Charity Towing and Recovery Reviews (57)

A negative experience is quite an understatement. Hyundai roadside assistance had this towing company tow my car last night. From my knowledge they were supposed to tow it to the closest Hyundai dealership and I was supposed to get a call from the dealership in the morning. I never received a call from Hyundai in the morning. So I called Hyundai and they said my car never got there. Decided to call the towing company and they told me the car hadn't been delivered to Hyundai because Hyundai was closed. So the towing company told me they would be taking it in an hour prior to when I called. I went to Hyundai to wait for the car and after waiting 2 hours I called Charity towing to be told my car was second to be towed out and I'd have to wait another hour and a half. After waiting the 90 minutes I called again and they told me their tow truck broke down and I had to wait another hour. I called the tow company to speak to the supervisor because after waiting 4 hours who was names STEPHANIE who was extremely rude to me and told me they don't tow cars that are picked up during the weekend until Tuesday. Which was now my 4th time talking to them in one day, which was never mentioned before. I then called Hyundai and had another tow company tow my car from charity to Hyundai because of how unprofessional they have been. This company makes up lies. They have nothing but bad reviews because they are an unreliable company.

My car would not start, so I called my insurance company as I have Roadside Assistance. This was at 8:45am. They texted me that Charity Towing would be at my house at 10:25am. At 10:15 I get a call from Roadside that says the truck will be there in 10 minutes. At 11:00am I call Charity Towing who have still not shown up. The girl tells me that they had a truck break down and someone would be there in a half hour. At 12:09 I get a call from Roadside saying they were sending another company and they would be out in an hour and a half. What??? She tells me that Charity Towing said that they couldn't take my car because it needed a different truck that they did not have available. I asked how they knew that when they hadn't been there to even see the car?!? She called Charity Towing and let me speak to the same rude woman I had earlier - who told me that the driver had been there, my car was on the street and he could not take it. I told her that my car was in the garage, had been in the garage all morning and that I didn't know where her driver went but it was not my house. She proceeds to yell at me that he driver was at MY address and that MY blue car was out front. She then said "your dark blue car was parked in front". I told her that my car is light blue and she demanded a supervisor from the insurance agent. I got dropped from the call in the shuffle, and then get another text that another company would be coming - IN TWO HOURS!!! Six hours for one tow all thanks to the rudeness, incompetence and shady business practices of Charity Towing. Maybe insurance doesn't pay the same for them as a regular tow, but that doesn't mean they should leave people stranded.

This towing company left my daughter stranded at the side of the road for over two hours and then said they weren't coming at all. They are a subcontractor for Pep Boys. I can't believe a national company like Pep Boys would contract a towing company like this.

PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY.

Yesterday, as I was leaving work my car wouldn't start and was giving a lot of error codes, and the car is only 3 years old. Due to us having road side assistance, we called them at around 3:30 PM, and they adv that someone would be here within the hour. We never even heard a response from the company, so we then had to call them to make sure that someone was on their way. They ensured us as that someone would be there. After about an hour and a half of just waiting, we called them again, and the agent on the phone said that the tow truck driver tried to get the car but no one was by the car. ( SUCH [redacted] BECAUSE WE WERE WAITING OUTSIDE OUR OFFICE BUILDING AND WE WERE IN FRONT IN THE 108 DEGREE WEATHER. WHAT KIND OF PERSON JUST MAKES STUFF UP LIKE THAT?)

At this point we are so upset, the agent then assured us that someone would be here soon. We told her we didn't want anyone else to come, especially after that mess.

On February 27, 2016, I requested a tow truck thru my insurance company's roadside service. My request was routed to Charity Towing of Phoenix. I was told by the Roadside Service that per the contract the tow could be as long as 90 minutes away. I waited at my disabled vehicle for over 3 hours and 15 minutes and a tow never arrived. I called Charity Towing twice. Once after an hour and then again after two hours. Each time I was told that a driver would call me back with an ETA. I never received a single call with an ETA or any indication that the truck would be seriously delayed. Finally I took a cab home, called the Roadside Service back and canceled Charity Towing.

