Cleary Building Corp. Reviews (50)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted].The business has completed another repair attempt to the roof by replacing the ridge cap again. However, there is no way at this time to tell if this repair will work or if it will fail as all the previous attempts have. This is the fourth ridge cap system that has been put on this building, and I have no confidence that this one will work. Therefore, I have no choice but to keep this complaint open until this can be assessed, and the only way to do that is to "reject" the response on this site.

Dear Sir or Madam,I have had the opportunity to review the information filed with your office by Mr. [redacted].   We are well aware of this situation at the corporate level as we have had multiple communications with the [redacted]'s over approximately the past month.  Mr. [redacted] is...

very accurate in stating that there have been issues getting to the site and completing this project.   But the issues involve what has been the ongoing delay involving the site and the proper readiness of the site that would allow us to work safely and efficiently on the building site.   We did ship the project on or about November 10th, and have attempted to commence work on the project 4-5 times since, but due to muddy conditions and/or standing water on the site, as stated we have not been able to get on site to work efficiently or safely. We have been in regular communication with our client throughout, and will continue to do so.   At this point we are evaluating day to day to attempt to get on the site to work further on the project.  And the expectation now is that the recent colder  temperatures will firm up the ground and we will be able to work on the site once again. Thank you.[redacted].

Review: I purchased a machine shed from Cleary Building Corp and signed the contract on October 10th 2013. Before I signed contact I asked my salesman when it would be built and was told around thanksgiving or the first part of December. Today is January 10thand I still do not have a barn put up. On my contract it has a construction date of November/December. I have been lied to so many different times about when it would be built, not only from the local office in cameron, mo but also from the assistant manager of operations at the corporate office. I have been told it would be built not only around thanksgiving, but also the 19th of December, the end of December, the 13th of January, and the 26th of January. If I had known it was going to take this long I would have given another company my business. When I talked to the manager of operations he told me they have a time frame to put a shed up 8-12 weeks when the contract is signed. January 2nd was the twelfth week and still no barn is put up. I was also told by him the barn would be delivered on December 30th and they would be starting on it within a day or two of delivery. It showed up December 31st, but nobody has been there yet. Now I'm being told out will be January 14th before they will be there, maybe. The pad for the barn has been ready since October and when they need a draw on the job they contact my loan officer so they can't blame it on any of that. I also have voicemails from both my salesman and the assistant manager of operations telling me the dates I mentioned above that the barn would be put up.Desired Settlement: I would like to get $1,000 off the price of the barn and would like to get the barn put up. Any time they wanted money they didn't hesitate to call and get it but they keep coming up with lies and excuses when I ask why my barn is not put up.

Response:

Dear Sir or Madam,

In regards to the complaint filed with the Revdex.com by Mr. ***, it is an accurate statement that the contract called for a November/December tentative date to start construction. We in fact did meet the December timeframe with the delivery of materials on 12/30/13. But due to multiple weather delays in December and thus far in January we are delayed in starting. Obviously the weather during this timeframe in the Midwest and central states area has been less than adequate to assist the construction efforts in these areas. At this point we are scheduled to start construction on this project next week and we will make sure that we continue to adequately update our client in the interim period. Thank you.

