Colonial Home Warranty Reviews (217)

Review: I have purchase a home warranty from this company beginning of November 2013 for $398.80 and had file a plumbing claim once which they could not provide anyone for me and I was told to hire someone and pay then they will reimburse me which was $90.00 and they have not pay me back on that then I called them regarding my heater and was told they call me back finally after 4 calls and a week later they called and was asked to provide them with the maintenance record from previous year on the heater. I send them the maintenance record again after 7 days of calling every day due to weather being so cold and having a little child at home they called back and said they are calling the company that did my maintenance previous year to verify and the receipt that I has send to them is not enough unless is verified. 4 days later after I did not hear from them I called the company who done the maintenance for us and asked them if they have been called by Colonial and they said yes and job been verified again I called the Colonial to see why is taking so many day for 1 claim and their rep told me now we need 2 years ago maintenance record which I really got upset and asked them why wasn't I told from beginning about this but no respond. I cancelled the warranty with them after going through the loop about how to cancel the warranty and finally today I received $100.00 as refund with no break down that how they came out with this figure.Desired Settlement: To flat cancel the policy and refund me the $398.80 and I will be responsible for the $90.00 that I paid to plumber and have not been reimburse yet. They have not done any repair for me.Thank you,God BlessJobe Atashi

Response:

Review: I purchased a home warranty from colonial for a three year length. I'm in my second year of the warranty period. I filed a claim in December when I went out and saw my heat pump covered with a thick layer of ice. Worried about possibly over heating the compressor I turned the system off and waited until the Heat pump repairmen arrived 4 days latter. He determined that the defroster board had failed. He called Colonial and they stated that he would have to either get me to pay for it and then would reimburse me after they reviewed the claim, but we're backed up with claims. I paid the services man $337.10 so that I could have heat.

The next day I sent in the bill via email along with a copy of the check. Colonial got back to me that day requiring proof that I had had the unit serviced within the manufactures requirements. I sent them a copy of a service call reviewing all aspects of the system by a qualified Heat Pump contractor.

Colonial then informed me two days later that the repair was not covered due to the units compressor was still under warranty. The unit is 6 years old and as is all heat pumps has a 10 year warranty on compressor but only a 5 year warranty on other parts. I told colonial this and they stated it did not matter.

I have gone back and reviewed all the pages of the warranty Colonial sent me initially and there is no where that states if one part of a system is under warranty all other parts will not be covered. As you can see I have done all the due diligence to have the warranty cover the cost of this replacement yet Colonial still refuses. I would like the item to be reimbursed or show me how they cold possibly interpret the warranty this way when all other parts of the system are not covered under the manufactures warranty.Desired Settlement: Either a check to cover the work or a detailed explanations of the original Colonial warranty section and line showing that if one part of the heat pump, the compressor, is under warranty then nothing on the heat pump will be covered by Colonial.

Review: I placed an order on Nov 14 for an electric problem, was assigned contractors that did not contacted me and when I contacted them one did not want to do the job and the other said that his company does not work with Colonial any longer. It is not possible to wait 14 days in order to have a problem fix, and when I called wanted to speak a supervisor was never available and then they promises to call me back and never did

Previusly I had a problem with my heather and they sent me a guy who did not know what they were doing and when I asked for another company to check the problem they said is not possible.Desired Settlement: I been paying this company for the last 2 years for services and when I need it they dont deliver what they promise I want my money back so I can pay another company.

Review: I called in a claim for my washing machine, the repair company came out and diagnosed the drain pump needed to be replaced. Colonial denied the claim as they indicated the washing machine had a warranty. I called Maytag was well as reviewed the appliance book and there is no warranty. I called Colonial back and indicated Maytag communicated there is no warranty, Colonial indicated I needed Maytag to write a letter indicating that and the claim would be paid. Maytag did and Colonial indicates they talked to someone at Maytag and it has a lifetime warranty on the "tub" (which it does not) but any warranty voids their warranty. That doesn't even make sense as the part that needed to be replaced was the pump not the tub and the warranty book specifically states there are no other warranties outside what is stated so I was lied to by Colonial. When I ask them who at Maytag indicated there is a warranty as I have called 7 times and get the same answer that nothing is covered they indicated they didn't know but that is what they said.

Washer information is: Model Number- [redacted] Date of Purchase- 02/26/2003Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for the repair in the amount of $156 as this should have been covered under my warranty.

