Capital Meats Inc. Reviews (57)

I find the exact opposite of the bad reviews with the company here near Pi[redacted]. The man was a bit pushy, but I can control pushy. He is there to sell, I understand that. As far as the meats go, I have bought the crab cakes, shrimp and the fish, steaks and chicken and have had no problem with it yet. I had the "bourbon chicken" last night, cooked in my T-**l grill (like G[redacted] but better) and it was delicious. I send some home with my college grand-daughter and they have never complained.
I am disabled and it is nice to not to struggle getting to the store. I give them an A. Plus my Pit Bull guarded me the entire time and my husband was home. I never let anyone past the kitchen.

Review: Good afternoon. We have had a driver for Capital meats trying to sell his products at our home for four years. My wife finds him scary. I myself don't like the looks of him.We had asked him no less twelve times, please do not come to our home. We don't need his product and don't care to have him at our house. He stands and looks at us for a time, than begins his sales pitch. It is difficult to get him off our property.About a month ago, he showed up yet again. This time I was less than friendly. I told him under no uncertain terms, do not ever come to our home again!! I was not nice. Two weeks later, he shows up at our door again. Unbelievable!! My wife stalled him so she could call the police. The police showed up and told the driver not to come to our house again. He also advised us to get a no soliciting sign. We did and have it in plain site. You'll never guess. he showed up again, 08/07/14. I personally think he has a mental or drug problem. He is not getting it. I have tried to contact corporate a few times with no success. I did leave a message again today. I'll see if they call me. They haven't the last few times.Thank you for your time.[redacted] and [redacted]Desired Settlement: We would like contact from capital meats. We would like their assurance that we will not see a driver at our home again. I would also like a good contact number for someone to complain to when he does. He will.

Review: These people have come to my house several times in the past four years. Each time I have said "no thanks" despite their continual pressuring. One time in particular, the young man wouldn't back down and even tried to come into my house to "show me" some of the product and I got very upset and called corporate and asked for my address to be removed and for them to not come back to my house. They said they wouldn't return. A year later, a different sales man with the same said company, came back. He apologized several times and said he didn't know about any of that and he quickly left. Today, the same guy that tried to come into my house arrived back on the scene and when I told him he wasn't supposed to be at my house he had an attitude with me and said there was no way the company would have a list of where not to stop. This is unfair and I want to know why the company told me on the phone that they would respect my boundaries but then not tell their employees.Desired Settlement: I think the business should put in writing to me that they will not return to my property and apologize for continuing.

Review: The company sold me rotten meat. I contacted them the same day it was sold to me and left a message to the effect but no one will return my call. I called summer g[redacted] at [redacted]. She still has not returned my call. I called the office at ###-###-#### and it is only an answering service which you must put in a code for your party. I want to return this rotten meat as both my husband and I were sick from just one bite of it. I do have the remainder of what I cooked frozen so it can be tested at a lab. Sincerely, [redacted]

Review: On 10/23/13, 2 men selling meats, chicken, seafood from a company called Capital Meats came to my door with a sales pitch. I let them in to hear their deals, against my better judgement. After explaining their product to me, they gave me the price (with tax) was $826.17 for an almost year-long supply of meat. I explained that I didn't have $826.17 that day, nor would I have that kind of extra money on any day. The salesman, [redacted], told me not to worry - that he would take payments from me because he "had to get this meat off his truck". We agreed that I'd make a few payments, beginning in November until I was paid in full. He told that in order to show his manager that he'd made a sale - that I should write him a check for the full amount and that he would give me a receipt stating that he'd save it for 30 days. But before the end of the 30 days, he'd come back to my house and rip up that check and I could make my 1st payment. I asked him countless times to assure me that he'd never cash that check - because I don't have that kind of extra money as a single mother of 2. He promised he wouldn't cash it. On Friday, November 29th - my check was cashed in its entirety. Leaving me minus $826.17 and the inability to pay my rent for December. I made countless phone calls to various numbers I had for the company - I spoke with [redacted] in Customer Service and [redacted] in the Capital Heights office. Both of which told me that they would get it resolved and I would get refunded. Today, I spoke with [redacted] who told me that he recalls no such conversation and also with his boss (the corporate manager) named [redacted]. ** and [redacted] both told me that I signed the receipt and agreed for the check to be held for 30 days and it's not their problem - that we are now in a "he said, she said" situation. I would've never written someone a check for such a large amount without the agreement that it would not be cashed and I could make payments, as we had arranged. I am a single mother and it is 3 weeks before Christmas. I now don't have the funds to pay my monthly rent and this situation leaves me in a very bad position.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the $826.17.