In Oct 2013 we contracted with Cleary Building Corp to build our residential home. Our salesman walked us through the design process. Our building was slated to begin in early spring 2014 and we were to have all the dirt work , porta-potty in place etc. We had our end done. Our building was delayed multiple times. Cleary gave us many reasons- Not ordered on their end on time, No truck drivers, No crews. We cried foul and wrote and called corporate. *** himself gave us some run around. Our building finally began in late July 2014, with work in earnest in Aug. This is unfortunate since we had planned on the shell of the house being done by June/July so we could do the finish work and get into it since our basement in the house we were living in developed cracks and took on water every time it rained or the snow melted.
In addition to that, we had contracted with other companies to do electrical, cement and plumbing. Each time we got pushed back by Cleary, our contractors had to put us at the back of the line as well. Which help up our getting things done in a timely fashion. We were lucky to get the cement work done before the snow.
The also told us we had to pay for a pota-potty per our contract out of our pocket. So we did and it sat unused for 3 months. While they did 'reimburse' us for that time, we noticed (after we paid) on our bill that they also charged us 700+ dollars for potty services. So- in essence, they were out nothing.
We discussed windows with our salesman, which he said Cleary could provide- Anderson Windows & Doors made by Plyco (in conjunction w/ AWD) for Cleary. We also needed a double front door, which we sourced ourselves.
We went ahead an agreed to Anderson by Plyco series 100 residential windows for our house and doors too. What we received is the lowest grade possible shop windows. The rating on the windows doesn't even come close to ND standards.
Unfortunately, we knew none of this until Nov 2014. Every single window developed an inch or more of ice coating all over it. The latches couldn't be undone, doors were frozen shut. Repeated calls to Cleary and visits by the then office Manager elicited all manner of excuses. "You can expect this for 3-5 years because you have cement in the house and it keeps the humidity high" We bought a dehumidifier. Didn't do anything for it. Then it was "Too well insulated" "Not built correctly" (ummm- Cleary built it!) "Not vented correctly" and the list went on. Calls to the corporate office were largely ignored and when they did deign to return calls Ken *** and Matt *** were rude. At one point we were told "What are YOU going to do about it?"
We got madder by the day. My family is in jeopardy! Really? Can't get out in an emergency. Heaven forbid my HOME catches fire in the winter. We would perish before we could break through the ice to get out. We have actually been frozen into our home on occasion because neither the doors nor windows would open. FRIGHTENING!!!
Storm windows were suggested. Cleary also said after much kibitzing that they would SELL US the right windows at a discounted price AND we'd have to pay the insulation.
We were also told that this is all our fault because we did not obtain a complete list of all building materials Before we signed a contract. It was implied in no uncertain terms, that had we done our homework and researched every single product # and cross referenced everything before OK'ing it, we would have known they were not the windows requested. (Like we're supposed to know that #xyz stands for cruddy windows?) And we also would have known what everything else was.
Cleary did say the walk-in doors were "mis-specked' and would replace those. They have, but it took repeated visits to get it right, but they are still metal framed and freeze shut to date (Dec 2015)
In Feb 2015 I contacted Anderson Windows & Door Co and they say they have NO working relation with either Cleary Building Co or Plyco Co. I pointed out that on both Cleary & Plyco websites that it directly links to ADW and had ADW all over their ads.
During all of this we have passed around to Brian ***, Ron *** as well.
On multiple occasions we have provided, at their request, my daily journal and pictures. After March we were informed that NOBODY from Cleary Co is supposed to speak to us AT ALL.
Fast forward to Fall of 2015 and now interior is done and we are living this home full time. We bought storm windows for all the windows. All the windows STILL FREEZE over and the doors Freeze SHUT (we did not get storm doors) I will admit, that they are not 'as bad' as they were, but still a hazard. Along with the ice and daily condensation we are now dealing with stained and ruined wood trims and flooring as well as MOLD beginning. - I have to wipe them down multiple times a day, and keep fans on both doors to keep them from freezing shut.
Dec 2015, a couple of the screws that hold the windows into the walk-in doors have come out and we have been unable to get replacements as of yet.
The windows are the biggest of our problems. The one that worries us the most. If they would have just given us the vinyl or wood cased series 100's, we wouldn't be in this predicament.
Our other smaller problems are that the walls were not straight by a couple inches- something you wouldn't notice until after the crew is gone and you're doing interior work- and the windows are different heights. Again, not too noticeable, except when we sided the inside instead of sheet rocked, we noticed it was off 1 inch here- 3/4 there.... and the corner of our roofline over the patio was not attached properly. Cleary (the former office mngr) kept saying he would come and do it, but never happened. We will do that ourselves in the spring.
We should have immediately gone to the Revdex.com and our States ATTY, but didn't because we didn't want the locals out of a job. We live in a rural area and all jobs matter out here. Now we are paying the piper for not doing so.

