies to my assertions. Moreover, I again challenge them to demonstrate anywhere in my responses where I stand corrected. I will again also attach my prior response and fully expect them to offer a point by point, and paragraph by paragraph rebuttal. The response from Backwater Reptiles is again as expected highly unacceptable and represents complete disregard of the facts as stated and will thus be reiterated. Their shipping page as attached in full says absolutely nothing about high temperatures nor shipping techniques. In addition, their response does not address a single issue in any of the forgoing paragraphs which will again be reiterated. They obviously are unable to respond to their California Penal Code Section 597 violations issues. They obviously are unable to respond to refusal to accept the responsibility of humanely shipping the animals thereby leading to their death. They obviously are unable to respond to the factorganizations every day in Las Vegas such as PetSmart, Petco, and LLLReptile & Supply receive hundreds of humanely shipped animals that safely arrive at their stores despite the heat and enjoy 5-star ratings, as opposed to the negative rating of 62% for Backwater Reptiles noted on Trust Pilot reviews, which is a nationally respected review site. This is aside from another 47 Revdex.com complaints against Backwater Reptiles over the past 3 years. They obviously are unable to respond to the fact that they claim to be reptile experts who are thus astutely aware of the risks to animals upon inhumane shipping techniques, which are not discussed anywhere on their shipping page. (attached below). As formerly discussed, it is highly appropriate to refer Backwater Reptiles for criminal investigation pertaining to the various animal cruelty statutes they clearly violate against California Penal Code Section 597.I have again attached their SHIPPING page for their own review and for the Revdex.com to meticulously review. It should be keenly noted that their shipping techniques are not discussed nor is there any mention of the temperature issue that they elude to on this page.First, absolving themselves of the responsibility to safely and humanely transport animals in a fashion contrary to California Penal Code Section 597 regulations is absurd. Nowhere on their web site does it state that the animals would be placed in an inhumane 5-inch clear plastic soup container with 1 small hole which was then then tightly packed inside of a 6-inch Styrofoam box, taped closed, labeled perishable, and then mailed without regard to animal welfare or the heat. Refusal to accept the responsibility of humanely shipping the animals thereby leading to their death from heat injury would be akin to an airline refusing to acknowledge their responsibility for a pet that freezes to death at 35,000 feet because of carelessness with their cargo. Their argument is also akin to a truck delivering wilted and overheated lettuce to a store and then telling the store owner that it is their fault for buying it. Despite the excuse from Backwater Reptiles pertaining to temperature, every day in Las Vegas stores such as PetSmart, Petco, and LLLReptile & Supply receive hundreds of humanely shipped animals that safely arrive at their stores despite the heat. Furthermore, these organizations enjoy 5-star ratings as opposed to the negative rating of 62% noted on Trust Pilot reviews, which is a nationally respected review site. This is aside from another 47 Revdex.com complaints against Backwater Reptiles over the past 3 years. Furthermore, being that they claim to be reptile experts they are thus astutely aware of the risks to the animals upon their inhumane shipping techniques, which are not discussed anywhere on their shipping page. (attached below). They apparently now reference a tiny link to their dishonest shipping scam completely separate from their shipping policy. My family was home awaiting delivery of our new beloved pets to ensure that they would not be left in the heat upon arrival. Upon delivery, we immediately opened the package and were horrified to see the inhumane packing that deprived them of necessary sustenance, drink, and humane shelter, in which they were cruelly and slowly cooked to death. In this regard, California Penal Code Section 597 notes the following:(a) Except as provided in subdivision (c) of this section or Section 599c, every person who maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates, tortures, or wounds a living animal, or maliciously and intentionally kills an animal, is guilty of a crime punishable punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, or by a fine $20,000, or both, or by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year. Except as otherwise provided in subdivision (a) or (c), every person who overdrives, overloads, drives when overloaded, overworks, tortures, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter, cruelly beats, mutilates, or cruelly kills any animal, or causes or procures any animal to be so overdriven, overloaded, driven when overloaded, overworked, tortured, tormented, deprived of necessary sustenance, drink, shelter, or to be cruelly beaten, mutilated, or cruelly killed; and whoever, having the charge or custody of any animal, either as owner or otherwise, subjects any animal to needless suffering, or inflicts unnecessary cruelty upon the animal, or in any manner abuses any animal, or fails to provide the animal with proper food, drink, or shelter or protection from the weather, or who drives, rides, or otherwise uses the animal when unfit for labor, is, for each offense, guilty of a crime punishable pursuant to subdivision (d).As such, it is appropriate to refer Backwater Reptiles for criminal investigation pertaining to the various animal cruelty statutes. I have attached their SHIPPING page for review in which their shipping techniques are not discussed nor is there any mention of the temperature issue that they elude to on this page. Great customer service and quality animals. I ordered a gecko and a pacman frog for my children and when they didn't have one in stock they got with me right away and offered to substitute or postpone shipment. When the animals arrived they were in great health. I will definitely use them again.

I bought my new pets and they came healthy. I will mention you guys to my friends

Was a very good experience and informative thank you !!! I will be ordering again soon.

I ordered a blue tonged skink for my sons 9th birthday. This sweet creature was shoved onto a tightly packed two sizes too small, (his body was literally bent in half), and had no room to move, AND NO BREATHING HOLES, this thing was in a small plastic food container and had no oxygen holes. The box was inlaid with a thin layer of white Styrofoam and was not suitable for safety and also kept oxygen out. This cruelty to animals and living situations was unacceptable and made us both cry. He was sitting bent in half in his own *** and *** with no oxygen and barley alive, might I add an innocent baby as well. the box was over 100 degrees with no temperature tools to keep him safe. The 24hrs he spent in these conditions has truly broken my heart. Not only due I want a refund but I want animal control to pay him a visit to make sure the conditions at the headquarters are not the same. As they have displayed no regard for animal life. I would have paid $100 to have him shipped properly. this poor guy was barely alive and came with a $200 +( a 44$ shipping) dollar price tag. This is just a devastating experience and the owner should go to jail.

Backwater Reptiles Response • Jul 10, 2020

First, we would like to note that this clearly appears to be an attempt at a free animal. As we already stated in our reply to the customer, we are baffled by her claims since we have shipped hundreds of her same animal with no issues even remotely similar to her accusations. Her animal was shipped via overnight mail (as paid for) which is around 12 hours give or take in transit. This is standard shipping protocol for every reptile company in this industry, we are no different. Per our records, her order was packed within industry protocol/standards by well-trained packers. These are living animals that do move and can defecate (which is something no one can control) so while we do our best to secure them, they can move around in the box since again, these are not stationary items. With all this said, her little one arrived alive with no injuries or harm concerns brought to our attention. Therefore, this customer is not entitled to a refund simply because the live animal moved around in the shipping box during it's short transit.

I am rejecting this response because:

his was my response from BACK WATER REPTILE INC:

sales backwaterreptiles.com Jul 10, 2020, 8:07 AM (21 hours ago) Hi ***, Thank you for the update. I am having a hard time understanding your concerns since we have shipped many baby Blue Tongues with no issues or close to the accusations you are stating here. Also your animal was shipped via overnight mail which is less than 24 hours and every reptile
company uses. Per our records, your order was packed within industry protocol by actual well-trained packers. These are living animals that do move and can defecate (which is something no one can control) so while we do our best to secure them, they can move
around in the box and perhaps that is what happened with your littleone.

With all this said, your little one arrived alive. Feel free to send us a snapshot of the Skink next to something to date
such as a piece of paper with todays date written on it if you have concerns with your animal.Thank you,

***Backwater Reptiles, Inc.