Review: I signed up with colonial home warranty and had two policies with them and they were quick to take my money but never followed through with what they told me was covered when I signed up with them. I had a issue with my refrigerator and their repair man that they sent out immediately told me it was a sealed system issue and said it would be over $3,000 to fix. We had to pay him a $60 service fee for a complete made up problem and they were trying to overcharge us for a issue that wasn't even the problem. Colonial said that the policy excluded sealed system problems. when I signed up they told me my refrigerator was included in the policy they didn't mention that there was a list of exclusion, which basically they cover nothing?? I waited for weeks without a fridge waiting on a solution from them. They were rude and treated me very poorly. I went two weeks without a fridge. I was in tears and very distressed every time I talked to them they gave me no answers and said only corporate can make that decision and there was no way for me to contact their corporate office? I called another guy to come out and fix our fridge after I got no where with Colonial and had a guy fix our fridge for $164.52. I asked for reimbursement from Colonial.. they said I had to write a letter to corporate office; so I followed what they asked me to do to get reimbursed. I never got a call or a letter to inform me of the status of the claim. Poor customer service. I called at least 3 times waiting and they said I should be getting a letter. The 3rd time I called they said they needed my repair guy to call them directly to verify the work? I am just suppose to know this? Just one obstacle after another so they do not to pay us back. so finally I received an email 2.5 months later after fighting non stop with them that they were going to agree that they were only going to pay $110? I was so disgusted with their service and all their rude employees I cancelled the policy a day after I signed off to get reimbursed because I wanted to get as much money back from them as I could since they were a total fraudulent company. They told me there was a $50.00 cancellation fee. I thought fine at least I will get something back since I had two policies one that had 2 months left on one and the other had 4 months left on it. they said they would prorate it and send me the remaining money left on my policy. I signed the agreement that they were only going to pay me $110 for the refrigerator repair even though they should have paid me a full refund of what I paid. I just wanted to get anything I could back at this point. I cancelled the policy a day later after I signed the agreement. I called a month later to see where my remaining money was and they told me that since I cancelled the policy all agreements were void and there was no money to give back on the remaining policies? Total SCAMDesired Settlement: I want justice for my case and I want everyone else not to be taken by this fraudulent company. They are a total scam and will not pay any claims.

Review: I have a home warranty policy with Colonial Home. My stove stopped working and they sent out a repairman to fix it. However, he was unable to fix it as he said it was an electrical issue. I still had to pay him $80 for the visit. I called back Colonial since the stove was not fixed so they said they will send out another repair man to fix it. He came out and wanted another $80 after he fixed the stove. I called Colonial saying that I should not have to pay since the first guy was not able to fix it. The contract state that if the repair fails the consumer is not responsible for service charges. They said that since it wasn't fixed the first time they had to open a second claim for the same issue and charge me again for another repair man. This was only 1 service isuue which they turned into 2 and therefore charged me for 2 visits. The intent of the contract is that they will fix an issue and only charge 1 service fee but they did not follow that.Desired Settlement: Refund my first $80 I paid for that did not resolve the issue.

Review: On August 24th, I called in for an Air-Condition problem at my condo, (tenant occupied). I was given name of contractor. When I called the contractor told me that he does not do any work for Colonial, because they did not pay him (this was a weekend). I called Monday morning Aug. 26th and Colonial gave me another contactor’s information. The soonest he could go was the 29th. In the mean time we have been having 98+ degree heat. I get a call from tenant that same evening after the repair that the air is not working. Called Colonial back the next morning the contractor went out and added freion on the 30th. An hour later I get another call that the air is not working again. The next day I brought another contractor who’s findings were that the "compressor" needs to be changed. I called Colonial on Sept. 2nd regarding the findings and was told that they directly need to speak with my contractor, so I asked "my contactor to call and speak with the authorization dept." I called Colonial back to find out the outcome and was told they need their contractor to go and verify the findings. Their contractor goes back out on Sept 4th and, finds that it is in fact "the compressor" problem and he sends his findings to Colonial for repair authorization. The next morning Sept 5th I called Colonial, but now can't get thru, because their Claims Department is having technical issues, so you go thru an answering service and they tell you someone will call back, but no one does. I called them again, and same thing answering service picks up, and this time I requested for someone to e-mail me, but that did not happen either. So I called them again on Sept 6th, same thing, unable to get thru, however, the automated system, tells you that "if this is a life threatening situation, you may get your own contractor to take care of the problem and send the billing to Colonial for reimbursement". To me being in an almost 100 degree heat without air-condition is life threatening, so I called their contractor and asked, if he could go ahead with the work and I will pay for it. Finally, on September 9th, their contractor purchased the compressor and fixed the air-conditioning for $1,300.00. On Tuesday, Sept. 10th, I get a call from Colonial that they are reviewing the findings that their contractor sent and they need "the maintenance records for the air-conditioning" I told them that I don’t have any records. On September 11th, I get another call from Colonial saying that they are unable to pay, because I don't have any maintenance records. I could not believe what I heard, after dragging this for over two weeks, after my numerous phone calls and e-mails and making themselves unavailable/unreachable for four days, because of some sort of internal issues, they come back only to deny the claim. When I asked what type of maintenance, their reply was, well, changing filters and maintaining the unit. I told them that we change the filters every 6 months ourselves. Their response was that it should be done by a licensed contractor, which does not make sense at all. SO FOR COLONIAL HOME WARRANTY, THEIR ADVERTISEMENT SHOULD BE, "REPAIRS ARE NOT COVERED, UNLESS YOU HAVE A MAINTENANCE CONTRUCT" AND EVEN THEN THE COVERAGE IS QUESTIONABLE.Desired Settlement: I would like for Colonial Warranty to re-imburse me the $1,300.00 which I paid to have the air-condiotion repaired. it seems strange that Colonial flat out rejects Air-Codition repais, from that I have been reading on other sites