I had made the decision to hire Cleary Building Corporation to build a post frame building on my property. I could have built it myself because I have 30 years in the construction industry. The majority of those years as a superintendent. I didn't want to spend every evening and weekend of the summer working on my building, I would rather spend my off work time with my family. So I figured who better to hire than so called professionals.
Cleary had an inexperienced crew erect a building for me. They did not follow the construction plans for which they were contracted to build. They made many structural errors as well as aesthetic errors. I had complained to Cleary about the mistakes the crew was making from the start of the job, and have met with them many times to discuss the issues. On one of the site visits, a Cleary Senior Field Superintendent had actually told me "its unfortunate you had the guy build your building that you did". He also said that the construction plans don't have to be followed completely.
They tried fixing some of the issues and most were just "fixes" to cover up the mistakes.
The problems are, but not limited to,
Truss elevation 1" too high. NFBA allows 1/2” deviation from plan.
Ridge cap oversized, not one that was supposed to be on building.
Improper truss bearing on east wall columns.
Post footings, not centered under columns.
Footing depth too shallow on at least one, first post north of SE corner.
Purlin lap not according to plans, only 6-1/2”in places.
Lack of purlin fastening. Supposed to be 2 on each end from each side and toe nailed on each truss according to plan.
Doors, door track hardware improperly installed, missing? Adjusted all the way up and barely up to proper elevation. No room for future adjustment.
SE corner, column or sheeting out of plumb, corner misaligned with sheeting.
Column east side of south doors out of plumb.
Soffit out of level.
Soffit not pushed together, gaps where it is supposed to be locked together.
Dents in soffit panels above man door, looks to be from ladder shoved up under.
Dents in soffit panels on west side on south end, from ladder also.
Sheets on north wall with holes exposed.
Hole in roof sheeting, can see daylight from ground.
Z-trim on west wall bent and paint ground off from screw guns. This is from when they readjusted the bottom trim that was put on out of level.
Wainscot on west wall fasteners not in line, under z-trim in areas, below z-trim in areas.
North wall post improper spacing, about 4” off.
Door track cover and trim on south wall out of level, wavy, rippled, buckled.
Side light panel on east side with screw filling hole from overextended door track that was shortened up after it was improperly installed.
Hole in j-channel below soffit on east side where door track cover was shortened.
Hole in trim on south side of door on east wall at wainscot level.
Poor fit up of trim, SW corner to z-trim. This was attempted to be fixed 4 times and still looks bad. Much of trim on building fits poorly.
Trim on door headers ground up, scratched.
Roof panel on north east end kinked, bent at eve.
Top purlin on west side only attached on bottom, was cut loose with sawzall because it was out of level and reattached on bottom edge only.
Top girt on east side too high that door track attaches to on both doors, 2x4 added to bottom of 2x8 to attach tracks.
Non treated wood used to extend in-ground stub for south doors.
Eavelite Girt space on east and west walls is 16”, supposed to be 18-1/8”.
Girts out of level, more than allowable tolerances. One below eavelite above man door that can be seen from outside of building is one.
Inconsistent amount of screws fastening trim.
I have met with Cleary and have gone over these issues many times. They continue to say they will make this building conform to industry standards. With the amount of mistakes made on this building, I question what else is wrong. So I have asked many times for a complete set of building plans which they refuse to provide me with. Probably because they know I will find many more problems with this building. To conform to industry standards, they would have to basically tear the building down and start over.
I understand people make mistakes, and clearly, Cleary made a mistake by having an inexperienced crew erect a building for me. Therefore, I wish they would just man up and give me a complete set of drawings so I can identify all the issues, and properly build the building that I had signed a contract for.
I have acquired legal representation to help settle this dispute.

Review: In about March 2014, Cleary completed a pole building on our property. Since the day it was "completed," it has had numerous and severe leaking issues, primarily regarding the roof ridge. The original leak was blamed on a faulty ridge light design. The light was removed and replaced but the leaking continued. The light was then removed and replaced with a solid cap. Despite doing approximately a dozen repair attempts to the ridge, including multiple replacements of the ridge cap, the leaking persists.Desired Settlement: At this point we believe there are simply too many holes in the roof from multiple repair attempts for it to be structurally sound and water tight. We have asked for the roof to be replaced in its entirety. This request has not been acknowledge by the builder.

Response:

Dear Sir or Madam,I have had the opportunity to investigate this situation. I have since had our *** inspect the building and the facts are that there are still leaks, and we have qualified the repair properly. I expect that the ridge of the building will be properly repaired prior to 9/4/15. During my review of the file I do not see that we have done "a dozen repairs", but we certainly have been there multiple ***es in attempts to resolve this issue. Which is what we need to do to provide the client with a building that meets his and our expectations. If there are further questions I can be reached at ###-###-####. Thank you.***Cleary Building Corp.

Response:

Dear Sir Or Madam,As has been previously communicated, there have been additional communications with our client since our corporate office was made aware of the ongoing issue with this building. That resulted in a on site meeting and further review of the issues. We have the proper repair scheduled to provide the solution to remedy the problem and I expect that this service call will be completed prior to 9/28/15. Thank you.***Cleary Building Corp.

