Crestline Finance Reviews (%countItem)

This company, along with Checksmart, are misleading the public. The amount of fees I have already paid should be sufficient enough for the loan I took out for a total of 1 1/2 months. I went to pay off the loan and then called 2 weeks later to tell me I needed to pay the $166 for fees for having a revolving line of credit. On top of the bi-weekly fees I was already paying. Checksmart did not tell me this, nor did they give me any paperwork during my transaction. It is really misleading and disgraceful on both companies part. People who need to get a pay day loan are usually in a financial crisis. Why else would you go there? To milk the poor public of outrages fees is dishonorable and disgusting.

Two weeks after paying the borrowed amount, the Complainant received a call and was told she received a line of credit and had to pay $166.00. Our records show, that the Complainant agreed to terms of a line of credit on September 25, 2019 with Green Bear Ohio, LLC d/b/a Crestline Finance. In the agreement, the Annual Fee, also referred as “Membership Fee”, is disclosed. Please refer to the following excerpt from the Complainant’s line of credit agreement:

Crestline Finance is the next best thing to a loan shark - avoid them and Check Smart at all costs - they will nickle and dime you to death - suppost to pay 182 just to close the account - (I've never heard of paying a company after you've payed the loan off ) to close the account - this is major shady !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can\t I give them NO STARS ??????

On 10/31 went in to checksmart for a loan. Was told the payment date was the 3rd. It was nit it us the 18th(this is resolved). Told pay off was approximately $430. Found out today that there is an additional $150 loan fee at pay off. This was never told to me even though I asked what total pay off would ve in the beginning. They have cameras that can verify. Very deseptive.

To summarize the complaint, the Complainant states that on October 31, 2019 he went to CheckSmart for a loan and was told the payoff would be approximately $430 with no mention of an additional $150 fee and would like this fee waived.

Very deceptive practices. They market their product as a line of credit. I was not told of an "annual fee" Yes, I should have read the fine print. I borrowed once and paid it in full on the due date. After calling customer service I was told that if I didn't pay the annual fee my account would continue to accrue interest on the total approved amount even though I have no loan out. I have taken out a line of credit before (home equity) and this is not how that process works. So their argument is that I should pay interest on the total $1000 "approved amount" even though I have no outstanding debt with them. I will be contacting the Federal Trade Commission and lodging a formal complaint.

I paid off my bill with a fee on October 16th 2019 an they call me on November 16th 2019 an tell me I have a monthly fee of 35.50 balance I have all my paperwork an there is no month fee on the paperwork and I was never told of any balance or fees when I went in to paid it off I told them I was there to pay it off not renew it or anything else.

They add on approx $65 extra when you close out your loan on a $400 loan. They also put on an additional $160 when you first get your loan and you have to pay this when closing your loan inn addition to the extra $65. When I closed out my $400 loan I had to pay $668. What a ripoff this company is I would never borrow from them again and would recommend not to use this company if you need money!

I began a transaction with Alex at this particular location on Saturday, 9/28. I submitted an application and was told I was approved by Crestline Finance for $400.00 and there would be a $150 line of credit annual fee to use the line of credit. I moved forward with the transaction. He asked me to get my phone so I could sign the documents electronically. The first signature line came up and I stated "what am I signing?" He explained in one sentence the first document. I then responded with "I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be be able to view these documents." He responded with "you will receive them via email" I said "I think it's mandatory to provide them at the time of signing". We continued moving forward with signing 5 or 6 documents. I was charged a 10% check cashing fee and left with the money.

I received the portal information via email later that day. On Monday I tried to log in and I couldn't. I tried for several days. I finally called on Monday, 10/7 and they said the portal was down and would be the rest of the week. I asked about making a payment and she said I could make it via phone. I called and made a $440 payment on 10/10. The guy I spoke to was very unaware of the process. He asked if I had a Dublin Card to make the payment. We went around and around and finally he said I'm sorry I meant a debit card. Fast forward to 10/14 and I receive a statement. I called Checksmart to clarify because the statement said I owed $769, had received a cash advance of $1101 and my credit line was $501, and this was an Auto loan. I talked to the Checksmart employee and she clarified that no I only owed the $150.00 plus the $10.00 fee. I called Crestline and she stated I was approved for $1101, and they kept $700 as collateral in case I didn't pay the loan off. On 10/30 I decide to pay the loan off completely and again, the girl I talked to said I owed $186. I asked why and she said I had to pay interest on the $150.00 plus a $16 check cashing fee, plus the $10 fee for who knows what. I asked about the documents and not being able to view them and she told me to contact Crestline that they aren't allowed to give the documents to customers because they are the loan provider. I told her she was the loan servicer and it was my right as a consumer via the Truth in Lending laws that I be provided with a copy of what I was signing. She couldn't grasp that concept.