Review: I purchased the home warranty Sep 2012. I submitted a request to repair my dishwasher on 29 Aug 13. They sent out a technicial from [redacted] who advised I needed a control panel. They said they would order the part and contact me to install. On 3 Sep 13, a rep from Colonial called me to advised colonial was not going to pay for the repair because the part was still under warranty. The Rep could or would not give me any other explanation other than it came down from the cooperate office. I made several attampts to contact the cooperate office (supervisor/manager) and was advised they would pass on the message and someone would contact me. I have been waiting for 4 business days. My current contract ends 12 Sep and I believe they are stalling until the contact ends. Every rep I've spoken with ( 5 reps total) advises they need to give to the cooperate office for resolution. I purchased this warranty in good faith that if I do have an issue it would be resolved.Desired Settlement: I will have the dishwasher repaired and would like to be reimbursed or refunded the amount of the contract. I believe this business should honor their agreement

Review: After filing 3 claims (all fixes denied by Colonial), for appliances included in my home warranty policy, I finally had to buy myself a new AC unit. I had already been told by the contractor who came out for my last AC claim, that Colonial barely pays their contractors, and there was NO way I would get them to replace an AC. So I had accepted that, but in my policy it states I can cancel at any time for a refund. Since I already replaced the AC, and had over a year and a half left on the policy, the refund should have been over $400. I called last week to cancel and was told I would received the details of my refund via email, and it should be refunded in full minus the $50 refund fee. I never heard back anything from Colonial. I called back today and was told oh sorry you are not getting refund, there is nothing I can do about it, there are no managers here that will speak with you, you will have to write corporate and they don't take calls. Basically, deal with it and there is nothing you can do about it. He tried to explain something about I received a discount when I got the policy, which I did not. I specifically remember asking for a lower discount or deal price and was told no. And that they only way I could verify that was an email they were supposed to have sent me when I signed the policy, which they did not. So I said I would like you to send me that discounted deal info again and was told sorry I can't because the account is closed. The call center person was rude, and said he didn't care if I thought I deserved money back, the account was closed and the refund was issued for $0. Too bad there was nothing he could or would do about it.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund that is owed to me minus the $50 refund fee. I have basically accepted that this is a fraudulent company, especially after reading all the complaints other people have posted. It sounds like they don't care any about their customers or the right things to do, and will basically steal money from anyone. Realistically, my money is probably gone forever, but I will do anything I can to make sure this company stops taking other peoples money.

Review: Colonial Home Warranty sent an appliance repair company to address issues with our washing machine. The repairman determined the washer needed a new drain pump, shocks, springs, and an inner door panel. Upon contacting Colonial a week later for an update on the status of the claim, they said they would contact the repair company to verify the service call findings. Two days later, I call Colonial again, only to be told that they found several issues with the washer, however, since the "stainless steel drum" has a lifetiime warranty, they cannot repair the unit, and that replacing the unit would be our decision, but not at Colonial's expense. They are refusing to repair or replace the washer.Desired Settlement: The unit either needs to be repaired or replaced.

Review: On Aug 27, 2012 I purchased a Homewarranty Plan for $990, for 3yrs. The order # is: [redacted] . I have been trying to call the company for over a week, because my hotwater heater recently went out in which I had to pay $495.00 to have it replaced. I finally went online to see if I could find another business # and seen the Unhappy Posted Comments from people, and it is believed that this company may no longer be in business. I am wondering how I can get some reimbursement back on this unjust practice. Please Help! I am a single mom, and I have to live very frugal to make my ends meet.Desired Settlement: I want reimbursement back for what I had to come out of pocket for the hotwater heater, and part of my $ back since I still had almost a 1 1/2yrs left on the warranty plan.