DREAM GARAGE TURNED NIGHTMARE May 27, 2015 I signed a contract putting down $7,329.00 on a deposit for a building with Cleary. I was told it would be done by the second week of september."once our guys get going it happens pretty quick" salesman Jim *** said. I knew this build was about 1/3 more costly than other ways of building, but figured if I had my antique cars out of storage I could start recouping some of this money. Its turned out to be twice as much. I had hopes of getting my electric and insulation in so I could spend the winter out there and Jim knew this. I've learned the hard way that sales guys are what they are and will tell you whatever you want to hear just to get your money. September finally rolled around and all I got was more excuses. Then their Excavator showed up. The original quote was for $1,500. Jim *** (sales guy) acted like he had numerous Contractors up to look at my site and this guy was the best way to go. He spent 2 + weeks moving dirt and my septic field. When it was done they sent a bill for $3,500 (I payed this ) and I had to move my building over so that it would not hit my septic field. By October I wanted my money back, so I could seek another route, at $300 a month for storage it was getting expensive and I was told that I would be foolish to call it quits now "we're just about to start building". I called up to corporate in Wisconsin and talked to some manager who didn't act liked he cared much. The next day I was called by a OHIO district manger, in one ear out the other. October 28, 2015 part of my building shows up, but now the delivery guy can't get up my drive and talk of back charging me for the extra work begins. THE SALES GUY CAME TO MY SITE, HE DIDN'T QUOTE THIS OVER THE PHONE. So I cut them another check for $14,000 thinking the crew would finally start building. December 8, 2015 the guys show up to start my building. Now all the wood had molded on one side after sitting in the rain for 6 weeks. Jim knew I was leaving my rafters exposed. They start to auger the holes for the poles and can't get a couple deep enough and want to charge me more. Keep in mind this ground is almost sand "We hit sandstone we're gonna have to rent a compressor and a jack hammer" my comment was " You guys are in the hole drilling business and didn't bring anything to drill a hole with?" They showed up the next day with a compressor and a jack hammer. The stone broke up just from dropping the jackhammer in the hole. They used it about 20 minutes and then let the equipment sit there for two days. Wouldn't you know it the first hole they dug hit a septic line and turned the job site into a mud hole. Jim Stoner says "I'll call the excavator." excavator says "It's all good we'll come out and fix it" They start putting up the building and I ask "where's the fourth window?" guy from the office shows up immediately to look through the supplies. "Nope no window its not on the plans." We've been talking about four windows since the beginning. Every time the sales guy has shown me the plans I've said "Where is that fourth window" "oh no problem I'll be on the job supervising and we'll get that window in where ever you want it". They start to put on the roof and I ask where is the stuff that goes on first, the low R rated water barrier? " oh its there is on the metal see" Once again Jim the sales guy knew I was leaving my rafters exposed. December 16, 2015 Jim show back up telling me he needs another check for $1,713.00 " I have fought off every other increase.( Id like to know what those were?) Ive had to get a revised concrete estimate. Were having access issues". Another lie like he had several concrete guys up to look at my site. ONCE AGAIN HE DIDNT QUOTE THIS OVER THE PHONE. Guys didn't have any problem at all, they just had to bring another bobcat to run the concrete with and they had it poured by 4:30. This cost me a extra $1,713? I was told this would be the last add on. Different guy from the excavating company shows up to fix the line. Then sends me a bill for another $1,500. Now my sales guy is playing stupid. I find out Cleary sent the excavator a bill for $600 for 2 scoops of graveI I already payed $1713 for and the gravel people charged Cleary less than $600 for. December 18, 2015 The garage crew worked into the night to complete the building packed up their stuff and left. No walk around the building to get my final thoughts or anything, like thieves in the night. December 21, 2015 asked about my concrete was told not in the rain, even though no rain in sight and I was told it was going to happen the week before when the weather was nice. December 29, 2015 called the regional manager and told him how disgusted I was with this whole process. He said he understood and would make it right and get my window ordered in and eat the cost. Never heard anymore about it. January 7, 2016 guys showed up to do the concrete, nice guys. Concretes not near as perfect as I was lead to believe it would be. Not a slick smooth surface at all. More like a farmer did it and its good enough to park your tractor on. Keep in mind the sales guy Jim Stoner knew this was to be my dream garage and had planned painting the floor. They didn't even use mesh under it or lay plastic down first. Have you ever seen a concrete floor sweat? I HAVE. Next day in the rain with concrete still wet the garage door guys show up. "We were told the concrete was done two weeks ago". Their office wanted them to do it anyway. The sales guy Jim Stoner acted like well if they don't do it today it will be another month before they can get back out. Like I was supposed to say go ahead and mess up my concrete. Sales guy has already started texting me about final payment. ***. No garage doors, no window, no gutters, concretes not sealed, weather vain isn't on, no fixing of the ruts they put in my drive way with their trucks. Cant even drive in front of my nightmare because it's too soft. Sales guys like we'll get you some gravel out there like it would be included the $43,000 cost of a 32x42 . So they didn't get it done in september like I was told, kept adding on like they never seen the job, not worried about my antique cars sitting out in the weather that have never even seen rain, I've got a drive way I cant drive in because of their mess that already cost me $3500, never walked around the building with me and my punch list so I could point out kinks in the sheet metal or other issuses like any other builder would do expecting final payment and still expect to show up and I'm supposed to just write a check when they say. Are you kidding me? They haven't ate anything and have not met my deadlines and have not acted the least bit concerned. Do I get to back charge them? Do yourself a favor take your contract to your lawyer and go over it with them, talking with sales guy don't mean anything, they dummy up on you real quick. I'd just go buy a hammer and bring one piece of wood home with you every day and build it your self it will be a lot less aggravating. I'd say hire locals who care. But at this point I'm not even sure honesty still exists.