I checked the online portal this morning via Crestline and now it states I owe $6.57. So in total, it has cost me $226 to borrow $400 for a total of 11 days. And now they are saying I still owe money.

Revdex.com Dispute Resolution Team:

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by Ms. Theresa Brown (Complainant). Crestline Finance appreciates the role of the Revdex.com in resolving consumer concerns. We are happy to provide this response.

To summarize the complaint, the Complainant states that Crestline Finance did not provide loan documents to be viewed prior to signing, they were never advised of the $1101.00 limit or the $700.00 collateral on their account, and the account was paid in full, but a balance remains.

Our records show that the Complainant agreed to terms of the line of credit on September 28, 2019 with Green Bear Ohio, LLC d/b/a Crestline Finance. Customers are provided the line of credit documents electronically through their phone. During this process, the customer must review the line of credit documents prior to signing. If the customer is not able to sign via their phone, distributors are required to print the loan documents for the customer to review and sign.

Regarding the line of credit product details, they are included in the line of credit agreement under the “Initial Draw Disclosure” which provides a breakdown of the credit limit, security amount, and amount to draw.

As of November 6, 2019, there was unresolved interest accrued on the line of credit, that was not waived at the time of closing. The outstanding interest has now been waived, and the account is paid in full and reflects a $0.00 balance.

We hope that we have fully addressed the complaint. Should they or the Ohio Revdex.com require further explanation, please contact us at [email protected].

Revdex.com:

I reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 13935322, and find the resolution is satisfactory to me.

However, I received no documents to view before signing and the store failed to print them for me citing “we are not the lender and cannot provide the documents to you.” You need to re-educate the store employees in how to handle this matter.

Regards,

Theresa Brown

Wow. Abort. Find some other loan place. They'll find such subtle, small ways to rip you off. "They're doing you a favor by not charging you the $160 upfront for the loan. They just charge you an interest fee each month for a year." is what the *** employee said because I guess I didn't sound grateful enough and had questions about this "line of credit". Fast forward to when I went in to repay my loan on Friday. I had taken out $500 presented as a check (*** then charges you 5% to cash the check, hahahaha, nice). I was told that I would then be paying back $550 (I've now paid out almost $75 in fees between Crestline and ***). Fine. I went back the next day to take out $500 again because I was told that's what's available to me. However, I am then told "No, actually you can only take $487 and it'll be a 5% fee to cash the check so you're $467 and some change." I ask why and am told I am being charged for the monthly interest. But I thought that was only due on my next repayment. The *** employee shrugs and says "that's what the computer says" and she can't really explain it to me. I ask how much I'll then owe on the repayment and she says $576 (almost $100 now in fees). I'm still confused because if you're charging me for interest fee now by deducting it from the money you loan me then why do I have to pay it a second time when I come back to repay the loan?? What an excellent relationship of ripping people off between Crestline and ***. Oh yes, the *** employee insisted that she didn't really understand how it all worked and that I'd have to call Crestline instead. What??? Why are you doing the transaction if you don't understand what's going on?? The sooner I pay these people back their money and am done with them, the better. Oh yes, in order to sign yourself off their books you have to pay $160 for the favor of no longer being their customer.

took out a one time loan only, paid full amount of loan and interest. was told that was it, turns out 6 months later I get a phone call from them and they were charging me 13.00 per month and interest for nothing plus a processing fee to pay them off to leave me alone $207.00 what I consider a rip off and loan shark tactic of gangster days. How could ohio let a company like this from Utah do business here and a dirty business? I want my money back. Thanks for your help

This loan was done on 6-4-2019. I paid $301.00 back before it was due. Then month later I received a phone call telling me I owed $14.00 I went into the office was told with the loan you signed to pay $150.00 annual fee and $10.00 due at origination. Payable over 12 mo. which I did not no I was not given a contract at the time of the loan. So I ask for a contract at that time, feel that I have been ripped off, then it is a $2.00 fee every time I pay.