"Charity" Towing was hired by my insurance company to tow my car. I was out of town and explained at that time that I needed someone willing to keep the car until I could check on it in 3 days. They offered that service with no reservation or conditions. Two days later I received a call with unauthorized charges. First they tried to charge me for diagnostic work that I did not authorize. I argued the charges and they relented, but changed the bill to $100 a day for storage. This is the first I heard of storage fees after speaking with them twice and leaving a voice message 2 days prior when I explained my intent to keep the car there for a few days. I argued those fees and they lowered them to $25 a day. I did not agree with the charges because they were not authorized, neither was I informed that there would be a charge. I paid the fee under duress, because I was desperate to remove the car from their control. I highly recommend staying away from this unscrupulous company.

Worst company ever. Lie about not finding the vehicle to tow, took 12 hours to finally tow it, then broke numerous promises that they would get the vehicle there the next day... Only to take the vehicle to their impound lot and hold it hostage until payment was made. Disgrace and should not be allowed to be in business.

I was told the tow truck was supposed to pick up within an hour it took almost 2. I was getting it delivered to a shop they told me once again it would take an hour and it is almost 4

well, NO WONDER this business isn't Revdex.com accredited. This 'business' is a damn joke. We called our insurance provider because our car broke down on the U.S. 60 Westbound and they told us it would be an ETA of about an hour until the tow truck came by to tow it to the house. Our credit card information was taken immediately and we were told to wait. And wait we did. After an hour we called the tow truck company to figure out what the hell was taking so long and were told that they contacted the driver and he was en route and it would be another 15 mins...ok fine, we waited...then after 20 mins, called them back and this time demanded to speak to a supervisor because it was becoming clear that this company was severely lacking in any sense and logic. Supervisor pretty much said the ETA was an hr and thirty mins, and yes, the driver was (at this point) 45 mins later than that and that she can't really do anything but try and contact him (AGAIN). Are you kidding me?!?!? we're sitting out here in the arizona heat for the past 3 hours and you're telling me there's not ONE tow truck driver within 5 mins from us, that you can dispatch? I hung up and called State Farm and told them they need to drop CHARITY TOWING because they suck and can't even find 2 parked cars on the side of the U.S. 60 W. This is absolutely unacceptable and VERY unprofessional to tell paying customers that they're SOL because the tow truck driver is an it. After I contacted State Farm, they 3-way called another tow truck company APACHE SANDS and the driver was there within 10 MINS. Now you tell me the difference. You have a tow truck company who says the driver didn't 'see us' and you have a completely different tow truck company who not only found us, but was there within 10 mins. DISGUSTING excuse for a company. I absolutely hope you go out of business. I am surprised that you ppl have a 1-star...you deserve zero stars. Learn how to do your jobs, because you absolutely SUCK at it. Don't ever use Charity Towing. They are a waste of time and garbage company. 4 hours of waiting and no one from their company showed up or evern offered to do ANYTHING about our situation.

Horrible! Avoid at all costs.

This company was used by my vehicle's roadaide assistance program. And they were issued the ticket to tow my car. They called and gave me an ETA after an hour had passed I called and followed up they said at that time 45 minutes, the driver contacted me and said he was in route. Another hour later I called the driver and he stated that they re routed his dispatch. I then contact my roadside assistance and they told them that they cancelled the request, no phone calls were made to rely this information. I called the tow company and a female answered ans left the call on hold over 7 minutes and then hung up. When I called back twice they refuses to answer. This place is very unprofessional and unorganized. I would never recommend their services to anyone.

On Friday, 2/26/2016, my wife had called our insurance company as her front drivers side tire was flat. The insurance company had contacted Charity towing at 6:30 pm. By 8:30 pm, no truck had shown up, the tow company after many excuses said now the insurance company dispatched a flatbed. They now had to dispatch another truck because the care was in the Airport Parking garage. The "new" truck would be at the airport around 11:30 pm. I went to stay with my wife at the airport as a unescorted woman in a parking garage is hardly a safe scenario, and once there, we called Charity towing again. I respectfully asked the dispatcher (I think his name was Joshua...not sure) why it would take 2 1/2 hours to figure out why a flatbed wouldn't work and why it would take another 3 hours for a truck to arrive at the airport. I used "sir" often, and spoke very calmly, and he kept interrupting me. I told him I understood the wrong vehicle was dispatched (which I didn't), and again asked, "may I ask, why is it going to take three hours for another truck". At that point, this man simply stated "I don't have to explain myself to you" and hung up. We called back, no answer. We called our insurance company, they placed us on hold, and they didn't go into specifics, but she said "he was acting sketchy....we cancelled the tow and dispatched a different company". The result? ABOUT TIME TOWING contacted us, asked our exact location and had a very clean truck to us in 40 minutes. The driver was extremely professional and hassle free.