Weather due to Corporate problems or coordinating of personnel or communication problems, Clearly is doing a very poor job of following up on agreements and promises made in the completion of a project. Contract signed July 31 2014. To be started in "5to6" weeks. After several non returned and few returned telephone calls and promises to start the building, last one Nov.first,I again received a call today that they would start Nov 17. Can you assist me in this complaint and getting my pole barn built. After the barn is built, the floor has to be poured and barn prept to get livestock in before cold weather. Thank you, ***

In September of this year, I contacted Cleary about a building I needed for use in early November. Since that initial contact, nothing has gone well. In my opinion, Cleary's local sales rep has lied to me and to his superiors. He got my signature on the contract, and then began changing the facts so that my November building would not be delivered until January through March. He told my wife and me that we had agreed to simply cover up our belongings until that time. That conversation never happened. He invented it to cover his butt. We don't even HAVE covers for the cars, motor home and boat that will now sit out in the snow until he gets it done. I called the home office, and they moved our start date up to December 7, for $1500 extra. They are now saying that they won't start the building until the 10th, and, oh, by the way, it won't have a door. In my opinion, these people are uniformly dishonest and incompetent. I will never do business with them again.

Review: Building was staked out the night before crew was to arrive on 6/26/14. I had a doctors appointment out of town. When I returned they had moved the building 2-2 1/2ft north and back to the west. I was never notified about this being moved. As sales rep had all phones numbers to contact me. This made the whole building out of where it was to have been built. They also unscrewed the water hydrant. Which my husband had dig up and relocate as well as the electricity. We had it staked and the could see where it was and was told by myself where it was. But they just moved where they wanted. Also threw the lot in front of the building completely off and had to completely rebuild it to match new building location. Refused to take off the bid I turn in the second time. Would not pay my husband's cost for labor to relocate water line and electricity. There is not the first time Cleary has done this to people. I will never have another Cleary Building on my property ever again. I have pictures to back all this up and will gladly show their faults in building.Desired Settlement: Would like the $1,500.00 in labor for time spend relocating water and electric. and $175.00 for having to buy parts to fix water line and moving electrical and make building touch ground one end. Plus I'm sorry from Cleary home office person ***. I sure he would not let a building built like this on his property.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am in receipt of the complaint filed by Ms. ***. There are conflicting reports as to what took place which is contrary to the complaint filed. I have been informed that the client was aware of the location issue during construction and no further commentary or complaints were levied by the client. Not until completion of the project were there any issues. We made a concession at the time of final payment with the client as a gesture to resolve this issue and the final payment was made at that time. My view is that this matter should be closed at this time. Thank you.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. Put down a 5 k deposit in April for a 20K building that was to be delivered October 11 2013. I have no building to date and am being told my building was never ordered because my salesman is no longer with them. Had custom block work done and have 20 k invested in the project now water is going to get in the block and freeze and crack with the winter weather. Called the district manager a month ago with complaint and he never returned call as promised. Customer service is beyond terrible.

Review: I contracted with Cleary Building Corp. to build a new barn in June of 2015. The purpose of the barn was to house bred ewes before and after they lamb this winter. The contract stated this would be an Oct/Nov build due to the fact that I needed time to tear down my old barn and get the site ready for the new larger barn. I called my Cleary rep in early September and stated that the site was ready. He came out on September 14th to do the 100' Mark Verification which basically affirms that the site is ready to build on. I received an e-mail from him stating that "it is a four week process to order your building once the 100' Mark is established".

At this point, I was happy with the progress being made and marked my calendar for a mid-October build based on the e-mail from the representative. The weather was great in September and October and I had other contractors lined up to do electrical and run water to the building once it was completed. By the second week of October I was getting nervous because I hadn't received any information on when the building materials would be arriving. Finally on October 29th I received an e-mail stating that my building ship date was the second week of November!!

The building was delivered on November 10th with promises and assurances from the Cleary rep that the crew would be starting on the project immediately. Well it is now December 22nd and the trusses and materials are still lying on the ground. They did manage to put two-thirds of the poles in the ground but that is all the progress they have made.