I am here to let you no just what I stated in my complaint still remain the same. I was not given a contract till I received a call telling me I still owed more money and I ask for a contract & was told we normal do not give them but I will run you one. I had paid the $301.00 off before it was due. that makes no sense that I would pay to keep and account open in case if you if you want to borrow more money you do not have to go through more paper, this is what I was told after I had gotten the call that I still owed. No I am not pleased with this non sense. It sounds like a scam.

Yours truly

Customer Response • Nov 11, 2019

I received your letter. I am sending you the document you requested that I was not given at the time I got the loan. I payed the $301.00 back before the loan was done. I was called the next momth telling me I still owed money which I do not feel I owe as I stated in my previous letter.

That's when I ask for a contact. I don't think no one would pay to continue for a loan that you may never get any more money. I had gotten money from CheckSmart before I did not no this was a diffrent company opperating on a diffrent company because the building still has the name Check Smart which they are hiding something.

I just applied for a loan at Checksmart.Everything seemed legitimate until the end when they didn't provide any documents for which they had you sign digitally on your own Iphone, or clearly show you the cost for which I was borrowing. I asked to borrow $100.00, only, and was told that I HAD to borrow $401.00. I asked if there was any 3 day rescission period to pay back any loans. I was told no, the company does not allow any 3 day rescission any longer. So I borrowed $401.00, and was charged $20.00 for a processing fee. So, I actually only received $381.00, on 9/3/2019, and then she handed me the check she said $441.10, was due in one payment on 9/20/2019. I paid back $281.00 right back on the same day. And the remaining $100.00 was paid back as well. I didn't get to see any contracts until everything was signed, and they said that once it is final I could not cancel. I thought in Ohio law states that you have 3 days to change my mind and pay back the principal only. Also, they said I was only approved for 401.00 but when I had a chance to review documents it stated I borrowed $1,101.00 and there was a 10.00 credit investigation and 150.00 annual fee. This was NEVER discussed. I have all the receipts and dates of the payments that were made. Everything was paid in full. I have a zero balance. So, I was completely shocked to receive a call from Checksmart stating that I owe a monthly payment of $20.18, and that the account can not be closed, unless I pay them $166.81. I was completely shaking from hearing this information. All my paid receipts have "Checksmart" on them, not Crestline Finance. I never agreed to opening any line of credit. It was not concise and complete information of any line of credit, or any fees, or having anything further to pay. I should not have to pay any further monies to this company. I feel like I am being bullied to pay something that I did not agree upon. It's deceptive.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: They did not investigate the situation and gave a blanket response. I was told to accept this loan for $401.00, by accepting a text on my cellphone. There was NEVER papers signed stating that I was to receive any line of credit. I DID NOT agree to repay a annual fee of $150. I NEVER agreed to pay an investigation fee. I NEVER agreed to paying a monthly fee of $20.00 a month, and I NEVER was give information concerning I accepted a line of credit. They never addressed the fact that all my receipts had CHECKSMART on them. Not Crestline Finance. The blatant disregard, of all the information I submitted to them, is unfair and their tactics to try to obtain money from individuals are deceptive. I paid all back the money I borrowed in the same month, along with the fees. I should not have to pay any further monies to this company. I want my account closed with this company as soon as possible. And the harassing calls to stop.

On Sept 16, 2019 I borrowed 500.00. The company charged me 25.00 to cash check. I went back 15 days later to pay off loan and was advised I could not pay off loan. The clerk said I had to call Crestline Finance to get their permission. I stated I am paying this off. How much this company charged me 227.19 interest for 15 days. I thought this was a great deal for the length of loan. I called Crestline Finance and told them on a recorded line I am contacting the Revdex.com.

Crestline Finance is confident that during the application process the Complainant was made well-aware of the costs and terms associated with this loan. As part of the process of requesting a loan, consumers are presented with the contract which includes the Federal Truth in Lending Disclosures, where the APR, finance charge, amount financed, and total of payments are presented. The contract must be reviewed before the loan is signed.