Dear **. [redacted],

We are in receipt of your letter dated 12/09/13 from **. [redacted] regarding a purchase she made on 10/23/2013. At the time of purchase, **. [redacted] indeed requested that the check she submitted be held until 11/23/2013. The check was in good faith held until 11/25/13 when it was called into Telecheck for approval in the amount of $826.17. The approval number for this transaction is [redacted], which can be verified. It was after this time that the check was submitted to the bank for deposit. Funds cleared her account on 11/27/2013.

The independent contractor was notified that the customer had contacted Capital Meats, Inc. (CMI) through the Customer Service department to dispute the payment that was made for the purchase. CMI does not except post date checks. The independent contractor, in good faith paid up front for **. [redacted]’s products in addition to a fee we charge our contractor’s to deposit checks submitted 30 days after the purchase date. He stated that no other arrangements had been made with **. [redacted] other than the agreement to hold her check for 30 days.

Enclosed you will find a customer receipt, signed by **. [redacted] and a copy of her check which was remotely deposited on November 11, 2013.

I personally spoke to **. [redacted] on 12/02/13, and at no time did she mention there being a quality problem with the purchase. Had this been communicated by her, we could have gladly discussed options available to her.

Our guarantee and return policy can be found online at:http://www. capitalmeats. com/faq. cfm. Unfortunately, without receiving a written request to rescind your order via certified mail within 3 days of purchase, we are unable to offer a refund. As I'm sure you are aware, because of strict USDA guidelines, we are unable to resell any product once it has left our inspected facilities. As we'd have no way to guarantee the proper handling of meat once it leaves our hands, we are forced to uphold and maintain this return policy at all times.

Although our policy states that we guarantee product against freezer burn only, we sell an excellent product that we completely stand behind. With thousands of boxes we sell across our company each week, there will occasionally be a box that doesn't meet our high standards, and we are happy to replace that product.

Regards,

Consumer

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

Review: On around 630 pm 29 Aug 2014, a salesperson knocked on my door claiming that a neighbor of mine was a military member and had placed an order but then was moved by the military. They claimed that they had to sell the meat order or they would be in trouble and possibly get fired, and that he had young children at home to feed. He asked if he could have a few minutes to show me what he had and make me a great offer since the meat could not be returned. The salesman and his partner proceeded to bring in approximately 10 cases of meat into my dining room and unpack them. He claimed the meat was all USDA prime cuts / restaurant quality. The sales pitch was very high pressure and they would not take no for an answer. He expressed dismay that they had unpacked everything at this late in the evening and assured me that I was going to get a great deal. I asked about the return policy and I was told that there was a 12 month guarantee against freezer burn and if I had any issues or wanted to return the product I could his number of or the comapnay and they would take care of everything. At this point they had been in my house for almost an hour. I relented and agreed to a purchase of 6 cases of product for $1088.64.