I have been assured by Cleary that my project is "their number one priority". If that is the case, then why is the building not complete? I have nearly 30 head of sheep in the pasture that do not have a roof over their head because this business cannot seem to get their act together. I have paid them over $20,000 (2/3 of the total contract) and they continue to put me off. This is absolutely NOT acceptable. My sheep will start lambing in approximately 2 weeks and I do not have a building to house them in. I planned this out early in the year to avoid a situation like this, however Cleary has my money and they know there is very little I can do to push them. Further complicating matters is the fact that winter will be upon us very soon (we have been lucky so far) thus it is unlikely that I will be able to have the electrical and water lines put in if the ground is too frozen. Again, all as a result of Cleary's failure to manage their jobs! They always seem to have one reason or another as to why they can't get a crew here to work, well I am getting sick and tired of getting pushed around by them. There have been many "good work days" that they chose not to send a crew to work and if they can complete it in 3-5 days like they said they would then why don't they do it?

Most recently, I was promised last week that the building crew would be here yesterday (12/21/15) but they ended up not coming due to damp conditions. So they promised they would be here today for sure because the temps were to drop last night and the ground would be firm enough to work on today. Shockingly I received a phone message early this morning stating that the crew wouldn't be coming today after all (no reason given) but that they would be here next Monday (12/28/15)!

I cannot begin to express my total frustration and disappointment with this company. I am an honest person and I do what I promise to do when I promise to do it. Is it too much to ask that I be treated fairly?Desired Settlement: I need this project completed as soon as possible, please.

Dear Sir or Madam,I have had the opportunity to review the information filed with your office by Mr. ***. We are well aware of this situation at the corporate level as we have had multiple communications with the ***'s over approximately the past month. Mr. *** is very accurate in stating that there have been issues getting to the site and completing this project. Thank you.***.

Response:

Dear Sir or Madam, On the morning in question, the roads to the area to include the site were impassible due to weather. We have communicated that to our client. Again, at all times that access to the area and site are proper, and the site is workable, we will be working. We will be working on this project until we are at a conclusion. Thank you. ***

Review: I hired Cleary to complete a 42x72x14 pole barn. The contract was signed in June, the work was to start in August or September, they rushed us to have the clearing and leveling done to order the building, then delayed the start date 4 times. They eventually were in breach of contract and asked me to sign a change order so that it would take them out of breach of contract, which I did as they credited me $1440 toward the delay (mind you, my board for my horses is $800 per month, this did not fully compensate me for delay or the inferior product they provided. They did not provide me with a copy of the contract at the time of signing, it was signed digitally on the sales reps computer, once the hard copy was forwarded to me, I discovered my building which was to be 42x72x14 with 12 foot shed rows on each side, was now only 42x70x14 with the shed rows. After constant complaints they finally began work on the building the 3rd week of October, which delayed our fence construction and interior construction into winter months and hard to work with weather. They sent a crew for whom this was their first project, they had my building several inches out of square and instead of pulling the posts and re-drilling, they tried to pull the building back into square, unsuccessfully. They damaged several pieces of metal siding, came back to fix it once, and caused more damage of which they are to come and fix this Monday, they never did attach the weather vane, it is hanging off the roof at a 45 degree angle. The rear of the roof is out of square, they are now proposing that they come out and tear the roof apart to fix it, I am not in agreement of this course of repair as I feel it will cause further issues with the roof and I plan to have hay and stock in the barn by the time they complete this. I am fine with them fixind the siding on the rear elevation, the weathervane and the nail holes in the roof. However, I have told them several times I am not in agreement with this course of repair for the rest of the roof, I feel they should compensate me for the poor work product and delay in moving my stock into the barn to resolve the issue.Desired Settlement: I would like them to fix the damaged siding, roof holes and weathervane, I would like an appearance allowance for the crooked/out of square edge to the roof and the decrease in square footage of the building from (the price per SF is 7.67 per my calculations x 132 SF shortage,=1012.44 for the SF, plus the $1000 for the roof, which is payment I have yet to issue would satisfy my request for the poor work product, I also feel they should compensate me for the additional boarding costs I have incurred.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are in receipt of the complaint filed with the Revdex.com by Ms ***. We have had the opportunity to communicate with and attempt to resolve the open issues with our client prior to the filing of this complaint. Although there were some delays that could not be controlled to start this project, the structure has since been erected. At this time, we are attempting to commence the final service work to the building to close out the contract and it is expected that this will be completed in the coming week. Additionally the claim that the building is not the correct size is not accurate. The building is constructed to the correct size which is listed specifically within the contract documents. All repairs will be concluded to meet the industry required standards. If you should have further questions please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Review: Cleary Building was contracted from the *** office, The sales Rep was ***. *** and I talked about concerns I had with their company after reading some reviews, He stated that he was working on rebuilding that image, and that he would personally take care of all problems. He indicated this as a benifit for me, and I agree, as I only live approx 1 mile from his office.