I would like to ask, Charity Towing states they donate a percentage of each tow to charity...yet there is nothing listed on their website as to who or how much they've donated. I will be researching this as well.

Lastly, I will utilize every possible social media outlet to leave honest reviews about our experience with Charity Towing. Based on the Yelp Reviews I've seen thus far, the VAST MAJORITY of reviews are extremely negative, and all have the same theme.....misrepresentation about the timing of pick ups, lack of communication, and when all else fails, they hang up. CLEARLY they don't care about customer service, the safety, or have any consideration of their customers time.

Dishonest. Do not use them. Lied to me and Hyundai stating that they were here when they were not. Stood by their lies even when confronted by me and Hyundai. Find a different towing company.

I had gotten into a minor accident resulting in 4 flat tires on my brand new 2014 Toyota corolla. Through Toyota Roadside assistance, I was assigned Charity Towing and Recovery to tow my car to the dealership to get fixed. I told the Toyota roadside assistance representative, the dispatcher of the tow company, and the driver of the tow company that I had 4 flat tires and that the car must be put on a flat bed. They told me someone would arrive within an hour of and a half. After waiting two hours with no tow truck in sight, the dispatcher called and said I could leave the car where it was and go home, everything would be taken care of. The driver called all throughout the night, sounding incoherent, and when she finally got to the car 4 hours later (at 4am) she asked me to sign a waiver over the phone for any damages. I told her I didn't feel comfortable doing so and that I would come down to where she was to make sure everything goes smoothly, and she quickly cut me off and said the car was already in tow. When I got to the auto body shop to look at my car I was absolutely mortified when I saw my car was damaged beyond belief. The two back tires were ripped to shreds with no rubber left, and the rims were completely bent. The entire passenger side of the car was dented and had burnt rubber all along the side. Turns out, the tow truck company dragged my car at a high rate of speed for a long distance causing $5,300 worth in damage to my car. After calling the tow company, the dispatcher admitted the car was not towed correctly. However, the owner got on the phone, yelled at me, called me a liar, and told me he was not taking liability for this. When I asked for his name he said "[redacted]" and when I asked for his last name he responded "[redacted]", clearly a sarcastic remark not wanting to give me his name. The driver had since been fired. I have never dealt with worse customer service in my life. This company did significant damage to my vehicle and it has now been a month of arguing and trying to get my car fixed as I cannot afford the damages this company has done to my car.

My fathers truck broke down and needed a Tow and also a ride home, our auto insurance coordinated the tow truck. The Tow truck driver confirmed he knew that my father needed a ride home as well. The reason for my complaint is upon arrival of the tow truck had a woman with him leaving no room for my father in the truck. The tow truck driver advised my father to get on the flatbed into the truck that was being towed! Now my father being only able to speak Spanish and also was tired of waiting 4 hours for the tow truck got in hopelessly trying to get home. In addition to this the tow truck driver charged an additional $150 when dropping him off when all cost were handled by my insurance. I would never recommend this company to anyone all because one employee made a decision that put my fathers life in danger. My insurance has been great in getting money refunded.

I was referred to Charity Towing by my insurance company. They lied to my insurance company about being on scene when, in fact, they were no where in the area. I received a call from the company almost an hour after they reported they were on scene and after I had cancelled them and secured a new towing service. Upon my arrival back to the vehicle, there was a message from another motorist that they witnessed a Charity Towing truck driving into my rear bumper. Unfortunately, the message left was not signed and so I must repair the damage unreimbursed and the company continues to provide unscrupulous services. Please beware.

Worst company ever. Had a horrible experience. After 3 hrs of waiting. The driver comes with a broken bed truck and tells me to wait for 1 more hour.. while he goes back to the company and grabs another truck. Kept calling the operator to give me an estimated time and she would say "about half an hour from now." That turned to 2 more hrs. In total I waited 5 hrs with little kids in a QT. Horrible. ..