After the sales people were gone I happened to bump into the neighbor they claimed had placed the order (whom I didn't think was PCS'ing), he had never heard of the company or placed an order with them. Concerned about the purchase I opened several products to test the quality (1 rib-eye steak and 1 pack of hamburgers). These meat was of a sub-par quality and not even remotely could be considered restaurant quality and certainly not graded USDA prime. I decided that this purchase was no something that I wanted to keep. The I called the company on Saturday 30 Aug but they were closed for the weekend. I again tried to contact the company on Monday morning to discuss a return of the product. I made 9 phone calls to the # listed on my receipt ###-###-#### on Monday and Tuesday but was always routed to a recording. I left messages but never received a return phone call. I contacted the salesperson at the # he left on the sales slip (Duon at ###-###-####) and this turned out to be an invalid number.

Further investigation with [redacted] County (where the solicitation took place) showed that capital Meats is not licensed for door-to-door sales. I have also contact the Department of Defense Inspector Generals Office regarding the use of the military as part of their sales pitch.Desired Settlement: I am requesting to return the remaining product and a refund of the purchase price (minus the sampled product). I have retained all original packaging and kept the meat frozen. I further request they refrain from using the military as a tactic in their unscrupulous sales pitch.

Review: BOUGHT 4 BOXES OF STEAKS FROM DAN B[redacted] AT CAPITAL MEATS OR SHOULD I SAY DOG MEAT OFF DAN WHO WAS A REP FOR CAPITAL MEATS. I WAS TOLD IF I DIDNT LIKE IT I WOULD GET A REFUND OR REPLACEMENT. WELL COME TO FIND OUT AFTER A MONTH OF TRYING TO GET AHOLD OF THE COMPANY AND DAN. MANY PHONE CALLS LATER WITH NO RESPONSE FROM EITHER THAT THEY WONT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK FOR THE ROAD KILL I BOUGHT OFF OF THEM. READ THE RECIEPT................... YOU HAVE 3 DAYS TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK, WHAT A JOKE AND THAT IS NOT WHAT DAN TOLD ME WHEN I BOUGHT THEM. THE MEAT DOES LOOK LIKE ROAD KILL AND TASTE LIKE SOMETHING MY DOG EATS AND I WOULDNT EVEN GIVE THE REMAINDER TO MY DOG, LOL. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE GOT RIPPED OFF. AND NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND. NOT TO MENTION I MET A FEW OF THEIR EMPLOYEES AFTER THE FACT AND THEY ARE FILTHY AND SOME LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE A DRUG PROBLEM. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, IT IS A TOTAL RIP OFF..........Desired Settlement: I WANT MY MONEY BACK, THE SALESMAN LIED TO ME AND THEY GAVE ME A BIG RUNAROUND ON THE WHOLE SITUATION............

Review: My wife was presented a brochure showing what Capital Meats INC considers "suggested retail prices" of meat and they are unrealistically high. Also in the brochure beneath the "suggested retail price" was the price this particular company charges (slightly lower) to convince the customer (my wife) that they were getting a deal based on this company's price being cheaper than the chronically exaggerated "suggested retail price". Case in point the brochure states that 4/10 oz. T-bone steaks have a suggested retail price of $99.50 and this company sells the same 4/10 oz T-bone steaks approx. 16% cheaper, which is still far beyond actual averages for the state of MD according to the USDA. This company baited my wife in to buying their product under a false pretense.Desired Settlement: I would like the company to show actual retail prices for meat and stop baiting customers.

Dear **. [redacted],

We are in receipt of your letter dated 12/04/13 from **. [redacted] regarding a complaint he has with the purchase that was made by his wife. We have no record of any contact from **. [redacted] prior to this letter. Had we been informed by **. [redacted], we would have most certainly attempted to address his issues with the purchase.

We are sorry to hear **. [redacted] is unhappy with his wife’s purchase, and we will be happy to discuss these issues with him. Our guarantee and return policy can be found online at:

Although our policy states that we guarantee product against freezer burn only, we sell an excellent product that we completely stand behind. Capital Meats, Inc. does not advertise that we sell by the pound but by the piece. Compared to the local grocery stores we process our product with a triple lean trim before packaging to avoid the customer having paid for waste that cannot be used or eaten. For example:

If a customer purchased a case of steaks and a case of chicken (83 servings) for $387.00 that would average out to be $4.66 a portion for an all natural product.