Between the time of ordering and time of delivery, there was a change order for different colored steel/siding. When the building kit was delivered I was very lucky to catch that they sent 3 diffrent colors, none of which were right. To Cleary credit. they did have new steel before they needed it during the project.

On the date of the build, *** called me and asked where I was at. They showed up to work at 7am and I did not get of work till 7 am and work a hr away from home. They wanted to know the placment of the building. I told *** that there was one marker beside the house and that is where that corner of the building needed to be placed. And to verify that the building was not closer than 6 ft to the property line. When I arrived at home, Cleary had the batter boards and string lines up and pole holes marked. Prior to them digging I measured their markings to the property line, and we were at 5 ft. They measured 7 ft off of the neighbors garage. I told them this and they corrected the problem by moving the garage over 1 ft.. After it was corrected the corner of the building that I had marked was now in the correct spot. which was 40" off of the back corner of the house.

They worked on the garage over 4 days. The only problem I noticed during construction was the foul language on the site. It did not offend me much. However the building inspector did have to set them straight as he over heard it.

It was not until after the building process that I noticed the problems. The first and smallest was the amount of debris that were left in my yard. The contract states that I will be responsible for the extra materials and I may use them or dispose as them as I please. I was told that the clean up is minimal as they don't send extra material. however what I ended up with was 3 55 gallon drums of scrap metal that is not usable, and I would not call "extra material". I cant complain much as I agreed to do it, but did not believe it would be this bad.

The second is all the nails and screws all over my yard. This was built in town on a city lot. The yard is a real front and back yard, dirt driveway with a dirt floor inside the barn. To date I have picked up over 60 nails/screws and I'm still finding more. Also, there were many Cigarette butts all over the building site. Overall not a very professional way to build.

Then upon inspected the building I found that there were many many bent over nails where the truss joins the pole. It does leave concern that there are not enough nails to properly hold the building together. The sliding doors were not adjusted properly. There was no gap at the bottom of the door. the top of the door had a gap big enough your hand could fit through. and the were hung crooked. The left side of the door is lower than the right side of the door.

The largest issue is the placement of the building. As I was inspecting the outside of the building for any dented panels and straight screw lines. I noticed that the building is not square to the lot. The front of the garage is 40 inches away from the house. however the rear of the building, which is only 40 ft long. is over 2 feet closer to the house. I tried to give Cleary the benifit of the doubt, I checked for sqaure to the property line, or the neighbors garage. however it is not sqaure to anything. I have shown this to the cleary representive ***, However it was brushed off. Cleary blames me for their crews mistake, will not make any discount ( which isnt my first choice) or to rebuild the building( my first choice.)

Cleary did attempt to fix the doors and the bent over nails. however nails are still bend over, and the doors are still crooked.Desired Settlement: My first choice is to have the building rebuild square. However Clearys reputation for customer service is very negitive, so I also presented them with the option of waiving the final payment. Which t is only 5600 dollars. I ask this based on the amount of the labor to build the building which is what the fault is. also in addition to that I am calculating the price per square foot that they charged for the building, Then taking that number times the amount of square feet of my yard that is now not usable due to the building being off square. This is a very fair remedy as the future house expansion will now be more difficult with a off square building to meet up too.

Dear Sirs:

Review: We contracted with Cleary Building to build a pole shed last September with a completion date before Thanksgiving. The building was note completed at this time. We were promised because of the delay that if we paid the contract they would install a cupola at no charge as compensation for all the delays.

Like a fool I believed them and paid them in full.

I have in writing that they will install the cupola free.

It has been 13 weeks and no sign of them.

I had to hire a different contractor to finish the ground work around the building.

I also still have scrap steel laying in a pile they just left even though clean up was part of the deal.Desired Settlement: I want them to correctly deliver and install the cupola as promised. I also want them to clean up left over sheet metal.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

We hired Cleary Building Corp out of DeSoto, Iowa to build a 42' x 40' pole barn. The work was started on Monday, June 20, 2016. The barn was finished four days later. The temps were excruciatingly hot but that didn't appear to affect our workers. They were extremely proficient in their jobs and more than polite and easy to converse with for any questions, etc. We determined our design through Lonny C*** who was more than accommodating to our needs. The building crew made sure everything was done in a neat and professional manner. There was little to any leftover scrap and/or garbage. They cleaned up everything they used. There were no personal items or garbage scattered around. I cannot praise this crew enough....some really great personable and knowledgeable young men who take pride in their work !