Review: We bought the home warranty from this company on February 10, 2014 for a period of one year (with additional two months free) and we paid the premium in full by credit card. The company settled our contract dates from 03/13/2014 to 05/12/2015. I was trying to contact them for a service issue on one of my A/C unit at home and learned that they have now filed for bankrupcy! I want to collect my premium plus some compensation for noit fulfilling their commitment to me as a consumer. How can they file for bankrupcy in less than a month after I signed contract with them and not telling me upfront that they are planning to file bakrupcy and still collecting money from the consumers? They need to process my refrund ASAP.Desired Settlement: Please ensure I get my refund in full ASAP via a business check or refund on my credit card. Thank you!

Review: I purchased a warranty with colonial home warranty which started in March of 2014, and went bankrupt in april. I paid them $348.50 for 14 months of service and am not going to reveive those services that I have paid in full for. My order number is [redacted] that refers back to the warranty that was purchased. I try to call the phone number given during the day and get a response that they are currently closed.

I feel that my family has been taken advantage of especially when they knew this was going to happen in advance.Desired Settlement: I feel I should get a full refund of $348.50.

Review: This is the biggest SCAM company ever. Purchased a one year warranty that expires end of April. Beginning of March call in two claims -- I know I have to pay two services fees. Back and forth phone calls that didn't make any sense -- then they finally tell me that they won't cover the warranty because I didn't call them immediately in when the things broke. NO WHERE in the coverage does it have a time limit to call for service. They "supervisor" would not let me talk to anyone else and said he was the only one to speak with. I've called back and tried to get this cleared up and they keep saying the same thing. They are trying to push it so that in the end my coverage will end and they end up with my money and NO SERVICE. This is sooo frustrating dealing with them.Desired Settlement: I want my money back that I spent on the warranty coverage -- period. I want the $ back and I will never use them again.

Well, this task was never completed by the contractor they sent, I was never able to get reimbursed for the work done, the contractor never called in to the warranty company to tell them to reimburse me, nor the company contact the contractor to ask any question about said reimbursements

This month in February 2014, I submitted another claim, because my garbage disposal isn't working, I was called a week later after submitting the claim only for the Colonial Warranty company to tell me that, there was no one available to help me get my disposal fixed & they didn't know when someone would be available. I am asking for a FULL refund in the amount I paid $398.50, because Colonial Warranty Company hasn't kept up its obligations to me as a consumer, they haven't fixed anything I have asked them to.

04/19/13 Debit Card W/D COLONIAL WARRANTY GROU 877-3130001 US Date 04/17/13 [redacted] -$398.50 I would like ALL of my money reimbursed ASAP!

I spoke to a representative today & told them exactly what I would be doing, I told them to cancel my policy & that I would like a full refund & that I would be filing a Revdex.com claim immediately for them not keeping up their obligation in the contract...I did contact the contractor they sent to get my reimbursement done, he never contacted the company back, they never contacted him. I told them I contact their contractor & all that happened, this company is full of bt & should be SHUT DOWN!Desired Settlement: I would like a FULL refund in the amount of $3698.50 from Colonial Home Warranty company for not keeping up their obligations to me as a consumer, this company is extremely bootleg, second hand & shiesty, so are the contractors they send out. I have put in 2 claims with NOT 1 successful outcome! I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, I will go with American Home Shield, at least they are RELIABLE!!!!!!!!!!

Review: I took out a policy with this company who purported to do service in the State of Arkansas. However, each time that a claim was called in a representative would call me back and state that no one was available in their system at that time to help with my issue and that I'd have to find someone outside of the company to repair/replace the same and then contact them for authorization to replace/repair the problem before fixing it. After the third time of this happening, I decided to cancel my contract with the company and find other means for a warranty company which I knew serviced my area/State. I was told by a representative that I would be receiving a refund of any unused fees less a $50 cancellation fee . When I asked how much of a refund I would receive, I was told that one of the representatives with the company would call me and they would tell me how much my refund would be. 15 days later I still had not received a phone call nor a refund on my account and I called the company back only to be told that no refund was due.Desired Settlement: First and foremost to receive a refund since at no time during my contract did I receive any service from this company and desired to cancel the contract prior to the end of same said contract. Further to cease this company from selling policies to consumers in any State which it knowing does not cover services.

Review: Jane 13, 2014 I purchase a home warranty policy from Colonial Home Warranty for $300. Now that I have a claim for a leaking toilets, they are not available. I have even emailed the policy sales person and still have not received a response. When you call the number on the policy no matter the time of day or night, there is a message stating "our office is closed". No direction of how to file a claim on the voice message or the website. I have had this policy a little over 2 months. While my claim is minor, accepting my payment confirms an agreement to resolve. I expect service to be rendered with the same aggressiveness used to sale the policy which is not the case.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $300