We continue to be ready to work with **. [redacted] to reach a desired resolution. The number to our customer service department is ###-###-#### and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Review: Capital Meats sold a product and misrepresented the origin of the product. The sales pitch did not align with written brochure or online materials. Also, the stated return policy is literally an impossible feat - requiring a certified letter to be sent to a PO Box within 3 days of point of sale, and after funds have cleared. Left two messages on the following day and the 2nd day following purchase to confirm mailing address. (USPS and [redacted] declared delivery to a POBox coukd not be validated. ) We did not receive a call back from CM until the supposed time window had elapsed, and after the check was attempted to be deposited. No attempt was made by CM to resolve the current issue. We would like CM to reconsider working with us to resolve this issue as we believe it can be done amicably.Desired Settlement: Come retrieve the misrepresented product. We have kept it in deep freeze in original packaging.

Review: The product purchased from this company was terrible and not at all as promised. The quality was very poor.Desired Settlement: The product was purchased by credit card. I request that the full amount be refunded.

Review: Door to door purchase of meat and fish order, $279.00 to "Capital Meats". Purchased in September 2013, about two thirds of order is uneatable. Meat is bad or spoiled. We have called them approx. 10 times and continue to get no satisfaction. They haven't replaced food, or given us a portion of our payment to them. They have said they'd be at our home and never came, have said thet would call back, and don't. My wife continues to call the company and just keeps talking with different people and continues to get more or less a run-around. We live on disability and that $279.00 is alot of lost money to us. Plus, all the salesman that have been here are so pushy and demanding, you would have to hear them to believe it. We immediately threw the fish out, but did keep all the bad beef in our freezer.Desired Settlement: replace bad meat and fish, or refund appropriate amount of the $279.00 we paid.

Review: The salesman showed up in the evening and high pressure sold my parents (which I live with) an assortment of chicken and steak for $307 cash. My mother was in the middle of preparing dinner and the salesman kept insisting she needed to buy the product. They were in a hurry to leave when I showed up. Once the salesman left, I took the food and weighed it on a scale. Most pieces were under weight. My mother decided that she did not want the meat so I called the cell number they provided about an hour after they left. I asked how I could return the products and get a refund. The man, [redacted], said "once you pay for it, it's yours". I explained that once she sorted out what he had thrown in boxes and sold her was too expensive and we wanted our money back. He didn't even include all the product that the brochure listed. He told my mother that it was organic meat. It is not marked anywhere that states that it is organic. The brochure does not say organic. The brochure says that the meat is marinated with natural ingredients. There is no listing of any ingredients. There is no calorie or sodium content, nothing. We all have High Blood Pressure and I try to limit our sodium intake. If food has ingredients, they should be listed. My father suffers from dementia and my mother is easily confused. The deal was done when I arrived home. If I had been there, this would not have happened. The price for the beef is over $20 a pound. Is there a 3 day buyer cooling off period for this type of sale? The meat is not ORGANIC, so the product he sold is not what he said he was selling.Desired Settlement: I have their meat in the freezer and the two Card Board boxes that the sold the meat to my mother in. It is exactly the same condition as when they brought it. I would like to return it and get a full refund.

Review: I BOUGHT $261.00 OF FROZEN MEATS. SALESPERSON SAID THAT THERE IS A 100% REFUND IF WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PRODUCT. NOT TRUE!