Review: My building has dented metal on the lean and its 63 long and there is several metal on the sides that are dented and scratched. They cut a piece of metal too short and it's on a corner, so they tried to cut other sheet to overlap and it looks horrible. Iv called them honestly prob about 35 ***es and all I get is Corp will not respond. Iv talked to every manager there is too talk to and it still does no good. Iv told them after they finished that I was going to insulate the building so this issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. Four months later still no answer so I insulated my building with spray foam, so I'm asking for a little refund. My question to *** the manager was if I can't get this issued resolved what good is warranty If I have a prob down the road. I spent a lot of money with them for this building and to get treated like this is wrong.Desired Settlement: My desire outcome would be some what of a refund of what the metal would cost and labor too put it on. Also would like them to buy my warranty out since I can't even get my dented and scratched metal resolved.

Response:

Dear Sir or Madam,Dear Sir or Madam, I am in receipt of the information filed with your office by Mr. ***. I have had the opportunity to review this information with management at the division level that works with this branch office, and also discussed this matter with our current Branch Manager.Reviewing the information, as well as the file involving this contract, it is apparent that Mr. *** did not follow the warranty procedure, which states that if he has a warranty or service item he can contact the Corporate Office to ensure any service items are corrected promptly. I show no record of any contact from this client to the corporate office to address repair concerns. The manager he references in his complaint, "***" has not been with our company for months so I am unable to verify what, if anything, was ever discussed. In regards to the comment that he has talked to "***" the manager, Mr. *** did speak to *** per my discussion with Mr. ***. But in that discussion he was not asking for warranty work to be performed, he was demanding monetary compensation since Mr. *** had already done specific inside work on his building. Which we are not in agreement with compensating him an arbitrary amount for any alleged repairs. Namely due to the fact that if the terms of the warranty were followed properly, we would have executed the service work promptly. We will contact Mr. *** in the next 48 hours to discuss any service/repair items that he wants corrected after validating any pending concerns. Thank you.***/ V.P. of Operations/Cleary Building Corp.

Review: Building materials were delivered in a storm on October 29, 2013 for an October/November erection time frame and have never been erected-now damaged.

Contract Date: 8/12/13 Job No:*** Tentative date of erection per contract:Oct/Nov

Materials were delivered: 10/29/13

60% or $24284.00 has already been paid in the form of personal check and additional materials were ordered and payment made that were to be stored in the shed. Additional materials were refused delivery in December as the shed was to be completed to store them in.

Sales Person:***, ***: *** Contact has been made over and over to local sales person. We were under the understanding that buildings were erected within 3 days of delivery of materials. We went through this company because that has been there normal policy. Sales person called to state that crew would be there to erect building prior to Thanksgiving and subsequent messages that "the crew will be there Monday" have followed after we have had to make contact wondering where they were. Crew showed up with equipment in November, had equipment gel ups and crew issues (we were told that some could not pass their drug tests and were fired) and left. Crew manager showed up again in mid-January after many phone calls to company expressing the fact that the materials (rafters and steel and quickcrete) have been laying out in the weather where they were delivered in Oct. Water and ice and snow has been running through these materials since delivery. The rafters are warped and materials are wet leading us to believe they are not the quality products that we paid for. ***, manager from ***, WI assured us before Christmas that he would get to the bottom of this situation, communication would improve, and a crew would be here by January 6. Jan 6 arrived--no crew. We called WI office leaving messages that have as of this date, never been returned. We have requested our money back per answering machine on Jan 9 and asked them to take the materials OR we would like new materials in place of those that have been damaged. Local crew manager arrived morning of Sunday, Jan 12 unannounced. He was unaware that there were any issues and products were not able to be erected as quickcrete had been wet and was solid impeding any progress on his part. He took equipment and went back home. Tues, Jan 14 we finally contacted the local salesperson ourselves and *** from WI had told the local salesperson not to contact us anymore. Local salesman stated that a crew would be here the 23 or 24 of January to go through materials together with us to see what was usable and what was not. On Jan 24 we called local salesperson as no one had arrived yet, he stated that they were at another job site and they would be here the first part of the week of January 27th. As of last night (Jan 28) no contact has been made by Cleary or any of there representatives.Desired Settlement: We would either like to have damaged materials replaced with new and building erected immediately OR we would like all of our money back including the money for the additional materials that are pending delivery and we will have a different company put up a building for us that wants our business.

Response:

We are in receipt of the complaint filed in this situation. Obviously the weather has been less then acceptable through the plains and midwest over the past few months. We have since had the opportunity to have a on site meeting with this client and come to the agreement within the parties that the materials are acceptable and meet industry standards. And also have since commenced construction with a conclusion coming very soon based on current weather conditions. We fully expect that both parties will be satisfied with the final results concerning this project. Thank you.