We hope that we have fully addressed the complaint. Should they or the Revdex.com require further explanation, we may be reached at ***.
Sincerely,
Customer Care

I am in receipt of your letter dated October 17,2019 and I amresponding as to your suggestion,

I went to this place of business and it was not named Crestline Finance butsomething else and ask to borrow 500.00 for 15 days (see attached statementdated 9/16,2019). 1 received 475.00 and was informed they were charging me25.00 dollars to cash this check which I thought was incorrect. The letter fromCrestline Finance states I agreed to the loan and that the APR was stated. Iborrowed 500.00 for 15 days and when I went to the pay the loan I was informedI owed 727.10 (see receipt enclosed dated October 1, 2019). 1 would like torespectfully inform you that it appears to me and any casual reader of this matterthat 227.00 interest for 15 days is more than 23% APR as stated the Ohio rules offinancing a loan. I would also like to inform you that when I paid this loan off onOctober 1, 2019 (see receipt enclosed) the clerk inform me there was anadditional charge of 160.00 to write the loan which I refused to pay. The clerkinformed that Crestline Finance would be sending me bill for 160.00 and if Irefused to pay would be going to court. I informed the clerk I will be lookingforward to the letter but as to the writing of this letter have had no letter fromCrestline Finance concerning the 1600.00

I feel that David Yost Attorney General State of Ohio Consumer ComplaintDivision should be notified as to what is taking place with Crestline Finance andhow they are treating the general public and that should not be allowed to takeplace and investigation be done in this matter and all of the records regardingloans made by Crestline Finance be examined to see if this has happen to anyoneelse. I feel the Attorney General's Office should suspend this Company licensing tomake loans to the general public and that be fined for this practice.I am going to contact all of my state representatives and inform them what hastaken place and also the Department of Veterans Affairs I am a disabled Viet Namveteran who served this great country proudly in 1966-1967 and do notappreciate being treated in this matter. If you are unable to file a complaint withthe Attorney General's office please inform me and I will.

Thank you for your time today and I shall await your timely response.

I just applied for a loan at Checksmart and the use the Company Crestline Finance for their loans. Every seemed legitimate until the end they didn't provide any documents for which they had you sign digitally on your own phone, or clearly show you the cost for borrowing. So I borrowed $401.00 and signed and it wasn't until she handed me the check she said it's due in one payment 9/6/2019 and the date is 8/28/2019. In Ohio payments are required to be at least 60 days and no more than 1 year. Also I didn't get any contracts until everything was signed and they said that once it is final I could not cancel and in Ohio law states I have 3 days to change my mind and pay back the principal only. Also they said I was only approved for 401.00 but when I had a chance to review documents it stated I borrowed 1,101.00 and I am also on the hook for 10.00 credit investigation and 150.00 fee. These all break Ohio Loan Laws.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by *** (Complainant). Crestline Finance appreciates the role of this office in resolving consumer concerns. We are happy to provide the following response.
To summarize the complaint, the Complainant received a Line of Credit Loan on 8/28/19. She did not receive a copy of the origination documents which were signed electronically upon origination or made aware of the total loan amount or total costs associated with her line of credit. Nor was she provided the right to rescind her loan. The complainant also alleges that the amount borrowed was due to be paid back on a date that did not comply with state laws.
Our records indicate that the Complainant agreed to the terms of a Line of Credit Loan on 8/28/19 with ***, LLC d/b/a Crestline Finance, the lender. Complainant obtained this loan at one of our Authorized Distributors; CheckSmart. The day of origination an automated email was sent to the address she provided on her application; this email message included a link to the Crestline Finance Customer Portal and a secure password to create an account online. Online, all origination documents are made available for viewing including the Line of Credit agreement (Contract) which clearly states all costs and fees associated with extension of credit.
The contract must be reviewed before the loan is signed. Complainant signature on this agreement indicates she understood the terms listed in Section 2, page 12 which states that all notices will be received electronically. Complainant also opted in to the Voluntary Alternative Payment Program which is outlined in Section 4, Page 4 of the contract which describes repayment of the principal amount borrowed with associated interest and fees.
Crestline Finance is willing resolve this matter with the complainant. We attempted to make contact via phone and email within the rescission period to cancel her line of credit. She did call the office on 9/4/19, at which point we offered to close the account with repayment of the principal amount borrowed ($401.00). She was unable to pay at the time and was asked to contact us at , by 9/5/19 if this is her intention.
We hope that we have fully addressed the complaint. Should she, or the Revdex.com require further explanation, we may be reached at ***.
Regards,
Crestline Finance Consumer Complaints

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: There advertising is misleading and they send you a text to sign the contracts with no way to read them before hand which is a law violation in Ohio for truth in lending. And I spoke with them 5 minutes after being handed the check then told it is due all in one payment in less then 7 days and then told No rescind on offer and I have to pay interest on that check amount plus 150.00, 10.00 and 600.00 I never consented to borrow. They borrowed more than I was approved for and didn't inform until after the fact. And they didn't want to rescind until I filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Ohio and contacted an attorney .