My experience with Capital Meats is exactly as described by the other consumers as I learned after my purchase...extremely poor meat and they do not honor their gurantee full refund if he customer is not pleased with their product. After trying their NY strip, supposedly their best product, both my wife and I thought this purchase was a major rip-off. The meat was tough and full of gristle...hard to chew and tasteless. Also tried their hamburger meat which was equally poor plus I believe it had rodent hair in the burger. I called this salesperson's cell phone 3 times telling him to come take his product and that I wanted a refund but he has never called me back. When he was selling us his product, he repeated numerous times of money back guarantee if we were not satisfy with what we got. Also sent an email to the company in the middle of August 2013 but never received a response from them. This company has to be held accountable for what they are doing to consumers.Desired Settlement: ASIDE FROM 2 PIECES OF MEATS AND 3 HAMBURGERS, WE HAVE ALL OF THE REMAINING MEATS WE BOUGHT IN THE FREEZER. I WANT TO RETURN THEM AND GET A FULL REFUND ($261.00) OR NO LESS THAN $240.00 FOR THE LITTLE MEAT THAT WE EAT EVEN THOUGH THE SALESPERSON SAID THERE WOULD BE A FULL REFUND IF WE WERE NOT PLEASE WITH THE MEATS.

Regards,

One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. Man came to the house as I was preparing to leave for work, unloaded all of the meat in the living room, when we said no got very upset and started slamming boxes closed and using aggressive language with us. For what he guaranteed to be good quality meat is absolutely horrible. Gray when we de-thawed it with a weird smell. They're aggressive rude salespeople swindling unsuspecting individuals within their own home and become hostile until you cough up hundreds for their worse than edible quality meat. I literally will not even feed it to my dog.

Review: Capital meats rep came into our office. Quite the sales man, wouldn't take no for an answer good salesman, suckie product!! He sold me 210.00 worth of fatty steaks, and dried up shrimp!! I wanted to just email their website, but the only way I could do that was by way of [redacted]. I have pictures of this meat new york strip, on one steak the fat was 3in X 2in. nothing but fat! I was so upset I thought this was not such a bad company, but seriously, I am very upset t this. I thought I bought meat for weeks to come for my family, but every product is a disappointment :(Desired Settlement: At the very least my money back for this product.

Review: The nature of my complaint involves several issues: 1. Misrepresentation of product (salesman told me it was grass-fed beef, and it is not). 2. Quality of product (horrible texture and taste) 3. Failure to deliver product (I only received half the order that I paid for) 4. Failure to answer calls and e-mails (I called corporate office several times on three different days with no answer ever) 5. Failure to accept certified letter (As per their company policy, I sent a certified letter requesting a refund within 24 hours of purchasing the product; the letter has been sitting at their post office for three days waiting to be picked up). Below is the copy of the certified letter I sent to the corporate office last week:

September 3, 2014

Capital Meats Corporate Office

P.O. Box [redacted], VA [redacted]

To Whom It May Concern:

Yesterday I was approached by two of your employees, Keith C[redacted] and Harry K[redacted], about purchasing beef and seafood products in bulk. They were very courteous salesmen and bent over backwards to put together an order that would suit my nutritional needs (no soy, no sugar, no unnecessary additives, grass fed, free range, wild caught, etc.). They assured me that I was getting a great deal compared to organic meat at Wegmans. It sounded too good to be true, actually, so Harry called someone at the office to promise that the meat was indeed grass fed, free range, and wild caught. The man on the phone said they just didn't go through the process of obtaining an organic label because it's too expensive for a small business. He said the beef came from a farm in Illinois called [redacted] Farms; needless to say, I couldn't locate this farm in my research, and the beef and chicken boxes didn't indicate anything but a conventional meat product, which gave me gut feeling that the whole organic spiel was not entirely truthful, but I wanted to believe it, so I trusted what Harry and his coworker were telling me.

Because I am apparently so “picky” (Harry's words, not mine), they did not have enough product in the truck to complete my order and said they'd be back today or tomorrow to deliver five more boxes (four of wild caught salmon and one of plain chicken breast). After a lot of discussion, I was persuaded enough to go ahead and purchase twelve boxes of product even though I only had seven in my possession (two boxes of beef patties, one box of chicken, one box of flounder, one box of swai fish, one box of crab legs, and one box of petite lobster tails). I trusted that they would be back to make due on their promise.

Harry said in the beginning of his sales pitch that they would take credit card, which is how I preferred to pay since it is so much money up front. At the end, he said they would rather have a check if possible. I checked my bank account and had just barely enough to cover the order, which was $398.00. I started to make the check out to Capital Meats Inc. but was stopped and told to make it out to Keith C[redacted] personally. They must have seen the look on my face and pulled out the brochure that states that checks can be made out to the company or to the dealer, and Keith was the dealer. Reluctantly, I wrote the check to him and said goodbye. Not even fifteen minutes later, my check was cashed leaving me with a couple of dollars in my account. This gave me another ill feeling in my gut. Yes to credit card then no, write a check, then no, make it out to this man...how did I fall for that?!

I decided to make the best of things and make the swai fish for dinner. The box looked funny compared to all the other boxes, like it had thawed out before (the label ink is bleeding and the cardboard soft). I opened the cardboard lid and took out the plastic bag of fish, only to find the plastic bag was already ripped open, the zipper seal thing detached from the plastic, and the fish looked freezer-burned. Strike One.

I called Harry right away to inform him of this and ask for a replacement. I had to leave a message because he didn't answer. I then opened and followed the directions for reheating the crab legs. Easy enough. I made the whole box for a family of four, but it really was just enough for two. Disappointed in the amount that came out of what was described to me as “extra meaty legs because they leave the end part on,” I was excited to try the little meat I did have on my plate. We all sat down to eat and took our first bites. Waaaay too salty, and I did not add any salt to the boiling water. I would never buy or recommend these again! Strike Two.

Finally, I needed something to make for lunch today, so I thought I'd give the beef patties a try for burgers. As I took them out of the package and started cooking them on our stovetop grill, I could tell right away that they did not look grass fed. I am very familiar with the color and texture of grass fed meat, and this was not it. It was grayish and dry-looking. Despite the looks, I cooked up two patties anyway. You're right about them not shrinking – they stayed flat and rubbery during the whole cooking process. I couldn't even eat one whole one, as it was far from the succulent meat I am used to making from Wegmans. It tasted like cardboard. Strike Three.

After the negative gut feelings about the initial transaction and the three bad experiences I've had with the meat so far, I want my money back! You can have your meat back. I will pay for the crab legs and patties that I opened and cooked myself since that is the chance I took, but there is no way I am going to pay for the rest of it, let alone eat it. I'm sure you do have good products that other customers enjoy that I chose not to buy because I do not eat the items listed in the ingredients, but your basic meat and seafood is just not for me or for my family. I can order grass fed, free range, and wild caught meat from [redacted] Meats for cheaper (I just looked into it), and I will get a better tasting, better quality product that I can feel good about.

My address is located at the top of this letter so that you can send me a refund check. I paid Keith $398.00, check #xxx. If you divide that by 12 boxes of product, you get $33.17/box. We opened and cooked one box of crab legs and only two patties (one package) from the box of beef patties. The swai fish was already opened, as I described above, and I will not pay for that. Considering I purchased 12 boxes of product and only used a little over 1/12th of the total amount, I expect an equal proportion of money back, or else I'll have to resort to further measures. I know there is a soliciting law in Loudoun County, and there's always a report with the Revdex.com.

Again, Keith and Harry are good, polite salesmen who did their jobs, maybe a little too well. I shouldn't have written that check yesterday. They caught me off my guard and convinced me to buy a product that I didn't really want. I'm sorry it didn't work out. I really wanted it to, which is why I agreed to purchase the product. I kept giving Capital Meats the benefit of the doubt, rationalizing that things would get better, despite the bad feelings I kept having about the whole thing.

Thank you for making this right. I look forward to your prompt reply,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: The company needs to honor its refund policy and 100% money-back guarantee and give me a refund. I did everything I was supposed to do on my end of this shady business transaction.
